1.Increased ruminoreticular temperature after simultaneous lumpy skin disease and foot-and-mouth disease vaccination in Hanwoo (Bos taurus coreanae) cows

Objective:
To evaluate ruminoreticular temperature and body activity after vaccination, stratified by pregnancy status.
Methods:
This prospective observational cohort study investigated ruminoreticular temperature and body activity in Hanwoo cows after experimental administration of FMD and LSD vaccines. Sixty-three Hanwoo cows (pregnant n = 23 [100–175 days], nonpregnant n = 40) were monitored using a rumen-insertable biosensor that records ruminoreticular temperature and activity every 10 min. Groups received FMD, LSD, simultaneous FMD/LSD, or saline (control). Outcomes were analyzed using analysis of covariance with age and parity as covariates.
Results:
In pregnant cows, simultaneous FMD/LSD vaccination increased ruminoreticular temperature at day 1 and returned to baseline by day 3; single-vaccine groups showed more prolonged elevations. In nonpregnant cows, simultaneous vaccination increased temperature at day 1, normalizing by day 3–4. Body activity did not differ among pregnant groups;in nonpregnant cows, the simultaneous group showed lower activity than single-vaccine groups on some days.
Conclusions
and Relevance: In pregnant Hanwoo cows, post-vaccination temperature increase may enhance the risk of abortion, stillbirth, and premature birth, but this cannot be concluded to be the effect of vaccination. Since vaccination is the sole prevention for infectious diseases, it is unavoidable. Therefore, further research on reproduction related side effects after simultaneous vaccination are needed, and the findings of this study may provide valuable data to support such investigations.
2.Segmentation-Based Landmark Localization in Cerebral Magnetic Resonance Angiography Using Landmark Subsets

Purpose:
The accurate localization of bifurcation points in the brain near the circle of Willis is essential for labeling cerebral arteries and detecting potential aneurysms. Studies on the development of segmentation-based landmark localization methods for cerebral angiography are lacking. This study aimed to develop and validate a method for localizing anatomical landmarks using a three-dimensional (3D) encoder-decoder deep convolutional neural network architecture.
Materials and Methods:
Time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) images of 224 subjects obtained from publicly available datasets were used. Ten anatomical landmark points were annotated, and four different landmark subset configurations were trained and validated. For each configuration, 3D U-Net-based models were developed using the MRA images and their corresponding annotated landmarks. The deep learning prediction results were evaluated in terms of landmark localization errors.
Results:
Among the four configurations, the configuration with five landmark subsets produced the smallest landmark localization errors in the test dataset. Post-processing of the U-Net-predicted segmentation masks further reduced the mean localization errors across all landmark points for the configuration with five subsets.
Conclusion
The proposed landmark localization method effectively identified major anatomical landmarks around the circle of Willis and showed the potential to automate segmental analyses of intracranial arterial tortuosity.
3.Effects of Intravenous Nefopam on Pain Relief in Patients with Acute Postoperative Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Background:
Although intravenous nefopam has been used for opioid-sparing strategy and pain relief, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have shown inconsistent findings.
Methods:
We searched core databases, PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane library for RCTs on this research question in December 2022. Standardized mean difference (SMD) and weighted mean difference (WMD) were calculated using a random-effects meta-analysis.
Results:
Of 708 studies identified from the databases, a total of 17 RCTs (n=1,173 patients) that met the inclusion criteria were included in the final meta-analysis. Overall, the consumption of cumulative opioid analgesics was significantly lower in the nefopam group than the control group, on arrival in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU) (SMD, −0.70; 95% confidence interval [CI], −1.01 to −0.39; I2= 55.1%; n=7), at 24 hours (SMD, −0.65; 95% CI, −1.09 to −0.20; I2=87.4%; n=9), and 48 hours (SMD, −0.82; 95% CI, −1.40 to −0.24; I2=85.6%; n=6) after surgery. It also showed a significant lower pain score, on arrival in the PACU (WMD, −0.80; 95% CI, −1.27 to −0.32; I2=69.6%; n=7) and 24 hours (WMD, −0.48; 95% CI, −0.79 to −0.16; I2=0.0%, n=5). However, publication bias was observed (asymmetrical funnel plot and P for bias=0.005).
Conclusions
Intravenous nefopam showed an opioid-sparing effect and pain relief in the management of patients with acute postoperative pain.

Purpose:
To investigate the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms/benign prostatic hyperplasia in a Korean population.
Materials and Methods:
The Korean Prostate & Voiding Health Association provided free prostate-related community health care and conducted surveys in all regions of Korea from 2001 to 2022 with the cooperation of local government public health centers. A total of 72,068 males older than 50 were surveyed and analyzed. History taking, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), transrectal ultrasonography, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing, uroflowmetry, and urine volume testing were performed.
Results:
The mean prostate volumes in males in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s or above were 24.7 g, 27.7 g, 31 g, and 33.7 g, respectively. The proportion of males with high PSA greater than 3 ng/mL was 3.8% among males in their 50s, 7.7% among males in their 60s, 13.1% among males in their 70s, and 17.9% among males 80 years of age or older. The mean IPSS total scores in males in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s or above were 10.7, 12.7, 14.5, and 16, respectively. Severe symptoms were reported by 27.3% of males, whereas 51.7% reported moderate symptoms. The mean Qmax in males in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s or above were 20 mL/s, 17.4 mL/s, 15.4 mL/s, and 13.8 mL/s, respectively.
Conclusions
In this population-based study, mean prostate volume, IPSS, PSA, and Qmax were 30.6±15.1 g, 14.8±8.2, 1.9±4.7 ng/mL, and 15.6±6.5 mL/s, respectively. Aging was significantly associated with increased prostate volume, PSA levels, and IPSS scores, and with decreased Qmax and urine volume.
5.Factors Affecting Quality of Life and Satisfaction in Patients with Arthritis after Change to a Fixed-Dose Naproxen/Esomeprazole Combination Drug

BACKGROUND:
In drug therapy for patients with arthritis, a naproxen/esomeprazole combination drug may be a tolerable choice because it can minimize gastrointestinal and cardiovascular adverse effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in quality of life (QOL), medication adherence, and satisfaction after switch from the existing drug to the combination drug. In addition, we analyzed the correlation between the above-mentioned variables and the stratified demographic and medical data of the patients.
METHODS:
A prospective, noninterventional, observational study was conducted in 30 hospitals between May 2014 and July 2016. In total, 2,308 patients with osteoarthritis, 99 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, and 76 patients with ankylosing spondylitis were enrolled. Demographic information (age, sex, body mass index [BMI], alcohol consumption, and smoking) and medical information (type of arthritis, duration of disease, and comorbidities) were collected via a self-administered questionnaire. Patients were observed for more than three months after switching to the combination drug. Data on the QOL (EuroQoL 5-Dimension questionnaire [EQ-5D questionnaire]), medication adherence (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale [MMAS]), and satisfaction were collected at the first and last visits.
RESULTS:
A total of 2,483 patients enrolled at 30 hospitals completed the questionnaire. After the switch to the combination drug, the mean EQ-5D score improved from 0.72 ± 0.17 to 0.79 ± 0.14 (p < 0.001), and significant improvement was associated with female sex (p = 0.016), shorter disease duration (p < 0.001), and absence of comorbidities (p < 0.001). The mean MMAS score was 6.38 ± 1.77, indicating medium adherence. Satisfaction was significantly higher in female patients (p < 0.001), in patients with a shorter disease duration (p < 0.001), osteoarthritis (p = 0.003), and no comorbidities (p < 0.001). Serious drug-related adverse effects did not occur.
CONCLUSIONS
The overall QOL was improved with medium adherence after the switch to the combination drug. On the basis of the analysis of stratified data, sex, age, drinking, smoking, disease duration, comorbidities, and BMI might be associated with QOL, satisfaction, and adherence.
6.Usefulness of Additional LISS/Coombs Card Test with Enzyme-Treated Red Cells in Detecting Anti-Kidd Antibodies Not Detectable by NaCl/Enzyme Card Test Alone.

BACKGROUND: Detection of anti-Kidd antibody is important because of its clinical significance. If detection is difficult due to weak serological reactivity or dosage effect, use of an enzyme method could be helpful. However, despite use of an enzyme method, we still observed weak reactivity of anti-Kidd antibody. METHODS: All identified anti-Kidd antibody cases from Jan 2012 to Aug 2015 in Asan Medical Center were reviewed. Antibody identification test was performed using the column agglutination technique using Bio-Rad ID-DiaPanel with LISS/Coombs card, Bio-Rad ID-DiaPanel-P with NaCl/Enzyme card, and ID-DiaPanel-P with LISS/Coombs card. The test results were compared. RESULTS: Sixty cases of anti-JK(a) or anti-Jk(b) were detected and tested by enzyme method. Among them, 34 (56.6%) cases showed strengthened reactivity using the ID-DiaPanel-P with NaCl/Enzyme card method. However, 26 (43.4%) cases showed weakened reactivity. Of these, 13 cases that could be tested by an additional method using ID-DiaPanel-P with LISS/Coombs card containing anti-IgG and anti-C3d showed successfully strengthened reactivity. CONCLUSION: The reactivity of anti-Kidd antibodies that was not strengthened using ID-DiaPanel-P with NaCl/Enzyme card method could be successfully strengthened by use of the ID-DiaPanel-P with LISS/Coombs card.
