Resveratrol,a natural polyphenolic compound widely found in a variety of plants such as grapes, apples, blueberries, plums and peanuts, has been widely studied for its multiple biological functions such as its antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,antiviral,neuroprotective,cardioprotective,immunomodulatory and antitumor effects. This review aims to analyze the pleiotropic antitumor effects of resveratrol, including inhibition of tumor cell proliferation and metastasis, promotion of tumor cell autophagy, improvement of the tumor microenvironment, reduction of tumor cell resistance, and induction of epigenetic modifications. The re-search progress of resveratrol in colorectal, breast, lung, cervical, prostate, and oral cancers is also summa-rized.With its wide range of anti-tumor activities, resveratrol is expected to be a potential drug for tumor pre-vention and treatment.

Objective To explore the feasibility ,effectiveness ,recurrence rate and complications ,etc .of endoscopic retrograde stenting in treating acute appendicitis .Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on seven patients with the clinical diagnosis of acute appendicitis ,complying with the following treatment steps :(1) normal saline for high cleansing enema in 2-3 times ;(2) en-doscopically douching ileocecal junction and observing the opening of appendix ;(3) placing the guide wire into the opening of appen-dix under the guidance of imaging tube ,and then conducting angiography imaging ;(4) repeatedly douching with metronidazole;(5) implant the appendix stent ,draining the inflammatory secretions out and then douching ;(6 ) observing postoperative abdominal pain ,fever ,bowel and other conditions;(7) reviewing with the enteroscopy and removing the stent 2 weeks later .At 2 before the surgery and 48 after it ,all patients were administrated with antibiotics for anti-infective treatment .The follow-up was made from 8-15 months after the surgery .Results Among these 7 patients ,4 patients had successful appendix stenting :the abdominal pain sig-nificantly alleviated after the surgery ;the proportional level of white blood cells(WBC)recovered during 24-48 after the surgery .15 after discharge ,two patients returned to hospital and their appendix stent removal was successful;during the operation ,smooth mu-cosa at the opening of appendix was observed .The stents of two patients spontaneously fell off ,and normal morphology of the ap-pendix opening was observed at review .During the postoperative follow-up of 8-15 months ,one patient relapsed and underwent sur-gical treatment in the general surgery department .The other three patients did not undergo appendix stenting due to the unsuccess-ful intubation .Conclusion The treatment of acute appendicitis with endoscopic stenting has the advantages of little trauma ,high safety and significant efficacy .However ,this method still requires large-scale and multicenter randomized controlled clinical trials to evaluate its feasibility and long-term efficacy .

Objective To investigate the incidence of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) in divers of Dalian. Methods From January 2010 to December 2010,all registered 855 divers in Dalian were enrolled in this study. All divers underwent a unified medical examination and a questionnaire including height, weight, blood pressure and hip inspection.Radiological examination (anteroposterior and frog position)was used for all divers.Suspicious persons with hip pain but normal X-ray performance were confirmed by MRI.Results Sixty-eight divers were confirmed as ONFH,and the incidence of ONFH in divers of Dalian was 7.95%.According to the Ficat classification,12 patients (12 hips) were in Phase 1,40 patients (47 hips)in phase Ⅱ,3 patients (3 hips) in phase Ⅲ,13 patients (15 hips) in phase Ⅳ.The mean age of divers was 32.6+5.5 years (range,18-55 years). The onset ages of most patients ranged from 30 years to 50 years, accounted for 83.82% (57/68).Among all patients, primary school education accounted for 10.58% (38/359),junior high school education 6.28% (28/446),high school education 4.26% (2/47),university education 0 (0/3); seniority less than 5 years accounted for 4.55% (20/440),6-10 years 9.69% (28/289),11-15 years 13.04% (12/92),16-20 years 21.05% (4/19),more than 20 years 26.67% (4/15); self-employed accounted for 11.88% (19/160),private enterprise 8.41% (38/452),and national enterprise 4.53% (11/243).Conclusion The incidence of ONFH is high in divers of Dalian, which is different in terms of age, seniority, level of education, enterprise nature.

Objective To investigate the prevalence and charateristics of carotid atherosclerosis among healthy middle-aged people of community. Methods Totally 1930 subjects aged 50 years and above were selected randomly from 10027 participants recruited during Phase 3 of the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study (GBCS).Common carotid artery intima-media thickness (CCA-IMT) and carotid plaques (CP) were measured by B-mode ultrasonography using ALT HDI 3000 mainframe with a high-resolution. Results The prevalences of CCA-IMT and CP in men were higher than women [41.5%(400/963)vs.16.2 (157/967),34.1% (328/967) vs.13.8% (133/967),both P<0.001].The prevalence of CCA-1MT was higher with age increasing in either men or women in groups of 50-yrs,60-yrs and 70-79 yrs (all P<0.001).The most of CP was cankerous spot (37.8%),secondly hard spot (24.9%),soft spot (22.1%) and the prevalence of flat spot was lowest (15.2%).The number of CP was not significantly different between the left and right side (51.0% and 49.0%).The most common location of CP was bifurcations of carotid arteries (61.7 %),next the common carotid artery (21.0%) and internal carotid artery (ICA) was lowest (17.3 %).The prevalence of CP was 44.4% (83/87) in women aged 50- yrs,it was higher than that in men 20.9% (108/517).However,the prevalence of CP was 79.1% (409/517) in men aged more than 60 yrs, higher than that in women (55.6%). Conclusions The carotid atherosclerosis is commonly encountered disease in the male elderly, and the most of CP was cankerous spot in bifurcations of carotid arteries

Objective To evaluate the feasibility of endoscopic resection and closure for non-intraluminal gastric stromal tumors originating from the muscularis propria layer. Methods Included in the study were 46 patients with gastric submucosal lesions originating from the muscularis propria layer, detected by gastroscopy and endoscopic ultrasonography. The lesions were removed by endoscopic resection and closure, which were further diagnosed as stromal tumor by means of pathologic and immunohistochemical examinations. The patients were followed up with endoscopy for evaluation of therapeutic effect and complications. Results All lesions were successfully removed, with serosa layer remained in 2 cases and full layer resection in other 44, which were all closed by endoscopic clips.Combination managements of acid suppression, gastrointestinal decompression and intravenous antibiotics were applied in all patients.Pathology reports confirmed complete resection of all lesions, with 0.5 to 3.7 cm in diameter.Normal diet was restored in 44 patients 48 ~ 72 h after the procedure.Pneumoperitoneum and focal peritonitis occurred in 2 cases, one of which underwent rupture and was clamped again. The 2 patients recovered after 10-12 days of conservative treatments.Follow-up endoscopy revealed white ulcerous scar in all cases. Conclusion Endoscopic resection and closure therapy is a safe, economic and less invasive treatment for non-intraluminal gastric stromal tumors originating from the muscularis propria layer.
