Objective To investigate the status of population dynamics and distribution changes of Aedes aegypti in Guangdong Province.Methods Continuous monitoring was conducted from May 2018 to July 2024 in Wushi Town and Qishui Town,Leizhou City,Zhanjiang City,Guangdong Province.Additionally,a survey of the distribution of Ae.aegypti along the Leizhou Peninsula coast was carried out.Results The density of Ae.aegypti in Zhanjiang showed a gradual decline from 2018 to 2024.The last detection of adult Ae.aegypti in Wushi Town was in September 2021,and the last larva was found in October 2023.No Ae.aegypti was detected in Qishui Town during surveys from 2021 to 2024.A survey of 18 coastal villages in the Leizhou Peninsula revealed no detections of Ae.aegypti.Conclusions This study provides a basis for understanding the distribution and population density fluctuations of Ae.aegypti,assessing its invasion risk,and scientifically conducting relevant prevention and control efforts.

Objective: To develop an assessment tool for risky road behavior tendencies among middle school students in western China, as well as to determine the relevant indices and their weights, so as to provide the reference for road safety prevention and control for middle school students in western China. Methods: A Delphi study was employed to construct the assessment tool for risky road behavior tendencies among middle school students in western China. In August 2023, eighteen experts in related fields such as traffic safety, education, and healthcare were invited to achieve Delphi consensus. The final indices were initially selected based on the consulting results,followed by the determination of their individual and combined weights using the analytic hierarchy process. Results: The finalized assessment tool comprised 3 primary indicators, 13 secondary indicators, and 100 tertiary indicators. The positivity coefficient of experts was 100%, accompanied by the authority coefficient 0.90. The mean importance scores for the three primary indicators varied from 4.67 to 4.78, while those for the 13 secondary indicators ranged from 4.22 to 4.89. The Kendall coefficient W was statistically significant at 0.32 ( χ 2=96.83, P <0.05). The weights assigned to the three primary indicators were:ability (0.329 4), opportunity (0.337 3), and motivation (0.333 3). The secondary indicators with the top three highest combined weights were social influence (0.027 4), knowledge (0.027 3), and skills (0.026 7). Conclusions The assessment tool for risky road behavior tendencies among middle school students in western China demonstrates high expert consensus, with balanced weighting of primary and secondary indicators. Expanded use of the assessment tool would provide the data support for intervention work.

Objective To investigate the fluctuations in the population density of Aedes albopictus and changes in the population density of Ae. albopictus in different geographical areas and different breeding habitats in Guangdong Province from 2018 to 2023, so as to provide insights into prevention and control of mosquito-borne infectious diseases in the province. Methods Ae. albopictus surveillance sites were assigned in 1 609 townships (streets) from 121 districts (counties) of 21 cities in Guangdong Province during the period between March and November from 2018 to 2023. The surveillance of the population density of Ae. albopictus was performed once a month in each surveillance site, and once a month in specific settings in cities where dengue were highly prevalent in Guangdong Province from December to February of the next year during the period from 2018 through 2023. Four streets (villages) were selected in each surveillance site according to the geographic orientation, and mosquito ovitraps were assigned in gardens, rooftops or public green belts at residential areas, parks, hospitals and construction sites. All mosquito ovitraps were collected, and the mosquito ovitrap index (MOI) was calculated. The population density of Ae. albopictus was classified into four grades in each surveillance site according to MOI, including no risk, low risk, medium risk and high risk. The risk classification of the Ae. albopictus density was analyzed in each surveillance site each year from 2018 to 2023, and the population density of Ae. albopictus was analyzed at different months and in different geographical areas and breeding habitats. Results A total of 118 241 Ae. albopictus surveillance sites were assigned in 21 cities of Guangdong Province from 2018 to 2023, and there were 68.26% of the surveillance sites with the population density of Ae. albopictus that met the requirements for dengue prevention and control, among which low, medium and high risk surveillance sites accounted for 23.61%, 6.67% and 1.47%. The risk classification of the Ae. albopictus density increased rapidly in Guangdong Province since April to May each year from 2018 to 2023, and then gradually reduced since September to October, with the peak during the period between May and July. The mean MOI was 4.21 at each surveillance site in Guangdong Province during the period from 2018 to 2023, with 4.69, 4.80, 4.38, 3.82, 3.38, and 4.33 from 2018 to 2023, respectively. The MOI was 4.35, 4.43, 3.53 and 3.58 in the Pearl River Delta region, and eastern, western, and northern Guangdong Province, respectively, and was 4.18, 5.44, 4.75, 3.24, 4.27 and 3.70 in residential areas, parks, construction sites, hospitals, waste collection stations, and other breeding habitats, respectively. Conclusions The population density of adult Ae. albopictus peaked in Guangdong Province during the period between May and July from 2018 to 2023, with a high density of Ae. albopictus in the Pearl River Delta region and eastern Guangdong Province. Targeted Ae. albopictus control measures are recommended to be implemented prior to the peak of the Ae. albopictus population density to reduce the development of mosquito-borne infectious diseases.

Objective To study the probability distribution of Mosquito ovitrap Index(MOI)risk of dengue Aedes vector,so as to provide a new method for more scientific and accurate MOI risk assessment.Methods Cubic spline function,cumulative probability distribution and python language programming were used to fit and analyze the MOI surveillance data of Guangzhou from 2016 to 2019 years.Results The probability distribution table and distribution figure of MOI risk assessment in Guangzhou from January to December were developed.From January to December,the MOI critical values were 7.54～60.12 and 5.05～34.10 with a cumulative probability less than 0.01 or 0.05 respectively.The critical value was the lowest in January,followed by December and February.The highest was in June,followed by May and July.From January to December,the probabilities of MOI risk grade of transmission,outbreak and epidemic were 5.07%～66.60%,0.25%～36.19%and 0.00%～16.80%respectively.The lowest risk probability of transmission,outbreak and epidemic occurred in January,followed by February respectively.The highest risk probability values appeared in July,July and June,followed by June,June and May respectively.Conclusion The probability distribution of MOI risk in each month in Guangzhou had significant seasonal growth and decline laws and characteristics,which were worthy of attention in the monitoring,evaluation and control of dengue Aedes vector.It provided a new analysis method for MOI risk assessment fitting based on cubic spline functions and cumulative probability distribution.

Objective:To explore influencing factors of the self-reported brief life quality satisfaction score(Brief-QoL) in patients with acromegaly and understand the persistent low Brief-QoL scores in cases achieving biochemical remission.Methods:This study included 836 acromegaly patients who were hospitalized at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2012 and December 2020. We retrospectively examined how clinical characteristics, biochemical parameters, comorbidities, and symptoms influenced Brief-QoL. Among patients who achieved biochemical remission, differences in clinical symptoms and comorbidities were analyzed between the high and low quality of life groups.Results:Patients with well-controlled biochemical indicators at the last follow-up had generally high Brief-QoL. However, patients with symptoms such as headaches (47.8% in the low-score group vs 14.9% in the high-score group, P<0.001) and joint pain (69.6% in the low-score group vs 19.0% in the high-score group, P<0.001) had low Brief-QoL despite biochemical remission. Receiving combined treatment(52.4% in the low-score group vs 27.5% in the high-score group, P=0.030) and having comorbid diabetes or hyperlipidemia were significant factors leading to decreased quality of life. Conclusion:Brief-QoL is suitable for follow-up of outpatient patients. Early identification of factors affecting quality of life and timely intervention can facilitate the realization of standardized management.

Objective To study the resistance levels of adult Aedes albopictus to commonly used insecticides in Guangdong Province, and to provide the scientific basis for coping with the resistance development of Ae. albopictus and improving the control effectiveness of dengue vector. Methods The resistance of adult Ae. albopictus to common insecticides at different monitoring sites was measured by the diagnostic dose method, and the results of resistance of dengue vector Ae. albopictus in Guangdong Province in 2023 were compared. Results In 2023, a total of 49 monitoring sites across 17 cities were tested for the resistance of adult Aedes albopictus to three pyrethroids (permethrin, cypermethrin, and deltamethrin). Of these, 85.71% were resistant populations, and 14.29% were possible resistant populations. A total of 45 monitoring sites in 17 cities assessed the resistance of adult Aedes albopictus to two types of carbamate insecticides: propoxur and bendiocarb, with 6.67% being resistant populations, 53.33% possibly resistant populations, and 40.00% sensitive populations. Furthermore, the resistance to two organophosphorus drugs, malathion and fenitrothion, was measured at 38 monitoring sites in 7 cities, with 92.11% being resistant populations, 5.26% possibly resistant populations, and 2.63% sensitive populations. Conclusions In the monitoring sites of resistance of adult Ae. albopictus in Guangdong Province in 2023, all adult Ae. albopictus mosquitoes developed resistance to pyrethroids, widespread resistance to organophosphorus insecticides, and less resistance to carbamate insecticides. Mosquito vector control works should focus on environmental control, and mosquito breeding site disposal, with the scientific selection and use of insecticides. In the chemical killing of adult mosquitoes, the use of single-agent pyrethroids and organophosphorus insecticides should be reduced, and strategies such as combining and rotating insecticides should be adopted to delay the development of mosquito resistance and improve control efficiency.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the placement of absorbable collagen membrane increase the stability of alveolar ridge contour after guided bone regeneration (GBR) using buccal punch flap. METHODS: From June 2019 to June 2023, patients who underwent GBR using buccal punch flap simultaneously with a single implant placement in posterior region (from first premolar to second molar) were divided into coverage group, in which particular bone graft was covered by collagen membrane and non-coverage group. Cone beam CT (CBCT) was taken before surgery (T0), immediately after surgery (T1), and 3-7 months after surgery (T2), and the thickness of the buccal bone plate at different levels (0, 2, 4, and 6 mm) below the smooth-rough interface of the implant (BBT-0, -2, -4, -6) was mea-sured after superimposition of CBCT models using Mimics software. RESULTS: A total of 29 patients, including 15 patients in coverage group and 14 patients in non-coverage group, were investigated in this study. At T0, T1, and T2, there was no significant difference in BBT between the two groups (P>0.05). At T1, BBT-0 was (2.50±0.90) mm in the coverage group and (2.97±1.28) mm in the non-coverage group, with corresponding BBT-2 of (3.65±1.08) mm and (3.58±1.26) mm, respectively. At T2, BBT-0 was (1.22±0.55) mm in the coverage group and (1.70±0.97) mm in the non-coverage group, with corresponding BBT-2 of (2.32±0.94) mm and (2.57±1.26) mm, respectively. From T1 to T2, there were no statistically significant differences in the absolute values [(0.47±0.54)-(1.33±0.75) mm] and percentages [(10.04%±24.81%)-(48.43%±18.32%)] of BBT change between the two groups. The thickness of new bone formation in the buccal bone plate from T0 to T2 ranged from (1.27±1.09) mm to (2.75±2.15) mm with no statistical difference between the two groups at all levels. CONCLUSION In the short term, the GBR using buccal punch flap with or without collagen membrane coverage can effectively repair the buccal implant bone defect. But collagen membrane coverage showed no additional benefit on alveolar ridge contour stability compared with non-membrane coverage.

Objective: To explore the impact of health management measures for entry personnel (entry management measures) against COVID-19 on the epidemiological characteristics of imported Dengue fever in Guangdong Province from 2020 to 2022. Methods: Data of imported Dengue fever from January 1, 2016 to August 31, 2022, mosquito density surveillance from 2016 to 2021, and international airline passengers and Dengue fever annual reported cases from 2011 to 2021 in Guangdong were collected. Comparative analysis was conducted to explore changes in the epidemic characteristics of imported Dengue fever before the implementation of entry management measures (from January 1, 2016 to March 20, 2020) and after the implementation (from March 21, 2020 to August 31, 2022). Results: From March 21, 2020, to August 31, 2022, a total of 52 cases of imported Dengue fever cases were reported, with an imported risk intensity of 0.12, which were lower than those before implementation of entry management measures (1 828, 5.29). No significant differences were found in the characteristics of imported cases before and after implementation of entry management measures, including seasonality, sex, age, career, and imported countries (all P>0.05). 59.62% (31/52) of cases were found at the centralized isolation sites and 38.46% (20/52) at the entry ports. However, before implementation of entry management measures, 95.08% (1 738/1 828) of cases were found in hospitals. Among 51 cases who had provided entry dates, 82.35% (42/51) and 98.04% (50/51) of cases were found within seven days and fourteen days after entry, slightly higher than before implementation [(72.69%(362/498) and 97.59% (486/498)]. There was significant difference between the monthly mean values of Aedes mosquito larval density (Bretto index) from 2020 to 2021 and those from 2016 to 2019 (Z=2.83, P=0.005). There is a strong positive correlation between the annual international airline passengers volume in Guangdong from 2011 to 2021 and the annual imported Dengue fever cases (r=0.94, P<0.001), and a positive correlation also existed between the international passenger volume and the annual indigenous Dengue fever cases (r=0.72, P=0.013). Conclusions: In Guangdong, the entry management measures of centralized isolation for fourteen days after entry from abroad had been implemented, and most imported Dengue fever cases were found within fourteen days after entry. The risk of local transmission caused by imported cases has reduced significantly.

Objective:To explore intraoperative assessment of blood supply to the femoral head after femoral neck fracture, and the correlation between the blood supply and postoperative osteonecrosis of the femoral head.Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed of the 63 patients with femoral neck fracture who had been treated at Department of Orthopaedic Trauma and Microsurgery, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University by open reduction and internal fixation with hollow compression screws from April 2016 to March 2021. They were 39 males and 24 females with an age of (44.9±13.6) years. There were 42 cases of Garden type Ⅲ and 21 cases of Garden type Ⅳ. Time from injury to operation was (4.1±2.4) days. After internal fixation, a hole was drilled using a 2.0 mm Kirschner wire at 2.0 cm above the femoral head-neck junction to observe the velocity, color, and characteristics of the blood oozing at the drill hole. The patients were divided into a good oozing group of 51 cases in whom bright red blood oozing was observed within 15 seconds after drilling and a poor oozing group of 12 cases in whom dark red blood oozing was observed beyond 15 seconds after drilling. The incidence of postoperative femoral head necrosis, Harris hip score, and visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain were compared between the 2 groups. Single factor and multi factor analyses were conducted using the Cox regression model to analyze the factors influencing postoperative femoral head necrosis in the patients.Results:The 63 patients were followed up for 24 (18, 36) months. The 2 groups were comparable because there was no significant difference in the preoperative general data between them ( P>0.05). Femoral head necrosis was observed in 3 cases in the good oozing group and in 5 cases in the poor oozing group, showing a significant difference between the 2 groups ( P<0.05). The Harris hip score [90.0 (86.0, 92.0)] and the VAS pain score [1.0 (1.0, 2.0)] at 1 year after surgery in the good oozing group were significantly better than those in the poor oozing group [85.5 (71.3, 88.8) and 2.5 (1.0, 3.8)] ( P<0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that Garden type Ⅳ ( HR=6.784, 95% CI: 1.324 to 35.664, P=0.023) and intraoperative poor blood oozing ( HR=10.744, 95% CI: 2.359 to 51.774, P=0.003) were risk factors for femoral head necrosis after cannulated compression screw fixation of fractures of displaced femoral neck ( P<0.05). Conclusions:The blood supply to the femoral head after femoral neck fracture can be directly assessed by drilling a hole in the femoral head after open reduction and internal fixation. Intraoperative poor blood oozing is a risk factor for the femoral head necrosis after cannulated compression screw fixation of fractures of displaced femoral neck.

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics of hospitalized children infected with the Omicron variant in Kunming after the withdrawal of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) and analyze the risk factors of severe cases. Methods: Clinical data was retrospectively collected from 1 145 children with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron infection who were hospitalized in six tertiary grade A hospitals in Kunming from December 10^th, 2022 to January 9^th, 2023. According to clinical severity, these patients were divided into the general and severe SARS-CoV-2 groups, and their clinical and laboratory data were compared. Between-group comparison was performed using t-test, chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U test. Spearman correlation test and multivariate Logistic regression analysis were used to determine the risk factors of severe illness. Results: A total of 1 145 hospitalized patients were included, of whom 677 were male and 468 female. The age of these patients at visit was 1.7 (0.5, 4.1) years. Specifically, there were 758 patients (66.2%) aged ≤3 years at visit and 387 patients (33.8%) aged >3 years. Of these children, 89 cases (7.8%) had underline diseases and the remaining 1 056 cases (92.2%) had no combined diseases. Additionally, of all the patients, 319 cases (27.9%) were vaccinated with one or two doses of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, 748 cases (65.3%) had acute upper respiratory tract infection (AURTI), and six cases died (0.5%). A total of 1 051 cases (91.8%) were grouped into general SARS-CoV-2 group and 94 cases (8.2%) were grouped into severe SARS-CoV-2 group. Compared with the general cases, the severe cases showed a lower rate of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and younger median age, lower lymphocyte count, as well as proportions of CD8⁺T lymphocyte (36 cases (38.3%) vs. 283 cases (26.9%), 0.5 (2.6, 8.0) vs. 1.6 (0.5, 3.9) years, 1.3 (1.0, 2.7) ×10⁹ vs. 2.7 (1.3,4.4)×10⁹/L, 0.17 (0.12, 0.24) vs. 0.21 (0.15, 0.16), respectively, χ²=4.88, Z=-2.21,-5.03,-2.53, all P<0.05). On the other hand, the length of hospital stay, proportion of underline diseases, ALT, AST, creatine kinase isoenzyme, and troponin T were higher in the severe group compared to those in the general group ((11.6±5.9) vs. (5.3±1.8) d, 41 cases (43.6%) vs. 48 cases (4.6%), 67 (26,120) vs. 20 (15, 32) U/L, 51 (33, 123) vs. 44 (34, 58) U/L、56.9 (23.0, 219.3) vs. 3.6 (1.9, 17.9) U/L, 12.0 (4.9, 56.5) vs. 3.0 (3.0, 7.0) ×10^-3 pg/L,respectively, t=-20.43, χ²=183.52, Z=-9.14,-3.12,-6.38,-3.81, all P<0.05). Multivariate regression analysis indicated that increased leukocyte count (OR=1.88, 95%CI 1.18-2.97, P<0.01), CRP (OR=1.18, 95%CI 1.06-1.31, P<0.01), ferritin (OR=1.01, 95%CI 1.00-1.00, P<0.01), interleukin (IL)-6 (OR=1.05, 95%CI 1.01-1.08, P=0.012), D-dimer (OR=2.56, 95%CI 1.44-4.56, P<0.01) and decreased CD4⁺T lymphocyte (OR=0.84, 95%CI 0.73-0.98, P=0.030) were independently associated with the risk of severe SARS-CoV-2 in hospitalized children with Omicron infection. Conclusions: After the withdrawal of NPI, the pediatric inpatients with Omicron infection in Kunming were predominantly children younger than 3 years of age, and mainly manifested as AURTI with relatively low rate of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection and mortality. Elevated leukocyte counts, CRP, ferritin, IL-6, D-dimer, and decreased CD4⁺T lymphocytes are significant risk factors for developing severe SARS-CoV-2 infection.
