Xiao Xumingtang in The Catalogue of Famous Ancient Classics (The First Batch) issued by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine is derived from the Important Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold for Emergency (Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang) written by SUN Si-miao in the Tang dynasty. The present study systematically explored the origin, development, historical evolution, and clinical application of Xiao Xumingtang. As revealed by the results, Xiao Xumingtang as well as its analogues are primary prescriptions indicated for apoplexy before the Tang and Song dynasties and serve as the benchmark for the treatment of apoplexy. After the Song dynasty, due to the changes in the understanding of the pathogenesis of apoplexy and the limitations of the understanding of Xiao Xumingtang, its clinical application to apoplexy gradually decreased. In modern times, it has been re-recognized and applied, during which its clinical applications have undergone great changes. Its clinical applications are extensive, involving a variety of diseases related to the brain and nervous systems, such as stroke and its sequelae, peripheral facial paralysis, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, and other diseases related to the motor nervous system. Its primary indications are stroke and its sequelae, followed by peripheral facial paralysis. Other new indications are gradually found. This study is expected to provide references for the clinical application of Xiao Xumingtang and the transformation of new drugs.

Journal of Experimental Hematology 2020;28(3):808-814
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the expression level of miR-181b in CD19+ B lymphocytes of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), to analyze the relationship between its expression and the prognosis of CLL patients, and to predict the potential target gene of miR-181b in CLL by using bioinformatics.
METHODS:
Eight-four patients with CLL treated in People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from June 2013 to June 2018 were selected. and 20 healthy people were selected as control group. RNA was extracted from CD19+B lymphocytes of peripheral blood by magnetic bead sorting, the expression level of miR-181b was detected, and it's expression differences in different IPI groups were analyzed. The correlation between the expression level of miR-181b and PFS of CLL patients also was analyzed. miR-181b target genes were predicted by online database and literatures, and gene annotation analysis and relevant signal pathway analysis were performed for candidate target genes.
RESULTS:
The expression level of miR-181b in CLL patients was significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.01); The expression level of miR-181b in the low-risk group was higher than that in high-risk group and extremely high-risk group (P<0.05), but there was no statistical difference between low-risk group and medium-risk group (P=1.00). The expression level of miR-181b in medium-risk group was higher than that in high-risk group and extremely high-risk group (P<0.05), but there was no difference between high-risk group and extremely high-risk group (P=1.00). ROC curve results showed that the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.792 (P<0.01).When the expression level of miR-181b was at the threshold value of 0.279, it showed a better sensitivity (62.9%) and specificity (91.8%). Survival analysis results suggested that compared with the high expression group, the miR-181b low expression group had poor PFS (log rank: P=0.047). Prediction of miR-181b by using the starBase, targetscan and picTar database and its combination with literature reports indicated that CARD11, ZFP36L1, RUNX1, NR4A3, ATP1B1, PUM1 and PLAG1 related with blood diseases, and up-regulated CARD11 and ZFP36L1 participated in lymphoid tumor formation by promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting cell aging.
CONCLUSION
The expression level of miR-181b in CLL group are significantly lower than that in the controls group, and the low expression of miR-181b relates with poor prognosis of CLL patients. Through bioinformatics prediction and combined with literature reports, it is speculated that CARD11 and ZFP36L1 as target genes of miR-181b may be participated in the occurrence and development of CLL. Further experiments are needed to verify this result.

Objective This study aimed to investigate the correlation of the preoperative peripheral blood lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) with the prognosis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data on 147 cases of LSCC treated by surgical resection in our hospital between January 2008 and December 2017. According to the optimal cut-off value of preoperative LMR in the ROC curve analysis, we divided the patients into a high-LMR and a low-LMR group, analyzed the relationship between LMR and the clinicopathological features, and assessed its influence on the overall survival of the patients. Results The optimal cut-off value of preoperative LMR was 3.24. Of the total number of patients, 81 were found with an LMR ≥ 3.24 (the high-LMR group) and the other 66 with an LMR < 3.24 preoperatively (the high-LMR group). The 1-year, 3-year and 5-year overall survival rates were significantly higher in the high-LMR (98.76%, 92.59% and 85.18%) than in the low-LMR group (87.88%, 69.70% and 60.60%) (

OBJECTIVE To investigate the underlyingmechanism on the association of red blood cell and gut microbiota in rats induced by High-Fat Diet(HFD).METHODS A total of 36 male Sprague-Dawley rats (180±20g) were randomly divided into two groups. The control group (n=10) was given a normal chow diet(10% calories of fat),and the High-fat diet group(n=26)was given a HFD(60% calo-ries of fat).We recorded body weight, length and detected serum glucose, serum lipids and insulin ev-ery two weeks. The fresh arterial blood was collected during the experiments and blood gases were measured immediately (Radiometer Medical ApS, Denmark).Thehematocrit (Hct) and partial pressure of oxygen(pO2)were detected by the sensor cassette, following themanufacturer′s instructions. The de-tection method was conductivity measurements and current method, respectively. The feces from ce-cum were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing(Illumina Miseq,USA). RESULTS According to the insulin resistance(IR),body weight and body length, the model group was divided into two small groups.(1)IR group,in which IR,body weight and body length were higher than the control group (P<0.05). (2) un-IR group, body weight and body length were higher than the control group (P<0.05),but the IR was not significantly different. In addition, the levels of hematocrit(Hct),checktotalhe-moglobin (ctHb) and check total blood oxygen content (ctO2) showed significantly increased in the IR group when compared with the control group (P<0.05), however, the pO2was not statistically signifi-cant. Furthermore, we identified that the genus Lactobacillus was moderate positive correlation with Hct,ctHb and ctO2(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the relative abundance of the Lactoba-cillus was significantly lower in IR group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The high-fat diet induced rats′local tissue hypoxia under the red blood cell increasing, oxygen partial pressure constant and the reduction of Lactobacillus′abundance might be caused by aerobic oxidation and glycolysis inhibition in the meantime.

Growth year is one of the important factors for the quality of Polygala tenufolia. In this study, primary metabolites and secondary metabolites were compared in 1, 2 and 3 years old P. tenufolia cultivated in Shaanxi Heyang. The samples were subjected to ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC)-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (Q-TOF MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis, and the obtained data were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) and other statistical analysis methods. In addition, content and correlation of different metabolites were also calculated. The results showed no significance between main component contents in 2 year-old and 3 year-old P. Tenufolia, but 1 year-old was statistically different. The contents of primary metabolites, such as fructose, sucrose, and choline increased as time goes on, while glycine and raffinose decreased. The contents of secondary metabolites, such as onjisaponin Fg, polygalasaponin XXVIII, polygalasaponin XXXII increased, while polygalaxanthone III and parts of oligosaccharide multi-ester including tenuifoliose A, tenuifoliose C, tenuifoliose C2 and tenuifoliose H decreased with the extension of the growth years. Growth years has important impact on the quality of P. tenuifolia and the existing growing years of commodity P. tenuifolia have its scientific evidence. This study supplied a new method for the quality evaluation of Chinese medicinal materials.

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2013;33(1):76-80
OBJECTIVETo study the expressions of gastric mucosal proteins in chronic gastritis (CG) rats of Pi-Wei damp-heat syndrome (PWDHS), to investigate the pathogenesis correlated to CG rats of PWDHS, to observe the differential expressions of gastric mucosal proteins in CG rats of PWDHS, and to investigate the mechanisms of Sanren Decoction (SD) for treating CG rats of PWDHS.
METHODSTotally 36 male SD rats were adaptable fed for 3 days and randomly divided into 3 groups, i.e., the normal control group, the CG of PWDHS rat model group (abbreviated as the model group), and the SD treatment group, 12 in each group. The CG of PWDHS rat model was prepared by composite factors. The gastric mucosal protein was separated using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis technique, and stained by Coomassie brilliant blue. The protein spots expressed differently were analyzed by PDquest 8.0 software. The protein spots expressed differently was identified by MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS.
RESULTSThe protein spots were 1 025 +/- 3 9, 994 +/- 51, 1 087 +/- 33 in the normal control group, the model group, and the SD treatment group respectively detected from two-dimensional gel electrophoresis profiles. Compared with the normal control group, there were 74 protein spots differentially expressed in the model group, 30 spots up-regulated and 44 spots down-regulated. Compared with the model group, there were 75 protein spots differentially expressed in the SD treatment group, 49 spots up-regulated and 26 spots down-regulated. Five protein spots differentially expressed were successfully identified, i.e., heat shock protein 72 (HSP72), heat shock protein 60 (HSP60), protein disulfide-isomerase (PDI), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), and unnamed protein.
CONCLUSIONSThe pathogenesis of CG of PWDHS may be correlated to energy metabolism disturbance and stress. The mechanisms of SD for treating it may possibly adjust differential expressions of gastric mucosal proteins.

To reveal the epidemiological and pathogenic characteristics of Hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) in Hainan province in 2010, epidemiology data of HFMD reporting cases were analyzed, clinical specimens from 1346 HFMD cases were collected for enterovirus (EV) detection. Viral isolation was performed for EV nucleic acid positive samples. Complete VP1 encoding region of EV71 were sequenced and analyzed with Sequencher (version 5.0) and MEGA software (version 5.0). The epidemiology data showed that all 18 prefectures in Hainan had reporting cases during 2010, with higher incidence in the northeast; and the children less than 4 years old accounted for the majority of the suffered; the epidemic reached peak during September to October, which was different from other Provinces in China. The laboratory results indicated that EV71 and CA16 were identified as the major causative pathogens in Hainan in 2010, however, EV71 infection was absolutely dominant among severe and fatal cases. In addition, some HFMD cases were identified associated with other serotypes of EV infections. Molecular epidemiological analysis showed that all the EV71 strains belonged to C4a evolutionary branch, which is the dominant evolutionary branch in China in recent years, and at least three transmission chains existed. This study has an important information in clarifying the characteristics of epidemics and transmission of HFMD in Hainan, and to provide the guidance for HFMD prevention and control in the future.

Chinese Medical Journal 2013;126(24):4780-4785
BACKGROUNDC-reactive protein (CRP) gene +1059 G/C polymorphism has been reported to be associated with coronary heart disease (CHD) risk, but the results remain inconclusive. This meta-analysis was therefore conducted to clarify these controversies.
METHODSA comprehensive search was conducted to identify all case control studies on the association between CRP gene +1059 G/C polymorphism and CHD risk. All the related studies were further strictly selected according to the inclusion criteria. Meta-analysis was performed with STATA 10.1 (StataCorp, USA). The association was assessed by odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI); both Begg's funnel plot and Egger's regression test were used to assess the publication bias.
RESULTSThis meta-analysis on a total of 13 studies comprising 6316 CHD cases and 4467 controls showed no significant association between CRP gene +1059 G/C polymorphism and CHD risk in the overall study (for C/C+C/G vs. G/G: OR = 1.01, 95% CI = 0.81-1.25, P = 0.96; for C/C vs. C/G+G/G: OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 0.77-1.77, P = 0.47; for C/C vs. G/G: OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 0.77-1.77, P = 0.47; for C allele vs. G allele: OR = 1.01, 95% CI = 0.81-1.24, P = 0.96). However, in the subgroup analysis by ethnicity, the results showed significant association between CRP gene +1059 G/C polymorphism and CHD risk among Caucasians (for C/C vs. G/G: OR = 2.54, 95% CI = 1.13-5.72, P = 0.02; C/C vs. C/G+G/G: OR = 2.45, 95% CI = 1.09-5.51, P = 0.03), but not among Asians and Africans (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONCRP gene +1059 G/C polymorphism may be associated with increased CHD risk among Caucasians and more evidences need to validate the conclusion.
