Background Although current evidence suggests a link between outdoor air pollution and depressive symptoms, the effect of solid fuel use (a significant indoor air pollutant) on depressive symptoms in China's rural middle-aged and elderly population remains poorly understood. Objective To explore the association between solid fuel use for cooking and depressive symptoms among middle-aged and elderly people in rural areas of China, and to provide a basis for the prevention and control of depressive symptoms among residents in rural areas. Methods Data were obtained from the 2020 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), depressive symptoms were assessed using 8-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), and cooking fuel type was self-reported. Subsequently, two-level binary unconditional logistic regression models were fitted to assess the impact of solid fuel use for cooking on depressive symptoms. Results A total of 7991 participants aged 45 years and older [mean age (58.52±9.18) years] were included in the study, with a mean CES-D score of 6.07±4.48 and a mean positive depressive symptoms rate of 34% (40.54% in the solid fuel group and 30.81% in the clean fuel group, χ²=74.40, P<0.001). After controlling for potential confounding covariates, rural middle-aged and elderly residents in the solid fuel group had a higher risk of reporting depressive symptoms than those in the clean fuel group (OR=1.36, 95%CI: 1.20-1.54), an association that was unaffected by participant characteristics and was positive across age and gender groups. Conclusion There is a positive association between solid fuel use for cooking and depressive symptoms in middle-aged and elderly people in rural areas of China. It is recommended that rural areas promote the upgrading of stoves through the installation of ventilation equipment or the switch from solid cooking fuel to clean fuel. This approach is directed toward reducing exposure to household air pollution, alleviating the prevalence of depression among middle-aged and elderly residents in vast rural areas, and enhancing their mental health.

To investigate the effects and mechanisms of the water extract from Sorbus tianschanica(STE) on asthmatic airway inflammation, the mice were randomly divided into six groups, including a control group, a model group, a positive drug dexamethasone group(2 mg·kg~(-1)), a low-dose STE group(1 g·kg~(-1)), a medium-dose STE group(2 g·kg~(-1)), and a high-dose STE group(4 g·kg~(-1)). Except for the control group, all groups were subjected to ovalbumin induction to establish an asthma mouse model. The anti-inflammatory effects of STE were evaluated by examining pathological changes in lung tissue and measuring the levels of interleukin(IL)-4 and IL-5 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF). Transcriptomic and proteomic methods were further employed to analyze differentially expressed genes and proteins, as well as their associated signaling pathways in lung tissue. Subsequently, the expression changes of key genes were verified by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR), and immunohistochemistry and Western blot methods were used to explore the regulatory mechanisms of STE in the pathogenesis of asthma in mice. Molecular docking was performed by using AutoDock Vina software to evaluate the binding affinity of the main active components in STE with the target proteins, including phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase catalytic subunit α(PIK3CA), Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4), protein kinase B1(Akt1), and matrix metallopeptidase 9(MMP9). The results showed significant inflammatory cell infiltration and fibrous tissue proliferation in the lung tissue of mice in the model group. However, these pathological changes were markedly reduced following STE intervention. Compared with those of the control group, the expression levels of IL-4 and IL-5 in the BALF of the model group were significantly increased but notably decreased following STE intervention. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses identified key genes and proteins associated with allergic asthma, including tumor necrosis factor(TNF), IL-6, TLR4, PIK3CA, and MMP9. RT-qPCR validation revealed that high-dose STE intervention significantly downregulated the expressions of PIK3CA, IL-6, Akt1, MMP9, IL-13, nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB), TNF, CXC motif chemokine ligand 1(CXCL1), and TLR4 mRNAs and significantly upregulated the expression of signal transducer and activator of transcription 1(STAT1) mRNA. Western blot and immunohistochemical analyses confirmed that STE significantly downregulated the expressions of MMP9, TLR4, PIK3CA, and phosphorylated protein kinase B(p-Akt) in lung tissue of asthmatic mice. Moreover, molecular docking demonstrated that kaempferol-3,7-diglucoside, isoquercitrin, quercetin-3-gentiobioside, and hyperoside in STE exhibited stable binding affinities with PIK3CA, TLR4, Akt1, and MMP9, suggesting that the active components may exert anti-inflammatory effects by targeting and modulating asthma-related signaling pathways. In summary, STE exerts anti-asthmatic effects by inhibiting the expressions of PIK3CA, MMP9, p-Akt, and TLR4 and regulating the TLR4/PI3K/Akt/MMP9 signaling pathway.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of traditional Chinese Five-body balance exercise on patients with preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm). METHODS: Fifteen patients with PRISm and 15 patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were recruited from the Outpatient Department of Guang'anmen Hospital and Beijing Niujie Health Service Center from April to December, 2023. Participants in both groups attended supervised Five-body balance exercise training twice a week for 12 weeks. Patients with COPD continued their regular medication regimen during the intervention period. The endpoints were mean changes in the 6-min walk test (6MWT), St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) score, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), pulmonary function, and scores of COPD assessment test (CAT), modified British Medical Research Council, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, and Self-Rating Depression Scale from baseline to 12 weeks. Adverse events were monitored throughout the study. RESULTS: The PRISm group showed a significant improvement from baseline to week 12 in 6MWT, SGRQ symptom score, and forced vital capacity (FVC) compared to the COPD group (P<0.05). No significant between-group changes were observed in other outcome measurements (P>0.05). In addition, compared with baseline, both groups exhibited improvements in 6MWT, SGRQ score, and CPET at week 12 (P<0.05). The PRISm group also showed a significant increase in forced expiratory volume in 1 s and FVC, as well as a significant decrease in CAT score at week 12 (P<0.05). No adverse events were reported. CONCLUSION Patients with PRISm may benefit from Five-body balance exercise training, which can improve the exercise capacity, health-related quality of life, and lung function. Hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain damage poses a high risk of death or lifelong disability, yet effective treatments remain elusive. Here, we demonstrated that miR-100-5p levels in the lesioned cortex increased after HI insult in neonatal mice. Knockdown of miR-100-5p expression in the brain attenuated brain injury and promoted functional recovery, through inhibiting the cleaved-caspase-3 level, microglia activation, and the release of proinflammation cytokines following HI injury. Engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs) containing neuron-targeting rabies virus glycoprotein (RVG) and miR-100-5p antagonists (RVG-EVs-Antagomir) selectively targeted brain lesions and reduced miR-100-5p levels after intranasal delivery. Both pre- and post-HI administration showed therapeutic benefits. Mechanistically, we identified protein phosphatase 3 catalytic subunit alpha (Ppp3ca) as a novel candidate target gene of miR-100-5p, inhibiting c-Fos expression and neuronal apoptosis following HI insult. In conclusion, our non-invasive method using engineered EVs to deliver miR-100-5p antagomirs to the brain significantly improves functional recovery after HI injury by targeting Ppp3ca to suppress neuronal apoptosis.

Objective To explore the efficacy and safety of standard pulsed radiofrequency for treating rare-site glomus tumors.Methods A prospective self before-and-after control study was conducted and 6 pa-tients diagnosed as glomus tumors in the pain department of Yongkang Municipal First People's Hospital from June 2022 to January 2023 served as the study subjects.Among them,1 case was located in the outer beam of deltoid muscle in the upper arm,and 5 cases were located under the nail beds of the hands/feet.All subjects underwent the standard pulsed radiofrequency treatment under ultrasound guidance and were fol-lowed up for at least 12 months.The changes in the preoperative and postoperative Numerical Rating Scale(NRS)scores were observed,and the changes in the"typical triad",healing degree of the nail growth matrix and recurrence of pain were recorded.Results The postoperative follow-up results showed that all patients had significant decreases in NRS scores,indicating that the pain degree obtained the effective control.Among them,4 patients did not experience the pain recurrence after adopting the standard pulsed radiofrequency;1 pa-tient had pain recurrence in postoperative 6 months and the tumor body was ultimately removed by surgery.Apart from the patient 2 developing transient subungual congestion,no significant adverse events were observed.Conclusion The standard pulsed radiofrequency treatment is a safe and effective therapeutic method for pain caused by rare-site glomus tumors.

Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1(APE 1)is a multifunctional protein that plays important roles in DNA repair and regulation of gene expression.Because APE 1 is overexpressed in various cancers,it can serve as a cancer biomarker for aiding clinical diagnosis,guiding therapy,and monitoring prognosis.On this basis,a label-free fluorescent probe was designed based on the primer exchange reaction(PER)strategy for highly sensitive detection of APE 1 activity.In the absence of APE 1,the structure of catalytic hairpin(HP)was stable and could not form G-quadruplex.Therefore,the background fluorescence of this sensing system was very low due to the dissociation of thioflavin T(ThT).In the presence of APE 1,the apurinic/apyrimidinic(AP)site of HP was cleaved by APE 1 and a short nucleic acid fragment that acted as a primer to initiate PER was generated.After PER reaction,a large number of G-quadruplex were produced,which could specifically bind with ThT and resulted in significant increase of fluorescence signal.The combination of low background design of HP and PER amplification made this biosensor had high sensitivity with a detection limit(3σ)of 0.0008 U/mL.Furthermore,the primer sequence was directly generated by the cleavage of APE 1 without additional addition,which not only increased the specificity of the reaction,but also simplified the experiment procedure.Moreover,the use of label-free fluorescence signal reduced the cost of the experiment,and realized rapid detection of APE 1.Finally,this sensor was used to detect APE 1 in human serum samples with spiked recoveries of 91%-104%,proving great potential in study of biological enzyme.

Objective:To explore the feasibility and recent efficacy of iliac vein molding and stenting in daytime treatment mode in patients with iliac vein stenosis.Methods:Medical records of iliac vein molding and stenting performed in the ipsilateral great saphenous vein approach conducted from February 2017 to March 2022 were retrospective reviewed.There were 21 cases,6 males and 15 females.Age ranged from 37 to 79 years[(62.5±10.2)years].The stenosis in the 21 limbs simply involved the common iliac veins in 16 patients,2 patients had the simple and external iliac veins,and both the total and external iliac veins in 3 patients.Both iliac vein molding and iliac vein stenting were performed through the ipsilateral great saphenous vein approach.The patients with simple iliac vein stenosis with great saphenous vein valve insufficiency also underwent radiofrequency closure of great saphenous vein and flexural vein sclerosis therapy simultaneously.Regular postoperative direct oral anticoagulants therapy and stress therapy were followed.All the patients were hospitalized for less than 24 h.Results:All the 21 patients operations were successful(the success rate was 100％),without any intraoperative compli-cations.Immediate postoperative complications were puncture point bleeding in 1 case.The bandage gauze was completely wet.The bleeding was stopped after 5min of recompression.All the patients were hospitalized for less than 24 h.Follow-up results:The 3-month follow-up rate after operation was 100％.Absolute effective 18 cases(18/21,85.7％).Relatively effective(postmentation still after surgery,but with less extent)in 3 cases(3/21,14.3％).The iliac vein stents were unobstructed,and the trunk of the great saphenous vein was well closed in the patients with great saphenous vein radiofrequency treat-ment.The 6-month follow-up rate after operation was 71.4％(15/21).Of these,14 cases(14/15,93.3％)were absolutely effective.Relatively effective(postmentation still after surgery,but with less ex-tent)in 1 case(1/15,6.7％).The iliac vein stents were no restenosis or obstruction,and the trunk of the great saphenous vein was well closed in the patients with great saphenous vein radiofrequency treat-ment.Conclusion:The interventional treatment technique of iliac vein stenosis is feasible in the daytime treatment mode,with clear advantages and satisfactory recent efficacy.

Surgery-based multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment is the preferred treatment strategy for local advanced esophageal cancer. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy have been recommended by the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) guideline. With the advent of immunotherapy, neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy has received much attention, and the first phase Ⅲ study has also confirmed that neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined chemotherapy is a promising treatment option. This article will review the recent advances and hot spots of neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy.

Objective To investigate the protective effect of dandelion flavone(DF)on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced colon epithelial cell injury by intervening oxidative stress and inflammation with AT-specific binding protein 2(SATB2).Methods Colon epithelial cells FHC were cultured.FHC cells were randomly divided into control group(normal cultured),LPS group(10 μg·mL-1 LPS),experimental-L group(10 μg·mL-1 LPS+1 μmol·L-1 DF),experimental-H group(10 μg·mL-1 LPS+5 μmol·L-1 DF),experimental-H+sh-NC group(transfected with sh-NC+10 μg·mL-1 LPS+5 μmol·mL-1 DF),experimental-H+sh-SATB2 group(transfected with sh-SATB2+10 μg·mL-1 LPS+5μmol·L-1 DF).The relative expression level of SATB2 protein in FHC cells was detected by Western blotting.The survival rate of FHC cells in each group was determined by tetramethylazolium blue(MTT).The apoptosis rate of FHC cells in each group was detected by flow cytometry.The levels of malondialdehyde(MDA)and interleukin-6(IL-6)in FHC cells were detected by the kit.Results The relative expression levels of SATB2 protein in control group,LPS group,experimental-H group,experimental-H+sh-NC group and experimental-H+sh-SATB2 group were 0.83±0.09,0.19±0.03,0.66±0.05,0.62±0.07 and 0.23±0.03,respectively;cell viability rates were(100.00±1.00)％,(48.16±4.31)％,(85.31±5.83)％,(81.39±6.47)％and(58.75±5.24)％,respectively;cell apoptosis rates were(3.27±0.81)％,(41.26±2.09)％,(11.35±1.04)％,(10.29±1.26)％and(35.87±2.15)％,respectively;MDA levels were(13.16±1.73),(52.87±3.49),(23.19±2.05),(20.98±3.17)and(44.87±3.05)μmol·L-1,respectively;IL-6 levels were(507.18±103.26),(2 132.09±198.15),(883.16±136.92),(801.69±119.85)and(1 736.29±206.91)pg·mL-1,respectively.The above indicators in the LPS group showed significant differences compared to the control group(all P＜0.05);the above indicators in the experimental-H group showed significant differences compared to the LPS group(all P＜0.05);the above indicators in the experimental-H+sh-SATB2 group showed significant differences compared to the experimental-H+sh-NC group(all P＜0.05).Conclusion DF has a protective effect on LPS-induced colon epithelial cell injury by intervening oxidative stress and inflammation through SATB2.

ObjectiveTo investigate the therapeutic effect of Dayuanyin on acute lung injury induced by H1N1 infection and decipher the potential mechanism. MethodThe constituents in Dayuanyin were analyzed by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-exactive orbitrap mass spectrometry （UHPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap MS）. Forty-eight female BALB/c mice were randomized into normal， model， oseltamivir （19.5 mg·kg^-1）， and low-， medium-， and high-dose （2.73， 5.46， 10.92 g·kg^-1） Dayuanyin groups. The normal and model groups were administrated with deionized water by gavage， and the other groups were administrated with the corresponding drugs by gavage. On day 3 of drug administration， the normal group received nasal inhalation of normal saline， and the other groups were inoculated intranasally with A/RP/8/34 （H1N1） for the modeling of influenza virus infection. Mice were administrated with drugs continuously for 7 days and weighed daily. Sampling was performed 12 h after the last administration， and the lung tissue was weighed to calculate the lung index. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was performed to observe the pathological and morphological changes of the lung tissue and bronchi. The cytometric bead array （CBA） was used to measure the serum levels of interferon-gamma （IFN-γ）， C-X-C motif ligand 1 （CXCL1）， tumor necrosis factor-alpha （TNF-α）， chemokine ligand 2 （CCL2）， interleukin-12p70 （IL-12p70）， chemokine ligand 5 （CCL5）， interleukin-1β （IL-1β）， chemokine （C-X-C motif） ligand 10 （CXCL10）， granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor （GM-CSF）， interleukin-10 （IL-10）， interferon-beta （IFN-β）， interferon-alpha （IFN-α）， and interleukin-6 （IL-6）. According to the results of mass spectrometry and network pharmacology， we analyzed the mechanism of Dayuanyin in treating acute lung injury caused by H1N1. The protein levels of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 （ERK1/2）， p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase （p38 MAPK）， nuclear factor-kappa B （NF-κB）， and their phosphorylated forms were determined by Western blot. The mRNA levels of myeloid differentiation factor 88 （MyD88）， Toll-like receptor 3 （TLR3）， Toll-like receptor 7 （TLR7）， and Toll-like receptor 8 （TLR8） in the lung tissue were measured by Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction （Real-time PCR）. ResultA total of 57 compounds， including paeoniflorin and baicalein， were detected in Dayuanyin. Compared with the normal group， the model group showed decreased body weight （P<0.01）， lung edema and hemorrhage， increased lung index （P<0.01）， and elevated levels of IFN-γ， IL-12p70， CCL5， IL-1β， CXCL10， GM-CSF， IFN-β， and IL-6 （P<0.01）. Compared with the model group， Dayuanyin attenuated alveolar wall thickening， capillary congestion， and immune cell infiltration， reduced the alterations in body weight and lung index （P<0.01）， and down-regulated the protein levels of IFN-γ， IL-12p70， CCL5， IL-1β， CXCL10， GM-CSF， IFN-β， and IL-6 （P<0.01）. A total of 57 key genes were predicted by network pharmacological analysis， of which the MAPK signaling pathway was the main target signaling pathway. Compared with the normal group， the model group showed up-regulation in the protein levels of phosphorylation （p）-ERK1/2， p-p38 MAPK， and p-NF-κB （P<0.01） and the mRNA levels of TLR7， TLR8， MyD88， and TLR3 （P<0.05， P<0.01）. Compared with the model group， Dayuanyin lowered the phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2， p38 MAPK， and NF-κB p65 in a dose-dependent manner （P<0.01） and down-regulated the mRNA levels of TLR3， TLR7， TLR8， and MyD88 （P<0.01）. ConclusionDayuanyin can prevent and control H1N1 infection-induced acute lung injury by inhibiting the TLR/MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway.
