Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) is the pillar for the development of motherland medicine, and animal medicine has a long history of application in China, characterized by wide resources, strong activity, definite efficacy, and great benefits. It has significant potential and important status in the consumption market of raw materials of TCM. In the context of global climate change, farming system alterations, and low renewability, the depletion of wild medicinal animal resources has accelerated. Accordingly, the conservation and sustainable utilization of wild resources of animal medicinal materials has become a problem that garners increasing attention and urgently needs to be solved. This paper summarizes the current situation of domestic and foreign medicinal animal breeding and research progress in industrial application in recent years and points out the issues related to standardized breeding, germplasm selection and breeding, and quality evaluation standards for medicinal animals. Furthermore, this paper discusses standardized breeding, quality standards, resource protection and utilization, and the search for alternative resources for rare and endangered medicinal animals. It proposes that researchers should systematically carry out in-depth basic research on animal medicine, improve the breeding scale and level of medicinal animals, employ modern technology to enhance the quality standards of medicinal materials, and strengthen the research and development of alternative resources. This approach aims to effectively address the relationship between protection and utilization and make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of medicinal animal resources and the animal-based Chinese medicinal material industry.

Objective:To compare the efficacy of cannulated screw internal fixation combined with quadratus femoris bone flap with preservation of the posterior superior retinaculum and cannulated screw internal fixation alone in the treatment of femoral neck fracture in young and middle-aged patients. Methods:A retrospective cohort study was conducted to analyze the clinical data of 83 young and middle-aged patients with femoral neck fracture admitted to the 920th Hospital of Joint Logistic Support Force of PLA from January 2018 to January 2023, including 56 males and 27 females, aged 28-55 years [(42.7±3.2)years]. According to Garden classification, the fractures were classified as type III in 22 patients and type IV in 61. Based on Pauwels classification, the fractures were classified as type I in 15 patients, type II in 38 and type III in 30. Forty patients were treated with cannulated screw internal fixation combined with modified quadratus femoris bone flap (cannulated screw combined with bone flap group) and 43 with cannulated screw internal fixation alone (cannulated screw group). The two groups were compared in terms of the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, time to weight-bearing, length of hospital stay, and wound healing. The visual analogue scale (VAS) scores and Harris hip function scores at 1, 3, 6, 12 months after surgery and at the last follow-up. The postoperative complication rate was detected. Results:All the patients were followed up for 20-70 months [(40.0±1.2)months]. The operation time and intraoperative blood loss were (105.2±2.7)minutes and (100.6±16.3)ml in the cannulated screw combined with bone flap group, which were longer or more than (92.4±4.7)minutes and (92.5±14.6)ml in the cannulated screw group ( P<0.01). The time to weight-bearing was (12.1±1.4)weeks in the cannulated screw combined with bone flap group, shorter than (23.6±1.2)weeks in the cannulated screw group ( P<0.01). There was no statistically significant difference in the length of hospital stay between the two groups (P>0.05). The incisions in both groups were healed by first intention. At 1 month after surgery, no statistically significant difference was observed in VAS scores between the two groups ( P>0.05); at 3, 6, 12 months after surgery and at the last follow-up, the VAS scores were (6.6±0.2)points, (4.5±0.3)points, (3.2±0.5)points, and (2.6±0.4)points in the cannulated screw combined with bone flap group, lower than (7.0±0.1)points, (5.2±0.2)points, (3.9±0.4)points, and (3.3±0.1)points in the cannulated screw group ( P<0.05 or 0.01). At 1 and 3 months after surgery, no statistically significant difference was observed in the Harris hip function scores between the two groups ( P>0.05); at 6, 12 months after surgery and at the last follow-up, the Harris hip function scores were (82.2±1.7)points, (90.0±1.4)points, and (91.6±1.0)points in the cannulated screw combined with bone flap group, higher than (75.2±1.7)points, (83.4±1.9)points, and (85.2±0.7)points in the cannulated screw group ( P<0.01). At the last follow-up, in the cannulated screw combined with bone flap group, the Harris hip function was rated excellent in 32 patients, good in 5, and fair in 3, with an excellent and good rate of 92.5%, while in the cannulated screw group, the Harris hip function was rated excellent in 20 patients, good in 13, and fair in 10, with an excellent and good rate of 76.7% ( P<0.05). The postoperative complication rate was 5.0% (2/40) in the cannulated screw combined with bone flap group, significantly lower than 23.2% (10/43) in the cannulated screw group ( P<0.05). Conclusion:Compared with cannulated screw internal fixation alone, cannulated screw internal fixation combined with quadratus femoris bone flap with preservation of the posterior superior retinaculum has the advantages of earlier weight-bearing, less pain, better recovery of hip joint function, and lower incidence of postoperative complications in the treatment of femoral neck fracture in young and middle-aged patients, despite longer operation time and more intraoperative blood loss.

Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases 2025;42(11):1034-1037
Objective There are complex pathophysiological changes in each component of cerebral tissue after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, and routine neuroprotective strategies fail to exert an effective therapeutic effect in clinical practice. However, the proposal of neurovascular unit(NVU) provides a new conceptual framework for a more comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiological process for interactions between each component of cerebral tissue after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, laying a theoretical foundation for investigating new targets for clinical treatment. Methods A novel NVU in vitro model was established in Transwell co-culture plate using the neurons, astrocytes, and brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs) derived from the cortex of Sprague-Dawley rats, and MTT assay was used to measure cell viability in the modified and classical NVU models after OGD/R injury for 1 hour. Results An in vitro NVU model with the three-layer structure of neurons, astrocytes, and BMECs from the top to the bottom was successfully established using Transwell co-culture plate. After OGD/R injury for 1 hour, the neurons in the modified in vitro NVU model showed a significantly higher viability than those in the classical NVU model (P<0.05), while there were no significant differences in the viability of astrocytes and BMECs between the two models (P>0.05). Conclusion The modified in vitro NVU model is more suitable for the research on ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

Sarin(GB)is a typical representative of nerve agents with high toxicity, and very low amount can cause death.GB can cause water and atmospheric environment poisoning,so the detection of GB in water and air is of great significance. In this work,a colorimetric sensor array(CSA)based on GB inhibition of cholinesterase activity was constructed to detect GB with high selectivity.A 4×4 colorimetric array was constructed using acetylcholinesterase(AChE),butyryl cholinesterase(BuChE)and the corresponding substrate acetylthiocholine iodide(S-ACh),butyryl thiocholine iodide(S-BCh),acetylcholine chloride(ACh),butyryl choline chloride(BCh)and 2,6-dichloroindophenol ethyl ester(DCIE).The linear curve of the sensor was Y=131.3×lgC+271.6(R2=0.997),where Y was the array response Euclidean distance,C was the concentration of GB(mg/L),the linear range was 0.03?0.32 mg/L,and the detection limit was 27.6 μg/L.The method could effectively distinguish chemical warfare agents(CWA)such as VX,Soman(GD),mustard gas(HD),Louie reagent(L),and had high anti-interference ability, sensitivity and good repeatability. It was successfully applied to the detection of GB in simulated water and simulated air samples, and the sample recovery rate was 97.2% ?100.9%.This method would be potentially applied to the field rapid detection of nerve agents.
