The 2024 National Education Work Conference pointed out that at the current juncture of the critical period for achieving the goals and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan,the implementation of the Education Powerhouse Construction Plan Outline should be taken as the main line of work,and building first-class disciplines is an crucial task for a higher education powerhouse.In 2022,forensic medicine was officially listed as a first-level discipline under the medical category,presenting an un-precedented historical opportunity for the development of forensic medicine.The forensic medicine dis-cipline of Southern Medical University comprehensively improves the quality of talent cultivation and facilitates the construction of first-class disciplines as its main direction.It aims to initiate and imple-ment a high-level faculty team building plan featuring"combining recruitment and cultivation,inter-disciplinary integration";make vigorous efforts to establish a first-level doctoral program,refine advan-tageous second-level disciplines and research directions;and establish an innovative research platform from a high starting point with deep integration.The discipline adheres to moral cultivation and the Five Domains of Education simultaneous development,to build a high-quality talent joint training model.Guided by the construction of the national legal system and industry needs,the discipline will enhance social service capabilities.The forensic medicine construction in our university will continue to contribute to the rule of law in China and educational power.

Lyme disease is a natural zoonotic infectious disease transmitted by ticks infected by different genotypes of Borre-lia burgdorferi sensu lato,which was discovered in the 1970s.This pathogen is prevalent primarily in temperate and subtropi-cal areas.Dogs,cats,horses,cattle,deer,and other animals are susceptible,and humans are also susceptible hosts.The main symptoms of Lyme disease in humans are erythema migrans,arthritis,and other neurological symptoms,and the common symptoms in infected animals include joint diseases,coat shedding,fever,laminitis,and lameness.Lyme disease is wide-spread,but diagnosis is difficult,and this disease is easily misdiagnosed and missed.Awareness of Lyme disease must be in-creased to avoid its toll on livestock and the pet industry.Therefore,this article reviews research progress in diagnosis and con-trol technology for animal Lyme disease and Borrelia burgdorferi,to provide a reference for accurate,rapid diagnosis and con-trol of Lyme disease.

Objective:To understand the clinical characteristics of novel coronavirus reinfection and explore the risk factors of novel coronavirus reinfection.Methods:The clinical data of 340 patients with novel coronavirus infection who were admitted to the Fever Clinic of Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University from December 2022 to January 2023 were included. The general characteristics, basic diseases, clinical symptoms, and examination results of the first and second infections in the non repeated infection group, the repeated infection group, and the repeated infection group were compared. Binary logistic multivariate analysis was used to explore the risk factors of novel coronavirus reinfection.Results:In this study, 340 patients with novel coronavirus infection were included, 180 of whom were repeatedly infected. There was no statistically significant difference (all P>0.05) in terms of gender, age, body mass index (BMI), exercise, smoking, daily routine, and underlying disease between the recurrent infection group and the non recurrent infection group. However, the vaccination rate of the recurrent infection group was lower than that of the non recurrent infection group [80.0%(144/180) vs 88.0%(142/169), P<0.05]; In the repeated infection group, 157 cases (87.2%) were accompanied by overall discomfort (including headache, fatigue, muscle and joint pain), which was significantly higher than 122 cases (76.2%) in the non repeated infection group. The proportion of pneumonia occurring during the first infection was higher than that in the non repeated infection group [15.6%(28/180)], and the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). The interval between the first and second infections in the repeated infection group was (166.2±8.3)days. Cough and phlegm were the main clinical manifestations of two infections; The duration of re infection was shorter than that of the first infection [(7.03±2.30)days vs (8.94±3.02)days, t=6.739, P<0.001]; Secondary infections had less incidence of pneumonia [5.0%(9/180) vs 15.6%(28/180), χ 2=10.874, P=0.001]; 153 patients (85.0%) reported milder secondary infections. The results of binary logistic regression showed that cough, expectoration, body discomfort and pneumonia during the first infection were risk factors for repeated infection of novel coronavirus ( OR=2.710, 2.293, 2.808, P<0.05), and vaccination was a protective factor to avoid repeated infection ( OR=0.470, P=0.019). Conclusions:The symptoms of novel coronavirus reinfection are generally mild and the course of disease is relatively short. For vulnerable people, novel coronavirus vaccine should be actively inoculated to strengthen protection.

Purpose::Vibrio vulnificus ( V. Vulnificus) infection is characterized by rapid onset, aggressive progression, and challenging treatment. Bacterial resistance poses a significant challenge for clinical anti-infection treatment and is thus the subject of research. Enhancing host infection tolerance represents a novel infection prevention strategy to improve patient survival. Our team initially identified cytochrome P4501A1 (CYP1A1) as an important target owing to its negative modulation of the body's infection tolerance. This study explored the superior effects of the CYP1A1 inhibitor bergamottin compared to antibiotic combination therapy on the survival of mice infected with multidrug-resistant V. Vulnificus and the protection of their vital organs. Methods::An increasing concentration gradient method was used to induce multidrug-resistant V. Vulnificus development. We established a lethal infection model in C57BL/6J male mice and evaluated the effect of bergamottin on mouse survival. A mild infection model was established in C57BL/6J male mice, and the serum levels of creatinine, urea nitrogen, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to evaluate the effect of bergamottin on liver and kidney function. The morphological changes induced in the presence of bergamottin in mouse organs were evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin staining of liver and kidney tissues. The bacterial growth curve and organ load determination were used to evaluate whether bergamottin has a direct antibacterial effect on multidrug-resistant V. Vulnificus. Quantification of inflammatory factors in serum by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and the expression levels of inflammatory factors in liver and kidney tissues by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction were performed to evaluate the effect of bergamottin on inflammatory factor levels. Western blot analysis of IκBα, phosphorylated IκBα, p65, and phosphorylated p65 protein expression in liver and kidney tissues and in human hepatocellular carcinomas-2 and human kidney-2 cell lines was used to evaluate the effect of bergamottin on the nuclear factor kappa-B signaling pathway. One-way ANOVA and Kaplan-Meier analysis were used for statistical analysis. Results::In mice infected with multidrug-resistant V. Vulnificus, bergamottin prolonged survival ( p = 0.014), reduced the serum creatinine ( p = 0.002), urea nitrogen ( p = 0.030), aspartate aminotransferase ( p = 0.029), and alanine aminotransferase ( p = 0.003) levels, and protected the cellular morphology of liver and kidney tissues. Bergamottin inhibited interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α expression in serum (IL-1β: p = 0.010, IL-6: p = 0.029, TNF-α: p = 0.025) and inhibited the protein expression of the inflammatory factors IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α in liver (IL-1β: p = 0.010, IL-6: p = 0.011, TNF-α: p = 0.037) and kidney (IL-1β: p = 0.016, IL-6: p = 0.011, TNF-α: p = 0.008) tissues. Bergamottin did not affect the proliferation of multidrug-resistant V. Vulnificus or the bacterial load in the mouse peritoneal lavage fluid ( p = 0.225), liver ( p = 0.186), or kidney ( p = 0.637). Conclusion::Bergamottin enhances the tolerance of mice to multidrug-resistant V. Vulnificus infection. This study can serve as a reference and guide the development of novel clinical treatment strategies for V. Vulnificus.

This study aimed to investigate the mechanism by which Shegan Mahuang Decoction(SGMH) and its bitter Chinese herbs(BCHs) regulated the lung-gut axis through the bitter taste receptor 14(TAS2R14)/secretory immunoglobulin A(SIgA)/thymic stromal lymphopoietin(TSLP) to intervene in the epithelial cell barrier of cold asthma rats. Fifty SD rats were randomly divided into the following five groups: normal group, model group, dexamethasone group, SGMH group, and BCHs group. A 10% ovalbumin(OVA) solution was used to sensitize the rats via subcutaneous injection on both sides of the abdomen and groin, combined with 2% OVA atomization and cold(2-4 ℃) stimulation to induce a cold asthma model in rats. The SGMH, BCHs, and dexamethasone groups were given corresponding treatments by gavage and nebulization, while the normal and model groups received normal saline by gavage and nebulization. After the final stimulation, pathological changes in the lung and intestine tissues were observed using hematoxylin-eosin(HE) and periodic acid-Schiff(PAS) staining. Lung function was assessed by measuring the ratio of forced expiratory volume in the first second to forced vital capacity(FEV1/FVC), the ratio of the average flow rate at 25%-75% of forced vital capacity to foned vital capacity(FEV25%-75%/FVC), the peak expiratory flow(PEF), and pulmonary resistance(RL). The levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, and TNF-α in serum, and sIgA in serum, intestinal, and bronchial mucosa were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The expression of TAS2R14 protein in lung tissue was detected by Western blot(WB). The content of short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs) in rat feces was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). The effect of TAS2R14/TSLP on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced inflammation in epithelial cells in the BCHs group was observed, and the expression of TAS2R14 and TSLP in cells was detected by WB. Compared with the normal group, the model group showed reduced water intake, diet, and body weight, increased infiltration of inflammatory cells in the lung and intestinal tissues, goblet cell hyperplasia, significantly decreased FEV1/FVC, FEV25%-75%/FVC, and PEF, and significantly increased RL. Moreover, serum levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, and TNF-α were elevated, and sIgA levels in serum, intestine, and bronchial mucosa were significantly decreased. TAS2R14 expression in lung tissues was inhibited, and the content of acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid in feces was significantly reduced. In the LPS group, TSLP expression increased, and TAS2R14 expression decreased. Compared with the model group, the general condition of rats in the SGMH and BCHs groups improved, with reduced infiltration of inflammatory cells and goblet cell hyperplasia in the lung and intestinal tissues. FEV1/FVC, FEV25%-75%/FVC, and PEF significantly increased, and RL significantly decreased. Serum levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, and TNF-α decreased, while sIgA levels in serum, intestine, and bronchial mucosa significantly increased, and TAS2R14 expression was activated in lung and intestinal tissues. The content of acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid in feces significantly increased. Compared with the model group, the BCHs group and the agonist group showed inhibited TSLP expression and increased TAS2R14 expression. The results showed that both SGMH and BCHs could reduce lung and intestinal inflammatory reactions, improve lung function, and regulate the content of intestinal SCFAs in asthmatic rats. There was no significant difference in TAS2R14 protein expression between the SGMH and BCHs groups, indicating that the clinical efficacy of BCHs may be related to the activation of the bitter receptor TAS2R14 and the regulation of immune inflammatory mediators in lung and intestinal epithelial cells.

Objective: To explore the risk intensity and related influencing factors of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among high-stress rescue workers, and to provide effective tools for the risk assessment of PTSD in military rescue workers. Method: From June to August 2022, cluster sampling was used to select the high-stress rescue personnel of an Army department as the survey subjects. The acute Stress reaction (ASD) scale and PTSD checklist were used to evaluate the risk of PTSD in military rescue personnel. Multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of PTSD. Results: The age of 4 460 subjects was (24.38±4.072) years old, including 4 396 males (98.6%). The positive rate of initial screening for ASD was 2.85% (127/4 460). The positive rate of PTSD was 0.67% (30/4 460). Multivariate logistic regression model analysis showed that female, older age, recent trauma exposure history, passive smoking and alcohol consumption were at higher risk of ASD, the values of OR (95%CI) were 4.183 (1.819-9.618), 6.278 (1.363-28.912), 3.094 (1.500-6.379), 2.059 (1.298-3.267) and 2.607 (1.614-4.211), respectively; Lower education level was associated with lower risk of ASD, OR (95%CI) was 0.593 (0.359-0.978); People who are older, thinner, have a history of mental illness, and drink alcohol were at higher risk for PTSD, the values of OR (95%CI) were 20.144 (2.459-165.043), 10.287 (2.218-47.700), 91.104 (8.592-965.980) and 2.866 (1.144-7.180), respectively. Conclusion: Gender, age, education level, passive smoking, alcohol consumption, past history of mental illness and body mass index may be related to the potential risk of PTSD in rescue workers,passive smoking, alcohol consumption, and weight controlling should be focused on to reduce potential risks of PTSD.

Objective To explore the expression and distribution characteristics of vascular endothelial growth factor-B(VEGF-B) in diencephalon and brainstem of Yak’s brain tissues, and to investigate the associations between its expression and hypoxia adaptation. Methods Five healthy yaks were selected, and the brain tissues were divided and collected according to the gross anatomical structure of the brain, including pituitary, thalamus, hypothalamus, oblongata and pons. The characteristics of expression and location of VEGF-B in different regions of Yak’s brain tissues were detected by Real-time PCR, Western blotting and immunohistochemical techniques. Results The results showed that the highest expression level of VEGF-B mRNA of yak brain tissue was in the pituitary, and the content was significantly higher than that found in other parts of the brain(P<0. 05). Following the expressions were in the hypothalamus, thalamus and medulla oblongata, while the lowest expression level was in pons. The expression level of VEGF-B protein in Yak’s brain tissue was similar to the mRNA expression level except that the thalamus was higher than that of hypothalamus. The result of immunohistochemistry showed that VEGF-B protein-positive substances were mainly distributed in the cytoplasm of various types of cells. Among them, the positive staining of VEGF-B was mainly concentrated in eosinophils of pituitary. The positive staining of VEGF-B was mainly concentrated in pleomorphic cells of thalamus and hypothalamus. The distribution of VEGF-B protein-positive substances were mainly focused in nerve cell body of medulla oblongata and pons. Conclusion VEGF-B protein is expressed in both diencephalon and brainstem of yak, which may be closely related to its functions of anti-apoptosis, "survival factor" and angiogenesis. However, the specific mechanism of its neuroprotective effect on Yak brain under hypoxic environment needs to be further studied. The difference of expression in different regions may be related to the tissue specificity and function in different regions of the brain.

Aim To observe whether the mechanosensitive ion channel Piezo1 was involved in the senescence of atrial fibroblasts by activating β-catenin based on our previous study which found marked increase of Piezo1 mRNA in senescent atrial fibroblasts. Methods Primary mouse atrial fibroblasts (MAFs) were isolated from male C57BL/6 mice (3-4 weeks) by enzyme digestion, and tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) was used to induce the senescence of cells. The ratio of senescent cells was detected by senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-Gal) staining. Objective:To investigate the clinical manifestations of population following COVID-19 by using questionnaires.Methods:COVID-19 among anesthesia workers and the surrounding population was investigated between 11 November 2022 and 31 December 2022 in China.The Tencent electronic questionnaire(ID.11492813) was sent to different WeChat groups of the Association of Anesthesiologists or Society of Anesthesiologists via the WeChat platform of the medical personnel in China. The survey was conducted between January 7 and January 15, 2023. Results:A total of 17 000 questionnaires were issued for this survey, 11 060 valid questionnaires from 31 provinces and autonomous regions were collected all over the country, with a recovery rate of 65.059%.There were 10068 (91.037%) participants diagnosed as having COVID-19, and among of them, 47.606% were male and 52.394% were female. The main post-COVID-19 clinical manifestations included fever (85.777%), cough (83.731%), fatigue (75.338%), parasomnia (64.352%), limb soreness (58.890%), dizziness, headache, tinnitus (38.617%), loss or abnormality of taste (37.763%), and loss or abnormality of smell (30.960%); peripheral neuralgia was usually found within 3 days after positive nucleic acid test or positive antigen test; there were 2 963 cases accompanied with sweating, and among of them, 47.25% were male and 52.75% were female, and 37.80% of these participants continued to sweat after the nucleic acid test or antigen test became negative. There were 1 151 cases with premature heart beats among the study population, and the symptoms aggravated following COVID-19 were found in 34.32% of these patients.Conclusions:In addition to the respiratory system, the central and peripheral nerves of patients are also affected following COVID-19, and the peripheral and central nerve disorders last until several days after negative nucleic acid test or antigen test, suggesting that anesthesiologists should pay more attention to monitoring of various nerve function and impact of surgery and anesthetic drugs on the stress response of the body in such patients.

In this paper, 50 batches of representative traditional Chinese medicine tablets were selected and the disintegration time was examined with the method in Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The disintegration time and disintegration phenomenon were recorded, and the dissolution behaviors of water-soluble and ultraviolet-absorbent components during the disintegration process of tablets were characterized by self-control method. The results revealed that coating type and raw material type influenced the disintegration time of tablets. It was found that only 4% of traditional Chinese medicine tablets had obvious fragmentation during the disintegration process, while 96% of traditional Chinese medicine tablets showed gradual dissolution or dispersion. Furthermore, according to the disintegration speed, disintegration phenomenon, and whether the cumulative dissolution of measured components was > 90% at complete disintegration, a disintegration behavior classification system(DBCS) was created for the regular-release traditional Chinese medicine tablets. As a result, the disintegration behaviors of 50 batches of traditional Chinese medicine tablets were classified into four categories, i.e. ⅠA_2, ⅠB_1, ⅡB_1, and ⅡB_2. traditional Chinese medicine tablets(Class I) with disintegration time ≤ 30 min were defined to be rapid in disintegration, which can be the objective of optimization or improvement of Chinese herbal extract(semi extract) tablets. Different drug release models were used to fit the dissolution curve of traditional Chinese medicine tablets with gradual dissolution or dispersion phenomenon(i.e. Type B tablets). The results showed that the dissolution curves of water-soluble components in the disintegration process conformed to the zero order kinetics and the Ritger-Peppas model. It could be inferred that the disintegration mechanisms of type B tablets were a combination of dissolution controlled and swelling controlled mechanisms. This study contributes to understanding the disintegration behavior of traditional Chinese medicine tablets, and provides a reference for the design and improvement of disintegration performance of traditional Chinese medicine tablets.
