BACKGROUND:Acute exercise tends to cause skeletal muscle tissue damage and lipid metabolism disorders in vivo, but the mechanism by which acute exercise combined with electroacupuncture modulates metabolic and autophagic pathways in vivo is unclear. OBJECTIVE:To observe the changes in metabolic enzymes and autophagy levels in skeletal muscle of rats subjected to acute exercise by electroacupuncture at the acupoints of"Zusanli"and"Huantiao." METHODS:Fifty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups:quiet control group(n=10),model group(n=20),and reverse electroacupuncture group(n=20).The latter two groups were set up with two time points,i.e.immediate and 3 hours after exercise groups(n=10 per time point). The model group and the reverse electroacupuncture group underwent acute exercise training after adaptive treadmill training. The rats in the reverse electroacupuncture group underwent electroacupuncture treatment(parameters:electroacupuncture on both sides of the rats at the acupoints of"Zusanli"and"Huantiao,"continuous wave, frequency of 2 Hz,intensity of 2 mA,leaving the needle in the body for 30 minutes, once a day for 7 consecutive days)before treadmill training.Bilateral gastrocnemius muscle tissues were taken under anesthesia immediately after exercise and 3 hours after exercise, and hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe the histopathological changes of rat skeletal muscle.ELISA kit was used to detect the activities of hepatic lipase, fatty acid synthase,hormone-sensitive lipase, and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 in rat skeletal muscle tissues.Immunohistochemistry and western blot were used to detect the changes in the expression of autophagy genes. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After hematoxylin-eosin staining, the arrangement of gastrocnemius muscle fibers in the model group was disturbed, swollen and ruptured immediately after exercise and 3 hours after exercise. In the reverse electroacupuncture group, gastrocnemius muscle fibers were tightly arranged and the number of swollen and ruptured cells was greatly reduced immediately after exercise and 3 hours after exercise, and there was no significant difference when compared with the quiet control group.Compared with the quiet control group, the activities of hepatic lipase and fatty acid synthase were lower while the activities of lipoprotein lipase,hormone-sensitive lipase, and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 were higher in the model group and the reverse electroacupuncture group 3 hours after exercise(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Compared with the model group, the activities of lipoprotein lipase and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 were higher in the reverse electroacupuncture group immediately after exercise(P<0.05),while the activity of lipoprotein lipase was higher and the activity of hormone-sensitive lipase was lower in the reverse electroacupuncture group 3 hours after exercise(P<0.01).Immunohistochemical results showed that compared with the quiet control group, the expression of P62,autophagy-related gene 5 and autophagy-related gene 7 was higher in the model group immediately and 3 hours after exercise,as well as in the reverse electroacupuncture group immediately after exercise(P<0.05 or P<0.01);compared with the model group, the expression of P62 and autophagy-related gene 7 was lower in the reverse electroacupuncture group immediately and 3 hours after exercise(P<0.05).Western blot results showed that the protein expression of P62 and autophagy-related gene 7 in the reverse electroacupuncture group was lower than that in the model group immediately after exercise(P<0.05);the protein expression of Parkin in the model group was higher than that in the quiet control group immediately and 3 hours after exercise(P<0.05);and the protein expression of Parkin in the reverse electroacupuncture group was lower than that in the model group immediately and 3 hours after exercise(P<0.05).To conclude, acute exercise induces disorders, swelling and rupture of gastrocnemius muscle fibers in rats and electroacupuncture on both sides of the acupoints of"Zusanli"and"Huantiao"can improve the level of lipid metabolism and regulate autophagy cells in rat skeletal muscle, preventing the disorders of lipid metabolism and damage of gastrocnemius muscle tissues caused by acute exercise. The mechanism may be closely related to the regulation of autophagy-related factor P62,autophagy-related gene 5,autophagy-related gene 7,and Parkin protein expression to promote the occurrence of autophagy or regulate the autophagy pathway in rat skeletal muscle cells.

Digital technologies have become an integral part of complete denture restoration. With advancement in computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), tools such as intraoral scanning, facial scanning, 3D printing, and numerical control machining are reshaping the workflow of complete denture restoration. Unlike conventional methods that rely heavily on clinical experience and manual techniques, digital technologies offer greater precision, predictability, and efficacy. They also streamline the process by reducing the number of patient visits and improving overall comfort. Despite these improvements, the clinical application of digital complete denture restoration still faces challenges that require further standardization. The major issues include appropriate case selection, establishing consistent digital workflows, and evaluating long-term outcomes. To address these challenges and provide clinical guidance for practitioners, this expert consensus outlines the principles, advantages, and limitations of digital complete denture technology. The aim of this review was to offer practical recommendations on indications, clinical procedures and precautions, evaluation metrics, and outcome assessment to support digital restoration of complete denture in clinical practice.

Frequency and duration of spontaneously recurrent seizures (SRSs) were observed by video monitoring system, and 2 weeks after that, phenobarbital and phenytoin sodium were injected intraperitoneally to screen drug-resistant models. Frequency and amplitude of the epileptic waves in EEG were recorded by BL-420 Bio-signal Acquisition and Processing System. Novel object recognition experiment was used to detect the novel exploration, Y-maze free exploration experiment and new and different arm experiment were used to detect the spatial recognition and memory ability, and Morris water maze experiment was used to detect the spatial memory ability. Results:(1) Twenty-four rats (48.00%) survived in the lithium chloride-pilocarpine group, 25 (78.00%) in the pilocarpine-pilocarpine group, and 21 (65.62%) in the pilocarpine-carbamylcholine group; and ultimately 7, 9, and 8 drug-resistant epileptic rat models were identified, respectively; frequency and duration of SRSs in the pilocarpine-pilocarpine group and pilocarpine-carbamylcholine group were significantly higher/longer than those in the lithium chloride-pilocarpine group ( P<0.05). (2) The pilocarpine-pilocarpine group and pilocarpine-carbamylcholine group had significantly higher amplitude of the epileptic waves in EEG compared with the lithium chloride-pilocarpine group ( P<0.05); the frequency of the epileptic waves in EEG increased gradually in the lithium chloride-pilocarpine group, pilocarpine-pilocarpine group, and pilocarpine-carbamylcholine group ( P<0.05). (3) Discrimination index, accuracy, ratio of distance traveled in novel arm to total distance, and time of novel arm entries gradually decreased in the normal control group, lithium chloride-pilocarpine group, pilocarpine-pilocarpine group, and pilocarpine-carbamylcholine group, with significant differences ( P<0.05). (4) Compared with the normal control group, the pilocarpine-pilocarpine group and pilocarpine-carbamylcholine group had significantly decreased frequency in crossing the original platform ( P<0.05); compared with the normal control group, lithium-pilocarpine chloride group and pilocarpine-pilocarpine group, the pilocarpine-carbamylcholine group had statistically shorter distance of target quadrant activity ( P<0.05); number of entries in the target quadrant gradually decreased in the normal control group, lithium chloride-pilocarpine group, pilocarpine-pilocarpine group, and pilocarpine-carbamylcholine group, with significant differences ( P<0.05). Clinical and Molecular Hepatology 2023;29(3):747-762
Background/Aims:
Existing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prediction models are derived mainly from pretreatment or early on-treatment parameters. We reassessed the dynamic changes in the performance of 17 HCC models in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) during long-term antiviral therapy (AVT).
Methods:
Among 987 CHB patients administered long-term entecavir therapy, 660 patients had 8 years of follow-up data. Model scores were calculated using on-treatment values at 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, and 5 years of AVT to predict threeyear HCC occurrence. Model performance was assessed with the area under the receiver operating curve (AUROC). The original model cutoffs to distinguish different levels of HCC risk were evaluated by the log-rank test.
Results:
The AUROCs of the 17 HCC models varied from 0.51 to 0.78 when using on-treatment scores from years 2.5 to 5. Models with a cirrhosis variable showed numerically higher AUROCs (pooled at 0.65–0.73 for treated, untreated, or mixed treatment models) than models without (treated or mixed models: 0.61–0.68; untreated models: 0.51–0.59). Stratification into low, intermediate, and high-risk levels using the original cutoff values could no longer reflect the true HCC incidence using scores after 3.5 years of AVT for models without cirrhosis and after 4 years of AVT for models with cirrhosis.
Conclusions
The performance of existing HCC prediction models, especially models without the cirrhosis variable, decreased in CHB patients on long-term AVT. The optimization of existing models or the development of novel models for better HCC prediction during long-term AVT is warranted.

Objective:To explore the application effect of case-based learning (CBL), teaching mode combined with 3D printing in clinical teaching of sacral tumors. Methods:A total of 108 undergraduate interns and standardized residency training students who studied in our hospital from 2017 to 2018 were divided into the CBL teaching group ( n = 53) and the CBL combined with 3D printing teaching group ( n = 55) according to their study time. The combined teaching group used computer tomography (CT) data to reconstruct and print out a 3D model of sacral tumors based on CBL, and performed preoperative teaching on the invasion of the surrounding tissues of the tumor. The scores of the students in the two groups were evaluated respectively, and the students were surveyed by self-identification questionnaire (learning interest, self-learning ability, teamwork ability, comprehensive analysis ability and clinical thinking ability). The t-test (one-sided) was used for comparison between groups using stata 14.0. Results:The score of CBL teaching group (75.90±6.70) was lower than that of CBL combined with 3D printing teaching group (83.60±7.40). In terms of critical thinking ability evaluation, self-learning ability, learning interest, comprehensive analysis ability and clinical thinking ability, the CBL combined 3D printing teaching group was superior to the CBL teaching group, and the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.001). In terms of teamwork ability, there was no statistical difference between the two groups. Conclusion:The CBL teaching mode combined with 3D printing can improve academic performance, students' learning interest and clinical thinking ability of sacral tumors in the teaching of undergraduate interns and standardized residency training students.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2023;40(2):350-357
The gait acquisition system can be used for gait analysis. The traditional wearable gait acquisition system will lead to large errors in gait parameters due to different wearing positions of sensors. The gait acquisition system based on marker method is expensive and needs to be used by combining with the force measurement system under the guidance of rehabilitation doctors. Due to the complex operation, it is inconvenient for clinical application. In this paper, a gait signal acquisition system that combines foot pressure detection and Azure Kinect system is designed. Fifteen subjects are organized to participate in gait test, and relevant data are collected. The calculation method of gait spatiotemporal parameters and joint angle parameters is proposed, and the consistency analysis and error analysis of the gait parameters of proposed system and camera marking method are carried out. The results show that the parameters obtained by the two systems have good consistency (Pearson correlation coefficient r ≥ 0.9, P < 0.05) and have small error (root mean square error of gait parameters is less than 0.1, root mean square error of joint angle parameters is less than 6). In conclusion, the gait acquisition system and its parameter extraction method proposed in this paper can provide reliable data acquisition results as a theoretical basis for gait feature analysis in clinical medicine.

Cancer Research and Clinic 2022;34(6):439-444
Objective:To investigate the correlation of OCA2 gene rs4778137 single nucleotide polymorphism with the prognosis of early breast cancer patients receiving epirubicin-based regimen chemotherapy. Methods:The data of 152 patients with early breast cancer who received epirubicin combined with cyclophosphamide and docetaxel (EC-T regimen) chemotherapy in the First People's Hospital of Ziyang from April 2010 to January 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. OCA2 gene rs4778137 single nucleotide polymorphism of peripheral venous blood before chemotherapy was detected. The follow-up was up to April 2017, recurrence and disease-free survival (DFS) were analyzed. DFS of patients with different rs4778137 locus genotype in patients with different estrogen receptor (ER)/progesterone receptor (PR) expressions, human epithelial factor receptor 2 (HER2) expressions and Ki-67 positive index were analyzed. Results:The median follow-up time was 60 months (28-80 months). There were 2 cases of lost follow-up and 26 cases of recurrence. Among 150 patients with follow-up results, 68 cases (45.33%) of rs4778137 genotype were CC genotype, 47 cases (31.33%) of GC genotype and 35 cases (23.33%) of GG genotype. There were significant differences in N staging, HER2 expression and ER/PR expression among patients with or without recurrence ( χ2 value was 5.79, 6.08 and 6.05; P value was 0.016, 0.014 and 0.014, respectively). The 5-year DFS rate of 150 breast cancer patients was 82.2%, and there was no significant difference in DFS among patients with different rs4778137 locus genotype ( χ2 = 2.35, P = 0.167). Cox regression analysis showed that N staging and ER/PR expression were independent influencing factors of DFS in breast cancer patients (all P < 0.05). Among 71 ER/PR-negative patients, there was a statistically significant difference in DFS of patients with different rs4778137 locus genotype ( χ2 = 6.52, P = 0.030). Among 79 ER/PR-positive patients, 60 HER2-positive patients and 90 HER2-negative patients, 118 cases with Ki-67 positive index >14% and 32 cases with Ki-67 positive index≤14%, there were no statistically significant differences in DFS of patients with different rs4778137 locus genotype (all P > 0.05). Conclusions:The DFS of ER/PR-negative patients with early breast cancer who received epirubicin-based regimen chemotherapy is correlated with OCA2 gene rs4778137 single nucleotide polymorphism. Patients with GG genotype at rs4778137 locus have better prognosis.
