Peyronie’s disease is an acquired condition characterized by penile deformities caused by fibrosis of the penile tunica albuginea, leading to symptoms such as penile pain, erectile dysfunction, and other associated issues. Despite extensive research, the pathophysiology of this condition remains poorly understood, and standardized diagnostic and treatment protocols are lacking. While clinical guidelines from several professional societies exist, they do not consistently account for factors such as patient ethnicity, geography, and socioeconomic status. Thus, the Korean Society for Sexual Medicine and Andrology (KSSMA) aimed to develop recommendations tailored to clinical practice in Korea. These recommendations summarize the latest evidence, including clinical practice guidelines from various international professional societies, and represent the consensus opinion of an expert group within the KSSMA. They encompass all aspects of Peyronie’s disease, including the definition, diagnosis, non-surgical interventions, and surgical treatment options.

Colonoscopy, a widely used procedure for diagnosing and treating colonic diseases, induces transient gastrointestinal symptoms and alterations in the gut microbiota. This review comprehensively examines the evidence on alterations in the gut microbiota following colonoscopy and their possible mechanisms. Factors such as rapid colonic evacuation, increased osmolality, and mucus thinning caused by bowel preparation and exposure to oxygen during the procedure contribute to these alterations. Typically, the alterations revert to the baseline within a short time. However, their long-term implications remain unclear, necessitating further investigation. Split-dose bowel preparation and CO2 insufflation during the procedure result in fewer alterations in the gut microbiota. Probiotic administration immediately after colonoscopy shows promise in reducing alterations and gastrointestinal symptoms. However, the widespread use of probiotics remains controversial due to the transient nature of both the symptoms and gut microbial alterations following a colonoscopy. Probiotics may offer greater benefits to individuals with preexisting gastrointestinal symptoms. Thus, probiotic administration may be a viable option for selected patients.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate current morbidity rates following cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in patients with colorectal cancer and peritoneal metastasis. Methods: A total of 42 patients who underwent CRS and HIPEC for colorectal cancer with peritoneal metastasis at a single tertiary referral center between January 2022 and December 2022 were included. Perioperative outcomes and postoperative complications were prospectively assessed. Results: The mean peritoneal cancer index (PCI) was 16.0. The distribution of PCI scores was as follows: <10, 33.3%; 10– 19, 26.2%; and ≥ 20, 40.5%. Completeness of the cytoreduction (CCR) scores were as follows: 57.1% of patients achieved CCR-0, 16.7% achieved CCR-1, 7.1% achieved CCR-2, and 19.0% achieved CCR-3. The mean operation time was 9.1 hours, and the median hospital stay was 17.0 days. Postoperative complications occurred within 30 days in 47.6% of cases and between 30 and 60 days in 11.9% of cases. Reoperation within 30 days was required in 5 cases, and 1 patient died within 30 days. The most common complications were pleural effusion (5 patients), anastomosis site leakage (3 patients), and pneumonia (3 patients). Patients with higher PCI scores were more likely to experience complications (P = 0.038). Conclusion Although CRS and HIPEC are still associated with high morbidity and mortality compared to other colorectal surgeries, outcomes have improved with increased experience. These results suggest that the procedure is becoming a more acceptable treatment option over time.

The adjusted least-squares means of dietary isoflavone intake according to lifestyle and clinical factors were calculated using generalized linear models. RESULTS: Breast cancer survivors had a higher mean dietary isoflavone intake (23.59 mg/day) than cancer-free women (17.81 mg/day). Major food sources, including tofu, soybeans, and doenjang, contributed to over 70% of the isoflavone intake in both groups. When we estimated dietary isoflavone intake according to lifestyle characteristics, isoflavone intake increased with higher scores of adherence to the American Cancer Society dietary guidelines but decreased with increasing body mass index in both groups. Among cancer-free women, dietary isoflavone intake was higher among those who had never smoked and among dietary supplement users. Among breast cancer survivors, dietary isoflavone intakes did not vary with clinical characteristics, including time since surgery and estrogen receptor status. CONCLUSION Breast cancer survivors were more likely to consume isoflavones than agematched cancer-free women. Dietary isoflavone intake was associated with healthy lifestyle characteristics in women both with and without breast cancer. Further research is needed to understand the role of the higher isoflavone intake among breast cancer survivors compared to cancer-free women on their prognosis.
