1.Treatment of irreducible intertrochanteric femoral fractures in elderly by novel bone hook combined with finger-guided technique.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of the novel bone hook combined with finger-guided technique in the treatment of irreducible intertrochanteric femoral fractures in elderly.
METHODS:
Between January 2021 and August 2023, 23 elderly patients with irreducible intertrochanteric femoral fractures were treated with the novel bone hook combined with finger-guided technique. There were 10 males and 13 females; the age ranged from 68 to 93 years (mean, 76.2 years). The time from injury to operation ranged from 36 to 76 hours (mean, 51.2 hours). According to the classification standard proposed by TONG Dake et alin 2021, there were 10 cases of typeⅠA, 1 case of typeⅠB, 6 cases of type ⅡA, 4 cases of type ⅡB, and 2 cases of type ⅡC. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, intraoperative fluoroscopy frequences, and quality of fracture reduction were recorded. The fracture healing time and occurrence of postoperative complications were observed during follow-up. At last follow-up, the Harris scoring system was used to evaluate the hip joint function.
RESULTS:
The operation time was 42-95 minutes (mean, 52.1 minutes). The intraoperative blood loss was 40-420 mL (mean, 126.5 mL). Intraoperative fluoroscopy was performed 14-34 times (mean, 20.7 times). According to the criteria proposed by Chang et al, the quality of fracture reduction was rated as good in 20 cases and acceptable in 3 cases. All patients were followed up 6-20 months (mean, 10.2 months). X-ray film showed that all fractures healed with the healing time of 3.0-5.5 months (mean, 4.0 months). At last follow-up, the Harris score of the hip joint ranged from 82 to 97 points (mean, 90.4 points). Among them, 14 cases were rated as excellent and 9 cases as good. No complication such as coxa vara, cutting of the cephalomedullary nail, nail withdrawal, or nail breakage occurred during follow-up.
CONCLUSION
The treatment of elderly patients with irreducible intertrochanteric femoral fractures by using the novel bone hook combined with finger-guided technique can achieve high-quality fracture reduction and fixation, and has a good effectiveness.

2.Effectiveness analysis of 5G remote robotic surgery in pelvic fracture treatment.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the effectiveness of 5G remote robotic surgery in the treatment of pelvic fractures.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 160 patients with pelvic fractures admitted between July 2023 and June 2024 who met the selection criteria. Among these patients, 80 underwent internal fixation surgery with the assistance of 5G remote robotic surgery (5G group), while 80 received local robotic surgical assistance (control group). Baseline characteristics, including gender, age, body mass index, disease duration, cause of injury, and fracture classification, were compared between the two groups, and no significant difference was found ( P>0.05). The incision length, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, accuracy of screw placement, maximum residual displacement postoperatively, quality of fracture reduction, incidence of complications, Majeed pelvic function score and classification at last follow-up were recorded and compared between the two groups.
RESULTS:
In the 5G group, 180 screws were implanted during surgery, while 213 screws were implanted in the control group. The 5G group demonstrated significantly reduced intraoperative blood loss and shorter incision length compared to the control group ( P<0.05). No significant difference was observed between the two groups in terms of operation time or hospital stay ( P>0.05). Radiographic evaluation revealed excellent and good reduction rates of 98.8% (79/80) in the 5G group and 97.5% (78/80) in the control group, while excellent and good screw placement accuracy rates were 98.3% (177/180) in the 5G group and 95.8% (204/213) in the control group. No significant difference was found between the two groups in maximum residual displacement, reduction quality, or screw placement accuracy ( P>0.05). All patients were followed up 7-16 months (mean, 11.3 months), with no significant difference in follow-up duration between the groups ( P>0.05). No perioperative or follow-up complication, such as wound infection, iatrogenic fractures, iatrogenic neurovascular injury, screw loosening or breakage, or nonunion, were observed in either group. The control group exhibited a worse degree of gait alteration compared to the 5G group ( P<0.05), while no significant difference was found in incidences of squatting limitation or persistent pain ( P>0.05). At last follow-up, no significant difference was observed between the groups in Majeed pelvic function scores or grading ( P>0.05).
CONCLUSION
Compared with the local surgery group, 5G remote robotic surgery supported by remote expert technical guidance demonstrated smaller incision lengths, less intraoperative blood loss, and fewer postoperative complications, and was shown to be a precise, minimally invasive, safe, and reliable surgical method.

3.Clinical study of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty versus open reduction and internal plate fixation for treatment of Neer three/four-part proximal humeral fractures in elderly.

OBJECTIVE:
To compare the effectiveness and shoulder function of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) and open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) in the treatment of Neer three/four-part proximal humeral fractures in the elderly.
METHODS:
Randomized controlled analysis was conducted on 68 patients over 70 years old with Neer three/four-part proximal humeral fractures treated with RTSA or ORIF between January 2020 and June 2022. The patients were randomly divided into RTSA group ( n=32) and ORIF group ( n=36). There was no significant difference ( P>0.05) in the baseline data such as age, gender, body mass index, injured side, Neer classification, and preoperative Charlson comorbidity index, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Constant shoulder score, Oxford shoulder score (OSS), and hemoglobin (Hb). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, reduction of Hb on the 3rd day after operation, hospital stay, total cost of hospitalization, complication incidence, range of motion of shoulder joint at 2 years after operation, VAS score before operation and at 5 days and 1 month after operation, Constant shoulder score and OSS score before operation and at 2 years after operation, and imaging results during follow-up were recorded and compared between the two groups.
RESULTS:
Compared with the ORIF group, the RTSA group had longer operation time, less intraoperative blood loss, and higher total cost of hospitalization ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in Hb reduction on the 3rd day after operation between the two groups ( P>0.05). The VAS scores significantly improved in both groups at 5 days and 1 month after operation ( P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the two groups ( P>0.05). All patients were followed up 26-35 months, with an average of 31.2 months. In the RTSA group, there were 2 cases of poor healing of superficial incision and 1 case of transient nerve injury. There was no complication such as bone resorption around the prosthesis, lucent band, prosthesis loosening, or periprosthetic fracture in all patients. In the ORIF group, there was 1 case of poor healing of superficial incision, 3 cases of nonunion of fracture, 1 case of arthritis secondary to humeral head necrosis, and 1 case of bone absorption of large tuberosity, and no displacement or fracture failure of internal fixation was found in all patients. There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications [9.4% (3/32) vs 16.7% (6/36)] between the two groups [ OR (95% CI): 0.828 (0.171, 4.014), P=0.814]. In the RTSA group, 28 cases were graded 0 and 4 cases were graded 1 at 2 years after operation. Constant and OSS scores of RTSA group were significantly better than those of ORIF group ( P<0.05). The Constant score was significantly better than ORIF group in activity and strength, range of motion, lifting, abduction, and external rotation ( P<0.05), and there was no significant difference in pain, daily function, and internal rotation between the two groups ( P>0.05). The RTSA group had a significantly greater range of motion in lifting, abduction, and external rotation than ORIF group ( P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in internal rotation between the two groups ( P>0.05).
CONCLUSION
Application of RTSA as the initial treatment of Neer three/four-part proximal humeral fractures in the elderly can achieve better rehabilitation of joint activity and lower risk of early reoperation, and improve the quality of life of elderly fracture patients. However, the difficulty of revision and the high cost of treatment require the surgeon to pay full attention and strictly grasp the indications.

4.Impact of surgical timing on effectiveness of closed reduction and percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation for pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures.

OBJECTIVE:
To compare the effectiveness of early versus delayed closed reduction and percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation in the treatment of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on 468 children with supracondylar humerus fractures, who were admitted between January 2020 and December 2023 and met the inclusion criteria. Among them, 187 children were treated during 12 hours after injury (early operation group) and 281 were treated after 12 hours (delayed operation group). There was no significant difference between the two groups ( P>0.05) in the gender, age, injury mechanism, fracture side and type, while there was significant difference in interval from injury to operation ( P<0.05). The operative outcomes, including the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, the length of hospital stay, fracture healing time, elbow function assessed by Flynn criteria at 3 months after operation, and complications, were compared.
RESULTS:
Compared to the delayed operation group, the early operation group demonstrated significantly shorter operation time and less intraoperative blood loss ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the length of hospital stay between the two groups ( P>0.05). All children were followed up 3-12 months. The follow-up time was (6.7±2.9) months in the early operation group and (6.9±2.8) months in the delayed operation group, showing no significant difference between the two groups ( P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the fracture healing time between the two groups ( P>0.05). At 3 months after operation, the early operation group exhibited superior Flynn elbow functional outcomes to the delayed operation group ( P<0.05). In the early operation group, there was 1 case of fracture non-union and 3 cases of cubital varus deformity after operation. In the delayed operation group, there was 1 case of nerve injury, 7 cases of fracture non-union, and 12 cases of cubital varus deformity after operation. There was significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups ( P<0.05). One case of the early operation group and 10 cases of the delayed operation group underwent secondary operation, showing no significant difference in the incidence of secondary operation between the two groups ( P>0.05).
CONCLUSION
For pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures, early closed reduction and percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation can reduce operation time, minimize intraoperative blood loss and postoperative complications, and improve the functional recovery compared to delayed operation.

5.Poster Fusion Cage combined with xenogeneic bone graft augmentation for bone defect management in distal radius fractures.

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the effectiveness of Poster Fusion Cage combined with xenogeneic bone graft augmentation for bone defect management in distal radius fractures.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on 20 patients with bone defects complicating distal radius fractures who met the selection criteria and were treated between June 2022 and June 2024. The cohort comprised 2 males and 18 females, aged 54-87 years (mean, 63.3 years). Etiologies included falls in 17 cases, traffic accidents in 2 cases, and crush injury in 1 case. According to AO classification, there were 5 cases of type A, 8 cases of type B, and 7 cases of type C. The interval from injury to operation ranged from 2 to 10 days (mean, 5.8 days). All patients underwent volar plate fixation augmented with Poster Fusion Cage and demineralized xenogeneic bone matrix grafting. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, fracture healing time, and postoperative complications were recorded. Radiographic parameters, including radial height, volar tilt, and ulnar deviation, were measured on standardized X-ray films obtained immediately postoperatively and at last follow-up, and whether secondary reduction loss occurred was judged. At last follow-up, wrist range of motion (extension, flexion, radial deviation, ulnar deviation, pronation, and supination) and grip strength (expressed as a percentage of the contralateral side) were measured. Wrist function was assessed using the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) score and Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) score.
RESULTS:
The operation time was 70-200 minutes (mean, 116.4 minutes), and the intraoperative blood loss was 10-80 mL (mean, 36.5 mL). All surgical incisions healed by first intention, with no neurovascular complications documented. All patients were followed up 9-12 months (mean, 11.6 months). All fractures healed normally, with a healing time of 8-14 weeks (mean, 9.95 weeks). No significant difference was observed in radial height, volar tilt, or ulnar deviation between immediate postoperatively and last follow-up ( P>0.05). All fractures achieved satisfactory reduction, with no secondary loss of reduction or implant failure occurring during follow-up. At last follow-up, the range of motion of the affected wrist joint was 60°-65° (mean, 62.5°) in extension, 67°-75° (mean, 71.1°) in flexion, 18°-23° (mean, 20.4°) in radial deviation, 28°-33° (mean, 30.1°) in ulnar deviation, 69°-80° (mean, 74.7°) in pronation, and 69°-82° (mean, 75.6°) in supination. Grip strength recovered to 75%-85% (mean, 80%) of the contralateral side. Functional scores showed a DASH score of 5-15 (mean, 9.4) and PRWE score of 8.0-12.5 (mean, 10.2).
CONCLUSION
The combination of Poster Fusion Cage and xenogeneic bone graft augmentation provides a safe and effective treatment for bone defects in distal radius fractures.

6.Comparative study on effectiveness of clavicular hook plate fixation in treatment of acromioclavicular joint dislocation and distal clavicle fractures.

OBJECTIVE:
To compare the effectiveness of clavicular hook plate fixation in the treatment of acromioclavicular joint dislocation and distal clavicle fractures.
METHODS:
A clinical data of 90 patients, who underwent clavicular hook plate fixation between January 2014 and June 2023, was retrospectively analyzed. There were 40 patients with distal clavicle fractures (fracture group) and 50 with acromioclavicular joint dislocations (dislocation group). There was no significant difference in the baseline data of gender, age, cause of injury, side of injury, time from injury to operation, and constituent ratio of osteoporosis patients between the two groups ( P>0.05). The time to remove the internal fixators and the occurrence of complications were recorded. Before removing the internal fixator and at 3 months after removing, the visual analogue scale (VAS) score was used to evaluate the degree of pain, and the mobility of the shoulder joint in forward flexion, elevation, and abduction was measured. Before removing the internal fixators, the Constant-Murley score and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) score were used to evaluate the function of the shoulder joint. X-ray films of the shoulder joint were taken during follow-up to observe the occurrence of subacromial osteolysis, acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis, and distal clavicle bone atrophy. Subgroup comparison was conducted between patients with and without subacromial osteolysis in the two groups.
RESULTS:
All incisions healed by first intention in both groups. All patients were followed up 1-9 years, with a median of 5 years; the difference in follow-up time between the two groups was not significant ( P>0.05). During follow-up, subacromial osteolysis occurred in 74 cases, including 41 cases of typeⅠand 33 cases of type Ⅱ, distal clavicle bone atrophy in 15 cases, and acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis in 8 cases. There were significant differences in the removal time of internal fixators, the incidence of bone atrophy, and the incidence of osteoarthritis between the two groups ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of subacromial osteolysis ( P>0.05). Before removing the internal fixators, there was no significant difference in VAS score, UCLA score, and Constant-Murley score between the two groups ( P>0.05), while there were significant differences in shoulder joint range of motion in all directions ( P<0.05). After removing the internal fixators, only the difference in elevation was significant ( P<0.05). Within the group comparison, the VAS score and mobility of shoulder joint in abduction and elevation after removing the internal fixators were significantly superior to those before removing ( P<0.05). In the fracture and dislocation groups, there was only a significant difference in plate length between the subgroup with and without subacromial osteolysis ( P<0.05), while there was no significant difference in the above other indicators ( P>0.05).
CONCLUSION
Clavicular hook plate is a good choice for treating acromioclavicular dislocation or distal clavicle fractures, but the incidence of subacromial osteolysis is higher, and the degree of bone resorption is more severe in fracture patients. After removal of the internal fixator, the shoulder functions significantly improve. It is recommended to remove the internal fixator as soon as possible within the allowable range of the condition.

7.Recent advances regarding diagnosis and treatment of fracture-related infection.

OBJECTIVE:
To review the current research status on the diagnosis and treatment of fracture-related infection (FRI).
METHODS:
The research literature in the field of FRI both domestically and internationally in recent years were widely reviewed, and the research progress of FRI from the aspects of definition and classification, epidemiological characteristics, diagnosis and treatment elaborated, in order to provide reference for clinical practices.
RESULTS:
In recent years, specific classifications for FRI have gradually emerged. FRI is characterized by high incidence, high recurrence, high disability rates, and significant economic costs. Key diagnostic points include clinical signs and symptoms, imaging tests, serological biomarkers, pathogen identification, and histopathological examination. Treatment principles encompass debridement, management of implants (retention or removal), systemic and local antibiotic use, reconstruction of bone and soft tissue defects, and functional and psychological rehabilitation.
CONCLUSION
Although FRI is a catastrophic complication following limb bone trauma, early precise diagnosis and standardized treatment are key to improving cure rates, reducing recurrence, and enhancing patients' quality of life.

8.Attributable disease burden of low bone mineral density related fractures in people over 50 years old from 1990 to 2023 in China.

OBJECTIVE:
To estimate the population attributable disease burden (PAD) of low bone mineral density (LBMD) related fractures (fragility fractures) among Chinese people over 50 years old from 1990 to 2023, using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023 (GBD 2023), and to provide evidence for prevention strategies and health resource allocation.
METHODS:
Based on the GBD 2023, the LBMD summary exposure values (SEV), fracture incidence, years lived with disability (YLDs), and LBMD-related falls YLDs of Chinese people over 50 years old from 1990 to 2023 were extracted. PAD was calculated with population attributable fraction (PAF), and an entropy-weight method was applied to evaluate the contribution of individual fracture sites. Temporal trends and sex differences were examined with Joinpoint regression.
RESULTS:
From 1990 to 2023, the age-standardized SEV of LBMD in people over 50 years old showed an overall decline [average annual percent change (AAPC)=-0.564%]. Age-standardized fracture incidence, fracture YLDs rate, and LBMD-related falls YLDs rate all exhibited W-shaped upward trends (AAPC=1.045%, 0.296%, and 0.724%, respectively). PAF-based estimates indicated that LBMD-attributable fracture incidence likewise increased in a "W-shaped" manner (AAPC=0.558%), whereas the corresponding YLDs rate showed an overall W-shaped decline (AAPC=-0.193%). In international comparison, China and the global average displayed broadly concordant directions of change, with greater volatility in China and a progressive narrowing of the gap after 2015. Regarding sex differences, fracture YLDs rates were consistently higher in the males, whereas the other burden indicators were higher in the females; the temporal patterns were similar in both sexes. Entropy weight method identified hip fractures as contributing most to incidence (weight 0.133), and pelvic fractures as the largest contributor to YLDs rate (weight 0.115).
CONCLUSION
Since 1990, the LBMD attributable fracture burden in China's older population has risen, with female and hip or pelvic fractures bearing the heaviest load. Strengthened osteoporosis screening, improved insurance coverage, and targeted health education are urgently needed to curb further increases in disease burden.

9.Effectiveness comparison of medial-lateral approach and posteromedian approach in release of elbow stiffness after distal humeral fractures surgery.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the difference of effectiveness between medial-lateral approach and posteromedian approach in the release of elbow stiffness after distal humeral fracture surgery.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 41 patients with elbow stiffness following medial and lateral plate fixation for distal humeral fractures, admitted between January 2021 and June 2023 and meeting selection criteria. Patients were divided into the medial-lateral approach release group (study group, 20 cases) and the posteromedian approach release group (control group, 21 cases) based on surgical approach. Baseline data including age, gender, affected side, body mass index, disease duration, and preoperative extension angle, flexion angle, range of motion, visual analogue scale (VAS) pain score, Mayo elbow performance score, ulnar nerve symptoms, and heterotopic ossification showed no significant difference between groups ( P>0.05). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and complication incidence were recorded and compared between groups. Clinical effectiveness was evaluated using pre- and postoperative Mayo score, VAS score, elbow extension/flexion angles, and range of motion on the affected side. Statistical analysis focused on changes in these indicators relative to preoperative values.
RESULTS:
There was no significant difference in operation time and intraoperative blood loss between the two groups ( P>0.05). Patients in both groups were followed up 15-36 months, with a mean of 23.8 months; there was no significant difference in the follow-up time between the two groups ( t=-1.542, P=0.131). In the control group, 1 patient had obvious subcutaneous hematoma and 5 patients had poor wound healing within 2 months after operation, all of which were cured by symptomatic treatment, while no related complications occurred in the study group, there was a significant difference in poor wound healing incidence between the two groups ( P<0.05). At last follow-up, 2 patients in the study group and 3 patients in the control group had mild symptoms of ulnar nerve numbness, and there was no significant difference in the incidence of ulnar nerve symptoms ( P>0.05). All patients had no recurrence or new onset of heterotopic ossification, no skin necrosis or reoperation due to complications. At last follow-up, elbow extension angle, flexion angle, flexion-extension range of motion, VAS score, and Mayo score significantly improved in both groups when compared with the preoperative ones ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference between the change values in elbow extension angle and VAS score between the two groups ( P>0.05); the change values in flexion angle, range of motion, and Mayo score in the study group were significantly better than those in the control group ( P<0.05).
CONCLUSION
The medial-lateral approach can release the elbow stiffness and concurrently remove the medial, lateral, or posterior lateral plates. The incision minimizes disruption to rehabilitation exercises and reduces complications like inadequate wound healing, ultimately leading to improved treatment outcomes.

10.Predictive value of combined examination of coagulation and fibrinolysis indexes for deep venous thrombosis after proximal femoral nail anti-rotation in elderly patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the prognostic significance of combined coagulation and fibrinolysis marker analysis in predicting the development of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) following proximal femoral anti-rotation intramedullary nail (PFNA) surgery in elderly patients with intertrochanteric femur fractures.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 80 elderly patients who underwent PFNA treatment for intertrochanteric fractures between April 2019 and April 2023. There were 26 males and 54 females. The patients' ages ranged from 60 to 85 years old, with a mean age of (76.4±5.6) years old. According to the occurrence of DVT following PFNA, patients were categorized into two groups. The DVT group were 29 patients, comprising 10 males and 19 females with a mean age of (76.9 ± 6.1)years old. And the non-DVT group were 51 patients, consisting of 16 males and 35 females with a mean age of (75.3 ± 6.9 )years old. The prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT), thrombin time(TT), plasma fibrinogen (FIB), plasma thrombin-antithrombin complex(TAT), and D-dimer levels were compared between the two groups immediately post- PFNA surgery, as well as at 3 and 7 days postoperatively. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to evaluate the relationship between plasma FIB, TAT, and D-dimer levels in patients who developed DVT. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to assess the association between each coagulation and fibrinolysis index following PFNA surgery in elderly patients and the incidence of DVT. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) was utilized to determine the predictive value of PT, APTT, TT, FIB, TAT, and D-dimer for postoperative DVT occurrence.
RESULTS:
There were no statistically significant differences in PT, APTT, and TT between the two groups immediately post-surgery, at 3 days, and at 7 days (P>0.05). At immediately, 3 days and 7 days postoperatively in DVT group, FIB were (4.68±1.77), (6.73±2.02), (8.81±2.86) g·L-1, TAT were (10.64±2.30), (12.88±3.45), (14.96±4.87) μg·L-1 respectively. D-dimer were (635.00±100.88), (720.02±168.09), (810.47±170.19) μg· L-1, respectively.In the DVT group FIB were (3.46±0.47), (3.55±0.52), (3.67±0.48) g·L-1, TAT were (8.58±3.37), (8.69±3.48), (8.80±3.50) g·L-1, D-dimer were (588.36±96.68), (589.58±96.45), (591.11±95.50) g·L-1. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations between FIB and D-dimer(r=0.428, 0.523, P<0.05), FIB and TAT(r=0.517, 0.411, P<0.05), as well as TAT and D-dimer(r=0.602, 0.596, P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis revealed that FIB OR=3.252, 95% CI(0.640, 3.975), P<0.01, TAT OR=1.461, 95% CI(1.059, 2.011), P<0.05, and D-dimer OR=3.830, 95%CI (2.032 to 7.213), P<0.01 were significantly associated with the development of DVT following PFNA surgery. The combined detection of PT, APTT, TT, FIB, TAT, and D-dimer demonstrates significantly greater predictive value for the occurrence of DVT following PFNA surgery compared to individual index detection (P<0.01).
CONCLUSION
The combined detection of PT, APTT, TT, FIB, TAT and D-D has a high predictive value for DVT in elderly patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture after PFNA, which is of vital importance in the early diagnosis of DVT and early prevention of pulmonary embolism and other serious complications.
