Infectious diseases occur and evolve through a dynamic contest between pathogenic qi and the body's healthy qi, with marked stage-dependent progression. This paper constructs a whole-course system of syndrome differentiation and treatment based on the theories of "struggle between pathogenic qi and healthy qi" and "relapse due to overexertion after recovery". The former reveals the intrinsic link between the waxing and waning of pathogenic and healthy qi and the evolution of syndromes, guiding stratified interventions during acute stage by discerning the location and nature of pathogenic factors and determining appropriate strategies for eliminating pathogens and supporting healthy qi according to the dynamics of deficiency and excess syndromes. The latter focuses on the recovery stage after infection and disease relapse, emphasizing harmonizing yin, yang, qi and blood to restore functions of zang-fu (脏腑) organs, and combining unblocking, tonifying, and turbidity-dispelling methods to eliminate both new and lingering pathogens. Throughout the whole-course treatment, attention should be paid to dynamic pathogenesis and stage-to-stage coherence, with emphasis on formula-syndrome correspondence, and integration of modern diagnostic and therapeutic measures, to construct individualized strategies bridging disease stages and integrating prevention with treatment, thereby systematically leveraging the integrative strengths of traditional Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.

The incidence of infertility disorders is increasing year by year, affecting about 12-15% of women of reproductive age worldwide. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the common causes of infertility. In recent years, the incidence rate of PCOS has increased year by year, but the improvement of endocrine and metabolic dysfunction and pregnancy outcomes in patients with PCOS are not satisfactory. There is a consensus both domestically and internationally that improving metabolic function and endocrine abnormalities in PCOS patients can increase their pregnancy rate. Therefore, it is important to explore the improvement of metabolic function in patients with PCOS. This article reviews the progress of basic research on improving metabolic function in patients with PCOS.

Objective To investigate the effects of sodium butyrate on the activity of RAW264.7 cells and the osteoclast differentiation. Methods The RAW264.7 cells were treated by sodium butyrate at concentrations of 0,0.25,0.50,1.00,2.00,3.00,4.00 and 5.00 mmol/L,with 3 double pores for each concentration. The cytotoxicity of sodium butyrate on RAW264.7 cells was detected by a CCK-8 kit.The effects of sodium butyrate (0,0.25,0.50 and 1.00 mmol/L) on apoptosis of RAW264.7 cells were detected by Hoechst33342 staining.RAW264.7 cells were induced into osteoclasts by osteoclast differentiation factors. The experiment was carried out in 2 groups (n =3).After induced maturation, the experimental group was treated with 1.00 mmol/L sodium butyrate and the control medium was added only with the same volume of solvent. The number of osteoclasts and the area of bone resorption were observed and compared. The differentiation of RAW264.7 cells was detected by tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining.Western blotting was used to detect the effects of sodium butyrate (0,0.25,0.50 and 1.00 mmol/L) on NF-κB-related signaling pathway in RAW264.7 cells. Results Compared with the group of 0 mmol/L sodium butyrate, the activity of cells treated with 1.00,2.00,3.00,4.00 and 5.00 mmol/L sodium butyrate for 24 h was significantly decreased (P < 0.05).Treatment with 1.00 mmol/L sodium butyrate for 24 h induced apoptosis. The number of osteoclasts in the control group and the experimental group were 9.33 ± 2.08 and 4.67 ± 1.16,respectively,showing a significant difference between the 2 groups (t =3.395,P =0.027).The percentages of bone resorption area in the control group and the experimental group were 52.43% ± 5.38% and 14.28% ± 2.72%,respectively,also showing a significant difference between the 2 groups (t =10.970,P < 0.001).Western blot results showed that, compared with other concentrations of sodium butyrate, treatment with 1 mmol/L sodium butyrate on RAW264.7 cells for 24 h led to an increase in the expression levels of cytoplasmic p65,B lymphoma-2 associated X protein and cleaved-caspase 3 and the acetylation of Histone H3 but a decrease in the phosphorylation level of α/β subunit of NF-κB kinase. Conclusions With the increased concentration of sodium butyratecan, the activity of NF-κB may be suppressed and the number of apoptotic cells may increase.1.00 mmol/L sodium butyrate can reduce osteoclast formation and bone resorption area.

Objective To compare different methods for developing rat model of the syndrome of cold fluid retention in lung ( CFRL) , so as to find an easier and more reliable modeling method for CFRL. Methods Twenty rats were divided into 4 groups, namely normal group, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) group, tobacco group, and cold bath group, 5 rats in each group. Lipopolysaccharide group was given intratracheal drip of LPS, tobacco smoking and cold bath, tobacco group was given tobacco smoking and cold bath, and cold bath group was given cold bath and intragastric gavage of cold water. The modeling time in the three groups lasted for 15 days. After the experiment, we compared the general health state, body weight, sputum volume and pathological changes in rats of the four groups. Results (1) Compared with the normal group, activities of rats in the three modeling groups were lowered, body temperature decreased, and the signs of panting, cyanotic nose and lips with excretion, and sneezing (cough) were obvious. (2) Compared with the normal group, the decrease of body weight was obvious (P<0.01), expelling sputum volume was increased (P<0.05) in the model groups. However, the differences among the three model groups had no statistical differences ( P>0.05). ( 3) The results of lung tissue slice examination showed that the injury of lung tissue was severe in LPS group, mild in tobacco group and slight in cold bath group. Conclusion Rat model of CFRL has been established successfully in all of the three modeling groups, and in consideration with all respects, the method for tobacco group is the best.
