1.Valuing the role of visual environment defocus characteristics in myopia prevention and control for children and adolescents

Abstract
Myopia is a complex disease influenced by multiple factors, and its prevention and control require a thorough identification and monitoring of its risk factors. The paper examines the defocus characteristics of the visual environment and their association with myopia among children and adolescents, and further describes their role in the prevention and control of myopia, as well as analyses the limitations of the current study and proposes directions for further research. Finally, the paper calls attention to the etiological significance of the defocus characteristics in the visual environment during the development of myopia among children and adolescents, which could provide a scientific basis for optimizing the learning environment and designing other measures to promote myopia prevention and control among children and adolescents.
2.Association between sleep quality and dry eye symptoms among adolescents

Objective:
To explore the association between sleep quality and dry eye symptoms in adolescents,so as to provide the evidence for reducing the prevalence of dry eye symptoms.
Methods:
The study population was adolescents aged 12-24 years from the Psychology and Behavior Investigation of Chinese Residents (PBICR) survey, which was conducted from 20 June to 31 August 2022. A stratified random sampling and quota sampling method was used to select 6 456 adolescents within mainland China. The Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) and Brief version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (B-PSQI) were used to assess dry eye symptoms and sleep quality. Multiple Logistic regression model was used to explore the relationship between sleep quality and dry eye symptoms in adolescents. The influence of gender on the association was explored by using interaction terms.
Results:
A total of 2 815 adolescents reported having dry eye symptoms, with a prevalence of 43.6%. Logistic regression analysis results showed an increased risk of exacerbation of dry eye symptoms in adolescents with poor sleep quality. The OR (95% CI ) for mild, moderate, and severe dry eye symptoms groups were 1.39(1.16-1.67), 1.52(1.28-1.81), and 2.35(2.02-2.72), respectively, compared with the ocularly normal group ( P <0.05). There was a significant interaction between sleep quality and gender on dry eye symptoms in adolescents ( P <0.01).
Conclusions
Sleep quality is associated with dry eye symptoms in adolescents, and those with poor sleep quality have a higher risk of dry eye symptoms. The effect of sleep quality on dry eye symptoms is greater in boys.
3.Expression of profilin 1 and immunocyte infiltration in diabetic nephropa-thy mice

AIM:The objective of this study is to examine the expression of profilin 1(PFN1)in mice with di-abetic nephropathy and determine its association with immune cell infiltration.METHODS:This study presents an analy-sis of PFN1 expression and immune cell infiltration in patients with diabetic nephropathy,utilizing transcriptome expres-sion data from kidney tissue microarray.Additionally,the findings were validated in a diabetic nephropathy mouse model.Sixteen C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned into two groups,namely the normal group and the model group,in an equal manner.The model group underwent the establishment of the diabetic nephropathy model through intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin.Subsequently,the expression levels of CD11b,F4/80,CC chemokine receptor 4(CCR4),interleukin-1 receptor type I(IL-1R1),B-cell lymphoma-2(Bcl-2),Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax)and caspase-3 in kidney tissue were assessed upon successful establishment of the diabetic nephropathy model.Furthermore,the overexpression of PFN1 was observed in a cellular model of diabetic nephropathy,and the protein expression levels of monocyte chemotactic pro-tein-1(MCP-1)and caspase-3 were assessed.RESULTS:The expression of PFN1 was found to be significantly in-creased in the GSE30122 dataset of transcriptome expression in kidney tissues affected by diabetic nephropathy(P<0.01).This increase in PFN1 expression was found to be correlated with the presence of macrophages and T cells.Fur-thermore,the renal tissue of the diabetic nephropathy model group exhibited significant pathological changes.In this mod-el group,the expression levels of PFN1,CD11b,F4/80,CCR4,IL-1R1,Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3 were all significant-ly increased(P<0.01).Overexpression of PFN1 could enhance the expression of MCP-1 and caspase-3 proteins.CON-CLUSION:Macrophages and Th17 cells were identified within the renal tissue of mice with diabetic nephropathy,con-comitant with an up-regulation in the expression of PFN1.This up-regulation was observed to facilitate the induction of apoptosis in the context of diabetic nephropathy.
4.Study of prefrontal cortex activation characteristics of patients with psychiatric disorders in verbal fluency task using functional near-infrared spectroscopy

BackgroundFunctional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a new generation of imaging tool that can be used to assist the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders. However, whether the patterns of prefrontal cortex activation observed by fNIRS are specific for different psychiatric disorders remains to be explored. ObjectiveTo investigate the characteristics of prefrontal cortex activation in patients with depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia in verbal fluency task (VFT) using fNIRS. MethodsFrom September to December 2021, 39 patients with schizophrenia, 205 patients with depressive disorder, 212 patients with anxiety disorder and 77 patients with bipolar disorder meeting the diagnostic criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5) were recruited in the outpatient and inpatient department of West China Hospital, Sichuan University. fNIRS was used to monitor the prefrontal cortex hemodynamic changes of patients under VFT, and the clinical symptoms of patients were assessed by Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) and Hypomania Checklist-32 items(HCL-32). Differences in mean oxyhemoglobin (HbO2) concentration and the initial slope from 2 to 7 second during VFT were compared among patients with different diseases, and the correlation between mean HbO2 concentration/initial slope and clinical symptoms was analyzed by partial correlation analysis. ResultsThe concentration of HbO2 in channel 4 (Z=2.828, P=0.028) and channel 6 (Z=2.912, P=0.022) in patients with depression were significantly higher than those in patients with schizophrenia. Patients with anxiety had significantly higher changes in mean HbO2 concentration in channel 4 (Z=3.154, P=0.010), channel 5 (Z=3.021, P=0.015), channel 6 (Z=2.980, P=0.017) and of all channels (Z=2.881, P=0.024) than those of schizophrenia patients. There was a statistically significant difference in the initial slope of channel 3 between patients with depressive disorder and those with bipolar disorder (Z=2.691, P=0.039). Among patients with bipolar disorder, the anger-hostility scores of SCL-90 were negatively correlated with the mean HbO2 concentration changes in channel 4 (r=-0.505, P=0.004), channel 6 (r=-0.390, P=0.004), channel 15 (r=-0.546, P=0.002), channel 16 (r=-0.550, P=0.002) and the mean HbO2 concentration changes of all channels (r=-0.491, P=0.006). ConclusionPatients with schizophrenia had lower activation in frontopolar and orbitofrontal region than patients with depression and anxiety disorder, and the initial slope of the right frontopolar, inferior frontal and orbitofrontal region in patients with depression is higher than patients with bipolar disorder. In addition, patients with bipolar disorder had less activation in the frontopolar and orbitofrontal lobe, the insular cover of Broca's area and the upper outer frontal cortex, and were more irritable and hostile. 5.Research hotspots and trend analysis of myopia in children and adolescents based on Chinese databases

Objective:
To analyze research hot spots and trends on myopia in children and adolescents in China, and to provide a reference for the future development of this research field.
Methods:
Using CiteSpace software, 725 eligible Chinese documents published over a 22 year period were sourced from CNKI, VIP and Wanfang Chinese databases, were analyzed during 2000-2021. The data were visualized by a keyword co occurrence map, and clustering, as well as burst and author cooperative networks.
Results:
The research field of myopia in children and adolescents in China had undergone three stages:an initial formation period, development period and rapid growth period, and it was expected that the annual number of papers will maintain an increasing trend in the future. "Myopia" "adolescents" "children" and "students" were the most frequent keywords(667, 535, 288, 47). The keyword burst "adolescents" started the earliest, and "students" had the largest burst strength and duration. Zhang Ning, Tang Wenting, Tao Fangbiao, Yang Xiao and others have made important contributions to this research field.
Conclusion
In recent years, the research focus in this field has gradually shifted toward the influencing factors, as well as prevention and treatment measures of child and adolescent myopia. The trend of myopia in young children and adolescents is obvious. In the future, research on the prevention, control and treatment of myopia in children and adolescents will become a hot spot.

Abstract
The incidence of myopia in children and adolescents has increased in recent years, with an earlier onset trend. During the same time, sleep problems are prevalent in children and adolescents, including insufficient sleep duration and delayed sleep timing. Sleep, as a cyclical life activity influenced by the circadian rhythm, plays an important role in eye growth and refractive development. This review examines the associations between sleep, circadian rhythm, and occurrence of myopia in children and adolescents across human and animal studies, and discusses the underlying biological processes, so as to offer scientific justification for the prevention of myopia in children and adolescents.
7.Adverse reactions of linezolid in the treatment of multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis

Objective:To analyze the adverse reactions of patients with multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis treated with linezolid, and to provide reference for clinical rational use of drugs.Methods:A total of 189 patients with multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis who were admitted to Hunan Chest Hospital between June 2019 and June 2020 were retrospectively included, and were divided into the linezolid group and the control group. The control group was given a standardized anti-tuberculosis treatment without linezolid, and the linezolid group was given linezolid in addition to standardized regimens. The occurrences of hematological toxicity, peripheral neuritis, optic neuritis and other adverse reactions in the two groups after anti-tuberculosis treatment were recorded. The risk factors for adverse reactions of linezolid were analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using independent samples t test and chi-square test, and logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors for adverse reactions of linezolid. Results:A total of 189 patients with MDR-TB were included in this study, including 108 in the linezolid group and 81 in the control group. There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics between the linezolid and control groups. The frequencies of leukopenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, peripheral neuritis and optic neuritis in the linezolid group were 20.4%(22/108), 47.2%(51/108), 21.3%(23/108), 20.4%(22/108) and 13.9%(15/108), respectively, which were all significantly higher than those in the control group (8.6%(7/81), 27.2%(22/81), 9.9%(8/81), 1.2%(1/81) and 4.9%(4/81), respectively), and the differences were all statistically significant ( χ2=4.90, 7.86, 4.40, 15.86 and 4.10, respectively, all P<0.050). Patients older than 45 years of age was independent risk factor for leukopenia (odds ratio ( OR)=3.08, 95% confidence interval ( CI) 1.03 to 9.25, P<0.050) and thrombocytopenia ( OR=2.41, 95% CI 1.09 to 5.35, P<0.050) after linezolid administration. The higher value of white blood cell at baseline ( OR=0.48, 95% CI 0.30 to 0.76, P=0.002) was an independent protective factor for leukopenia associated with linezolid. Conclusions:Pancytopenia, peripheral neuritis and optic neuritis are prone to appear when linezolid is used to treat patients with multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. In clinical practice, closely monitoring the adverse reactions during the use of linezolid for anti-tuberculosis treatment is needed.
8.Interaction of smoking and being bullied on suicidal behaviors: a school-based cross-sectional survey in China.

BACKGROUND:
Suicidal behaviors are seriously social issues among adolescents in the world. Exposed to smoking and being bullied are risk factors of suicidal behaviors. The present study was aimed to examine the interaction of smoking and being bullied on suicidal behaviors among Chinese adolescents.
METHODS:
A total of 18,900 students were involved in the questionnaire study, in four cities of China from November 2017 to January 2018. Suicidal behaviors, smoking, and being bullied were measured by self-reported validated instruments. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were used to analyze the associations of suicidal ideation (SI)/suicidal plan (SP)/suicidal attempt (SA), smoking, and being bullied.
RESULTS:
The prevalence of smoking, being bullied, SI/SP/SA, were 3.1%, 20.6%, 26.4%, 13.2%, and 5.2% respectively. Interaction analysis indicated that being bullied was associated with a greater increase in the likelihood of suicidal behaviors for adolescents with smoking than for those without smoking.
CONCLUSIONS
These finding suggest that smoking exacerbates the association between being bullied and suicidal behaviors. Future research should explore how and why smoking appears to more bully-victims than for those without smoking and how to mitigate it.

9.Association of health literacy and drinking behaviors among middle school students in six provinces of China

Objective:
To explore the association between health literacy and drinking behaviors among middle school students in six provinces of China, and to provide scientific basis for the prevention and intervention of drinking behaviors.
Methods:
From November 2015 to January 2016, 22 628 students were enrolled from Ulanqab, Shenyang, Xinxiang, Bengbu, Chongqing and Yangjiang by multistage stratified cluster sampling method. And a questionnaire survey was conducted among them to collect demographic information, health literacy and drinking behaviors. Rates on drinking behaviors were compared in students with specific characteristics. Multiple Logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine the association between health literacy and drinking behaviors.
Results:
The proportion of ever drinking, current drinking, binge drinking, drunkenness was 60.0%(13 580), 16.8%(3 799), 5.9%(1 344) and 9.9%(2 250), respectively. After adjusting for gender, grade, family address, siblings, accommodation type, parental educational level, and self reported family income, compared to the high level health literacy, the low level health literacy was significantly associated with ever drinking (OR=1.76, 95%CI=1.62-1.91), current drinking(OR=1.37, 95%CI=1.23-1.52), binge drinking (OR=1.39, 95%CI=1.18-1.63), and drunkenness(OR=1.68, 95%CI=1.47-1.92), respectively(P<0.01).
Conclusion
Health literacy of middle school students was related to drinking behaviors. The occurrence of health risk behaviors such as drinking can be prevented and reduced by improving students health literacy level.
