Wnt5a is a secreted Wnt ligand that plays a critical role in cellular pathways and inflammatory diseases. The WNT5A gene encodes two protein isoforms, Wnt5a-long and Wnt5a-short, which differ based on different promoter methylation and have distinct functions. However, the mechanisms of the promoter methylation are unclear. Depending on the extent of promoter methylation, Wnt5a exerts both anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory effects in inflammatory diseases, which may be involved in different Wnt5a isoforms. Therefore, the Wnt5a isoforms may be potential diagnostic markers for inflammatory diseases and the mechanisms of the WNT5A gene promoter methylation need to be further investigated.

Objective:To explore the effect of modified pancreaticojejun-ostomy on incidence of severe pancreatic fistula after pancreato-duodenecto my.Methods:The clinical data of 64 patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy with application of duct-to-mucoca pancreaticcojejunostomy were analyzed retrospectively.Interrupted suture technique and modified technique were performed in 31 and 33 patients, respectively.Postoperative complications, data during and after pan-creatoduodenectomy between two groups were compared. Results:There were no significant differences in intraoperative blood loss, operating time, postoperative morbidity of gastrointestinal, intraabdominal hemorrhage, delayed gastric emptying, and intraabdominal abscess(P>0.05).Although there was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative pancreatic fistula (P>0.05),the grades B/C postoperative pancreatic fistula in modified parachute suture group was significantly less than in interrupted suture group (P<0.05).Conclusion:Modified pancreaticojejunostomy technique in pancreatoduodenectomy can reduce the incidence of severe postoperativepancreatic fistula.

Polysaccharides from numerous traditional Chinese medicines have been proven as the bioactive ingredients and are hence used as the quality control markers. However, the assessment criteria always show a poor specificity, due to the lack of systematic comparison among the analogous herbs. In the present study, two similar materials, namely sea-tangle and sargassum, were selected as the model herbs to develop more specific methods for quality control. Two well-established methods, determination of the total polysaccharides content and monosaccharides composition analysis, were both employed. Based upon the quantitative results, the evaluation criteria of the polysaccharides contents of not less than 2.0% and 1.7% were proposed for sea-tangle and sargassum, respectively. Nine identical monosaccharide derivatives appeared on the HPLC chromatograms of the hydrolysis and derivatized solutions of the two drugs. Principal component analysis and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis using the peak areas of monosaccharides derivatives as the variables were performed, and the results indicated that mannuronic acid and xylose with the opposite concentrations in the two drugs were the differential components. A discriminative criterion using the peak area ratio of these two monosaccharides derivatives was proposed for the qualitative identification. In conclusion, a more specific and quantitative quality control method was developed for sea-tangle and sargassum.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the occupational exposure levels of dust in new suspension preheated dry process (NSP) cement production line and put forward rectification measures for dust-exposed posts, and to provide ideas for the modern cement production enterprises in dust control and occupational health management.
METHODSOccupational health field investigation combined with field test were used to measure the time-weighted average concentration (C(TWA)) of the dust in the workplace. Rectification measures were taken for the dust-exposed posts with unqualified dust concentration, and the protective effects of dustproof facilities in the rectified workplace were evaluated.
RESULTSThe field investigation revealed incompletely closed dustproof facilities, improperly set dust hoods, excess of dust leakage points, and other problems in the dust-exposed posts of an NSP cement production line before rectification, and the dustproof facilities could hardly exert dust removal effect. The field test showed that the vast majority of dust-exposed posts had the dust concentrations exceeding the occupational exposure limits (OELs), with a qualified rate as low as 31.8%. A series of rectification measures were taken for these posts. After the rectification, the dust-exposed posts demonstrated dramatically dropped C(TWA), and the qualified rate of dust concentration in the dust-exposed posts rose to 90.9%.
CONCLUSIONThe dust hazards in NSP cement production line cannot be ignored. Taking appropriate protective measures are critical for curbing dust hazards in modern cement production.

Objective To establish animal models with anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve and evaluate the safety of anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve at molecular level. Methods Location of the ulnar nerve of elbow in 5 rats were found similar to human being by anatomy.Twenty healthy adult SD rats, weighting about 250 g,were performed the anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve in the right forelimbs and the left forelimbs was considered as control group. The bilateral flexor carpi ulnaris muscles were weighed and the slice of cervical spinal cord(C_6-T_1)level were prepared 1 month after the operation.Nissl staining,NADPH-d histochemical staining,IB4 staining and ChAT-immunohistochemical staining were employed to observe the spinal cord(C_6-T_1)level at molecular level;electron microscope was used to observe the ultrastructure of ChAT-positive neurons.Statistical analysis was paired T test. Results The flexor carpi ulnaris muscles in the model group(92.3±9.13mg)and control group(93.2±7.29 mg)were not significantly different(P>0.05).After anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve in rats,no significant differences in cell number and morphology in the cervical spinal cord(C_6-T_1)were found between the model group and the control group(P>0.05).No changes between the 2 groups were noted in the fine structure of anterior horn motor neurons and the expression of nenrotransmitters(P>0.05).Conclusion Anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve can be safely done in the animal models(rats).
