This study proposes a "disease-syndrome-person-symptom" differentiation and treatment model for adolescent depression disorder. Disease differentiation focuses on understanding the developmental and evolutionary characteristics of the disorder. It is proposed that adolescent depression is primarily associated with initial flourishing of kidney qi, insufficiency of the marrow sea, stagnation of liver qi, deficiency of qi and blood, and constraint fire harassing spirit, following a dynamic progression pattern of "constraint-heat-deficiency-depletion". Syndrome differentiation focuses on identifying the underlying pathogenesis at different stages of the disease. During the "constraint" stage, binding constraint of liver qi syndrome and binding constraint of phlegm-qi syndrome are commonly observed. During the "heat" stage, constraint heat harassing the spirit syndrome and phlegm-fire harassing the heart syndrome are frequently encountered. During the "deficiency" stage, non-interaction between the heart and the kidney syndrome, heart-lung yin deficiency syndrome, and deficiency of both the heart and spleen syndrome are common. And during the "depletion" stage, kidney essence depletion and marrow sea emptiness syndrome are predominant. The person-centered approach emphasizes the holistic view of life based on the concept of the unity between humans and nature, as well as the integration of body and mind. It highlights the identification of individual constitution and the treatment of both physical and mental aspects, thereby achieving personalized diagnosis and treatment. The symptom-oriented approach focuses on targeted interventions to rapidly alleviate distressing symptoms and break the vicious cycle of mutual impairment between the body and mind. The "disease-syndrome-person-symptom" differentiation and treatment model aims to provide a systematic, dynamic, and individualized precision framework for the diagnosis and treatment of adolescent depressive disorders with traditional Chinese medicine.
