Aerosol removal using flame-retardant atomized fixatives, as a major means of aerosol control, has achieved remarkable results in the field of nuclear facility decommissioning and decontamination. Traditional atomized fixatives for aerosol removal have deficiencies in high-temperature resistance and flame retardancy, rendering them inadequate for operational scenarios involving high temperatures and flammability encountered during nuclear decommissioning. This paper investigates the current development of flame-retardant atomized fixatives for aerosol removal both domestically and internationally and presents a preliminary exploration of this technology. The experiments showed that atomized fixatives modified with flame-retardant properties not only maintained excellent aerosol capture efficiency, but also exhibited significantly improved flame-retardant performance. This confirmed the technical feasibility of the proposed approach. Finally, suggestions and reflections are proposed for the development of this technology and its application in nuclear facility decommissioning.

Objective To explore the epidemiological characteristics of gouty arthritis in Northwest China from 2023 to 2025, and to formulate preventive intervention measures. Methods By retrospectively analyzing the case data of medical institutions in Northwest China from January 2023 to June 2025 (a total of 8 139 cases), the incidence trend and population distribution characteristics of gouty arthritis in this area were analyzed. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors. Results From 2023 to 2025, the prevalence rate of gouty arthritis in adult residents in Northwest China was 3.74% (304/8 139). Among the sites affected by gouty arthritis, the metatarsophalangeal joint accounted for the highest proportion (P<0.05). From the perspective of age distribution, the prevalence rate was the highest in 40-59 years old group (5.90%), followed by 66-80 years old group (4.21%) and >80 years old group (2.75%). The incidence rate in 40-65 years old group was higher than that in the other age groups (P<0.05). High blood uric acid and creatinine, alcohol drinking, obesity, high purine diet, concurrent chronic kidney disease and metabolic syndrome were risk factors affecting gouty arthritis in Northwest China (P<0.05). Conclusion High blood uric acid level, high creatinine level, alcohol drinking, obesity, high purine diet, concurrent chronic kidney disease and metabolic syndrome are risk factors influencing gouty arthritis in Northwest China. Based on the above factors, this study proposes comprehensive prevention strategies from the individual, community and public health levels to provide a scientific basis for reducing the incidence rate of gouty arthritis.

Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2026;53(8):2194-2209
Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) severs peripheral connections and induces profound reorganization of primary somatosensory (S1) and motor (M1) cortical maps, a dynamic process that critically shapes the extent and quality of functional recovery. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has emerged as a central molecular hub linking the initial peripheral insult to subsequent central plastic changes. This review systematically examines BDNF-mediated cortical remodeling following PNI, with a particular emphasis on its spatiotemporally specific regulatory mechanisms and the therapeutic opportunities they present. Immediately after PNI, deafferented cortical territories undergo rapid functional silencing and, over time, become progressively encroached upon by adjacent intact representations. This maladaptive reorganization—characterized by sensory map fusion and motor compensatory invasion—actively impedes successful reinnervation and optimal recovery. Such phenomena have been consistently documented in both non-human primate models and human fMRI studies, spanning sensory and motor modalities. Motor remapping is also prominently observed in facial nerve injury and chronic nerve compression models, underscoring the universality of these plastic changes. Notably, a range of interventions including regional local anesthesia, auditory-tactile substitution, and guided tactile imagery can effectively mitigate this aberrant remodeling, revealing promising avenues for the therapeutic modulation of cortical plasticity during critical post-injury windows. BDNF coordinates post-PNI cortical remodeling through three mechanistically interconnected pathways. First, BDNF drives dendritic and axonal growth via TrkB receptor signaling: retrogradely transported axonal signaling endosomes integrate CREB-dependent transcriptional programs with mTOR-mediated local protein synthesis to bolster dendritic arborization and axonal elongation, while BDNF-induced Limk1 translation precisely fine-tunes actin cytoskeletal dynamics, thereby stabilizing dendritic spine morphology. Second, BDNF governs GABAergic interneuron maturation and perineuronal net formation through the JNK signaling cascade, thereby acting as a “plasticity brake” that preserves the delicate excitatory/inhibitory balance and constrains indiscriminate, maladaptive rewiring. Third, BDNF robustly potentiates NMDAR-dependent long-term potentiation (LTP) by elevating NMDA channel open probability and increasing synaptic receptor density, thus tightly coupling structural remodeling with functional synaptic strengthening. Concurrently, long-term depression pathways are subject to modulation, with NMDAR antagonism exerting time-dependent, bidirectional effects that vary with the post-injury phase. Superimposed on these mechanisms, the functionally antagonistic actions of proBDNF/p75NTR (favoring pruning and growth cone collapse) and mature BDNF/TrkB (promoting survival and stabilization) add further layers of regulatory complexity, highlighting the absolute necessity for precise spatiotemporal control in any therapeutic strategy. Extending our previous experimental findings, we introduce a “cortical reclamation threshold” model. In this framework, early upregulation of BDNF-TrkB signaling enhances inhibitory tone to restrict cortical encroachment by neighboring intact regions, whereas delayed but precisely timed BDNF delivery following surgical nerve repair actively facilitates the reclamation of the original, deafferented cortical maps by regenerating afferent fibers. Importantly, the common BDNF Val66Met polymorphism may significantly modulate individual thresholds, providing a biologically grounded rationale for patient stratification and personalized timing of intervention. Despite this mechanistic promise, clinical translation faces considerable hurdles. These include inherently poor pharmacokinetics of BDNF, severely limited penetration across the blood-brain barrier, dose-dependent neurotoxicity mediated through the p75NTR receptor, and the overarching dual-edged nature of BDNF signaling, which can simultaneously promote both adaptive and maladaptive plasticity. Emerging delivery platforms——including engineered exosomes, polymeric nanoparticles, cryogel microcarriers, and adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapy——offer potential solutions, but all require rigorous pharmacokinetic, toxicological, and functional validation. Future research priorities should encompass: (1) comprehensive single-cell and spatial transcriptomic mapping to resolve BDNF cellular sources and real-time signaling dynamics across distinct cortical layers and cell types; (2) genotype-stratified dose-response studies to establish safe, effective, and personalized delivery protocols; and (3) large-scale multicenter clinical trials that seamlessly integrate BDNF-targeted interventions with multimodal rehabilitation strategies, such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and mirror therapy, with longitudinal neuroimaging serving as a biomarker for cortical reclamation. By systematically addressing these priorities, we aim to transform BDNF from a critical endogenous regulator into a precisely controllable and titratable therapeutic target, ultimately enabling a paradigm shift from mere structural repair to true functional neural reconstruction following PNI.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) has a distinct circadian rhythmicity in its onset, which is closely related to the waxing and waning of qi and blood in the channel passages of the human body. Grounded in the circadian rhythm theory of "correspondence between heaven and humankind", this paper explores the pathogenic evolution rules of qi-blood disharmony, channel obstruction, interacting as cause and effect with circadian rhythm disorders in CHD. Clinically, CHD can be observed to attack in the early morning, at night, in the afternoon, and at fixed or unfixed circadian intervals. The pathogenesis rhythms at different time nodes can correspondingly reflect the susceptibility tendencies and pathological stress responses of the human body to core pathogeneses such as yang deficiency with cold congelation, yin deficiency with yang floating, qi and yin deficiency, and liver constraint with qi stagnation under specific temporal states. Treatment should be adapted to the season and time, regulating yin and yang in accordance with biological rhythms. It is recommended to regulate qi during the daytime by promoting ascending and dispersing to unblock the channel passages, and select the appropriate timing for administration to harness natural timing. At the Mao (卯) hour, yang ascends while yin descends, and taking medication at this time conforms to the ascending of yang qi. At the Wu (午) hour, the heart meridian is active, and taking medication at this time warms the channel passages and assists heart yang, which can be treated with modified Buzhong Yiqi Decoction (补中益气汤) or Shengyang Yiwei Decoction (升阳益胃汤). At night, blood should be harmonized, when the channel passages are unblocked through nourishing, restraining, and searching, with Lianmei Decoction (连梅汤) combined with Dahuang Zhechong Pill (大黄䗪虫丸). Following the temporal rhythm, the focus is put on the transitional time of day and night and the four seasons to treat disease before it arises, resonating and corresponding with the natural rhythm.

Objective:To propose a functional method for locating the shoulder joint center of rotation aimed at rapid estimation of the upper limb reachable domain envelope, thereby informing ergonomic design and task optimization. Methods:In March 2024, shoulder kinematics during gait were recorded from ten adults using a three-dimensional motion-capture system. Assuming the existence of a point near the glenohumeral joint that maintains a fixed spatial relationship to the humerus and the acromion, we estimated both static and dynamic centers of rotation. Localization accuracy was quantified by the standard deviation of distance residuals to upper-arm markers. Upper-limb joint angles and anthropometric parameters were modeled via regression; combined with maximal joint ranges of motion, these were used to infer the reachable domain envelope. Results:The static center of rotation was located approximately twenty-two millimeters medial to the acromial landmark in the coronal plane and thirty-seven millimeters inferior to it. The standard deviation of the residuals for the distances from the dynamic shoulder joint center of rotation to upper-arm markers averaged 1.02 mm, which was 47.42% lower than that of the static center of rotation and 66.56% lower than that of the acromion. Moreover, the trajectory of this dynamic center showed a strong correlation with upper-limb joint angles ( R2>0.7) . Conclusion:The proposed method enables rapid and accurate estimation of the upper limb reachable domain envelope to support ergonomic design and may help reduce the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

Objective:To use machine learning to predict the efficacy of accelerated corneal collagen cross-linking (A-CXL) surgery, identify prognostic factors, and construct models to predict postoperative disease progression. Methods:A single-center retrospective study was conducted.A total of 82 keratoconus patients (112 eyes) who underwent A-CXL surgery at the West China Hospital of Sichuan University between March and December 2021 were enrolled.Preoperative and follow-up examinations included anterior segment evaluation by slit-lamp microscopy, corneal topography using Pentacam, and corneal biomechanical indices using Corvis ST.Disease progression was defined as an increase in maximum keratometry (Kmax) of ≥1 D from the preoperative level at the last follow-up.Various machine learning algorithms were employed to analyze corneal topography, biomechanical parameters and corneal densitometry values to identify prognostic factors and construct models for predicting postoperative disease progression. This study adhered to the Declaration of Helsinki. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of West China Hospital, Sichuan University (No.2023496).Written informed consent was obtained from each subject. Results:During follow-up, 15.1% (17/112) of the eyes showed progression after A-CXL.The preoperative astigmatism and stress-strain index (SSI) in the progression group were (-5.41±2.72)D and 1.41±0.78, respectively, which were significantly higher than (-3.30±2.54)D and 0.95±0.98 in the non-progression group ( t=2.80, 2.03; both P<0.05).Cox regression analysis identified preoperative astigmatism (hazard ratio [HR]=1.20), SSI (HR=1.10), and anterior corneal densitometry of 2-6 mm (CDA6) (HR=2.10) as significant risk factors for post-A-CXL progression.Among various machine learning models developed and validated, the area under the curve (AUC) values for logistic regression, multilayer perceptron (MLP) model, and random forest (RF) exceeded 0.700.For F1-score, the AUC values for logistic regression, MLP, and RF were 0.870, 0.880, and 0.880, respectively. The network structure of the visualized MLP was a single-layer, 24-neurons neural network with 80% accuracy in predicting whether progression occurred after A-CXL.The clinical nomogram developed in conjunction with astigmatism, SSI, and CDA6 predicted the cumulative probability of progression at 0.5, 1, and 2 years postoperatively based on the sum of the specified values for each variable, and based on the optimal cutoff value, keratoconus corneas could be classified into high-, intermediate-, and low-risk groups, respectively. The time-dependent subject operating characteristic curves of the nomogram showed AUCs of 0.734, 0.685, and 0.935 at 0.5, 1, and 2 years postoperatively, respectively, all of which performed well in predicting progression. Conclusions:Preoperative astigmatism, SSI, and CDA6 are significant risk factors for post-A-CXL progression in keratoconus. The MLP model can accurately predict postoperative disease progression, and the clinical nomogram combining preoperative astigmatism, SSI, and CDA6 can effectively differentiate between low-, medium-, and high-risk postoperative progression outcomes.

Objective:To establish and validate a multimodal model based on radiomics and deep learning for predicting acute pancreatitis (AP) complicated with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).Methods:Patients diagnosed with AP from The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Donghai County People's Hospital and Jintan Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University between January 2017 and December 2023 were enrolled. Based on the diagnosis of ARDS within 1 week after admission, the patients were classified into the ARDS group and the non-ARDS group. Patients in the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University ( n=406) was used as the training set (non-ARDS group n=212 vs ARDS group n=194), while Donghai and Jintan hospitals served as the test set ( n=175; non-ARDS group n=104 vs ARDS group n=71). Clinical data, laboratory tests and the occurrence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) within 24 hours after admission were collected. Scoring systems such as bedside index for severity in acute pancreatitis (BISAP), Ranson score and modified CT severity index (MCTSI) were calculated. Radiomics features were extracted from three-dimensional CT images to develop a radiomics model based on XGBoost algorithm. At the same time, a deep learning model was constructed using deep convolutional networks to extract deep features. Finally, clinical features and the predictions from the aforementioned models were integrated to establish a multimodal model based on XGBoost algorithm. To enhance model visualization, variable importance ranking and local interpretable visualization were used. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the three models and the three scores including BISAP, Ranson and MCTSI were plotted and the area under the curves (AUCs) were calculated to evaluate the prediction performance for ARDS in AP patients, as well as sensitivity and specificity. Results:In the multimodal model for predicting ARDS in AP patients, predictions of the deep learning model and the radiomics model were the most important variables, followed by SIRS, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, albumin, glucose, creatinine, neutrophil, and Ca 2+. In the training set, the multimodal model achieved an AUC of 0.933 for predicting ARDS in AP patients, higher than the radiomics model (0.727), the deep learning model (0.877), MCTSI (0.870), Ranson (0.620) and BISAP (0.898). In the test set, the model's AUC was 0.916 for predicting ARDS in AP patients, higher than the radiomics model (0.660), the deep learning model (0.864), MCTSI (0.851), Ranson (0.609), and BISAP (0.860). Conclusions:Based on clinical structured data, radiomics and deep learning features, the multimodal model could predict the risk of ARDS in AP patients at an early stage, whose performance is better than the single-modal models and the traditional scoring systems.

Silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)are employed as disinfectants due to their extensive antimi-crobial properties, but their biosafety in the livestock industry has not been comprehensively as-sessed.In this study,16 Black-skin Red-crowned chickens aged 32 weeks were randomly divided in-to four groups and sprayed with AgNP solution at the concentration of 0,0.064,0.128 or 0.256 g/L,respectively,every 72 h in their coops for 30 d.The effects of AgNPs as the disinfectant on lung tissue in chicken were investigated through calculation of organ coefficients, observation of lung tissue sections, analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, measurement of inflammatory factors,de-tection of silver residue in lung tissue, and exploration of signaling pathways in pulmonary fibrosis. The results indicated that chickens in the 0.128 and 0.256 g/L AgNPs treatment groups showed the blurred pulmonary lobule boundaries, the destroyed alveolar structure, and the significant in-crease in pulmonary fibrosis. These pathological changes were accompanied by the decrease in lung organ coefficient, the reduced SP-C content, the increased total protein concentration in lavage flu-id,and the elevated LDH and silver content in lung tissue. The levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in the 0.128 and 0.256 g/L AgNPs treatment groups were significantly higher than the control group, which suggested that AgNPs exposure could induce the pulmonary inflammatory responses.High concentrations of AgNPs can trigger pulmonary tissue fibrosis, damaging the structure and func-tions of lungs. The relative mRNA expression levels of NF-κB in all AgNPs treatment groups,TGF-β in the 0.128 g/L AgNPs treatment group, and Smad3 in the 0.128 and 0.256 g/L AgNPs treatment groups were significantly higher than these in the control group, respectively.Spraying chickens with 0.128 or 0.256 g/L AgNPs for disinfection led to pulmonary deposition of AgNPs,causing direct structural and functional damages to the lungs. It could also induce the chronic pul-monary inflammation through the NF-κB pathway and promote the TGF-β/Smad3 pathway to in-crease collagen synthesis, leading to pulmonary fibrosis. Therefore, the application of high concen-trations of AgNPs in livestock farming requires careful consideration of their potential biological safety issues.

To report the first case of congenital ichthyosis with woolly hair in China, and to elucidate its genetic variant profile. A 28-year-old female patient presented with rashes on the trunk and limbs for 28 years. Dermatological examination revealed dry and rough skin over the entire body, with well-defined, polygonal, dark brown, adherent scales densely distributed over the trunk and extremities. No significant abnormalities were observed in the mucous membranes, teeth, or nails. The patient exhibited uniformly distributed, woolly and curly hair with a soft, dry texture and normal density; no significant hair breakage or brittleness was observed, while the eyebrows appeared sparse. Hair microscopy showed irregular axial twisting of hair strands at varying intervals; scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed irregular hair shafts with some segments appearing flat in a belt-like pattern, and magnified SEM images further demonstrated hair cuticle damage on the surface of hair shafts, manifesting as localized upward curling and longitudinal grooves, indicating structural damage to the hair shafts. Whole-exome sequencing identified a homozygous variant c.124dupC in exon 3 of the PRSS8 gene in the proband, resulting in a frameshift mutation (p.Gln42Profs*24) in the PRSS8 protein. According to the guidelines of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics as well as the patient's clinical manifestations, this variant could be preliminarily classified as pathogenic. A diagnosis of syndromic ichthyosis was made. This case represents the first report of syndromic ichthyosis caused by PRSS8 variants in China and the second report in the world, and this condition is proposed to be tentatively named as "ichthyosis-woolly hair syndrome".
