1.Hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsies: A report of two cases and a literature review
Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases 2025;42(7):652-655
In this study, a retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data and electromyography findings of two patients with genetically confirmed hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsies (HNPP). Electromyography examination showed that both patients had extensive peripheral nerve injuries involving motor and sensory nerve functions, and reductions in both MNCV and SNCV were observed at the sites with liability to nerve compression. Both patients carried heterozygous deletion mutations of the peripheral myelin protein 22 gene. This article analyzes the clinical manifestations, electromyography findings, and genetic testing results of two patients with HNPP and conducts a literature review, in order to provide a reference for the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of HNPP in clinical practice.

Objective To evaluate the risk of occupational noise-induced hearing loss in workers in a metal tool manufacturing enterprise, and to carry out risk classification and risk management. Methods A total of 91 male noise-exposed workers from a metal tool manufacturing enterprise in Hebei Province were selected as the research subjects using the convenience sampling method. The work site survey on occupational health and the measurement on individual noise exposure level were carried out. The ISO 1999:2013 (E) Acoustics-Estimation of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss was used to predict the risk of high frequency hearing loss (HFHL) and occupational noise-induced deafness (ONID). The risk classification and risk management were conducted using the WS/T 754-2016 Guideline for Risk Management of Occupational Noise Hazard (hereinafter referred to as WS/T 754-2016). Results The individual noise exposure intensity of workers in the six work sites of the enterprise, including blade workers, sheet punching workers, roller forging workers (hoe), hole punching workers, roller forging workers(shovels), and carpenters, exceeded the national occupational exposure limit, with the maximum volume of 91.2-104.1 dB(A). Among these workers, the positions of blade workers, sheet punching workers, and roller forging workers (hoe) were identified as critical control points for noise hazards in the enterprise. The detection rates of HFHL and ONID were 24.2% and 8.8%, respectively. The risk prediction results showed that, based on the actual noise exposure time and age of the study subjects, the risk of HFHL and ONID ranged from 1.7%-48.8% and 0.0%-29.5%, respectively. The risks of HFHL caused solely by occupational noise exposure when working up to 50.0, 55.0, and 60.0 years of age were 11.4% to 64.7%, 16.4% to 65.1%, and 17.2% to 59.4%, respectively. The risks of ONID caused solely by occupational noise exposure were 0.0% to 45.5%, 4.2% to 51.7%, and 5.9% to 57.4%, respectively. Except for the blade workers, the predicted median of potential noise-induced permanent threshold shifts (NIPTS) in the other five positions were lower than the actual values of NIPTS, with the difference ranging from 3.0-28.3 dB, and 73.3% of them underestimated by 10.0 dB or more. Conclusion The outcome of noise exposure on the hearing of workers in this enterprise are severe. Risk management should be conducted according to the WS/T 755-2016.

Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas are a relatively rare group of mature T-cell lymphomas mainly manifesting in the skin, and its common subtype is mycosis fungoides. Total skin electron irradiation is one of the important conventional treatment methods, but there are many disadvantages, such as uneven dose distribution, poor position repetition, and long treatment time, which affect the clinical efficacy and patient prognosis. With the emergence and gradual popularization of helical tomotherapy in recent years, more and more medical institutions are gradually expanding their applications in total skin irradiation due to their ability to treat ultra-long targets and achieve dose-sculpted distribution, aiming to further explore its good or bad, and confirm whether it can replace the traditional total skin electron irradiation. In this article, research progress on total skin irradiation using helical tomotherapy was reviewed, the development of treatment technology, clinical efficacy and current concerns and controversies were illustrated.

Artificial genetic parts should be modularized and can be predictably scaled up via assembly or reused in other contexts. Under intracellular physiological conditions, however, the functions of the assembled parts are severely impeded by multi-level physiological interference, i.e., most artificial assembled systems cannot be functional as predicted. Here we proposed a concept of synthetic physiology, defining it as the branch of synthetic biology to investigate and control interferences between artificial genetic parts and intracellular physiological system. Under such framework, we describe the part-host interactions and review the methods and strategies used to characterize and address these interactions.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between metabolic syndrome( MS) and occupational stress among workers in high altitude area. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 940 workers as research subjects who were engaged in petroleum smelting, thermal power generation and financial management et al. in high altitude area. A questionnaire survey was conducted using the Occupational Stress Inventory-Revised for occupational stress, The occupational health examination was performed to measure waist circumference, blood pressure, blood sugar and blood lipids. RESULTS: The abnormal rates in obesity,triglycerides,high-density lipoprotein, blood pressure and fasting blood glucose were 28. 3%,16. 3%,14. 3%,13. 3% and 6. 5%, respectively. The detection rate of MS was 5. 0%( 47/940). The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of elevated MS decreased with the increased of occupational stress level( P < 0. 05),and the risk of elevated MS increased with the increased of occupational stress reaction severity( P < 0. 05),after adjusting the confounding factors of gender and labor nature. CONCLUSION: The higher occupational stress reaction of the workers in high altitude area, the higher the risk of MS.

Korean Journal of Radiology 2014;15(4):523-529
OBJECTIVE: The prior functional MRI studies have demonstrated significantly abnormal activity in the bilateral superior temporal gyrus (STG) of anxiety patients. The purpose of the current investigation was to determine whether the abnormal activity in these regions was related to a loss of functional connectivity between these regions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten healthy controls and 10 anxiety patients underwent noninvasive fMRI while actively listening to emotionally neutral words alternated by silence (Task 1) or threat-related words (Task 2). The participants were instructed to silently make a judgment of each word's valence (i.e., unpleasant, pleasant, or neutral). A coherence analysis was applied to the functional MRI data to examine the functional connectivity between the left and the right STG, which was selected as the primary region of interest on the basis of our prior results. RESULTS: The data demonstrated that the anxiety patients exhibited significantly increased activation in the bilateral STG than the normal controls. The functional connectivity analysis indicated that the patient group showed significantly decreased degree of connectivity between the bilateral STG during processing Task 2 compared to Task 1 (t = 2.588, p = 0.029). In addition, a significantly decreased connectivity was also observed in the patient group compared to the control group during processing Task 2 (t = 2.810, p = 0.012). CONCLUSION: Anxiety patients may exhibit increased activity of the STG but decreased functional connectivity between the left and right STG, which may reflect the underlying neural abnormality of anxiety disorder, and this will provide new insights into this disease.
