1.Liver involvement in pediatric rheumatic diseases
Journal of Clinical Hepatology 2025;41(5):823-827
Pediatric rheumatic diseases are a group of complex chronic inflammatory disorders, mainly including juvenile idiopathic arthritis, diffuse connective tissue diseases, systemic vasculitis, and autoinflammatory diseases. Liver involvement is quite common in pediatric rheumatic diseases. In most cases, pediatric rheumatic diseases with liver involvement manifest as varying degrees of abnormal liver enzymes or hepatomegaly and may not have significant liver parenchyma lesions, and such diseases rarely progress to liver decompensation. Only a few children with rheumatic diseases may develop severe liver lesions. Liver involvement in children with rheumatic diseases may be caused by the primary disease itself or concurrent autoimmune liver diseases, but secondary factors are more common, including drug-induced liver damage caused by drugs used to treat rheumatic diseases, viral hepatitis, and fatty liver disease. This article summarizes liver involvement in pediatric rheumatic diseases, in order to provide a reference for the etiological analysis, diagnosis, and treatment strategies of liver involvement in pediatric rheumatic diseases.

Over the past decade, mitochondrial dysfunction has been investigated as a key contributor to acute and chronic kidney disease. However, the precise molecular mechanisms linking mitochondrial damage to kidney disease remain elusive. The recent insights into the cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate (GMP-AMP) synthetase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon gene (STING) signaling pathway have revealed its involvement in many renal diseases. One of these findings is that mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) induces inflammatory responses via the cGAS-STING pathway. Herein, we provide an overview of the mechanisms underlying mtDNA release following mitochondrial damage, focusing specifically on the association between mtDNA release-activated cGAS-STING signaling and the development of kidney diseases. Furthermore, we summarize the latest findings of cGAS-STING signaling pathway in cell, with a particular emphasis on its downstream signaling related to kidney diseases. This review intends to enhance our understanding of the intricate relationship among the cGAS-STING pathway, kidney diseases, and mitochondrial dysfunction.

The distribution of Ixodes and Ana plasma carried by Ixodes ticks in Anhui Province was clarified as reference for prevention and control of anaplasmosis. In total,630 hard ticks were collected from Jinzhai County,Hanshan County,Jing-de County and Chaohu City in Anhui Province from April to August 2023.Ticks were identified by morphological analysis and 16S rRNA sequencing.Nested PCR with Anaplasma species-specific primers were used to detect 16S rRNA of Anaplasma spe-cies carried by ticks.A phylogenetic tree was constructed using MEGA11.0 software.Of the identified ticks,18.8%(18/96)were Rhipicephalus microplus and 81.2%(78/96)were Haemaphysalis longicorni in Jinzhai County of Anhui Province, all were H.longicorni in Hanshan County and Chaohu City, while the main species in Jingde County was R.microplus.The posi-tive rate of Anaplasma carried by H.longicornis was 30.9%(102/330),which included A.bovis at 1.8%(6/330),A.phagocytophilum at 21.8%(72/330)and uncultured Anaplasma species at 7.3%(24/330).R.microplus was positively cor-related to A.bovis(13.6%,18/132).The uncultured Anaplasma species was mainly detected in host-free ticks.A.phagocy-tophilum was detected in 24.4%of parasitic ticks and 15.8%of host-free ticks. The positive rates of host-free and parasitic ticks were 19.9%and 17.8%,respectively.These results show that H.longicornis and R.microplus were the dominant ticks in several counties of Anhui Province.H.longicornis and R.microplus as well as free and parasitic ticks all carried Anaplas-ma.
5.Peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets are associated with the prognosis of prostate cancer
National Journal of Andrology 2024;30(4):321-325
Objective:To explore the relationship between peripheral lymphocyte subsets and the survival of PCa patients. Methods:Using the Kaplan-Meier curve and log-rank test,we compared the overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS)of 100 PCa patients with different levels of lymphocytes.Meanwhile,we investigated the prognostic factors by univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, and counted the peripheral lymphocyte subsets by flow cytometry. Results:Both OS and PFS were significantly prolonged in the PCa patients with high levels of lymphocytes(≥747/μl),CD3+T cells(≥528/μl),CD4+T cells(≥315/μl),CD8+T cells(≥226/μl),B cells(≥105/μl)and NK cells(≥168/μl)(P<0.001).Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses indicated that CD4+T cells≤315/μl was an independent factor for the poor prognosis of PCa(HR=12.58,95%CI:3.00-52.73).Conclusion:Decreased absolute count of peripheral lymphocyte subsets is associated with the poor progno-sis of PCa.
