Chinese Journal of School Health 2026;47(1):60-64
Objective:
To investigate the prevalence and associated factors of depressive symptoms among junior and senior high school students in Beijing from 2019 to 2023, in order to provide a scientific basis for interventions targeting high risk groups.
Methods:
From 2019 to 2023, a stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select 88 927 junior and senior high school students from 16 districts in Beijing. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale(CES-D) was conducted to assess depressive symptoms. The Chi square test was used to compare the detection rates of depressive symptoms among different student groups, and the trend Chi square test was employed for trend analysis of detection rates across the years. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was applied to examine the association between the detection of depressive symptoms and related factors among junior and senior high school students.
Results:
From 2019 to 2023, the prevalence rates of depressive symptoms among junior and senior high school students in Beijing were 20.45%, 18.19%, 16.64%, 17.89% and 18.17%, respectively, with an overall downward trend ( χ 2 trend =27.51, P <0.01). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis revealed that after adjusting for gender, monitoring year, educational stage, family structure, boarding status and has taken a medical leave of absence in the past year unhealthy dietary behaviors ( OR=1.80, 95%CI =1.73-1.87), physical inactivity ( OR=1.24, 95%CI =1.19-1.29), try smoking ( OR=1.46, 95%CI =1.35-1.58), try alcohol( OR=1.96, 95%CI =1.88-2.05), Internet addiction ( OR=3.88, 95%CI =3.57-4.22), and adverse ear related behavior ( OR=1.82, 95%CI =1.71-1.93) were all associated with an increased risk of depressive symptoms among junior and senior high school students (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
The prevalence depression symptoms among middle school students in Beijing showed a fluctuating downward trend from 2019 to 2023. Targeted interventions should be adopted to reduce the occurrence of depression symptoms among junior and senior high school students.
2.Association of physical activity and sedentary behavior with cardiorespiratory fitness among middle school students in Lhasa
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(9):1318-1322
Objective:
To explore the relationship of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) with cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) among middle schoold students in Tibet, so as to provide empirical references for improving the cardiorespiratory fitness and health levels of adolescents in Tibet.
Methods:
From August to December 2020, 1 225 junior and senior high school students were selected from 2 middle schools in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, using the stratified cluster random sampling method. Triaxial accelerometers were used to evaluate PA and SB behaviors, and the 20 meter shuttle run was employed to assess CRF among the middle school students. Isochronous substitution modeling was used to analyze the associations of SB, low intensity physical activity (LPA), and moderate vigorous physical activity (MVPA) with CRF, and the saturation threshold effect in the dose response relationship between MVPA and CRF was analyzed through restricted cubic spline and two stage linear regression.
Results:
After adjusting for covariates such as gender, body mass index and sleep quality score, isotemporal substitution analysis showed that among junior high school students aged 13-15, replacing 30 minutes of SB ( B =1.73) or LPA ( B =2.38) with MVPA were positively associated with CRF (both P <0.05). Among senior high school students aged 16-18, replacing SB ( B =0.99) or LPA ( B =1.38) with MVPA were also positively associated with CRF (both P <0.05). Restricted cubic spline and two piecewise linear regression analyses indicated that only middle school girls aged 13-18 exhibited a saturation threshold effect between MVPA and CRF (logarithmic likelihood ratio test=0.03), with the optimal CRF improvement observed at 60 minutes of MVPA per day ( B=0.13, P < 0.01).
Conclusions
Reducing SB and LPA while increasing MVPA can improve CRF in Tibetan middle school students. To maximize CRF improvement, middle school girls should engage in at least 60 minutes of MVPA daily.

Probiotics play a crucial role in colon cancer treatment by metabolizing prebiotics to generate short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Colon cancer patients are frequently propositioned to supplement with probiotics to enhance the conversion and utilization of prebiotics. Nevertheless, the delivery and colonization of probiotics is hindered by the harsh conditions of gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Here, we devised a straightforward yet potent modified prebiotic-based "shield" (Gelatin-Inulin, GI), employing dietary inulin and natural polymer gelatin crosslinked via hydrogen bonding for enveloping Lactobacillus reuteri (Lr) to formulate synbiotic hydrogel capsules (Lr@Gl). The GI "shield" serves as a dynamic barrier, augmenting the resistance of Lr to gastric acid and facilitating its bioactivity and adherence in the GIT, synergizing with Lr to elicit an anti-tumor effect. Simultaneously, Lr@GI demonstrates anti-tumor effects by depleting glutathione to release reactive oxygen species, accompanied by the activation of NLRP3 (NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3), and the induction M1 macrophage polarization. Furthermore, Lr@GI can not only promote the recovery of intestinal barrier but also regulate intestinal flora, promoting the production of SCFAs and further exerting anti-tumor effect. Crucially, Lr@GI also potentiates the anti-tumor effect of 5-Fluorouracil. The construction and synergistic anti-tumor mechanism of synbiotic hydrogel capsules system provide valuable insights for gut microbial tumor therapy.

International Journal of Surgery 2025;52(5):332-338
Objective:To explore the effects and potential mechanisms of cell growth regulator 1 ( CGREF1) with an EF hand domain in colorectal cancer proliferation and migration. Methods:Fifty paraffin specimens of colorectal cancer tissues and corresponding paracancerous tissues were selected from January 2023 to January 2024 from the Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital Affiliated to Yangzhou University for analysis, and TCGA, GDSC, KMPLOT and STRING databases were used to explore the expression, prognosis, immune microenvironment, drug sensitivity and related signaling pathway functions of CGREF1 in colorectal cancer. Tissue and cellular expression levels of CGREF1 were analyzed by immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR. Lentiviral-mediated CGREF1 overexpression in SW-620 cells (OE- CGREF1 vs NC groups) was functionally characterized through CCK-8 proliferation assays, colony formation tests, and scratch wound healing migration assays, with mechanistic investigation via Western blot analysis of apoptosis markers, invasion-related proteins, and RAS/RAF/ERK pathway components. In vivo tumorigenicity was assessed by subcutaneous injection of control or CGREF1-overexpressing SW620 cells in nude mice ( n=3 per group) with tumor growth monitoring. Software of GraphPad Prism 9 was used for statistical analysis of experimental data. Results:CGREF1CGREF1RASERK Studies based on databases, clinical samples and colorectal cancer cell line analyses demonstrated that CGREF1 is downregulated in colorectal cancer, where low CGREF1 expression showed positive correlation with tumor diameter and invasion depth. CGREF1 is closely related to tumor immune infiltration microenvironment and sensitivity to multiple anti-tumor drugs. Overexpression of CGREF1 promoted cell apoptosis while inhibiting cell proliferation, invasion and migration. Overexpression of CGREF1 downregulated the expression levels of RAS, ERK and P-P38/MAPK pathway proteins. CGREF1 inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Conclusion:CGREF1 can inhibit the proliferation, colony formation, and migration of CRC cells through the RAS/ERK/MAPK pathway.

Objective:
To investigate the iodine nutrition status of children aged 8-10 in Guangming, Longhua and Yantian District of Shenzhen in 2023, and to explore the influencing factors of thyroid volume. To evaluate prevention strategies and to provide a scientific basis for the elimination of iodine deficiency disorders.
Methods:
Urine and household salt samples were randomly collected from 580 non-boarding students aged 8-10 years foriodine content detection. Thyroid volume was measured using a fully digital ultrasound imaging system, and goiter prevalence was calculated.
Results:
A total of 580 samples was tested. The median salt iodine concentration was 23.86 mg/kg, with 93.62% qualified iodized salt and 94.48% coverage rate. The median of urinary iodine was 265.00 μg/L, mainly distributed between 200 - < 300 μg/L and ≥300 μg/L. The proportion of children with ap⁃ propriate iodine was 20. 86% , and the proportion of children with insufficient or excessive urinary iodine levels was 10. 86% and 68. 28% of the total surveyed population , respectively. The median thyroid volume was 3. 27 mL , and the goiter rate was 1. 72% . Multiple linear regression analysis showed that age was the risk factor for thyroid volume (8=0 328, P<0.05). while urinary iodine was the protective factor for thyroid volume(B=-4.134x10-4,P<0.05).
Conclusion
The qualified iodized salt rate, median of urinary iodine, and goiter prevalence of 580 children aged 8 - 10 meet the elimination criteria for iodine deficiency disorders. Age and urinary iodine are closely related to thyroid volume change. The urinary iodine level of children is generally high and requires serious attention.

Objective:To identify the development trajectories of self-neglect behavior in older adults and explore the associated influencing factors. Methods:A fixed cohort was constructed based on the data from three surveys of Chinese longitudinal healthy longevity survey (CLHLS) from 2011 to 2018. A total of eight variables from 4 dimensions including living environment, lifestyle, social interaction, and health care were selected to evaluate self-neglect. Group-based trajectory model was used to identify the development trajectory of self-neglect behavior in the older adults, and polynomial Logistic regression model was used to explore its influencing factors by Stata 16.1.Results:Finally, 2 754 older adults aged 60 and above were included. The development trajectory of self-neglect behavior in older adults, based on the group-based trajectory model, can be classified into stable-low group ( n=268, 9.7%), descending-moderate group ( n=2 224, 80.8%), and decreasing-high group ( n=262, 9.5%). Polynomial Logistic regression showed that, compared with stable-low group, living in rural areas ( B=1.116, OR=3.053, 95% CI= 2.278-4.091) and higher activities of daily living scores( B=0.137, OR=1.147, 95% CI=1.046-1.258) were the risk factors of descending-moderate group. Education levels with 1-6 years( B=-0.398, OR=0.672, 95% CI=0.469-0.963), >6 years( B=-1.072, OR=0.342, 95% CI=0.229-0.513), being married( B=-0.476, OR=0.621, 95% CI=0.444-0.870), self-reported good health( B=-0.808, OR=0.446, 95% CI= 0.213-0.932), improved health status( B=-0.704, OR=0.495, 95% CI=0.320-0.766), self-reported average economic status( B=-1.065, OR=0.345, 95% CI=0.148-0.802), self-reported good economic status( B=-1.634, OR=0.195, 95% CI=0.082-0.467), and a higher cognition score( B=-0.142, OR=0.867, 95% CI=0.798-0.942) served as protective factors of descending-moderate group. In addition to the above factors, being in the age group of 75-89 years( B=0.481, OR=1.617, 95% CI=1.057-2.473) was a risk factor for decreasing-high group compared to stable-low group. Conclusions:Three types of self-neglect behavior trajectories among older adults were identified in this study, suggesting that physical health and economy are the influencing factors of the development trajectory of self-neglect of the elderly.

Hepatitis E virus(HEV)is one of the most common pathogens in acute viral hepatitis. There are at least eight distinct genotypes of HEV.Only humans can contract HEV genotypes 1 and 2,but zoonotic viruses like genotypes 3 and 4 are mostly spread by eating undercooked or in-fected pork in some affluent nations. As a result, boars, both domestic and wild, are typically regar-ded as primary hosts of HEV.Nevertheless, during the past few years,a growing body of research has demonstrated that a number of other wild ruminant animals, such as wild deer and goats, are also susceptible to HEV infection.Determining their participation in the epidemiological cycle of hepatitis E thus requires an understanding of the risk variables that influence the transmission be-tween wild ruminants and humans. With an emphasis on published serological and molecular re-search,this review offers a broad summary of the body of knowledge currently available on the epi-demiology of HEV in wild ruminants. It addresses potential risk factors that could impact the spread of HEV among animals as well as their potential to serve as a source of infectious zoonotic illnesses. It presents an overview of the most recent developments in the epidemiology of HEV in wild ruminants and offers a framework for HEV prevention and management based on science.
