Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)is clinically characterized by insulin resistance,ovulatory dysfunction and hyperandrogenemia,often accompanied by obesity,type 2 diabetes,and dyslipidemia.This article reviews the recent studies on the intervention of PCOS with herbal medicines,including traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)compound formulas and single active compounds.The results demonstrate that both TCM compound formulas and single active compounds are effective on improving PCOS symptoms,with the advantages of multi-target actions and personalized treatment.TCM compound formulas for PCOS can be categorized into kidney-tonifying formulas(e.g.,Antai Fanglou Decoction,Gui Zhu Yikun Formula,Liuwei Dihuang Pills,Bushen Huayu Formula),phlegm-resolving formulas(e.g.,Cang Fu Daotan Decoction,Erchen Decoction),liver-soothing formulas(e.g.,Xiaoyao San,Shaoyao Gancao Decoction),and blood-activating formulas(e.g.,Jiawei Shaoyao Gancao Decoction,Gexia Zhuyu Decoction,Huayu Xiaozheng Decoction).These compound formulas separately exhibit actions of tonifying kidney essence,soothing liver and relieving depression,and activating blood circulation to resolve stasis,which are aligned with the TCM etiology and pathogenesis of PCOS.Single active compounds from herbal medicine primarily include flavonoids,alkaloids,terpenoids and polyphenols.Extractives from herbal medicines exert therapeutic effects by inhibiting ovarian inflammatory responses and relieveing hyperandrogenemia insulin resistance.Key signaling pathways for the intervention of PCOS with TCM include PI3K/AKT/mTOR,SIRT1/AMPK,TLR4/NF-κB,IRS1/PI3K/GLUT4,RIP1/RIP3/MLKL,HMGB1/RAGE,and Hippo-YAP.The review of recent advances in TCM formulas and single active compounds for the treatment of PCOS along with their underlying mechanisms will provide valuable insights for clinical management and new drug development for PCOS.

Objective:To investigate the characteristics and trends of women who underwent induced abortion in recent years, and to provide more evidences to decrease induced abortion rate.Methods:A retrospective study was conducted on women who underwent induced abortions in the Family Planning Department of Women and Children’s Hospital of Xiamen University from January 2014 to December 2018.Results:Of the 28 529 women with induced abortion, the age was (28.77±5.78) years old. Women aged 25-34 years accounted for 58.1%, 67.0% of women were married, 62.5% had a history of delivery, 24.0% were in their first pregnancies, 30.3% had induced abortion for twice, 21.5% were for three times and more (the maximum frequency of induced abortion was 14). About 16.1％ induced abortion women had a history of cesarean section，and rate showed an increasing trend in the five years (16.2%, 15.0%, 15.9%, 16.6%, 16.9%), but the difference was not statistically significant ( P=0.054). From 2014 to 2018, the age of induced abortion women [(28.05±5.69) years, (28.47±5.62) years, (28.70±5.80) years, (29.03±5.81) years, (29.59±5.82) years, P<0.001] and the percentages of married women （63.2%, 66.8%, 66.9%, 67.2%, 70.9%）, women with two or more children （11.8%, 15.4%, 20.2%, 25.2%, 32.2%） and women undergoing at least a second abortion over 35 years old （21.7%, 22.1%, 23.4%, 26.7%, 29.9%） increased every year (all P<0.001). However, among the induced abortion women, the percentages of unmarried women （36.8%, 33.2%, 33.1%, 32.8%, 29.1%）, women who haven’t bear children （42.9%, 38.4%, 37.8%, 36.3%, 32.4%）, women with the first pregnancy （26.2%, 23.8%, 24.7%, 23.4%, 21.8%） and women under 24 years old （29.3%, 25.3%, 24.7%, 24.1%, 21.5%） decreased during the five years period (all P<0.001). Conclusion:The incidence rate of induced abortion among married women with children is the highest, so special attention should be paid to postpartum women in family planning services, and it is urgent to launch postpartum contraceptive services and promote long-term reversible contraceptive measures.

Objective: To explore the effect of axial flap of adjacent artery perforator with vascular pedicle in repairing scar deformity of face and neck in patients. Methods: From January 2010 to June 2018, 38 patients with cicatricial deformity of face and neck after deep burn were admitted to author′s unit, including 22 males and 16 females, aged 5-56 years. The time of admission was 7 months to 19 years after burn injury. The size of wounds ranged from 7.0 cm×4.0 cm to 20.0 cm×10.0 cm after scar tissue was released. Nineteen patients were treated by upper thoracic internal artery perforator flap with size ranged from 7.0 cm×5.0 cm to 18.0 cm×8.5 cm. Among them, 16 cases were preexpanded with expanders at thorax whose rated capacity ranged from 300 to 500 mL and times of water injection of 1.8 to 3.1, and 3 cases were directly used. Twelve patients were treated by transverse carotid artery perforator flap with size ranging from 7.0 cm×4.5 cm to 11.0 cm×8.5 cm, of which 8 patients were preexpanded and 4 cases were directly used. The rated capacity of expander placed at the supraclavicular region ranged from 200 to 350 mL with times of water injection from 1.5 to 2.0. Seven patients were treated by preexpanded superficial temporal frontal branch artery perforator flap with size of 5.5 cm×3.8 cm to 8.0 cm×5.0 cm. The rated capacity of expanders placed at forehead was 150 to 300 mL with times of water injection of 1.5 to 2.0. Donor sites were directly sutured or reversely repaired by pedicled skin tube plasty. After operation, operation times and treatment time were recorded. The survival condition and complications of flaps and follow-up were observed. Results: The patients each received 1 to 4 operation (s) with treatment time of 5 to 11 months. All flaps survived after operation. Among them, three flaps with perforating branches of internal thoracic artery had slight blood circulation disturbance at the distal end and were healed after conservative dressing change, etc. Pigment changes were observed at the distal end of thoracic internal artery perforator flaps in two patients in the later stage and was resected and repaired in the second stage. The patients were followed up for 5 to 18 months. The appearance and function of operation area were good with high satisfaction of patient. Conclusions The axial flap of adjacent artery perforator with vascular pedicle for repairing scar deformity of face and neck used directly or preexpanded can solve the problem of lack of normal skin around scar deformity without vascular anastomosis during the operation and with better appearance and function after operation. The donor site often can be directly sutured, but many operations often need to be completed for finishing whole treatment.
