Objective:To explore the current status of presenteeism among ICU nurses and its correlation with resilience-related practice environment.Methods:Convenience sampling was adopted to select 434 ICU nurses from Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University in October 2022 as study subjects. An online questionnaire was conducted using the General Information Questionnaire, Chinese version of the Standford Presenteeism Scale-6 (SPS-6), and Nurse Resilience-related Practice Environment Factor Assessment Scale. Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression analysis were used to explore the relationship between ICU nurses' resilience-related practice environment and presenteeism.Results:Among ICU nurses, the total score on the Nurse Resilience-related Practice Environment Factor Assessment Scale was (122.71±26.14) and the SPS-6 score was (16.11±4.66). Presenteeism was negatively correlated with total scores on the Nurse Resilience-related Practice Environment Factor Assessment Scale and scores on career support and development, practice support and development, and personal support and development ( r=-0.494, -0.471, -0.444, and -0.476; P<0.001). Regression analysis showed that resilience-related practice environment negatively predicted presenteeism in nurses ( P<0.001) . Conclusions:ICU nurses are at a high level of presenteeism, and total scores on the Nurse Resilience-related Practice Environment Factor Assessment Scale are negatively correlated with presenteeism. Nursing administrators should emphasize the psychological state of ICU nurses and improve the resilience-related practice environment in ICUs, thereby reducing the incidence of presenteeism among ICU nurses.

Objective:To develop postoperative care plans based on intervention diagram for young and middle-aged postoperative glioma patients, and validate their effectiveness.Methods:A convenience sample of 68 young and middle-aged glioma patients who underwent surgery at Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, between September 2023 and April 2024 was recruited. Patients were randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the control group (34 cases each) using a random number table. The control group received routine nursing care, while the intervention group received additional care based on the intervention diagram program. Self-perceived burden scores, psychological distress scores, and quality of life scores were compared between the two groups before the intervention and after one month.Results:Prior to the intervention, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of total or dimensional scores of self-perceived burden ( P>0.05). After the intervention, the intervention group showed lower scores in all dimensions and total scores of self-perceived burden compared to the control group, with statistically significant differences ( P<0.05). Similarly, no significant differences were found between the two groups in psychological distress and quality of life scores before the intervention ( P>0.05) ; however, after the intervention, the intervention group demonstrated lower psychological distress and higher quality of life scores than the control group, with statistically significant differences ( P<0.05) . Conclusions:The intervention diagram-based program effectively reduces self-perceived burden and psychological distress, and enhances quality of life in young and middle-aged postoperative glioma patients.

Objective:To systematically evaluate the effect of mobile phone APP in self-management of asthma patients through comprehensive and systematic retrieval of relevant research at home and abroad, so as to provide evidence-based basis for asthma health management.Methods:We retrieved PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, China Biomedical Literature Service System, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) , VIP, WanFang Data, and manually searched unpublished literature to collect the randomized controlled trial (RCT) related to the self-management of asthma patients using mobile phone APP published from January 1, 2000 to January 1, 2022. Two researchers independently screened, evaluated literature and extracted data according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. RevMan 5.3 was used to analyze the data.Results:A total of 10 articles were included, including 6 in English and 4 in Chinese, and 990 patients were included, including 494 in the test group and 496 in the control group. Meta-analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups in the number of emergency visits and forced expiratory volume in one second ( P<0.05) . Conclusions:In the self-management of asthma patients, the use of mobile phone APP can improve the lung function of asthma patients and the consumption of medical resources to a certain extent compared with conventional intervention, but the role of other aspects such as asthma control and quality of life still needs to be further verified.

COVID-19 pandemic aggravated the global public health system, which is already overwhelmed by the increasing statistics of comorbidities and burden due to obesity. The number of individuals with obesity and obesity-associated diseases are rising in many regions that could attribute to the growing obesogenic environment and the lockdown implemented to curb COVID-19. This review focuses on the aspects of the obesity epidemic, chronic inflammatory effects of obesity, positive outcomes of obesity interventions and the worsening effects observed in obese COVID-19 patients. The chronic inflammatory effects of obesity are apparent by the increase of pro-inflammatory signals by immune cells in the adipose tissue and reactive species populations. The reduction of antioxidants exacerbates the effects of oxidative stress on genomic and tissue levels. The public must be made aware of the importance of practising a healthier lifestyle, even more now as we are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Studies have shown that parents and peers are among the dominant factors that contribute to smoking initiation among non-smoking adolescents. The paucity of this information in Malaysia warrants a longitudinal study to determine the actual factors associated smoking initiation. The study aims to address the gaps in our knowledge on the factors that associated with smoking initiation among non-smoking school-going adolescents. We carried out a longitudinal study among non-smoking secondary school-going adolescents in Kota Tinggi district, Johor. A representative sample of 1682 was selected via multi-stage sampling and respondents were followed-up for a period of one year. A pre-validated questionnaire was used to collect data from the selected respondents and multivariable logistic regression was employed to determine the factors associated with smoking initiation among non-smoking school-going adolescents. Approximately 1 in 10 non-smoking school-going adolescents-initiated smoking at the end of follow-up. Having peers and a father who smokes were significantly associated with smoking in univariate analysis, similarly relationship was also observed in multivariable analysis between parents who smoked with smoking initiation after the effect of other independent variables were controlled (Adjusted relative risk: 1.81, 95% CI 1.06-2.95). The study revealed that parental influence was more dominant than peer influence with regards to smoking initiation. Therefore, intervention programmes should involve parents/guardians to enhance their chances of success and reduce the incidence of smoking among non-smoking school-going adolescents.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of body mass index (BMI) on postoperative short-term prognosis and survival rate of gastric cancer patients.

METHODSClinical and follow-up date of 153 gastric cancer cases undergoing radical operation in our hospital from January to June 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. According to BMI, patients were divided into low group (BMI<18.5, 23 cases), normal group (18.5≤BMI<25.0, 95 cases) and high group (BMI≥25.0, 35 cases). Clinicopathological features and outcomes were compared the among three groups.

RESULTSAmong three groups, the differences in operation time, intraoperative blood loss, number of lymph node retrieved, postoperative hospital stay, lymph node metastasis rate, tumor staging and postoperative complication morbidity were not statistically significant (all P>0.05). Preoperative hemoglobin in the low group was significantly lower as compared to normal and high groups [(106.1±13.8) g/L vs. 113.5±5.2) g/L and (123.5±8.7) g/L, F=3.265, P=0.041], and so was the preoperative albumin [(38.7±2.5) g/L vs. (41.3±0.8) g/L and (43.5±1.4) g/L, F=8.516, P=0.000]. The ratio of gastric cardiac cancer in the low group was significantly lower as compared to the normal and high groups[34.8%(8/23) vs. 68.4%(65/95) and 62.9%(22/35), χ(2)=8.913, P=0.012]. Five-year survival rate of the low, normal and high groups were 43.5%, 50.5% and 65.7% respectively(P=0.189). Subgroup analysis showed that the 5-year survival rate of patients with gastric cardiac cancer in the low group was significantly lower as compared to those in the high group (25.0% vs. 84.6%, P=0.004).

CONCLUSIONSBMI dose not generally play a role in short-term outcomes and long-term survival of the gastric cancer patients. Nutritional improvement and body weight maintenance may be beneficial to low BMI patients, especially those with gastric cardiac cancer.

Edaravone, a synthetic-free radical scavenger, has been reported to reduce ischemia-reperfusion-induced renal injury by improving tubular cell function, and lowering serum creatinine and renal vascular resistance. The present study investigated the effect of edaravone in diabetes mellitus-induced nephropathy in rats. A single administration of streptozotocin (STZ, 55 mg/kg, i.p.) was employed to induce diabetes mellitus in rats. The STZ-administered diabetic rats were allowed for 10 weeks to develop nephropathy. Mean body weight, lipid alteration, renal functional and histopathology were analysed. Diabetic rats developed nephropathy as evidenced by a significant increase in serum creatinine and urea, and marked renal histopathological abnormalities like glomerulosclerosis and tubular cell degeneration. The kidney weight to body weight ratio was increased. Moreover, diabetic rats showed lipid alteration as evidenced by a signifi cant increase in serum triglycerides and decrease in serum high-density lipoproteins. Edaravone (10 mg/kg, i.p., last 4-weeks) treatment markedly prevented the development of nephropathy in diabetic rats by reducing serum creatinine and urea and preventing renal structural abnormalities. In addition, its treatment, without significantly altering the elevated glucose level in diabetic rats, prevented diabetes mellitus-induced lipid alteration by reducing serum triglycerides and increasing serum high-density lipoproteins. Interestingly, the renoprotective effect of edaravone was comparable to that of lisinopril (5 mg/kg, p.o, 4 weeks, standard drug). Edaravone prevented renal structural and functional abnormalities and lipid alteration associated with experimental diabetes mellitus. Edaravone has a potential to prevent nephropathy without showing an anti-diabetic action, implicating its direct renoprotection in diabetic rats.

Objective To explore the clinical manifestations,diagnosed main points,laparoscopic trestment strategy of ectopic appendicitis.Methods The 19 clinical data of ectopic appendicitis,from April 2011 to April 2015 in our hosipital,were retrospective analysised,and we sum up the clinical manifestation,diagnosis and treatment,laparoscopic exploration indications and the technique of laparoscopic appendectomy.Laparoscopy exploration and laparoscopic appendectomy were made on all patients under general anesthesia by tracheal cannula.Results Of 19 patients,16 cases by ultrasonic examination get correct diagnosis before operation,of which the ultrasound diagnosis rate is 92.63％,3 limitations of acute peritonitis patients were preoperative misdiagno~s,they were the right kidney stones,acute cholecystitis and the right side of the annex inflammation;there were 2 patients converted to open operation,and the transfer rate is 10.53％.The blood loss of the operation is about 5-20 mL.They were ambulant after 9 hours,in full flow diet after 12 hours,and the average hospitalization time is 4 days.One patient,no other long-term complications were found postoperatively follow-up of 12 to 18 months,were poke holes in infection,and the complications of laparoscopic surgery is 5.27％.Conclusions Ectopic acute appendicitis has no specific clinical manifestation,and is easy to misdiagnosis.In the auxiliary examination,ultrasound is the first choice for the diagnosis of ectopic appendictis.Laparoscopy exploration and laparoscopic appendectomy are the ideal treatments of emergency treatment of ectopic appendicitis,and are worth of clinic application.
