Cutaneous dermatophyte infections, dermatophytosis, are common worldwide, affecting various age groups and body parts. Despite advancements in antifungal therapies, the prevalence of dermatophytosis continues to increase, posing significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment. This review provides an overview of the prevalence, clinical features, and diagnostic methods for dermatophytosis in Korea. A comprehensive review of domestic reports and research on dermatophytosis in Korea was conducted using data from KoreaMed.This study covers the various clinical presentations, age distributions, seasonal trends, and types of dermatophytes identified in different body areas. Dermatophytosis in Korea have shown changing patterns in terms of prevalence and causative species. Trichophyton rubrum remains the most common causative organism, with varying presentations depending on the site of infection, such as tinea pedis, tinea corporis, tinea capitis, tinea faciei, and onychomycosis. Diagnostic practices largely depend on the potassium hydroxide smear test, which has limited sensitivity, particularly for onychomycosis. Recent trends indicate an increase in the incidence of dermatophytosis among older adults, which may be linked to underlying health conditions and lifestyle changes. Dermatophytosis in Korea exhibit diverse clinical manifestations influenced by factors such as patient age, body site, and seasonal variation. Improved diagnostic methods are needed to enhance the accuracy and guide appropriate treatment, especially with the emergence of antifungal-resistant strains. This review aims to provide a better understanding of the current state of dermatophytosis in Korea and contribute to more effective management and prevention strategies.

Rotator cuff tears are common shoulder injuries, particularly in older adults. Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) is the preferred treatment due to its successful outcomes, but complications like suture knot impingement may arise.Knot impingement, although rare, can lead to subacromial bone erosion and persistent pain. The condition remains under-reported, and direct evidence linking knot impingement to subacromial erosion is scarce. A 63-year-old woman presented with progressively worsening shoulder pain and restricted range of motion, 10 years after undergoing ARCR. Clinical assessment indicated subacromial impingement with positive Neer, Hawkins test results and reduced shoulder mobility. Arthroscopic evaluation revealed suture knots embedded in the subacromial bone, directly causing erosion. This is the first case to confirm through arthroscopy that subacromial bone erosion resulted from knot impingement. This case emphasizes the importance of follow-up and highlights the need to consider alternative suture techniques to avoid complications like knot impingement. Surgeons should be vigilant in minimizing risks associated with suture materials and techniques to improve long-term outcomes for patients undergoing ARCR.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore factors influencing satisfaction with medical services among medically underserved populations at the free medical clinic, providing data to improve free medical services for these populations. Methods: We employed a descriptive correlational study design involving 112 individuals (aged 19 years and older) from medically underserved populations who visited the clinic. Data were collected through face-to-face surveys from September to October 2023, and statistical analyses (t-tests, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression) were used to identify key predictors of satisfaction. Results: Perceived support from healthcare providers emerged as the strongest predictor ofsatisfaction with medical services, demonstrating a significant positive association. While socialsupport was positively correlated with perceived support from healthcare providers, it did not independently predict satisfaction. Conclusion These findings underscore the importance of healthcare provider and social supportin increasing satisfaction with medical services among medically underserved populations.Developing tailored healthcare programs and specialized healthcare provider training are essential strategies to improve healthcare access and outcomes for these vulnerable groups.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the surface characteristics and healing patterns after implantation of implants treated with SLA and those treated with both SLA and femtosecond laser. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 10 male New Zealand white rabbits were used to compare recovery levels between implants treated with SLA (SLA group) and those treated with both SLA and femtosecond laser (SF group). The implants’ surface characteristics were determined through topographic evaluation, element analysis, surface roughness, and wettability evaluation. In total, 4 implants were placed in each rabbit (2 in each tibia), with 20 implants per treatment group. Using the implant stability quotient (ISQ), marginal bone volume, and histological analysis (bone-to-implant contact (BIC), bone volume/tissue volume (BV/TV)), and post implantation outcomes were assessed. Outcome data were analyzed using independent t-tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, and one-way ANOVA (α = 0.05). RESULTS: No significant differences were noted between SLA and SF groups in terms of ISQ, marginal bone volume, BIC, and BV/TV (P > .05). However, significant differences in ISQ were observed within each group over time (P < .05). Furthermore, significant differences were noted in the marginal bone volume of the SF group (P < .05) and the BV/TV of the SLA group between weeks 4 and 6 (P < .05). CONCLUSION Surface treatment via SLA and femtosecond laser is feasible compared with SLA treatment alone in terms of ISQ, marginal bone volume, BIC, and BV/TV. However, further clinical research is warranted.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the extent of intraoral occlusal adjustment required for zirconia crowns designed with a dynamic jaw motion tracking method compared to a conventional approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen patients needing zirconia crown restorations in the anterior or posterior regions participated in this study. Following tooth preparation, dynamic jaw motion tracking records were gathered using a tracking device. These records were imported into computer-aided design software and aligned with scanned upper and lower jaw data to design each crown's occlusal surface. Two crowns were fabricated for each patient: one using motion tracking data and another without it. Crowns were scanned pre- and post-adjustment following standard protocols. The scanned data were analyzed with 3D inspection software to calculate occlusal adjustments in the segmented occlusal area as root mean square values, with a paired t-test used for statistical analysis (α = 0.05). RESULTS: Crowns designed with motion tracking data required significantly less intraoral occlusal adjustment than those designed conventionally (P = .028). CONCLUSION Dynamic jaw motion tracking in crown design reduces the extent of intraoral occlusal adjustment, potentially enhancing clinical efficiency.

Crossbite refers to a condition where there are remaining teeth, but none of the teeth are in occlusal contact, resulting in the loss of vertical support. When posterior vertical stop is lost, it is important to appropriately restore this support and create a harmonious occlusal plane. In this case, the patient had lost posterior support but declined surgical intervention due to a history of osteoporosis and the associated risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). To restore the vertical space required for prosthetic rehabilitation, the vertical dimension was increased. The missing posterior teeth were replaced using removable partial dentures. Cross-mounting was performed, and the metal copings of the surveyed crowns and the framework of the final removable partial denture were 3D printed. After the treatment was completed, the patient expressed satisfaction with both functions and aesthetics. Regular follow-ups were conducted to monitor oral hygiene and occlusal stability.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted from December 13 to 31, 2021, involving 127 nurses. The following statistical analysis was conducted: t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and Hayes Process Macro Model 4 (to test the mediating effect). Results: Nursing practice environment showed a significant positive correlation with nursing performance, retention intention, and nursing professional pride. Nursing practice performance showed a positive correlation with retention intention and nursing professional pride, and retention intention showed a significant positive correlation with nursing professional pride. The mediating effect of nursing professional pride was found in the effect of nurses' nursing practice environment on their retention intention. In addition, the mediating effect of nursing professional pride was found in the effect of nurses' nursing practice performance on their retention intention. Conclusion Through this study, it was confirmed that nursing professional pride is a major A factor affecting retention intention in the hospital. Therefore, in order to increase nurses' retention intention to remain in Hospital, the basis of basic data was presented for strategy development.

Purpose: The incidence of breast cancer in older females is increasing with increased life expectancy. This study analyzed tumor characteristics and oncological outcomes in patients aged ≥ 70 years compared to patients in a younger postmenopausal group, in conjunction with their adherence to treatment guidelines. Methods: Patients aged ≥ 50 years, newly diagnosed with breast cancer, were divided into two age categories: ≥ 70 years and 50–69 years. All patients underwent curative surgery at Korea University Guro Hospital between January 2009 and December 2019. Clinical data on tumor subtype, histopathological grade, and clinical stage, along with treatment details were collected. Disease-free survival, distant recurrence-free survival, and breast cancer-specific survival rates were determined. Results: Of 1,199 patients, 166 (13.8%) were ≥ 70 years at the time of surgery. The diseasefree, distant recurrence-free, and breast cancer-specific survival rates were significantly lower in patients aged ≥ 70 years (p < 0.05). In a subgroup analysis, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive tumors were the only subtype with a statistically significant difference in survival outcomes, and adherence to the guidelines was strongly linked to a better prognosis. Conclusion Patients aged ≥ 70 years had lower disease-free, distant recurrence-free, and breast cancer-specific survival rates compared to younger postmenopausal patients aged 50–69 years. With the continuous increase in life expectancy and advances in healthcare, it is critical to optimize treatment strategies for older patients with breast cancer to improve survival outcomes and enhance their quality of life.
