ObjectiveTo investigate and analyze an outbreak of rotavirus infectious diarrhea in a prison in Chongqing Municipality, to provide a basis for adult rotavirus surveillance and prevention, and to explore the public health problems in special settings. MethodsA retrospective survey was conducted to collect and analyze data on individual cases with diarrheal disease on-site. The clinical characteristics, as well as the temporal, spatial and geographical distribution patterns of the epidemic were described. Multi-pathogen detection tests were conducted both on diarrhea cases and environmental samples, with viral genotyping performed on positive samples. A case-control analysis was performed to identify the causes of the outbreak, and an SEIR model was adopted to predict the outbreak trend and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. ResultsA total of 65 cases were found among the inmates, with an attack rate of 2.03%. The predominant clinical manifestations included diarrhea (89.23%), watery stool (73.85%), and dehydration (18.46%). The epidemic curve indicated a “human-to-human” transmission pattern, with an average incubation period of 5‒6 days. The attack rates among chefs in the main canteen (80.00%, 8/10) and caterers (28.33%, 17/60) were significantly higher than those of other inmates （P<0.05）. Multi-pathogen polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing detected positive for group A rotavirus, with the viral genotyping identified as G9P [8] strain. Factors such as unprotected "bare-handed" food distribution among cases with diarrhea (OR=9.512, 95%CI: 4.261‒21.234) and close contact with diarrhea cases (OR=3.656, 95%CI: 1.719‒7.778) were the possible cause of the outbreak. The SEIR model (r₀=5, α=0.3, β₁=0.08, β₂=0.04) was constructed using prison inmates as susceptible population, aiming at fitting the initial transmission trend of the outbreak, and the epidemic rate declined rapidly after intervention measures were implemented (r_t≈0). ConclusionThis rare rotavirus infection diarrhea outbreak among adults in confined settings suggests that the construction of public health prevention and control systems in prison may be overlooked. Cross infection during meal processing and distribution in the canteens of such settings is likely to be the cause of the outbreak. Given the potential neglect of public heath system construction in special settings, it is imperative to enhance the surveillance and monitoring of rotavirus and other intestinal multi-pathogens among adults, as well as the construction of public health prevention and control systems in these special settings.

ObjectiveTo systematically review the association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease （NAFLD） and depression， and to provide a basis for synergistic management in clinical practice. MethodsThis study was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines， with the PROSPERO registration number of CRD42023482013. PubMed， Embase， the Cochrane Library， Web of Science， CNKI， Wanfang Data， VIP， and CBM were searched for articles on the association between NAFLD and depression published up to November 1， 2024. The articles were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria， and related data were extracted. RevMan 5.3 was used to perform the Meta-analysis. ResultsA total of 18 studies were included， involving 396 793 participants. Among these studies， 12 discussed the influence of NAFLD on depression， involving 224 269 participants， among whom there were 75 574 patients with NAFLD. The Meta-analysis showed that NAFLD was significantly associated with the risk of depression （odds ratio ［OR］=1.21， 95% confidence interval ［CI］： 1.12 — 1.30， P0.001）. Six studies examined the influence of depression on NAFLD， involving 172 524 participants， among whom there were 29 368 patients with depression. The meta-analysis showed that depression caused a significant increase in the risk of NAFLD （OR=1.13， 95%CI： 1.05 — 1.22， P=0.001）. ConclusionThere is a significant bidirectional association between NAFLD and depression. It is recommended to perform the screening for depression and enhance mental health monitoring in patients with NAFLD， and metabolic function assessment and exercise intervention should be performed for patients with depression.

Objective： Varicocele (VC) induces male infertility by mediating changes in the testicular microenvironment, in which testicular hypoxia and high-pressure are important pathological conditions. This study aims to compare the mouse spermatogenesis (GC-2spd) cells and Sertoli (TM4) cells of mouse testis after hypoxic modeling and hypoxic and high-pressure combined modeling, and to explore the feasibility of establishing a hypoxic and high-pressure combined cell model. Methods： On the basis of cell hypoxia induced by CoCl2, the complex model of testicular cell hypoxia and high pressure was constructed by changing the osmotic pressure of GC-2 and TM4 cell medium with a high concentration of NaCl solution. After selecting the intervention concentration of CoCl2 by MTT test and detecting the expression level of HIF-1α for the determination of the optimal osmotic pressure conditions of the cell model, the cells were divided into normal group, hypoxia model group and composite model group. And the levels of OS, programmed cell death, inflammatory factors, and the expression levels of pyroptosis-related proteins were compared between the normal group and the groups with different modeling methods. Results： The optimal intervention concentration of CoCl2 in GC-2 and TM4 cells was 150 and 250μmol/L, respectively, and the expression of HIF-1α was the highest in both cells under osmotic pressure of 500 mOsmol/kg (P<0.05). Compared with the normal group, the SOD levels of GC-2 and TM4 cells decreased (all P<0.05), CAT level decreased (all P<0.05), and MDA level increased (all P<0.01), and the OS level of GC-2 and TM4 cells was more obvious than that of the hypoxia model group (all P<0.05). Compared with the normal group, apoptosis occurred in GC-2 and TM4 cells after composite modeling (all P<0.05). Compared with the normal group, the mRNA expressions of IL-1β, IL-18, TNF-α and COX-2 in GC-2 and TM4 cells significantly increased (P<0.01) and higher than those in hypoxia model group (P<0.05) and induced pyroptosis (P<0.01). The expression level of GSDMD increased (P<0.05). Conclusion： The cell model with hypoxia and high pressure combined modeling can not only induce oxidative stress and apoptosis of cells better than that with hypoxia alone, but also further cause inflammatory response damage and pyroptosis, which simulates the changes of testis microenvironment mediated by hypoxia and high pressure combined conditions in VC. This cell model can be used for studying the pathogenesis of VC-associated male infertility, evaluating drug efficacy, and exploring pharmacological mechanisms.

This consensus will introduce the characteristics of fillers used in the surgical cavities of domestic nasal surgery patients based on relevant literature and expert opinions. It will also provide recommendations for the selection of cavity fillers for different nasal diseases, with chronic sinusitis as a representative example.

Ubiquitin-specific protease 1 (USP1) is one of the deubiquitinating enzymes which has received increasing attention in cancer research. USP1 is overexpressed in many types of cancer cells, and has been found to control tumorigenesis and progression by regulating various proteins associated with tumors, such as SIK2, GSK-3β, and Bcl-2. Knockdown or pharmacological inhibition of USP1 can effectively suppress tumors and is also expected to address the issues of cisplatin and poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitor resistance. This review describes the structure and function of USP1 and the relationship between USP1 targets and tumors and systematically summarizes the structure-activity relationships of small molecule USP1 inhibitors disclosed from 2013 to 2023. Finally, this review discusses the challenges and opportunities in developing small molecule USP1 inhibitors.

Objective:To investigate the concern about pollen broadcasting in Chinese population from multiple dimensions and to understand the information about allergic rhinitis (AR) in China by analyzing related factors.Methods:From March 1 to September 30, 2022, a large-scale multi-center cross-sectional survey was conducted based on the Questionnaire Star platform in 21 Chinese hospitals. A total of 7 056 subjects from 7 regions in China: Northeast, North, East, Central, South, Southwest, and Northwest China were included. Basic characteristics (including social demographic characteristics and disease characteristics of AR patients), concern about pollen broadcasting, the willingness of pollen-induced AR (PiAR) patients to receive pollen broadcasting, and the treatment satisfaction rate of AR patients were collected. The chi-square test, multivariate linear regression model, and Logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the concern about pollen broadcasting in the Chinese population and related factors from multiple dimensions.Results:Among 7 056 subjects, 23.02% were concerned about pollen broadcasting. Among 3 176 self-reported AR and 1 019 PiAR patients, 25.60% and 39.16% were concerned about pollen broadcasting, respectively, which was higher than that of non-AR or non-PiAR subjects ( χ2 value was 21.74 and 175.11, respectively, both P<0.001). Among AR patients, the proportion of spring and autumn allergen-positive patients concerned about pollen broadcasting was higher than that in perennial allergen-positive patients ( χ2 value was 20.90 and 19.51, respectively, both P<0.001). The proportion of AR patients with asthma, sinusitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases was higher than those without complications ( χ2 value was 50.83, 21.97, 56.78, 7.62, respectively, all P<0.05). The proportion of AR patients in North China who could find pollen broadcasting locally was 31.01%, significantly higher than those in other regions (all P<0.05). Multivariate linear regression model analysis showed that among PiAR patients, those with higher per capita household income and higher AR disease cognition levels had been concerned about pollen broadcasting in the past, and those complicated with allergic conjunctivitis had stronger intention to receive pollen broadcasting (B value was 0.24, 0.13, 0.66, 0.47, respectively, all P<0.05). The higher the disease cognition level of PiAR patients, the stronger their willingness to actively participate in treatment ( R2=0.72, P<0.001). Only 18.89% of AR patients felt satisfied with the treatment effect. Logistic regression analysis showed that in AR patients, the treatment satisfaction rate was significantly higher among those concerned about pollen broadcasting compared to those who were not ( OR=1.83, P<0.001). Conclusions:Currently, the dissemination of pollen broadcasting in China is hindered by various factors such as disease cognition level. The treatment satisfaction among AR patients remains unsatisfactory.

Objective:To study the relationship between adult fluoride exposure and grip strength in rural areas of China with fluorosis, as well as the roles of basal metabolic rate (BMR) and body fat percentage (BFP) in the association between fluoride exposure and grip strength.Methods:From April to May 2017, a cluster sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey, physical examination, and biological sample collection on residents aged 18 - 60 in Tongxu County, Kaifeng City, Henan Province (epidemic areas of drinking-water-borne fluorosis). A total of 1 168 subjects were included in the study, including 427 males and 741 females. The fluoride ion selective electrode method and the picric acid method were used to determine the concentrations of urine fluoride and urine creatinine, and the adjusted urine fluoride concentration (CUF) was calculated. BMR and BFP were measured by a bioelectrical impendence method, and the grip strength was measured by a Jamar grip dynamometer. The relationship between CUF, BMR, BFP and grip strength were analyzed using a generalized linear model regression. The mediation effect model was used to assess the mediating effect of BMR and BFP on the association between CUF and grip strength.Results:Female grip strength decreased by 0.28 kg ( P = 0.043) for every 1.00 mg/L increment in CUF. No similar association was found between the two in males ( P = 0.744). Regardless of gender stratification, BMR was positively correlated with grip strength ( P < 0.001). For every 1.00% increase in BFP, female grip strength decreased by 0.18 kg ( P = 0.043). The mediation effect model analysis results showed that the mediation effect ratios of BMR and BFP in the association between CUF and grip strength in female were 65.1% ( P < 0.001) and 8.4% ( P = 0.111), respectively. Conclusion:Fluoride exposure is associated with changes in female grip strength, and BMR changes play a partial mediating role in the association between fluoride exposure and female grip strength.

Aiming at the non-stationarity and temporal characteristics of variable-length electrocardiogram(ECG)signals,an arrhythmia identification algorithm is proposed based on continuous wavelet transform and higher-order statistics.Considering the varying number of data points for each sample in variable-length ECG signals,the RR interval interpolation method is employed for data preprocessing,and the signal is decomposed into different time-frequency components using continuous wavelet transform,which enables the network to better extract both temporal and frequency features from the ECG signals.Regarding the issue of insufficient utilization of temporal information,a temporal mining module is introduced based on higher-order statistics and long short-term memory network to capture and learn long-term dependencies in the ECG signals,thereby facilitating the identification and understanding of specific arrhythmia categories.Extensive experiments conducted on the publicly available MIT-BIH ECG database validate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD） is a common disease in clinical practice. It is associated with obvious exposure to toxic particles or gases and has become the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. The pathogenesis of COPD is complex， and the oxidative stress involved in COPD plays a crucial role in the pathological process of the disease. Patients with COPD usually have high levels of oxidative stress in the lungs， which will affect the whole body for a long time， causing a variety of complications and accelerating the development of the disease. On the one hand， oxidative stress can directly damage the airway and lung tissue. On the other hand， it also drives other pathological mechanisms to jointly promote the development of disease， such as participating in inflammatory reactions and protease/anti-protease imbalance， promoting mucus secretion， accelerating cellular senescence， causing autoimmunity， and involving in genetic regulatory pathways. At present， western medicine treatment is mostly based on conventional drug treatment， and antioxidant-targeted oxidative stress is adopted， but there are still some challenges in efficacy and safety. Traditional Chinese medicine has a long history of preventing and treating COPD. In particular， Chinese herbal medicine formulas have great potential to interfere with the oxidative stress of COPD. Whether it is the modified classical traditional Chinese medicine or the new formulation developed by modern doctors， the research results reflect the multi-target and multi-channel advantages of traditional Chinese medicine treatment， and their efficacy and safety are gradually verified. This paper reviewed the literature in recent years， starting with the basic and clinical research on the intervention of traditional Chinese herbal medicine formulas on oxidative stress of COPD， so as to provide further ideas for related research on the prevention and treatment of oxidative stress of COPD by traditional Chinese medicine.

Objective To explore the relationship between peripheral blood lymphocytes and disease progression in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)in central China.Methods A total of 133 ALS patients diagnosed at Tongji Hospital,Tongji Medical College,Huazhong University of Science and Technology were evaluated for disease progression,and the includ-ed patients were divided into fast progression group and slow progression group.Peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets were de-termined and compared between the two groups.Logistic regression was used to analyze the association between the statistically different lymphocyte subgroups and the rate of disease progression.Results The proportion of CD3+CD19-T lymphocytes in the slow progression group was lower than that of the fast progression group(P＜0.05).However,the NK cell count,NK cell proportion,and the proportion of CD28+helper T cells(CD28+Th cells)were higher than those of the fast progression group(all P＜0.05).In the logistic regression analysis,an increase in NK cell count(OR=0.992,P＜0.05)and an increase in the propor-tion of CD28+Th cells(OR=0.895,P＜0.05)were protective factors for the progression of ALS.Conclusion The characteris-tics of peripheral lymphocytes differed between patients with slow and fast progression.Abnormalities in the innate immune sys-tem may be involved in the progression of ALS.
