OBJECTIVE To investigate the causes and process of an outbreak of crusted scabies among intensive care unit(ICU)staff in a three-A general hospital, and to provide a basis for clinical prevention and control of scabi-es infection.METHODS A hospital-acquired scabies infection event that occurred in Aug.2023 was investigated.A field investigation was undertaken, lessons were summarized, and comprehensive prevention and control measures were developed and implemented.RESULTS Among the 53 exposed cases of ICU staff,36 cases were acquired sca-bies infection, with an infection rate of 67.92%.The infection rates of different categories of workers were signifi-cant(P=0.004),specifically,the infection rate was 100.00%for cleaners,74.36%for nurses, and 22.22%for doctors. After the control measures were implemented,no new infections occurred, and the outbreak was effec-tively controlled.Twenty-one individuals exhibited one or more areas of infection, primarily on the forearms,ab-domen,finger creases, elbow pits and inner thighs. The main reasons for the outbreak of infection were the failure to promptly diagnose the index case and inadequate implementation of standard precautions among medical staff and cleaners.CONCLUSIONS Timely diagnosis and treatment are the key measures to prevent and control the out-break of scabies infection.Rapid isolation and treatment of the first case, implementation of environmental disin-fection measures, rapid screening of suspected cases and close contacts, standardized treatment and prevention of infected persons and close contacts with drugs, and training and guidance on scabies related knowledge are es-sential for the control of hospital-acquired infection of scabies.

Objective To investigate the water quality of the army camps and warships of the coastal troops in Shandong province, and to find out and control the drinking water hazards affecting the health and safety of officers and soldiers. Methods Physical and chemical analyses and microbial testing were used to detect and evaluate the water quality of army camps and warships by combining laboratory testing and rapid detection. Results A total of 128 water samples were monitored in 28 units in the region,of which 51.6%were qualified and 48.4%were unqualified. The unqualified items were the total number of colonies, the total coliform, the heat-resistant coliform, and fluoride. The qualified rates of purified water, camp water and water-tank water were 72.7%,45.5%and 37.3%,respectively.There were significant differences in the total number of colonies and the qualified rate among different types of water samples(χ2=12.565,P<0.05).Conclusion Self-owned water sources and water storage equipment are the main factors affecting water quality. It is necessary to pay attention to microbiological indicators and take effective control measures for water quality.
