AIM: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and changing trends of myopia among children and adolescents in Bijie from 2021 to 2025, and to provide scientific evidence for formulating regional myopia prevention and control strategies.METHODS:This was a longitudinal cross-sectional study. Stratified cluster sampling method was used to select students from 48 primary schools, 25 middle schools, and 8 high schools from urban and rural districts and counties of Bijie. From 2021 to 2025, annual examinations were performed, including uncorrected visual acuity, corrected visual acuity, corneal curvature, refractive error, axial length, and fundus examination. Questionnaires were also administered to collect information on visual health-related influencing factors. Myopia was defined as spherical equivalent refraction(SE)≤-0.50 D under non-cycloplegic autorefraction. The multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the myopia status and its influencing factors among children and adolescents.RESULTS: From 2021 to 2025, the age- and sex-standardized myopia prevalence rates among children and adolescents in Bijie were 42.37%, 44.57%, 47.32%, 49.98%, and 52.91%, respectively, showing a significant upward trend year by year(P<0.001). The overall standardized myopia prevalence rate was 47.61%. The myopia rate increased with higher educational stage, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.001). The myopia rates in girls were higher than those in boys over the 5 y, with statistically significant differences(P<0.001). Multivariable logistic regression analysis identified gender(female vs male: OR=1.17, 95%CI: 1.15-1.19), school stage(junior high school vs primary school: OR=2.14, 95%CI: 2.09-2.19; senior high school vs primary school: OR=3.60, 95%CI: 3.53-3.68), daily outdoor activity time <2 h(OR=3.25, 95%CI: 2.98-3.54), both parents with myopia(OR=2.87, 95%CI: 2.63-3.13), daily near work time ≥4 h(OR=2.56, 95%CI: 2.35-2.79), electronic screen use ≥2 h/d(OR=2.18, 95%CI: 2.01-2.37), incorrect reading and writing posture(OR=3.94, 95%CI: 3.87-4.02), residence in a karst landform region(OR=1.32, 95%CI: 1.18-1.48), and absence of professional equipment in school vision screening(OR=1.27, 95%CI: 1.15-1.41)as risk factors for myopia(all P<0.001).CONCLUSION: From 2021 to 2025, the myopia rate among children and adolescents in Bijie shows an increasing trend, indicating a severe situation for myopia prevention and control, with tendencies toward younger age of onset and higher myopia. It is necessary to establish a prevention and control system led by the government, with multi-departmental collaboration and school-family linkage, and to carry out targeted health education and intervention measures.

ObjectiveTo conduct comprehensive assessment of internal and external cadmium exposure and health risks for Shanghai residents. MethodsCadmium levels in food samples were calculated by employing two dietary exposure assessment methods, total diet study (TDS) and food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), to estimate the daily dietary cadmium exposure of Shanghai residents. The provisional tolerable monthly intake (PTMI) of cadmium set by joint food and agriculture organization/WHO expert committee on food additives (JECFA) was applied to evaluate the health risk. Differences in dietary and urinary cadmium were compared by rank-sum test among different regions, age, gender, smoking status, and BMI groups, and the association between internal and external cadmium exposure was investigated by correlation analysis. ResultsThe mean value of urinary cadmium for 1 300 respondents was 0.542 μg·L-1. Urinary cadmium was higher in the population in central urban and urban-rural fringe areas than in the suburban area, higher in the older age group than in the younger age group, and higher in the smoking group than in the non-smoking group (all P<0.01). The two assessment methods showed that the mean values of daily dietary cadmium exposure for Shanghai residents were 0.306 and 0.090 μg·kg-1, with 3.69% and 0.85% of Shanghai residents exceeding the PTMI, respectively. Correlation analyses showed that dietary exposure to cadmium based on the FFQ method was positively correlated with the urinary cadmium level when smoking status, age, gender, and BMI were adjusted. ConclusionDietary exposure to cadmium of Shanghai residents is mainly derived from vegetables, aquatic products, cereals and potatoes, and is overall at a low-risk level. Dietary exposure assessment based on FFQ and risk monitoring data can effectively estimate long-term cadmium exposure.

Objective:To explore the behavioral intention of nurses for pain management after abdominal surgery based on the planned behavior theory. Methods:According to the framework of planned behavior theory, an interview outline was developed. Using the purposive sampling method, a total of 11 General Surgical Department nurses from the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from July to November 2022 were selected as the interview subjects for semi-structured interviews to understand their behavioral intentions regarding postoperative pain management in abdominal surgery. Colaizzi 7-step analysis was used to analyze the original data. Two researchers repeatedly compared, verified, analyzed and summarized the interview data. When different opinions were generated, the group members discussed and decided together to ultimately determine the code and theme. Results:Based on the three dimensions of behavioral attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control in the theoretical framework of planned behavior, three themes and seven sub-themes were extracted, such as behavioral attitude (positive attitude, negative attitude), pressure sources (group pressure, leadership pressure, patient and family pressure), subjective perception and behavior (imprisonment of comfort zone, insufficient support from external resources) .Conclusions:Most nurses hold a positive attitude towards pain management behavior after abdominal surgery, and the behavioral intention of postoperative pain management is affected by colleagues, leaders, patients and their families. At the same time, there are also obstacles such as insufficient personal ability and insufficient support from external resources.
4.Correlation between mental health problems with bullying behaviors among primary and middle school students
Chinese Journal of School Health 2022;43(2):225-228
Objective:
To analyze epidemiological characteristics of campus bullying among primary and middle school students in central China to explore its relation with mental health problems, and to provide a reference for the campus bullying prevention.
Methods:
Stratified cluster sampling method was used to select primary and middle school 10 581 students from Anyang, Nanyang and Xinxiang cities of Henan Province, Middle School Students Mental Health Scale and the Self designed Scale of Adolescent Bullying Behavior were used to analyze the relationship between mental health problems with campus bullying behavior.
Results:
The total report rate of bullying penetrator was 12.5% among students in the three cities. Among primary and middle school students with mental health problems such as hostility, interpersonal stress, academic pressure and emotional imbalance, the detection rate of bullying behavior was 24.2%, 20.3%, 19.4% and 20.1%, respectively. The results of multivariate analysis showed that hostility symptoms ( OR =3.78, 95% CI =1.71-8.32), interpersonal stress ( OR =3.50, 95% CI = 1.62 -7.57), academic pressure ( OR = 1.62 , 95% CI =1.21-2.16) and emotional imbalance ( OR =2.80, 95% CI =1.41-5.56) showed a significant impact on campus bullying ( P <0.05).
Conclusion
Mental health problems of primary and middle school students are closely related to the occurrence of bullying behavior. It is necessary to pay attention to the mental health education of bullies and intervene bullying behaviors from the source.
