Myocardial infarction (MI) and osteoporosis (OP), as two prevalent metabolic diseases with high morbidity and mortality rates, are respectively characterized by cardiovascular system dysfunction and bone homeostasis imbalance, collectively posing significant global public health challenges. While clinically often considered as independent diseases, recent studies have revealed shared pathological mechanisms between the two. This study initiated its exploration from the traditional Chinese medicine concept of the "heart-bone" axis, systematically analyzing the correlation between MI and OP from perspectives including hemodynamics, neuroendocrinology, calcium homeostasis, inflammation and vascular injury, as well as hormone levels. By discussing the pathological mechanisms of "heart disease affecting the bones and bone disease affecting the heart", the study also elucidated advancements in both Western and traditional Chinese medicine treatments. The goal is to provide novel insights and methodologies for the prevention and treatment of "heart-bone comorbidities", thereby facilitating comprehensive management of cardiovascular and skeletal diseases.

3.Effectiveness of diabetes education via mobile application (t-manis) in improving glycemic control among patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Introduction:
Current education on diabetes self-management is time-consuming as it is conducted face-to-face. This study aimed to
evaluate the effectiveness of diabetes education via mobile application on hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c).
Methodology:
This was a double-blinded randomized controlled study conducted in the Department of Endocrinology, Hospital Pulau
Pinang and Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun. Participants were stratified randomized according to HbA1c to intervention
group (using T-Manis) and control group. The primary objective was to assess the difference in HbA1c between the groups.
Secondary objectives were to assess the difference in body weight, hospitalization related to diabetes, diabetes knowledge
between groups and usability and satisfaction of T-Manis. Laboratory investigations and questionnaires were conducted
at baseline, 4 months and 8 months.
Results:
A total of 112 participants were randomized into two groups each with 56 participants. Mean age was 51 years with similar
diabetes duration of 16 years in both groups. Participants comprised of 61.6% females with ethnic distribution of 49.1%
Malay, 30.4% Chinese, 19.6% Indian and 0.9% Siamese. Baseline HbA1c levels were comparable between intervention
and control groups (10.04% versus 9.91%; mean difference 0.13%; 95% CI −0.56 to 0.81; p = 0.718). At 4 months, HbA1c of
the intervention group demonstrated a significant reduction compared to the control group (8.93% versus 9.80%; mean
difference −0.86; 95% CI −1.59 to −0.14; p = 0.02). Sustained reduction of HbA1c in the intervention group was observed
at 8 months (mean difference −1.01; 95% CI −1.85 to −0.16; p = 0.02). Baseline body weight was 77 kg, with no betweengroup differences in body weight, hospitalization related to diabetes and diabetes knowledge scores, although diabetes
knowledge scores improved at 4 months in the intervention group. 89.3% of participants reported satisfaction with T-Manis
Conclusion
The T-Manis mobile application aided in significantly improving glycemic control with high user satisfaction, supporting
its feasibility as an adjunct to standard diabetes care.

4.Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Rare but Devastating Complication of Diabetic Ketoacidosis

Introduction:
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a common complication
of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Neurological complications of DKA are rare in adults. We report a case of young
lady with T1DM who presented with severe DKA and
complicated with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).
Case:
A 19-year-old female was diagnosed with T1DM following
an admission for DKA 2 months earlier. Her hemoglobin
A1c was 17.2%, and autoimmune markers showed positive
anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (anti-GAD) antibodies (71
IU/mL) with negative anti-insulinoma-associated antigen
2 (anti-IA2) and islet cell antibodies. Her C-peptide level
was low at 69 pmol/L. She was discharged with basal bolus
insulin analogues, but she defaulted on her medications.
She presented to the hospital 2 months later with a history
of epigastric pain, vomiting, and breathlessness for 2 days,
and was then found unconscious at home. There was no
history of trauma. She was intubated for a poor Glasgow
Coma Scale (E1V1M1). Blood results showed severe DKA
with glucose 25 mmol/L, blood gas pH 6.572, bicarbonate 2.6
mmol/L, and ketone more than 8.8 mmol/L. She was started
on insulin infusion and fluid resuscitation. DKA resolved
after 24 hours. Computed tomography (CT) of the brain
showed SAH in the right frontal and left frontotemporal
regions. CT angiography of the brain reported no evidence
of an intracranial aneurysm. She was extubated on day
4 of admission. Subsequent cerebral digital subtraction
angiography was unremarkable. The patient achieved
complete neurological recovery on follow-up.
Conclusion
This case highlights that severe DKA may rarely be
associated with spontaneous SAH, which increases
morbidity and mortality. Proposed mechanisms include
vascular injury, oxidative stress from severe ketoacidosis,
and endothelial dysfunction related to inflammatory
mediators. Clinicians should have a high suspicion and
consider neuroimaging in DKA patients with unexplained
reduced consciousness or atypical neurological findings.
5.Progress on the hazards and control of ship-borne vector organisms

In the context of burgeoning economic trade, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of ships travelling between domestic and international ports. Inbound and outbound cargo ships, cruise liners, ferries, and other types of vessels have emerged as critical vehicles for the dispersal of vector organisms and the spread of infectious disease agents. Public health concerns associated with these vessels represent a significant threat to human welfare. In this paper, we comprehensively review the hazards posed by vector organisms on ships, the latest advances in prevention and control strategies, and proposes appropriate countermeasures. The aim is to provide effective guidance for the prevention and control of public health security issues caused by ship-borne vector organisms.
6.Relationship between partial activated thromboplastin time, lactate dehydrogenase-1, neutrophils and rhabdomyolysis associated acute kidney injury in exertional heat stroke patients

Objective:To investigate the relationship between partial activated thromboplastin time (APTT), lactate dehydrogenase-1 (LDH-1), neutrophil (NEU) and rhabdomyolysis (RM) -associated acute kidney injury (AKI) in exertional heat stroke (EHS) patients.Methods:The valid data of 261 EHS patients hospitalized in the General Hospital of the Southern Theater Command of the PLA from May 2008 to November 2019 were respectively included as the study objects, including 147 patients with RM. Basic data and peripheral blood indexes of the patients were collected, and the patients with RM were divided into non-AKI group and AKI group according to whether they had AKI. Binary Logistic regression was used to analyze the independent influencing factors of RM combined with AKI, and ROC curve was used to analyze the predictive value of relevant indicators on RM concurrent AKI.Results:Among 147 patients with RM, 57 (38.8%) had AKI. Using whether RM was combined with AKI as the dependent variable, variables showing statistical significance ( P<0.05) in univariate analysis were included as independent variables. Model 1 was established through binary logistic regression analysis, while Model 2 was derived using forward selection. The results of Model 2 revealed that NEU ( OR=1.196, 95% CI: 1.082-1.322, P<0.05), LDH-1 ( OR=1.015, 95% CI: 1.005-1.024, P<0.05), and APTT ( OR=1.013, 95% CI: 1.004-1.022, P<0.05) were independent risk factors for RM patients complicated with AKI ( all P<0.05). The AIC value for Model 1 was 166.914, while that for Model 2 was 150.276, indicating that Model 2 outperformed Model 1. The predictive value of NEU, LDH-1 combined with APTT for RM complicated by AKI: The area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.830 (95% CI: 0.764-0.897). When the critical value is ≥0.387, it indicates RM complicated by AKI, with a specificity of 0.719 and a sensitivity of 0.811. Conclusions:NEU, LDH-1 and APTT are closely related to AKI in RM, and the combined detection of NEU, LDH-1 and APTT is helpful for early diagnosis of AKI in RM.
7.Ultrasound-based radiogenomics: status, applications, and future direction

Radiogenomics, an extension of radiomics, explores the relationship between imaging features and underlying gene expression patterns. This field is instrumental in providing reliable imaging surrogates, thus potentially representing an alternative to genetic testing. The rapidly growing area of radiogenomics that utilizes ultrasound (US) imaging seeks to elucidate the connections between US image characteristics and genomic data. In this review, the authors outline the radiogenomics workflow and summarize the applications of US-based radiogenomics. These include the prediction of gene variations, molecular subtypes, and other biological characteristics, as well as the exploration of the relationships between US phenotypes and cancer gene profiles. Although the field faces various challenges, US-based radiogenomics offers promising prospects and avenues for future research.
8.Determination of radionuclide levels in food and assessment of effective dose in Beijing, China

Objective To investigate the levels of radionuclides in food in Beijing, China, and assess the committed effective dose to local residents from food intake. Methods From 2021 to 2022, a total of 65 food samples across 7 categories were collected in Beijing. The activity concentrations of radionuclides, including 137Cs, 210Pb, 238U, 228Ra, 226Ra, 40K, 90Sr, 210Po, 3H and 14C, were measured using gamma spectrometry and radiochemical methods. By combining the monitoring results with dietary consumption data of Beijing residents and the internal dose coefficients for Chinese reference adult phantom, the committed effective dose was estimated. Results The levels of radionuclides in food in Beijing were within the normal background range, consistent with related surveys in China and abroad, with activity concentrations below national standard limits. No significant differences were found in the activity concentrations of 137Cs, 238U, 228Ra, 226Ra and 40K between food samples collected from key areas and those from control areas (P > 0.05). The committed effective doses calculated according to internal dose coefficients for Chinese reference adult male phantom and GB 18871-2002 were 0.26 mSv and 0.19 mSv, respectively. Based on the Chinese reference adult male phantom, the majority of the committed effective dose was attributed to 210Pb (45.1%), 228Ra (37.1%), 210Po (12.3%), and 226Ra (4.7%). Conclusion The levels of radionuclides in food in Beijing fluctuated within the background range, resulting in a low radiation dose burden to the population.
9.Comparison of Three Drowning-related Plankton Testing Methods in Drowning Diagnosis

Objective To compare the application effects of plankton multiplex polymerase chain reac-tion-capillary electrophoresis(PCR-CE),SYBR Green Ⅰ real-time quantitative PCR(qPCR)and microwave digestion-vacuum filtration-automated scanning electron microscopy(MD-VF-Auto SEM)in the diagnosis of drowning.Methods Lung,liver and kidney tissues from 212 drowned corpses and 30 non-drowned corpses were examined respectively by the three drowning-related plankton testing methods,and the detection rates of plankton in each tissue by three methods were compared.Results In drowned corpses,the total detection rates of PCR-CE,qPCR,and MD-VF-Auto SEM were 93.9%,96.2%,and 95.3%,respectively,with no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).The detection rate of lung tissue by MD-VF-Auto SEM(100%)was higher than those of PCR-CE and qPCR(P<0.05),and there was no significant difference in the detection rates of the three methods in liver or kidney tissues(P>0.05).In non-drowning corpses,a small number of diatoms(less than 10 cells/10 g)were detected by MD-VF-Auto SEM method,only in liver and kidney tissues,while the other two methods yielded negative results for all tissues.Conclusion All three methods have good efficacy in the examination of drowned corpses.The MD-VF-Auto SEM method directly observes diatom morpho-logical characteristics through scanning electron microscopy,and the qualitative and quantitative analy-ses are intuitive and accurate.It has great advantages in the examination of difficult degradation samples.The PCR-CE method and qPCR method have a low sample demand(0.5 g),are easy to operate and have short detection time(4-7 h).They are easy to be applied in the grassroots depart-ments and are suitable for the rapid determination of drowned corpses in routin cases.The combina-tion of the two DNA methods with the MD-VF-Auto SEM method can increase the detection rate of plankton,ensuring the reliability of examination results.This combined use is of significant importance in the application of drowning diagnosis.
10.Impact of altitude on NIH-CPSI scores in patients with chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome

Objective:To analyze the effect of altitude on NIH-CPSI score in patients with chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome(CP/CPPS)Methods:Clinical data and the results of NIH-CPSI Questionnaire of the 321 patients with CP/CPPS at different altitudes were collected from March 2021 to March 2022.And the influence of altitudes on NIH-CPSI score of CP/CPPS was analyzed.Result:The NIH-CPSI score of patients living at an altitude of 4 300 m was significantly higher than that of patients living at an altitude of 1 500 m and 2 200 m.The CP/CPPS patients who lived in the higher altitude had more severe symptoms of pain and urination as well as lower scores of life quality(P<0.05).Conclusion:NIH-CPSI score increased significantly with higher alti-tude,indicating more severe symptoms and decreased quality of life in CP/CPPS patients.These findings highlight the need for man-agement strategies for specific heights in patients with CP/CPPS.
