1.How Job Stress and Psychological Adaptation Predicting Interpersonal Needs Among Female Migrant Manufacturing Workers in China: A Structural Equation Model

Background:
This study aimed to explore relationships between job stress and psychological adaptation and how they related to interpersonal needs through mood states among female migrant manufacturing workers.
Methods:
A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 16 factories in Shenzhen, China. Sociodemographic, job stress, psychological adaptation and other psychological information of was collected. Structural equation modeling was performed to delineate the internal relationship between variables.
Results:
The hypothetical structural equation model exhibited acceptable model fit among female migrant manufacturing workers (χ2 = 11.635, df = 2, χ2/df = 5.82, p = 0.003, RMSEA = 0.090, CFI = 0.972, SRMR = 0.020). Job stress was directly associated with mood states and interpersonal needs; Psychological adaptation was directly associated with mood states and indirectly associated with interpersonal needs; Bootstrapping tests demonstrated mediation effect of mood states in the way from psychological adaptation to interpersonal needs.
Conclusion
Female migrant manufacturing workers who suffered stress from job and the process of psychological adaptation may have worse mood states and workers with worse mood states are more likely to develop unmet interpersonal needs, a proximal factor of suicidal ideation.
2.Effects and mechanism of diammonium glycyrrhizinate on liver injury in severely scalded rats.

Objective: To investigate the effects and mechanism of diammonium glycyrrhizinate (DG) on liver injury in severely scalded rats. Methods: The experimental research method was used. Fifty-four female Sprague-Dawley rats aged 7-9 weeks were divided into sham injury group with simulated injury on the back, and simple scald group and scald+DG group with scald of 30% total body surface area on the back, with 18 rats in each group. Rats in sham injury group were not specially treated after injury, and rats in simple scald group and scald+DG group were rehydrated for antishock. Besides, rats in scald+DG group were injected intraperitoneally with 50 mg/kg DG at post injury hour (PIH) 1, 25, and 49. Rats in the three groups were collected, the serum content of liver function injury related indexes including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), total protein, and albumin was measured by automatic biochemical assay analyzer, and serum content of ornithine carbamoyl transferase (OCT) was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method at PIH 24, 48, and 72; hepatic histopathological changes at PIH 72 were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining; the mRNA expressions of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax), glucose regulated protein 78 (GRP78), activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), and protein kinase R-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (PERK) in liver tissue were detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction at PIH 24, 48, and 72. The protein expressions of Bcl-2, Bax, GRP78, PERK, and ATF4 in liver tissue were detected by Western blotting at PIH 72 in sham injury group and PIH 24, 48, and 72 in simple scald group and scald+DG group. The number of samples was 6 in each group at each time point. Data were statistically analyzed with analysis of variance for factorial design, one-way analysis of variance, and Bonferroni test. Results: Compared with that in sham injury group, the serum content of AST, ALT, and LDH was significantly increased (P<0.01), and the serum content of total protein and albumin was significantly decreased (P<0.05 or P<0.01) of rats in simple scald group at all post-injury time points. Compared with those in simple scald group, the serum AST content of rats in scald+DG group at PIH 24 was decreased significantly (P<0.05); the serum AST, ALT, and LDH content of rats in scald+DG group at PIH 48 was decreased significantly (P<0.01), and the serum total protein content was increased significantly (P<0.01); the serum AST, ALT, and LDH content of rats in scald+DG group at PIH 72 was decreased significantly (P<0.01), and the serum total protein and albumin content was increased significantly (P<0.01). At PIH 24, 48, and 72, the serum OCT content of rats in simple scald group was (48.5±3.9), (40.8±2.4), and (38.7±2.0) U/L, which was significantly higher than (15.1±2.5), (15.7±2.6), and (16.4±3.7) U/L in sham injury group (P<0.01), and (39.0±4.5), (31.8±2.0), and (22.1±2.6) U/L in scald+DG group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). At PIH 72, the cells in liver tissue of rats in sham injury group had normal morphology and regular arrangement, with no obvious inflammatory cell infiltration; the cells in liver tissue of rats in simple scald group had disordered arrangement, diffuse steatosis, and moderate inflammatory cell infiltration; the cells in liver tissue of rats in scald+DG group arranged regularly, with scattered steatosis and a small amount of inflammatory cell infiltration. Compared with those in sham injury group, the Bcl-2 mRNA (P<0.05 or P<0.01) and protein expressions of liver tissue were significantly decreased, and the mRNA (P<0.01) and protein expressions of Bax were significantly increased in rats in simple scald group at PIH 24, 48, and 72. Compared with those in simple scald group, the mRNA (P<0.05) and protein expressions of Bax in liver tissue of rats in scald+DG group were decreased significantly at PIH 48; the mRNA (P<0.01) and protein expressions of Bax in liver tissue of rats in scald+DG group were significantly decreased, and the mRNA (P<0.01) and protein expressions of Bcl-2 were significantly increased at PIH 72. Compared with those in sham injury group, the mRNA (P<0.05 or P<0.01) and protein expressions of ATF4, GRP78, and PERK in liver tissue were significantly increased in rats in simple scald group at all post-injury time points. Compared with those in simple scald group, the mRNA (P<0.01) and protein expressions of ATF4 in liver tissue of rats in scald+DG group at PIH 48 were significantly decreased, and the mRNA (P<0.05 or P<0.01) and protein expressions of ATF4, GRP78, and PERK were significantly decreased in liver tissue of rats in scald+DG group at PIH 72. Conclusions: DG can effectively reduce the degree of liver injury in rats after severe scald, and the mechanism may involve alleviating endoplasmic reticulum stress and mitigating mitochondrial damage.

3.Qili Qiangxin, a compound herbal medicine formula, alleviates hypoxia-reoxygenation-induced apoptotic and autophagic cell death via suppression of ROS/AMPK/mTOR pathway in vitro.

OBJECTIVE:
Qili Qiangxin (QLQX), a compound herbal medicine formula, is used effectively to treat congestive heart failure in China. However, the molecular mechanisms of the cardioprotective effect are still unclear. This study explores the cardioprotective effect and mechanism of QLQX using the hypoxia-reoxygenation (H/R)-induced myocardial injury model.
METHODS:
The main chemical constituents of QLQX were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography-evaporative light-scattering detection. The model of H/R-induced myocardial injury in H9c2 cells was developed to simulate myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. Apoptosis, autophagy, and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) were measured to assess the protective effect of QLQX. Proteins related to autophagy, apoptosis and signalling pathways were detected using Western blotting.
RESULTS:
Apoptosis, autophagy and the excessive production of ROS induced by H/R were significantly reduced after treating the H9c2 cells with QLQX. QLQX treatment at concentrations of 50 and 250 μg/mL caused significant reduction in the levels of LC3II and p62 degradation (P < 0.05), and also suppressed the AMPK/mTOR signalling pathway. Furthermore, the AMPK inhibitor Compound C (at 0.5 μmol/L), and QLQX (250 μg/mL) significantly inhibited H/R-induced autophagy and apoptosis (P < 0.01), while AICAR (an AMPK activator, at 0.5 mmol/L) increased cardiomyocyte apoptosis and autophagy and abolished the anti-apoptotic effect of QLQX. Similar phenomena were also observed on the expressions of apoptotic and autophagic proteins, demonstrating that QLQX reduced the apoptosis and autophagy in the H/R-induced injury model via inhibiting the AMPK/mTOR pathway. Moreover, ROS scavenger, N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC, at 2.5 mmol/L), significantly reduced H/R-triggered cell apoptosis and autophagy (P < 0.01). Meanwhile, NAC treatment down-regulated the ratio of phosphorylation of AMPK/AMPK (P < 0.01), which showed a similar effect to QLQX.
CONCLUSION
QLQX plays a cardioprotective role by alleviating apoptotic and autophagic cell death through inhibition of the ROS/AMPK/mTOR signalling pathway.

4.Therapeutic effects of leaf extract from Cyclocarya paliurus on rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus

AIM To speculate the hypoglycemic mechanism for rats with type 2 diabetes by exploring the therapeutic effects of leaf aqueous extract from Cyclocarya paliurus on liver insulin receptor (InsR) and insulin receptor substrate 2 (IRS-2).METHODS The diabetic rat model was established through intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin and fed with high-fat diet.The moleled rats were equally assigned into the control group and leaf aqueous extract from Cyclocarya paliurus group (extract group).After the test extract was orally administrated for four weeks,body weight,urine output,food intake,water intake and fasting blood-glucose (FBG) were measured,and the levels of serum insulin,InsR and IRS-2 mRNA in liver tissue were investigated in rats.RESULTS Compared with the control group,the extract group showed a reduction in urine output,food intake,water intake,FBG and insulin levels.Meanwhile,the rats' body weights in extract group were presented a trend to increase.The gene expressions of InsR and IRS-2 in liver tissue were up-regulated.Moreover,the insulin sensitivity was improved.CONCLUSION The leaf aqueous extract from Cyclocarya paliurus can reduce FBS,improve insulin sensitivity,which may be associated with the increase of InsR and IRS-2 gene expression in liver tissue.
5.An observation on the long-term efficacy of recombinant hepatitis B vaccines among the newborns

Objective evaluate the long-term efficacy of the recombinant hepatitis B vaccines (HBV) among the newbornswith vaccination at birth. Methods During 1996-1997, 135 newborns were selected from Deqing according to the inclusioncriterion. They were divided into 2 groups: a group of 35 newborns whose mother was HBsAg positive) and a group of 100newbornswhose mother was HBsAg negative. All 135 newborns routinely received 3 doses of yeast -derived hepatitis Bvaccines (i.e. the first dose at birth, the second dose at 1 month old, and the third dose at 6 months old) . Serologicalmarkers to HBV were repeatedly assessed at 3 follow-up stages (i.e. the first follow-up at 12 months, the second follow-upat 2010, the third follow-up at 2012) . Results Participants remained in the study at 3 follow-upstages were 123(91.11%), 95(70.37%) and 46(34.07%) respectively. Participants' serum HBsAg were negative at all 3 follow-upstages. Among participants whose mothers were HBsAg positive, 3 participants were found to be HBcAb positive in 2010,and no new HBcAb positive participants were found in 2012. The rates of HBsAb positive at 3 follow-up stages were 88.89%, 81.48%, and 80.00% respectively. The HBsAb geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) of participants at their 12 monthsold were significantly positively associated with those in 2010 and those in 2012(P<0.05) . Among participants whosemothers were HBsAg negative, no HBcAb positive participants were found. The rates of HBsAb positive at 3 follow-up stageswere 91.18%, 54.41%, and 52.78% respectively. No correlation was found among HBsAb GMCs of participants at 12 monthsold, in 2010 and in 2012. No correlation was found between boost vaccination and the rate of HBsAg positive, afteradjustment of the HBsAg status of their mothers. Conclusion The efficacy of the yeast-derived HBV could sustain for at least13-15 years, and the general population do not need booster immunization. After the 3-dose immunization, the HBsAblevels of the healthy mothers' 12-months-old children were related to those of their adolescence.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship of ABO blood group with the clinicopathological characteristics in patients with gastric cancer and to assess whether the ABO blood group was associated with prognosis.
METHODClinicopathological and follow-up data of 2838 patients with gastric cancer who underwent radical gastrectomy in our department from June 2008 to October 2013 were analyzed retrospectively. The distribution of ABO blood group under different clinicopathological characteristics and the overall 5-year survival of ABO blood group were compared.
RESULTSThere were no significant differences in clinicopathological characteristics among patients with different ABO blood groups (all P>0.05). The 5-year overall survival(OS) rates were 57.3% for patients with blood type A, 54.7% for type B, 57.4% for type O, and 53.5% for type AB. Though there was no significance difference of survival among ABO blood groups(P=0.722), while the subgroup analysis indicated that stage III( patients of blood group Non-AB had a poorer OS compared to those of blood group AB(25.2% vs. 44.7%, P=0.014); smoking patients of blood group Non-AB had a poorer OS compared to those of blood group AB(53.4% vs. 74.9%, P=0.044).
CONCLUSIONNeither clinicopathological characteristics nor overall survival are associated with the ABO blood group, however, stage III( and smoking patients of blood group Non-AB have a poorer OS compared to those of blood group AB.

9.The long-term efficacy of recombinant hepatitis B vaccines for children

Objective To observe long-term efficacy of recombinant hepatitis B vaccines for children received fundamental immunization or booster dose. Methods 493 school students from Deqing county with complete information of immunization history were investigated and their serological markers were detected. 430 students received booster dose vaccines at 3-11 years old and were defined as booster group while the remaining 63 students were defined as fundamental group. Results All vaccines the 493 students received for fundamental immunization were recombinant. Compared with fundamental group(57. 14%),booster group had significantly higher Anti-HBs positive rate of 91. 40%(P<0. 01). And the Anti-HBs positive rate had a high level of 94. 99% when 0-5 years after booster immunization while it declined to 64. 71% after 8-15 years and showed no significant difference compared with fundamental group. Conclusion Anti-HBs level and anti -HBs positive rate can significantly increase for short periods after booster immunization,and may decline considerably for long-term. Immunologic amnesia rate is low when 3 -11 years after fundamental immunization among infants.
10.Hemodynamics-based numerical comparison between two options of modified B-T shunt

Objective To analyze and compare hemodynamic features of two different options for modified B-T shunt (MBTS) surgery, namely end-to-side(ETS) and side-to-side (STS), so as to provide references for clinical treatment of single ventricle heart defect syndrome. MethodsThe real geometric model was reconstructed by medical images obtained from a patient with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS); MBTS surgery was simulated through virtual operations; a lumped parameter model (LPM) was constructed based on physiological data of the patient; the post-operational boundary conditions of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models (namely STS model and ETS model) were predicted based on the LPM; numerical simulation was conducted on two CFD models by using finite volume method. Results Flow details and wall shear stress distributions were all obtained for two models. The mean oscillatory shear index (OSI) of ETS model and STS model in part of pulmonary arteries was 3.058×10-3 and 13.624×10-3, respectively, while the energy loss was 116.5 and 94.8 mW, respectively, and blood flow rate ratios of left pulmonary artery to right pulmonary artery (RRPA/LPA) were 0.8 and 1.72, respectively. Conclusions There were nearly no differences between two CFD models in energy loss, which led to a relatively small impact on the surgery. The STS model had a more balanced pulmonary artery blood perfusion and a smaller mean OSI in part of pulmonary arteries, therefore, the STS model was superior to the ETS model. This study provides an important theoretical support and reference for treating patients with HLHS.
