1.Myopia Management Consensus Statement in South Korean Children 2025 by the Korean Myopia Society for the Korean Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus

Myopia, particularly high myopia, is a significant risk factor for several ocular pathologies including cataract, glaucoma, and retinal detachment. Excessive axial elongation associated with high myopia can induce biomechanical stretching, increasing the risk of serious complications like posterior staphyloma and myopic maculopathy. Global meta-analyses estimate that approximately 10 million people were visually impaired due to myopic maculopathy in 2015, with 3 million being blind. Recent nationwide surveys in South Korea revealed a prevalence of 65.4% for myopia and 6.9% for high myopia in children and adolescents, highlighting the urgent need for effective management. Delaying the onset and slowing the progression of myopia during childhood and adolescence is crucial for reducing the potential lifetime risk of these complications. This consensus statement, prepared by the Korean Myopia Society for the Korean Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (KAPOS), reviews the current evidence for myopia control interventions and provides management strategies applicable to the South Korean clinical setting. Key interventions covered include lifestyle modifications (outdoor time, near work adjustment), optical methods (myopia-control spectacle lenses, dual-focus soft contact lenses, orthokeratology), and pharmacologic treatment (low-concentration atropine), as well as combination therapies. The statement also addresses patient selection, treatment outcome evaluation using spherical equivalent and axial length changes, and the crucial aspects related to treatment cessation and the rebound effect.
2.Nitric Oxide Production Inhibitory Terpenylated Coumarins from Ailanthus altissima

LC-MS/MS-based molecular networking was used to guide the targeted isolation of terpenylated coumarins from the barks of Ailanthus altissima. Five known terpenylated coumarins (1–5), along with two simple coumarins (6 and 7), were isolated from the CH 2 Cl 2 -soluble fraction. Their structures were determined using spectroscopic techniques, including 1D and 2D NMR and LC-HR-MS/MS. Notably, altissimacoumarins C (1), F (3), and H (4) demonstrated potent inhibition of LPS-induced nitric oxide production in RAW 264.7 macrophages, with IC50 values of 36.1, 27.9, and 11.2 μM, respectively. These results demonstrate the antiinflammatory properties of A. altissima, supporting its possible application in treating inflammatory disorders.

Pediatric kidney disease has a relatively lower prevalence than do other pediatric conditions and has a notably different etiology from kidney diseases observed in adults. Furthermore, the pediatric population is unique in that they experience ongoing growth and development, distinguishing them from adult patients. Consequently, pediatric patients with kidney disease require more specialized and meticulous nutritional management than do adults. To address this need and promote optimal dietary practices for pediatric patients with kidney disease, pediatric nephrologists from the Korean Society of Pediatric Nephrology and nutritionists from the Korean Society of Clinical Nutrition have collaborated to establish nutritional guidelines specifically tailored to Korean dietary patterns. These guidelines offer detailed, nutrient-specific recommendations covering energy, protein, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium consumption while providing practical, culturally relevant guidance intended to support both pediatric patients and their caregivers.
4.Correlation and Agreement Between Transcutaneous Oxygen Pressure and Toe Pressure in Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Background:
Adequate tissue oxygenation is a key determinant of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) outcomes. Though transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2) is the gold standard for evaluating tissue oxygenation, its limited availability restricts routine clinical use. Consequently, toe pressure is frequently utilized as a practical surrogate; however, the direct correlation between these two modalities has yet to be rigorously investigated. This study aimed to assess the correlation and agreement between TcPO2 and toe pressure in patients with DFUs.
Methods:
A retrospective review was conducted on 837 DFU patients who received simultaneous TcPO2 and toe pressure assessments. The correlation between the two tests was analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient, and agreement was evaluated using Bland–Altman analysis. To aid interpretation, a scatterplot and Bland–Altman plot were generated.
Results:
TcPO2 and toe pressure demonstrated a strong correlation (R=0.66; 95% confidence interval, 0.62 to 0.70; P<0.001). Bland–Altman analysis showed a mean bias of 26.9 mmHg (standard deviation of differences, 28.8 mmHg; 95% limits of agreement, −28.9 to 82.6 mmHg) between toe pressure and TcPO2, reflecting limited agreement and increased variability at higher perfusion levels.
Conclusion
TcPO2 and toe pressure are strongly correlated. However, they are not interchangeable, particularly in DFU patients with high tissue perfusion.
5.Oral Health-Related Functional Factors Associated with Different Levels of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Risk in Korean Adults: Analysis of a National Survey

Background:
This study aimed to investigate the association between oral health-related functional and symptomatic factors andrisk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) among Korean adults aged ≥40 years, with a focus on identifying oral health indicators associated with different levels of OSA risk.
Methods:
Data from the Eighth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019∼2021) were analyzed. Among 22,559 participants, 8,603 adults aged ≥40 years with complete data were included. OSA risk was assessed using a modified STOP-B28 questionnaire (Snoring, Tiredness, Observed apnea, high blood Pressure, and body mass index >28 kg/m 2 ).Participants were categorized into normal, low-risk, and high-risk OSA groups, enabling a risk-stratified analysis. Associations between OSA risk levels and multiple oral health-related factors reflecting oral function and symptom history were examined using complex sample cross-tabulation and multivariable logistic regression analyses.
Results:
Male sex was associated with a higher likelihood of belonging to the low-risk (odds ratio [OR]=1.244) and high-risk(OR=1.587) OSA groups than the normal group (p<0.05). Several oral health-related factors showed graded associations with increasing OSA risk. Individuals with masticatory discomfort had 1.349-fold and 1.595-fold higher odds of belonging to the low-risk and high-risk groups, respectively (p<0.05). In the high-risk group, moderate speaking discomfort (OR=1.482) and a history of toothache within the past year (OR=1.487) were independently associated with an elevated OSA risk (p<0.05).
Conclusion
Oral health-related functional discomfort and symptom history were significantly associated with increasing OSA risklevels among middle-aged and older adults. By adopting a risk-based, stratified approach rather than focusing on diagnosed OSA or single oral symptoms, this study revealed that oral health indicators may serve as accessible markers for identifying individuals at elevated risk of OSA, underscoring the potential role of dental and oral healthcare settings in early screening and prevention.
6.Allergy Inhibition Using Naturally Occurring Compounds Targeting Thymic Stromal Lymphopoietin Pathways: a Comprehensive Review

Naturally occurring compounds have widely been applied to treat diverse pharmacological effects, including asthma, allergic diseases, antioxidants, inflammation, antibiotics, and cancer. Recent research has revealed the essential role of the thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) in regulating inflammatory responses at mucosal barriers and maintaining immune homeostasis. Asthma, inflammation, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are allergic disorders in which TSLP plays a significant role. Although TSLP’s role in type 2 immune responses has undergone comprehensive investigation, its involvement in inflammatory diseases and cancer has also been found to be expanding. However, investigating how to block the TSLP pathway using natural products has been limited. This paper summarizes the roles of various medicinal plants and their chemical components that effectively inhibit the TSLP pathway. In addition, we also highlight the contributions of several plant-derived compounds to treat allergic diseases via targeting TSLP. This review intends to offer innovative concepts to scientists investigating the use of naturally produced compounds and extracts for the treatment of allergic illnesses.
7.Treatment Outcomes and Prognostic Factors of Intracranial Germ Cell Tumors: A Single Institution Retrospective Study

Background:
This study analyzed the epidemiology and treatment outcomes of germ cell tumorpatients at a single institution.
Methods:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on intracranial germ cell tumor (iGCT) pa-tients treated at a single tertiary hospital from 2004 to 2019. Patients were categorized based on treatment modality: Korean Society for Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (KSPNO) protocol or bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin with radiation therapy.
Results:
Forty-nine iGCT patients treated with combined chemotherapy and radiotherapywere analyzed. The median age was 19 years (range: 6–40), with a median follow-up duration of 148.0 months (range: 10.5–265.5). Tumors were most common in the pineal gland (51.0%). Although no significant differences in outcomes were observed between treatment modalities, outcomes varied significantly by pathological type. The 10-year progression-free survival rates for germinoma and non-germinomatous germ cell tumors (NGGCTs) were 88.1% and 32.7%, respectively (p=0.003), while the 10-year overall survival rates were 92.9% and 67.5%, respectively (p<0.001). Fourteen patients experienced CTCAE (Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events) grade ≥3 adverse events, with one eventrelated death.
Conclusion
Pure germinoma demonstrated higher survival and lower recurrence rates comparedto NGGCT. The KSPNO protocol appears to be an acceptable and safe treatment option for iGCT patients. Further multi-institutional studies with larger cohorts are warranted.
