1.Compatibility and comfort assessment of school desks and chairs in three cities in China
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(3):321-324
Objective:
To understand the subjective and objective comfort evaluations of students from different age groups on desks and chairs, so as to provide reference for standardized allocation and use of desks and chairs.
Methods:
From January to April 2024, a total of 2 446 students were selected from 26 schools in 13 districts (counties/cities) in Shanghai, Tianjin, and Wuxi from Jiangsu Province by using cluster random method, including students in kindergartens, primary schools, junior high schools, senior high schools, colleges and universities. Standardized procedures were used to measure the height and weight of participants, and the matching desks and chairs models were selected according to the height. The subjective comfort of students on matching desks and chairs was investigated, and their objective comfort was evaluated by using a self designed questionnaire. The χ 2 test was used to analyze the differences of subjective perception and objective evaluation in comfort between different types of desks and chairs.
Results:
About 84.1% of the students subjectively thought that large desks and small chairs were very comfortable or relatively comfortable, followed by large desks and chairs (75.7%), and the proportion of small desks and chairs was the lowest among the three types (46.2%), and the difference was statistically significant ( χ 2=722.46, P <0.01). The reporting rates of primary school, junior high school and senior high school students who subjectively considered large desks and chairs to be very comfortable/relatively comfortable were higher than that of other types of desks and chairs, and the differences were statistically significant ( χ 2=297.49, 252.82, 343.67, P <0.01). However, there was no significant difference in the subjective comfort evaluation of different types of desks and chairs among kindergarten children ( χ 2=3.21, P >0.05), and 66.3% of the students in colleges and universities felt very comfortable/relatively comfortable when they used the matching standard desks and chairs. The objective evaluation results of the comfort for the three types of desks and chairs were consistent with the subjective evaluation, but the proportions of the objective evaluation as very comfortable/relatively comfortable were higher than that of the subjective evaluation ( χ 2=20.76- 813.47, P <0.01).
Conclusions
Large desks and chairs, as well as large desks with small chairs are perceived comfortable, while small desks and chairs are perceived less comfortable. It is recommended to match the large desks and chairs or large desks and small chairs that are suitable for them according to the "standard", to promote physical and mental health of students.
2.Comfort assessment of school desks and chairs ergonomics among students with different body types
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(3):325-329
Objective:
To investigate the differences in the comfort of desks and chairs furniture among students with different body types according to the standard, so as to provide a reference for guiding students with overweight and obesity to choose the correct study furniture and revising the standards.
Methods:
From January to April 2024, 2 443 students from 26 schools in 13 districts (counties/cities) in Shanghai, Tianjin, and Jiangsu Province were selected by the cluster random sampling method to conduct physical examination. The subjective and objective evaluations of the comfort of height matched desks and chairs were investigated. The students were divided into non overweight, overweight, and obesity groups according to relevant criteria, and stratified analysis was performed. The χ 2 test was used to analyze differences in the comfort evaluations of desks and chairs among students with different body types.
Results:
Among the 2 443 students surveyed, 16.7% and 12.6% were respectively classified as overweight and obese. All students assigned the highest comfort ratings to large desks and small chairs (84.1%), and consistency was observed between students subjective and objective evaluations. The reporting rate of samll desks and chairs of obesity students subjective evaluation was lower (36.8%) than that of overweight and non overweight/obesity students (52.1%, 48.0%) ( χ 2=14.63, P <0.01). The overweight and obese group of primary school students had a worse evaluation of the comfort of large desks and chairs and small desks and chairs than those of the non overweight and obese groups( χ 2=15.78, 7.63, P <0.05). Among high school students, the overweight and obese group had worse evaluation of the comfort of large desks and chairs, as well as large desks and small chairs, than those of the non-overweight and obese groups( χ 2=9.62, 11.77, P <0.05). The objective evaluations revealed low compliance ratings on the posture of the thighs and calves for naturally forming an angle greater than 90° (55.6%), and headroom height under the table (50.3%) with small desks and chairs ( χ 2=94.05, 166.47, P <0.05).
Conclusions
Compared with non overweight/obese students, students with overweight and obese students report poor comfort evaluations of height matched desks and chairs. Revision of the standard should consider the body types of students, and evaluations of the comfort of desks and chairs furniture by students with overweight and obesity should be improved.

Objective:
The aging demographic landscape worldwide portends a heightened prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders. Foremost among these is Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the foremost cause of dementia in older adults. The shortage of efficacious therapies and early diagnostic indicators underscores the imperative to identify non-invasive biomarkers for early detection and disease monitoring. Recently, blood metabolites have emerged as promising candidates for AD biomarkers.
Methods:
Leveraging nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy on plasma specimens, we conducted a cross-sectional study encompassing 35 AD patients and 35 age-matched healthy controls. Cognitive function was evaluated using the mini-mental state examination in all participants, followed by peripheral blood sample collection. We utilized univariate and multivariate analyses to perform targeted lipidomic profiling via NMR spectroscopy.
Results:
Our study revealed significant differences in the expression profiles of low-density lipoprotein-associated subfractions in females and high-density lipoprotein-associated subfractions in males between AD patients and healthy controls (all p<0.05). However, there was no significant metabolite overlap between males and females. Furthermore, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis demonstrated that the combination of lipid metabolites had good diagnostic values (all area under the curve>0.70; p<0.05).
Conclusion
Our findings suggest that the blood plasma samples using NMR hold promise in distinguishing between AD patients and healthy controls, with significant clinical implications for advancing AD diagnostic methodologies.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of propofol on doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in rats. Methods:Thirty SPF healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 2-3 months, weighing 200-220 g, were divided into 3 groups ( n=10 each) by the random number table method: control group (C group), doxorubicin group (D group) and propofol group (P group). The rat cardiotoxicity model was prepared by intraperitoneal injection of doxorubicin 2.5 mg/kg, and the administered dose was adjusted according to the daily body weight once every other day for a total of 6 times in D and P groups. Propofol 50 mg/kg was intraperitoneally injected after successful preparation of the cardiotoxicity model in P group. Blood samples were taken from the heart of the anesthetized rats at 2 h after propofol injection for determination of the concentrations of serum cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Then the rats were sacrificed, and the myocardial tissues were obtained for microscopic examination of the pathological changes (with a light microscope) and for determination of the mitochondrial volume fraction, surface-area density, surface-area-to-volume ratio, mean mitochondrial area and the number density (by transmission electron microscopy). Results:Compared with C group, the concentrations of cTnI and CK-MB were significantly increased, and the mitochondrial volume fraction, surface-area density, and the number density were decreased in D and P groups ( P<0.05). Compared with D group, the concentrations of cTnI and CK-MB were significantly decreased, and the mitochondrial volume fraction, surface-area density, and the number density were increased in P group ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the surface-area-to-volume ratio and mean mitochondrial area among the 3 groups ( P>0.05). Conclusions:Propofol can attenuate doxorubicin-induced myocardial toxicity in rats.

Chinese Journal of Hepatology 2024;32(4):346-353
Objective:To explore the clinical features of fatty liver disease (FLD) from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MASLD), so as to elucidate its clinical application value under three renames. Methods:Patients who were hospitalized in the Department of Hepatology, Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated to Xinjiang Medical University, from January 2020 to September 2023 and met the diagnosis of NAFLD, metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), or MASLD were selected as the research subjects. The clinical indicators differences among the three groups of patients were compared, mainly including general information (age, gender, body mass index, past history, etc.), serological indicators (liver and kidney function, blood lipids, blood sugar, coagulation function, etc.), non-invasive liver fibrosis indicators, fat attenuation parameters, etc. Measurement data were analyzed using ANOVA and the rank sum test, while count data were analyzed using the χ2 test. Results:NAFLD, MAFLD, and MASLD prevalence rates among 536 cases were 64.0%, 93.7%, and 100%, respectively. 318 cases (59.3%) met the three fatty liver names at the same time among them. Male population proportions in NAFLD, MAFLD, and MASLD were 30.9%, 55.8%, and 53.9%, respectively. The alcohol consumption history proportion was 0, 36.7%, and 36.0%, respectively. The smoking history proportion was 7.0%, 31.9%, and 30.6%, respectively. The body mass index was (27.66 ± 3.97), (28.33 ± 3.63), and (27.90 ± 3.89) kg/m 2, respectively. The γ-glutamyltransferase levels were 26.6 (18.0, 47.0) U/L, 31.0 (20.0, 53.0) U/L, and 30.8 (19.8, 30.8) U/L, respectively. The high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were 1.07 (0.90, 1.23) mmol/L, 1.02 (0.86, 1.19) mmol/L, and 1.03 (0.87,1.21) mmol/L, respectively. Sequentially measured uric acid was (322.98 ± 84.51) μmol/L, (346.57 ± 89.49) μmol/L, and (344.89 ±89.67) μmol/L, respectively. Sequentially measured creatinine was 69.6 (62.9, 79.0) μmol/L, 73.0 (65.0, 83.5) μmol/L, and 73.0 (65.0, 83.0) μmol/L, respectively. The sequential analysis of obesity proportion was 74.3%, 81.7%, and 76.5%, respectively, with statistically significant differences ( P<0.05). Conclusion:Compared with the NAFLD population, the MAFLD and MASLD populations were predominantly male, obese, and had a history of smoking and drinking. The levels of γ-glutamyltransferase, uric acid, and creatinine were slightly higher, while the levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were lower. MASLD appeared in NAFLD and MAFLD on the basis of inheritance and progression, emphasizing once again the important role of metabolic factors in a fatty liver.
9.Current status of regional school health work in Tianjin during 2019-2023
Chinese Journal of School Health 2024;45(5):620-625
Objective:
To explore the current status and progress of regional school health work to provide policy reference for school health improvement.
Methods:
Survey data on school health work in Tianjin from 2019, 2021 and 2023 was used. School health staff allocation and expenditure of the health administrative department, CDC and education department, as well as the annual implementation of health education, prevention and control of common diseases and infectious diseases, sports activities and food nutrition in primary and secondary schools were analyzed. Statistical analysis was conducted using KruskalWallis test, Chisquare test, and Fishers exact test.
Results:
The number of school health staff in the health commissions and education departments from 2019, 2021 and 2023 was relatively stable. Parttime staffs were often employed by health commissions while fulltime staffs were mainly employed by education departments. The number of school health staff at CDCs increased gradually (H=12.65, P<0.01). School health expenditure of administrative departments and schools in 2021 and 2023 increased significantly compared with that in 2019 (H=22.28, 23.75, P<0.05). More than 95% of schools set up clinics or health care rooms, and about 97% of schools had school health technicians or health teachers. More than 90% of schools had health education courses over 4 hours per semester. The rate of mental health education increased by year (86.87%, 89.91%, 96.30%, Z=2.40,P<0.05). Lack of courses regarded safety emergency and risk avoidance, growth and development, and adolescent health education. The provision rate of psychological counseling services (89.00%, 97.25%, 100.00%) and psychological problem prevention and control (56.12%, 71.56%, 81.48%) also increased by year (Z=3.83, 3.96, P<0.01). The implementation rates of prevention and control of poor vision, dental caries, overweight and obesity were all higher than 80%, and the prevention and control rate of abnormal spinal curvature showed an increasing trend (38.78%, 77.06%, 72.22%, Z=4.87, P<0.01). More than 90% of schools met the standard for physical education class hours, and the proportion of schools conducting at least 30 minutes of recess physical activities every day increased year by year (65.00%, 80.73%, 85.98%, Z=3.59, P<0.01). All schools did not have shops.
Conclusions
School health work in Tianjin is effective and constantly developing. It is necessary to continue to increase the investment of human resources and expenditure in school health, explore the approaches of cooccurrence and prevention of common diseases, and improve the school sports and nutrition environment.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2024;45(5):626-629
Objective:
To investigate the comorbidity of myopia and scoliosis among primary and secondary school students in Tianjin, and to analyze the school environment risk factors contributing to these health issues, so as to provide a scientific basis for development effective prevention measures.
Methods:
A total of 41 654 primary and secondary school students from 16 districts of Tianjin were selected by stratified random cluster sampling from September to October 2023 to screen for myopia and scoliosis. Univariate analysis was performed to examine the data, followed by a bivariate multivariate Logistic regression model and cumulative effect analysis to explore the influencing factors of their comorbidity.
Results:
In 2023, the prevalence of comorbidity of screening positive myopia and scoliosis among primary and secondary school students in Tianjin was 2.65%. The prevalence was higher in suburban areas (3.26%) compared to urban areas (2.02%), higher among females (3.81%) compared to males (1.59%), and highest in high school students (6.17%) compared to middle school (4.19%) and primary school students (0.44%) (χ2=62.23, 198.69, 953.19, P<0.01). Logistic regression analysis showed that the number of physical education classes ≥3 per week, the number of eye health exercises at school ≥2 per day, outdoor activities between classes, teachers reminding to pay attention to reading and writing posture and strict eye standing posture were negatively correlated with the comorbidity of screening positive myopia and scoliosis (OR=0.66, 0.77, 0.71, 0.78, 0.74, P<0.05). Reading or electronic screen while lying or lying on the stomach was positively associated with the comorbidity of screening positive myopia and scoliosis (OR=1.77, P<0.05). Cumulative effect analysis showed that the cumulative score (4-7, 7-9, ≥10) was negatively correlated with the comorbidity of screening positive of myopia and scoliosis (OR=0.65, 0.55, 0.52, P<0.05).
Conclusions
The school environment support and students personal behavior habits in school are related to the comorbidity of comorbidity of screening positive myopia and scoliosis. Prevention and control of myopia and scoliosis should improve the environmental factors related to students health in school.
