Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease caused by plaque biofilm, is characterized by the irreversible pathological destruction of periodontal supporting tissues, including gums, periodontal membranes, alveolar bone, and cementum, resulting in tooth loosening and dislocation in severe cases. Currently, research on the pathogenesis, early diagnosis, and treatment of periodontitis is limited. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), previously considered “splicing noise”, have gained increasing research attention with the development of high-throughput sequencing technologies and bioinformatics. CircRNAs are non-coding RNAs lacking a 5' cap and 3' poly(A) tail, with a unique covalently closed ring structure, high expression, long half-life, and resistance to nuclease degradation, which can regulate splicing, encode proteins, and act as microRNA and RNA-binding protein sponges. In recent years, circRNAs have been reported to be involved in the occurrence and development of periodontitis, suggesting its potential role as a therapeutic target for periodontitis treatment. In this study, we described the biological function of circRNAs and their role in the development of periodontitis and the regulation of periodontal homeostasis and immune microenvironment. We found that circRNAs affect periodontal homeostasis and immune microenvironment by regulating the apoptosis of periodontal tissue cells (such as periodontal ligament stem cells and gingival fibroblasts) and regulating immune cells or cytokines, respectively. This review article summarizes the latest research progress on the association between circRNAs and periodontitis to provide a scientific basis for the development of novel diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic strategies for periodontitis.

During tumor progression, the mechanical properties of the tumor microenvironment play a pivotal regulatory role. As core mechanical indicators, cellular stiffness and extracellular matrix stiffness profoundly influence tumor development through multiple pathways, including cytoskeletal remodeling, activation of signaling pathways, and metabolic regulation. Studies have demonstrated that the tissue stiffness of various solid tumors is significantly higher than that of corresponding normal tissues, while their cellular stiffness exhibits the opposite trend. This mechanical characteristic is also observed in oral squamous cell carcinoma and exerts crucial regulatory effects during tumor progression. This review systematically summarizes the molecular composition and regulatory mechanisms underlying the stiffness of tumor cells and extracellular matrix (ECM). Mainstream stiffness detection technologies such as atomic force microscopy, microfluidic deformation, and real-time deformability cytometry are outlined, with particular emphasis on their applications and limitations in oncology research. This review comprehensively analyzes how mechanical properties regulate key processes in tumor progression, including growth, proliferation, invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, drug resistance, and immune escape. This review synthesizes biomechanics-based therapeutic strategies, including: ① targeting the regulation of tumor cell stiffness through cytoskeletal modulators and cholesterol-depleting agents to enhance immune responses; ② reducing ECM stiffness by matrix remodeling enzyme inhibitors, ECM component modulators, or receptor antagonists to improve drug delivery efficiency, and combining with immunotherapy or photothermal therapy for enhanced therapeutic effects; ③ enhancing the mechanical adaptability and anti-tumor activity of immune cells through pharmacological or genetic approaches. This review establishes a robust conceptual framework for developing novel anti-tumor therapeutic strategies and provides insights for future clinical management of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Objective This study investigated the regulatory effect of high mobility group protein B1 (HMGB1) in the peripheral blood of patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) on myeloid dendritic cells (mDC) and Th17/regulatory T cells (Treg) balance. Methods The study enrolled 30 newly diagnosed ITP patients and 30 healthy controls.Flow cytometry was used to measure the proportion of mDC, Th17, and Treg cells in the peripheral blood of ITP patients and healthy controls. ELISA was conducted to quantify the serum levels of HMGB1, interleukin 6 (IL-6), IL-23, IL-17, and transforming growth factor β(TGF-β). The mRNA levels of retinoic acid-related orphan receptor γt(RORγt) and forehead box P3(FOXP3) were detected by real-time PCR. The correlation between the abovementioned cells, cytokines, and platelet count was assessed using Pearson linear correlation analysis. Results The proportion of Th17 cells and the expression levels of HMGB1, IL-6, IL-23, IL-17 and the level of RORγt mRNA in the peripheral blood of ITP patients were higher than those in healthy controls. However, the Treg cell proportion and TGF-β level were lower in ITP patients than those in healthy controls. In patients with ITP, the proportion of mDC and the level of FOXP3 mRNA did not show significant changes. The proportion of mDC cells was significantly correlated with the expression of IL-6 and IL-23. Moreover, the expression of HMGB1 showed a significant correlation with the expression of mDC, IL-6, IL-23, RORγt mRNA, and IL-17. Notably, both the proportion of mDC cells and the expression of HMGB1 were negatively correlated with platelet count. Conclusion The high expression of HMGB1 in peripheral blood of ITP patients may induce Th17/Treg imbalance by promoting the maturation of mDC and affecting the secretion of cytokines, thereby potentially playing a role in the immunological mechanism of ITP.

This consensus will introduce the characteristics of fillers used in the surgical cavities of domestic nasal surgery patients based on relevant literature and expert opinions. It will also provide recommendations for the selection of cavity fillers for different nasal diseases, with chronic sinusitis as a representative example.

Objective To investigate the relationship between enlarged perivascular spaces in the hippocampus(H-EPVS)and cognitive function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),and to explore whether the H-EPVS can be used as an imaging marker of cognitive impairment in T2DM.Methods A total of 93 T2DM patients were selected(including 56 patients with cognitive impair-ment and 37 patients with normal cognition).All patients received head MRI scanning and neuropsychological tests.The differences of the H-EPVS counts and various parameters between the two groups were compared.Multiple linear regression was used to evalu-ate the association between H-EPVS and cognitive function.Results Compared with the T2DM patients with normal cognition,the cognitive impairment had significantly higher total H-EPVS counts(P=0.015),and worse performance of global cognitive function,processing speed,immediate memory and delayed recall(P＜0.05).After adjusting for confounding factors by multiple linear regres-sion,total H-EPVS were associated with global cognitive function and immediate memory.Conclusion The H-EPVS are correlated with global cognitive function and memory function in patients with T2DM.The H-EPVS may be used as an imaging marker of cog-nitive impairment in T2DM patients.

Objective This study aimed to explore the relationships between residential greenness and cardiometabolic risk factors among rural adults in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region(Xinjiang)and thus provide a theoretical basis and data support for improving the health of residents in this region. Methods We recruited 9,723 adult rural residents from the 51st Regiment of the Third Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in September 2016.The normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)was used to estimate residential greenness.The generalized linear mixed model(GLMM)was used to examine the association between residential greenness and cardiometabolic risk factors. Results Higher residential greenness was associated with lower cardiometabolic risk factor prevalence.After adjustments were made for age,sex,education,and marital status,for each interquartile range(IQR)increase of NDVI500-m,the risk of hypertension was reduced by 10.3%(OR=0.897,95%CI=0.836-0.962),the risk of obesity by 20.5%(OR=0.795,95%CI=0.695-0.910),the risk of type 2 diabetes by 15.1%(OR=0.849,95%CI=0.740-0.974),and the risk of dyslipidemia by 10.5%(OR=0.895,95%CI=0.825-0.971).Risk factor aggregation was reduced by 20.4%(OR=0.796,95%CI=0.716-0.885)for the same.Stratified analysis showed that NDVI500-m was associated more strongly with hypertension,dyslipidemia,and risk factor aggregation among male participants.The association of NDVI500-m with type 2 diabetes was stronger among participants with a higher education level.PM10 and physical activity mediated 1.9%-9.2%of the associations between NDVI500-m and obesity,dyslipidemia,and risk factor aggregation. Conclusion Higher residential greenness has a protective effect against cardiometabolic risk factors among rural residents in Xinjiang.Increasing the area of green space around residences is an effective measure to reduce the burden of cardiometabolic-related diseases among rural residents in Xinjiang.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by plaque microorganisms, which is the main cause of tooth loss in adults in China. Due to the complexity of periodontitis, their pathogenesis is still unclear. Ferroptosis is a form of iron-dependent regulation of cell death, which affects the function of glutathione peroxidase (GPX4) in the cell through different signaling pathways, thus decreasing antioxidant capacity, accumulation of reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation, eventually causing cell and tissue damage. Recent studies have found that iron overload, oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation are closely related to the occurrence and development of periodontitis. This article reviews the characteristics of ferroptosis and the relationship between ferroptosis and inflammatory diseases, especially periodontitis, to provide new ideas for the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis evaluation of periodontitis. ferroptosis is mainly manifested as the disruption of the body's redox homeostasis, decreased antioxidant capacity, activation of damage related molecular patterns, release of pro-inflammatory mediators, and induction or exacerbation of inflammation. Iron dependent oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation are simultaneously involved in the regulation of ferroptosis and inflammatory diseases. Pathogenic bacteria of periodontitis can induce ferroptosis of periodontal ligament stem cells, thereby activating the release of inflammatory factors such as interleukin-17, tumor necrosis factor alpha, and hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha, exacerbating periodontitis; In addition, inflammatory factors activated by ferroptosis play an important role in alveolar bone homeostasis, and ferroptosis is involved in the process of lipopolysaccharide induced inflammation of gingival fibroblasts. Future research can focus on exploring the molecular mechanisms and therapeutic targets of ferroptosis in periodontitis, providing new strategies for the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease.

ObjectiveTo observe the efficacy and safety of Uyghur medicine Yangxin Dawayimixike Honey Paste （养心达瓦依米西克蜜膏， YDMHP） in the treatment of stable angina pectoris （SAP） of qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome. MethodsA randomized ， double-blind， positive-controlled，multi-center clinical trial was conducted， in which 370 patients with SAP of qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome were randomly divided into treatment group（279 cases）and control group（91cases）at a ratio of 3∶1. The treatment group was orally administered with YDMHP， 3 g each time， and placebo of Xuefu Zhuyu Capsule （血府逐瘀胶囊）， 2.4 g each time， while the control group was treated with Xuefu Zhuyu Capsule， 2.4 g each time， and placebo of YDMHP， 3 g each time， both twice a day for a course of 12 weeks. The primary outcome was the effect of angina pectoris symptom. The secondary outcomes include single angina symptom scores such as number of attacks， duration of attacks， pain intensity and usae of nitroglycerin scores， the total angina symptom score before and after the treatment， the usage of nitroglycerin， the exercise duration in treadmill exercise test （TET） and the Duck treadmill score among patients，the scores of Seattle Angina Questionnaire （SAQ） on five dimensions including physical limitations， anginal stability， anginal frequency， treatment satisfaction， and disease perception， and efficacy of TCM syndrome and of each single TCM symptom after treatment. The safety were evaluated by examine blood routine， urine routine， liver and kidney function， fasting blood sugar， electrocardiogram， adverse events. ResultsThe total effective rate of angina symptom in the treatment group was 71.69% （200/279）， significantly higher than 51.64% （47/91） in the control group （P＜0.01）. The curative and markedly effective rate of TCM syndrome in the treatment group was 53.05% （148/279）， which was significantly higher than 25.27% （23/91） in the control group （P＜0.01）. After treatment， scores of the number as well as duration of angina attacks and pain severity， the total score of angina symptoms， and the usage of nitroglycerin significantly decreased in both groups， and more changes were seen in the treatment group than in the control group； the scores of physical limitations， anginal stability， anginal frequency， treatment satisfaction， and disease perception in both groups significantly increased， and more improvement were shown in the experimental group regarding the anginal stability， anginal frequency and treatment satisfaction （P＜0.05 or P＜0.01）. The effects of chest pain， chest tightness， palpitation， shortness of breath and fatigue in experimental group were significantly higher than those in control group （P＜0.05 or P＜0.01）. There was no significant difference in the exercise duration of treadmill test and Duke score among patients between the two groups either before or after treatment （P＞0.05）. Adverse events occurred in 66 cases （23.66%） of the experimental group and 16 cases （17.58%） of the control group， with no statistical significance between the two groups （P＞0.05）. ConclusionThe Uyghur medicine YDMHP can effectively improve symptoms of angina pectoris， reduce the number， duration， and intensity of attacks， decrease the dosage of nitrogly-cerin and improve the individual TCM symptoms and has good safety in the treatment of SAP patients of qi stagnation and blood stasis.

Objective:To study the application of 3D printing technology in multi-center fenestrated/branched endovascular repair (F/B-EVAR) for endovascular repair of abdominal aortic diseases.Methods:From Feb 2018 to Mar 2023, The clinical and followup data of 316 cases of abdominal aortic lesions undergoing repair with F/B-EVAR at 69 medical centers nationwide using 3D printing technology to guide physician-modified stent graft were retrospectively analyzed.Results:The mean follow-up time of the patients was 23 months (2-60 months), and 24 cases were lost to follow up, the follow-up rate was 92.4% (292/316), the mean postoperative hospitalization time was (8.2±4.9) days. A total of 944 main abdominal branch arteries were reconstructed. Intraoperative reconstruction of 11 branches failed, with a success rate of 98.8% (933/944). Within 30 days after surgery, 8 patients died (2.5%), and 6 patients died during follow-up, a total of 14 patients died (4.4%). There were 11 cases (3.5%) of spinal cord ischemia and no patient suffered from permanent paraplegia. There were 19 patients (6.0%) with postoperative renal function injury. Internal leakage was found in 26 patients, and the rate of internal leakage was 8.2%.Conclusion:3D printing technology can accurately locate the location of branch arteries, simplifing the surgical process, shortening the learning curve , and improving clinical efficacy.

Objective:To develop and validate gas chromatographic methods for the determination of residual benzene in carbomer copolymer,carbomer homopolymer and carbomer interpolymer,to address the issues of the current method in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia in the actual detection process,such as low sensitivity and poor repeatability of benzene detection in the mixed reference solution,and to optimize and improve the current stand-ards for series of carbomer pharmaceutical excipients.Methods:Samples were separated on a column DB-624(30 m ×0.530 mm,3.00 μm)with temperature programming,the inlet temperature of 140 ℃,the detector tem-perature of 250 ℃,and the split ratio of 5∶1.The external standard method was adopted for the quantitative deter-mination of residual benzene.Results:The linearity was great across the range of 0.04-1.00 μg·mL-1(r=0.996 8),the injection precision of benzene was 6.8％(n=6),and the average recovery rate was 96.89％(RSD=8.1％,n=9).Conclusion:The gas chromatographic method established in this research is more specif-ic,with higher accuracy and precision compared to the current method in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.This optimized method is more suitable for the determination of residual benzene content in carbomer copolymer,car-bomer homopolymer and carbomer interpolymer,providing reference and guidance for the quality management and the control of carbomer.
