Background: and Purpose: To assess the long-term effectiveness, safety, and economic viability of recently approved Alzheimer’s disease (AD) therapies, as well as to evaluate the real-world application of novel diagnostics among AD patients with diverse comorbidities, comprehensive real-world data (RWD) analysis is essential. The Korean JOint RegistrY for ALZheimer’s Treatment and Diagnostics (JOY-ALZ) endeavors to create a registry of RWD derived from clinical practice on new diagnostic methods and therapeutic agents for AD introduced in Korea since 2021. Methods: Participants must fulfill all the following: 1) be at least 19 years old; 2) be actively receiving, scheduled to initiate, or undergoing evaluation for any AD disease-modifying treatment; 3) have completed amyloid positron emission tomography or cerebrospinal fluid AD immunoassay (a positive result is not essential for participation); 4) have a clinical classification of cognitively unimpaired, mild cognitive impairment, or probable AD dementia. Data generated during routine care is segmented into a minimum dataset, extended dataset, and research-only dataset requiring extra consent. Assessments encompass clinical, cognitive, functional, neurobehavioral, neuroimaging, and biomarker evaluations, in addition to systematic monitoring of new AD treatments and their safety.Data are collected and monitored at baseline, at semiannual intervals during the initial 2 years, and then annually up to 2034. To date, 46 medical centers will participate in JOY-ALZ. Conclusions JOY-ALZ is expected to promote understanding of the long-term clinical outcomes, safety, and cost-effectiveness of recently introduced diagnostics and treatments for AD, thereby supporting the progress of precision medicine in AD care and diagnosis.

Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a rare neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the presence of eosinophilic nuclear inclusions in neurons and somatic cells. It clinically manifests as cognitive decline, seizures, and autonomic dysfunction. A 44-year-old man presented with a transient visual field defect and hemiparesis. Based on characteristic imaging findings and pathological findings, NIID was suspected and diagnosed through genetic testing. This case emphasizes the importance of comprehensive clinical phenotype analysis and accurate genetic diagnosis.

Echinococcosis, caused by the tapeworm Echinococcus, is rare in Korea and is primarily imported from endemic areas. We report a case of a 37-year-old Korean man with multiple large hepatic cysts, initially diagnosed as simple cysts at a local clinic in 2018. The patient had lived in Oman, an endemic area, for several months in 2016. Upon referral to a tertiary hospital in 2023, due to progressive cyst enlargement, liver magnetic resonance imaging revealed three large cysts with a water lily sign. Serum IgG against Echinococcus was positive by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. After diagnosis of echinococcosis, treatment with albendazole and puncture-aspiration-injection-reaspiration (PAIR) was performed.Microscopic and molecular analysis of cyst aspirates confirmed Echinococcus granulosus infection. Follow-up computed tomography demonstrated a reduction in cyst size, yet the emergence of a new right pleural effusion and consolidation in the left lower lobe of the lung necessitated the continuation of albendazole therapy. This case highlights the importance of thorough travel history, imaging findings, and the effectiveness of PAIR combined with albendazole in treating imported echinococcosis.

Purpose: This study aims to identify the moderating effect of nursing organizational culture on the relationship between resilience and clinical competence among new graduate nurses. Methods: A survey was conducted from March 14 to July 14, 2023, targeting 210 new nurses with 3 to 12 months of experience, working in three general hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Data from 193 respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and hierarchical regression. Results: The resilience of new graduate nurses was moderate and their clinical competence was rated as good. They perceived a strong hierarchy-oriented culture, followed by a relationship-oriented culture, an innovation-oriented culture, and lastly, a task-oriented culture. Clinical competence was higher with greater resilience (β=.40, p<.001) and stronger perception of hierarchy-oriented culture (β=.16, p=.013). The interaction between resilience and innovation-oriented culture (β=.22, p=.012) was statistically significant, indicating that the effect of resilience on clinical competence was significantly higher when the innovation-oriented culture was strongly perceived. Conclusion To improve the clinical competence of new graduate nurses, it is essential to enhance their personal resilience and, at an organizational level, to strengthen the positive aspects of hierarchy-oriented and innovation-oriented cultures.
