Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) resources are the essential material foundation for the development of TCM. The national survey of TCM resources serves as a periodic summary of these resources, ensuring the continuity, prosperity, and development of TCM in China. Since 1949, four national surveys of TCM resources have been conducted. The fourth survey incorporated an investigation into traditional knowledge related to TCM resources, including the traditional medicinal knowledge of Chinese ethnic minorities, with the goal of systematically exploring, preserving, and inheriting this knowledge. This manuscript provides an overview of the basic findings from the first three national surveys of TCM resources, while also clarifying the concepts, categories, forms, carriers, and acquisition pathways of traditional knowledge related to TCM resources. A preliminary summary of the findings from traditional knowledge investigations reported in current literature is also presented. Based on the fourth survey, this manuscript emphasizes the urgency of developing public medical knowledge through empirically-based investigations, the excavation, and compilation of traditional knowledge. It also outlines the potential for conducting "precise" investigations based on first-hand data obtained from the survey, as well as facilitating the discovery and evaluation of new medicines using traditional knowledge related to ethnic minority medicinal practices. This manuscript is expected to provide valuable insights for promoting the health and industrial development of ethnic minority populations in the post-"survey" phase.

This study explores the basic characteristics and potential functions of the terpene synthase(TPS) gene family members in Lonicera japonica. The L. japonica TPS(LjTPS) gene family was identified and functionally analyzed using bioinformatics methods. The results showed that a total of 70 members of the LjTPS gene family were identified in L. japonica, with protein lengths ranging from 130 to 1 437 amino acids. Most of these proteins were hydrophilic, and they were unevenly distributed across nine chromosomes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the LjTPS gene family members were divided into six subfamilies, mainly consisting of members from the TPS-a, TPS-b, and TPS-e subfamilies. Promoter cis-acting element analysis showed that LjTPS members contained a large number of stress-responsive cis-acting elements. Aphid inoculation experiments showed that key enzyme genes in the MVA pathway for terpenoid backbone synthesis in L. japonica, such as HMGS, HMGR, MK, MPD, and the key enzyme gene in the DXP pathway, DXS, exhibited an initial increase followed by a decrease under aphid stress. The qRT-PCR analysis showed that the expression levels of the α-farnesene synthase genes LjTPS34 and LjTPS39 were down-regulated, while the expression levels of(E)-β-caryophyllene synthase genes LjTPS15 and LjTPS17 were up-regulated 12 h before aphid feeding, then began to decline. Farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase(FPS), which interacted with these genes, also displayed a pattern of increasing followed by decreasing expression. The expression of linalool synthase genes LjTPS12 and LjTPS33 was significantly up-regulated after 72 h of aphid feeding(P<0.000 1), reaching 24.39 and 22.64 times the initial expression, respectively. This pattern was in close alignment with the trend of linalool content in L. japonica. This study provides a theoretical foundation for future research on the interaction between L. japonica and pests, as well as on the functional roles of the LjTPS gene family.

OBJECTIVES:
To study the epidemiological characteristics of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in hospitalized children with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in Hebei Province.
METHODS:
Hospitalized children with CAP who tested positive for RSV and were admitted to Hebei Children's Hospital from various cities and counties across Hebei Province between January 2019 and December 2023 were included in the study. Clinical data were collected and analyzed to assess epidemiological characteristics.
RESULTS:
The clinical data of 43 978 children with CAP were collected, with an overall RSV detection rate of 25.98%. The detection rate was higher during the implementation of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) (30.60%) than in the non-NPIs period. Winter and spring were the primary epidemic seasons for RSV each year except in 2022. The detection rate in males (26.62%) was higher than in females (25.06%) (P<0.001). The highest detection rate (59.18%) was found in infants aged 29 days to <1 year. Single RSV infection was more common, with rhinovirus being the most frequent co-infection.
CONCLUSIONS
The overall RSV detection rate in Hebei Province is influenced by NPIs, being higher during their implementation. RSV predominantly circulates in winter and spring. The detection rate of RSV is higher in males and infants. RSV infection is primarily single, most often co-occurring with rhinovirus.

Objective To explore the effects of different nerve blocks under ultrasound guidance on the expression of inflammatory factors after total hip replacement in the elderly, and its correlation with postoperative cognitive dysfunction(POCD).Methods A total of 100 elderly patients who underwent total hip replacement in our hospital from February to November 2023 were selected as the research objects, and they were divided into the femoral nerve block(FNB)group and the pericapsule nerve group block(PNGB)group according to different nerve block methods during the operation. The expression of inflammatory factors such as serum interleukin-1β(IL-1β),interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-10(IL-10),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)and tumor necrosis factor-β(TNF-β)1 day before surgery,6 hours after anesthesia,1 day after surgery, and 3 days after surgery of patients in the two groups were compared. The cognitive function of patients was evaluated by the mini-mental state examination(MMSE)score, and the pain of patients was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS)score.GEE model was used to evaluate the effects of two kinds of nerve block on the expression of inflammatory factors.Logistic regression was used to analyzed the correlation between postoperative inflammatory factors and POCD in patients. Results The levels of IL-1β,IL-6,IL-10,TNF-α and TNF-β 1 day after operation in the PNGB group were higher than those in the FNB group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The MMSE score 1 day after surgery in the PNGB group was significantly higher than that in the FNB group(P<0.05),and the VAS score 3 days after surgery was significantly lower than that in the FNB group(P<0.05).GEE model showed that PNGB has a greater impact on IL-1β,IL-6,IL-10,TNF-α,and TNF-β.IL-1β,IL-6,IL-10,TNF-α,and TNF-β were all independently related to POCD induced by two different nerve blocks(P<0.05).Conclusion PNGB can effectively inhibit pro-inflammatory factors, reduce inflammatory stress responses, and maintain the balance of inflammatory factors.Inflammatory factors are independently related to POCD induced by different nerve blocks. With the occurrence of inflammatory stress response, the risk of POCD in patients increases.

Objective:To explore the clinical application value of artificial intelligence models in identifying bleeding events and hemorrhagic points during laparoscopic pancreatic surgery. Methods:This single-center retrospective cohort study collected surgical videos of 25 patients undergoing laparoscopic pancreatic surgery at the Department of General Surgery, Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2022 to December 2024. Videos within 5 seconds before and after representative bleeding events were captured at 30 frames/s, with 11 666 hemorrhagic-related video frames annotated. Two algorithm models were developed: a pigment-based model and a pigment+optical flow-based model for classification and target recognition of bleeding frames. The training and test sets for the pigment-based algorithm contained 4 692 hemorrhagic and 4 309 non-hemorrhagic frames, while those for the pigment+optical flow model included 1 339 hemorrhagic and 1 326 non-hemorrhagic frames. Performance evaluation was conducted using overlap thresholds, with accuracy and recall rates as key metrics. Results:The pigment-based model achieved 93.8% accuracy (134/143) and 43.3% recall (134/310) in hemorrhagic frame classification. At an overlap threshold of 0.3, the pigment-based model showed 84.1% accuracy (433/515) and 85.4% recall (433/507) in target recognition. When the threshold was increased to 0.5, the pigment+optical flow model demonstrated 88.1% accuracy (354/402) and 89.2% recall (354/397) in hemorrhagic target recognition. Conclusions:It is difficult to distinguish active bleeding from old bleeding completely by pigment information alone. The spatio-temporal features can be effectively extracted by combining pigment and optical flow information, and the bleeding can be accurately identified and located, which has potential clinical application value.

Objective To investigate the effects and molecular mechanisms of inhibition of the Ras homolog gene(Rho)/Rho-associated coiled-coil forming protein kinase(ROCK)pathway on the proliferation and migration of airway smooth muscle cells involving myocardin(MYOCD).Methods Human airway smooth muscle cells were infected with the adenoviral vector Ad-ZsGreen-shRNA-hROCK1 in vitro. The cells were randomly divided into four groups:ROCK1 gene silencing control(shNC)group,shNC+arachidonic acid(AA,Rho/ROCK pathway activator)group,ROCK1 gene silencing(shROCK1)group,and shROCK1+AA group(n=3 each).Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot were used to detect the expression levels of ROCK1 and MYOCD mRNA and protein.ELISA was employed to measure the levels of globular actin and filamentous actin, while immunofluorescent staining and scratch assays were utilized to assess cell proliferation and migration. Results Compared to the shNC+AA group, the shROCK1+AA group exhibited decreased levels of ROCK1 and MYOCD mRNA and protein expression, reduced expression levels of globular actin and filamentous actin, and diminished cell proliferation and migration capabilities(P<0.05).Conclusions Inhibition of the Rho/ROCK pathway suppresses the proliferation and migration of airway smooth muscle cells, which may be associated with the downregulation of MYOCD.
