1.Effects of a high soy protein diet on azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colorectal cancer development in mice

Purpose:
The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) continues to rise, and the dietary protein intake has been suggested as a potential risk factor. Although the carcinogenic potential of animal-derived proteins has been well documented, the role of soy protein in colorectal carcinogenesis is controversial. This study examined the effects of a high soy protein diet on colitis-associated CRC in mice.
Methods:
Six-week-old BALB/c mice were assigned to 3 groups: 20% soy protein (20S, control), 20% soy protein with carcinogenesis (20SC), and 40% soy protein with carcinogenesis (40SC). Colorectal carcinogenesis was induced with azoxymethane and dextran sulfate sodium, and mice were fed experimental diets for 10 weeks. Disease activity, survival, colon pathology, tumor multiplicity, and inflammatory markers were assessed.
Results:
The 40SC group tended to have higher disease activity index scores than the 20S and 20SC groups (significant in parametric analysis) and exhibited reduced survival (log-rank p = 0.004). Cox regression analysis showed that the dietary protein level was independently associated with survival (hazard ratio, 0.232, p = 0.010). The colon weight-to-length ratio and mucosal thickness were significantly higher in the 40SC group than in the 20S and 20SC groups, but, the fecal lipocalin-2, ammonia, and plasma tumor necrosis factor-α and nitric oxide levels were not significantly different between 40SC and 20SC groups. Although the overall effect of diet on tumor multiplicity was not significant in the negative binomial model, a direct comparison between the 20SC (41.3 ± 4.1) and 40SC (58.7 ± 5.8) groups showed a significant difference in tumor counts.
Conclusion
High dietary soy protein intake was associated with aggravated colitis severity and reduced survival in this experimental model, and showed a potential link with increased tumor development under carcinogenic conditions. These results suggest that excessive soy protein intake may modulate inflammation-associated colorectal carcinogenesis, but additional research is needed to determine its significance in human populations.
2.Outcome of dose-escalated intensity-modulated radiotherapy for limited disease small cell lung cancer

Purpose:
An optimal once-daily radiotherapy (RT) regimen is under investigation for definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) in limited disease small cell lung cancer (LD-SCLC). We compared the efficacy and safety of dose escalation with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).
Materials and Methods:
Between January 2016 and March 2021, patients treated with definitive CCRT for LD-SCLC with IMRT were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who received a total dose <50 Gy or those with a history of thoracic RT or surgery were excluded. The patients were divided into two groups (standard and dose-escalated) based on the total biologically effective dose (BED, α/β = 10) of 70 Gy. The chemotherapeutic regimen comprised four cycles of etoposide and cisplatin.
Results:
One hundred and twenty-two patients were analyzed and the median follow-up was 27.8 months (range, 4.4 to 76.9 months). The median age of the patients was 63 years (range, 35 to 78 years) and the majority had a history of smoking (86.0%). The 1- and 3-year overall survival rates of the escalated dose group were significantly higher than those of the standard group (93.5% and 50.5% vs. 76.7% and 33.3%, respectively; p = 0.008), as were the 1- and 3-year freedom from in-field failure rates (91.4% and 66.5% vs. 73.8% and 46.9%, respectively; p = 0.018). The incidence of grade 2 or higher acute and late pneumonitis was not significantly different between the two groups (p = 0.062, 0.185).
Conclusion
Dose-escalated once-daily CCRT with IMRT led to improved locoregional control and survival, with no increase in toxicity.
3.Application of surface-guided radiation therapy in prostate cancer: comparative analysis of differences with skin marking-guided patient setup

Purpose:
Surface-guided radiation therapy is an image-guided method using optical surface imaging that has recently been adopted for patient setup and motion monitoring during treatment. We aimed to determine whether the surface guide setup is accurate and efficient compared to the skin-marking guide in prostate cancer treatment.
Materials and Methods:
The skin-marking setup was performed, and vertical, longitudinal, and lateral couch values (labeled as "M") were recorded. Subsequently, the surface-guided setup was conducted, and couch values (labeled as "S") were recorded. After performing cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), the final couch values was recorded (labeled as "C"), and the shift value was calculated (labeled as "Gap (M-S)," "Gap (M-C)," "Gap (S-C)") and then compared. Additionally, the setup times for the skin marking and surface guides were also compared.
Results:
One hundred and twenty-five patients were analyzed, totaling 2,735 treatment fractions. Gap (M-S) showed minimal differences in the vertical, longitudinal, and lateral averages (-0.03 cm, 0.07 cm, and 0.06 cm, respectively). Gap (M-C) and Gap (S-C) exhibited a mean difference of 0.04 cm (p = 0.03) in the vertical direction, a mean difference of 0.35 cm (p = 0.52) in the longitudinal direction, and a mean difference of 0.11 cm (p = 0.91) in the lateral direction. There was no correlation between shift values and patient characteristics. The average setup time of the skin-marking guide was 6.72 minutes, and 7.53 minutes for the surface guide.
Conclusion
There was no statistically significant difference between the surface and skin-marking guides regarding final CBCT shift values and no correlation between translational shift values and patient characteristics. We also observed minimal difference in setup time between the two methods. Therefore, the surface guide can be considered an accurate and time-efficient alternative to skin-marking guides.
4.Metastasis prognostic factors and cancer stem cell-related transcription factors associated with metastasis induction in canine metastatic mammary gland tumors

Background:
Canine mammary gland tumor (MGT) is the most common cancer in aged female dogs. Although it's important to identify reliable metastasis or prognostic factors by evaluating related to cell division, adhesion, and cancer stem cell-related transcription factor (TF) in metastasis-induced canine MGT, but there are limited studies.
Objectives:
We aimed to identify metastasis prognostic factors and cancer stem cell-TFs in canine MGTs.
Methods:
Age-matched female dogs diagnosed with MGT only were classified into metastatic and non-metastatic groups by histopathological staining of MGT tissues. The mRNA levels of cancer prognostic metastasis molecular factors (E-cadherin, ICAM-1, PRR14, VEGF, HPRT1, RPL4 and hnRNP H ) and cancer stem cell-related TFs (Oct4, Sox2, and Nanog ) were compared between metastatic and non-metastatic canine MGT tissues using qRT-PCR analysis.
Results:
The mRNA levels of ICAM-1, PRR14, VEGF, hnRNP H, Oct4, Sox2, and Nanog in metastatic MGT group were significantly higher than those in non-metastatic MGT group. However, mRNA level of RPL4 was significantly lower in metastatic MGT group. Loss of E-cadherin and HPRT1 was observed in the metastatic MGT group but it was not significant.
Conclusions
Consistent expression patterns of all metastasis-related factors showing elevation in ICAM-1, PRR14, VEGF, hnRNP H, Oct4, Sox2, and Nanog, but decreases in RPL4 levels occurred in canine MGT tissues, which was associated with metastasis. Thus, these cancer prognostic metastasis factors and TFs of cancer stem cells, except for E-cadherin and HPRT1 , can be used as reliable metastasis factors for canine MGT and therapeutic strategy.

6.Spontaneous Eruption of a Dilacerated Mandibular Central Incisor after Trauma of a Primary Tooth : Two Case Reports

Dilacerations generally involve central incisors; most often maxillary incisors rather than their mandibular counterparts. The clinical features of dilaceration include non-eruption of the responsible tooth or prolonged retention of the deciduous predecessor tooth. In Case 1, the tooth showed a dilaceration at the boundary between the crown and the root, more laterally rather than labiolingually. In Case 2, the dilacerated tooth showed a crown dilaceration with a relatively normal orientation of the dental root. In both cases, no significant space losses for eruption were observed. Moreover, it seems that unlike the maxilla with the palate, the mandibular anterior teeth are limited to show severe displacement.
From these cases, it is suggested that if a mandibular permanent incisor shows a crown dilaceration or lateral dilaceration at the boundary between the crown and the root, there is a relatively high probability of spontaneous eruption of the dilacerated tooth.
7.Comparison of Microleakage and Compressive Strength of Different Base Materials

This study compared the microleakages and compressive strengths of various base materials.
To evaluate microleakages, 50 extracted permanent premolars were prepared. The teeth divided into 5 groups of 10 each according to the base materials. Cavities with a 5.0 mm width, 3.0 mm length, and 3.0 mm depth were formed on the buccal surfaces of the teeth. After filling the cavities with different base materials, a composite resin was used for final restoration. Each specimen was immersed in 2% methylene blue solution and then observed under a stereoscopic microscope (× 30). To evaluate the compressive strength, 5 cylindrical specimens were prepared for each base material. A universal testing machine was used to measure the compressive strength.
The microleakage was highest in the Riva light cureTM group and lowest in the BiodentineTM and Well-RootTM PT groups. For the compressive strengths, in all groups, acceptable strength values for base materials were found. The highest compressive strength was observed in the Fuji II LCTM group and the lowest strength in the Well-RootTM PT group.
