OBJECTIVE:
To review clinical application and research progress of different types of intelligent responsive hydrogels in repairing articular cartilage injury.
METHODS:
The animal experiments and clinical studies of different types of intelligent responsive hydrogels for repairing articular cartilage injury were summarized by reviewing relevant literature at home and abroad.
RESULTS:
The intrinsic regenerative capacity of articular cartilage following injury is limited. Intelligent responsive hydrogels, including those that are temperature-sensitive, light-sensitive, enzyme-responsive, pH-sensitive, and other stimuli-responsive hydrogels, can undergo phase transitions in response to specific stimuli, thereby achieving optimal functionality. These hydrogels can fill the injured cartilage area, promote the proliferation and differentiation of chondrocytes, and expedite the repair of the damaged site. With advancements in cartilage tissue engineering materials research, intelligent responsive hydrogels offer a novel approach and promising potential for the treatment of cartilage injuries.
CONCLUSION
Intelligent responsive hydrogel is a kind of flexible, controllable, efficient, and stable polymer, which has similar structure and functional properties to articular cartilage, and has become one of the important biomaterials for cartilage repair. However, there is still a lack of unified treatment standards and simple and efficient preparation technology.

Objective:
To understand the current situation of college students emotional regulation and its correlation with perceived social support, so as to provide a reference for improving emotional regulation ability among college students.
Methods:
From September 15 to October 15, 2022, a total of 15 560 students from 27 colleges and universities in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Shanghai, Anhui, Hebei, Yunnan, Shanxi and Gansu were enrolled by stratified random sampling method. The Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS) and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) were used to investigate, and multiple stepwise regression was used to explore the relationship between perceived social support and emotion regulation of college students.
Results:
The scores of emotion regulation, cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition were 44(40, 50), 24(20, 28) and 20(19, 24) respectively. There were significant differences in the scores of emotion regulation, cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition by age, grade, household registration, only child status, cost of living, and sleep ( H/Z =77.72, 49.73, -5.10, -9.77, 7.68, 168.27 ; 204.55, 317.32, -5.96, -7.60, 131.20, 968.08; 82.18, 148.04, -2.30, -8.03, 64.82, 188.08, P <0.05). In addition, the multiple stepwise regression found that family support, friend support, and other support in perceived social support all had a positive impact on the emotional regulation state of college students ( β =0.137,0.207,0.090), and family support and friend support had a significant positive effect on expression inhibition( β =0.079,0.053) and cognitive reappraisal( β =0.153,0.296)( P <0.01).
Conclusion
The perceived social support can directly affect the emotional regulation of college students, and improving the emotional regulation ability has a positive significance to promote the mental health level among college students.

Chinese Journal of Hepatobiliary Surgery 2024;30(1):15-20
Objective:To analyze the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with thrombocytosis (platelet count ≥350×10 9) after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), and the effect of thrombocytosis on the prognosis of patients with HCC after TACE. Methods:Clinical data of 867 patients with HCC admitted to the Department of Interventional Radiology, the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2013 to May 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. After propensity score matching, 99 patients were enrolled, including 70 males and 29 females, aged (60.1±12.1) years. Patients were divided into the groups with thrombocytosis ( n=33) and without thrombocytosis ( n=66). The gender, maximum tumor diameter, Barcelona clinical liver cancer (BCLC) stage, and total bilirubin were compared between the two groups. The association of thrombocytosis with the prognosis of HCC after TACE treatment were analyzed using univariate and multivariate Cox regression. Results:After propensity score matching, the male proportion, maximum tumor diameter, BCLC stage, and serum level of total bilirubin were comparable between the groups (all P>0.05). Before TACE treatment, the platelet count of patients with thrombocytosis was (394.4±54.5)×10 9/L, which was higher than that after TACE [(278.2±86.4)×10 9/L, t=7.63, P<0.001]. The progression-free survival rates after TACE in without thrombocytosis group were 83.3%, 24.2%, and 7.6% at 3, 6 and 9 months, respectively, better than those in thrombocytosis group (51.5%, 3.0%, and 3.0%, respectively; χ2=31.24, P<0.001). The overall survival rates after TACE in without thrombocytosis group were 81.8%, 30.3%, and 4.5% at 1, 2 and 3 years, respectively, better than those in thrombocytosis group (15.2%, 9.1%, and 3.0%, respectively; χ2=27.89, P<0.001). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that patients of HCC with thrombocytosis had an increased risk of tumor progression ( HR=5.785, 95% CI: 3.291-10.168, P<0.001) and increased risk of death ( HR=4.090, 95% CI: 2.482-6.740, P<0.001) after TACE. Conclusion:The prognosis of TACE for HCC might be worse in patients with thrombocytosis. Thrombocytosis is a risk factor for cumulative survival and progression-free survival of HCC patients after TACE.

Objective:To evaluate the relationship between red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) andergoing transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE).Methods:Clinical data of 212 patients with HCC andergoing TACE for the first time in Department of Interventional Radiology, the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2011 to May 2018 were retrospectively analyzed, including 184 males and 28 females, aged (56.8±11.2) years. Follow-up for survival. X-tile software was used to determine 13.1% as the optimal threshold for preoperative RDW prediction of prognosis, and enrolled patients were divided into a low level group (RDW<13.1%, n=70) and a high level group (RDW≥13.1%, n=142). Aspartate aminotransferase, total bilirubin, albumin, hemoglobin and lipoprotein a, Barcelona clinical liver cancer (BCLC) stage and other indexes were compared between the two groups. Survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier method, survival rate was compared by log-rank test, and the effect of RDW on prognosis was analyzed by Cox regression. Results:The 1-year, 2-year and 3-year cumulative survival rates in RDW high level group were 34.5%, 14.1% and 6.3%, respectively, while those in RDW low level group were 64.3%, 38.6% and 21.4%, respectively, with significant difference ( χ2=23.09, P<0.001). Compared with the low level group, the levels of aspartate aminotransferase and total bilirubin were higher, the levels of albumin, hemoglobin and lipoprotein a were lower, the proportion of portal vein cancer thrombin was higher, and the stage of BCLC was later, with statistical significance (all P<0.05). Cox regression analysis showed that HCC patients with RDW≥13.1%( HR=1.732, 95% CI: 1.223-2.452, P=0.002) had poor survival prognosis after TACE. Conclusion:Preoperative RDW≥13.1% is an independent risk factor for survival after TACE in patients with HCC. RDW has potential predictive value for prognosis of patients with HCC.

Objectives:To investigate the value of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in the diagnosis of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) .Methods:The data of 98 patients with suspected pulmonary infection after allo-HSCT who underwent pathogen detection from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid between June 2016 and August 2023 at Nanfang Hospital were analyzed. The diagnostic performance of mNGS, conventional methods, and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) for PJP were compared. Results:A total of 12 patients were diagnosed with PJP, including 11 with a proven diagnosis and 1 with a probable diagnosis. Among the patients with a proven diagnosis, 1 was positive by both conventional methods and qPCR, and 10 were positive by qPCR only. Pneumocystis jirovecii was detected by mNGS in all 12 patients. The diagnostic sensitivity of mNGS for PJP was 100%, which was greater than that of conventional methods (8.3%, P=0.001) and similar to that of qPCR (91.6%, P=1.000) . A total of 75% of the patients developed mixed pulmonary infections, and cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr virus were the most common pathogens. Mixed infection was detected in eight patients by mNGS and in five patients by qPCR, but not by conventional methods ( P=0.008) . Conclusions:mNGS had good sensitivity for diagnosing PJP after allo-HSCT and was advantageous for detecting mixed infectious pathogens; therefore, mNGS might be an effective supplement to regular detection methods and qPCR.

Objective:To explore the effect of enriched environment on pain sensitivity, anxiety- and depressive-like behavior in selective nerve injury(SNI) rats model and its potential mechanism. Methods:A total of 36 male clean grade SD rats aged 6-8 weeks were randomly divided into three groups( n=12 in each group): sham operation+ standard environment group (sham group), SNI+ standard environment group (standard environment group), SNI+ enriched environment group (enriched environment group). The rat model of neuropathic pain was established by SNI.The rats in the enriched enviroment group were placed in an enriched enviroment 7 days before operation until 21 days after operation. The paw withdraw threshold(PWT) and paw withdraw latency (PWL) were performed to assess hyperalgesia. The open field test, elevated plus maze test, novelty suppressed feeding test and forced swimming test were used to assess anxiety and depression like behavior. The expressions of cAMP response element binding protein (CREB), p-CREB, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), postsynaptic density-95 (PSD-95) and neuroligin 2 (NLGN2) were detected by Western blot. The expression of CREB and BDNF in contralateral ACC were measured by immunofluorescence.GraphPad prism 8.0 and SPSS 23.0 were used for data analysis. One way ANOVA was used for inter group comparison, repeated measurement ANOVA was used to analyze PWT and PWL results, and Tukey test was used for pairwise comparison. Results:(1) In PWT and PWL experiments, the interaction effect between group and time, group main effect and time main effect of PWT were significant ( F=13.4, 39.6, 369.6, all P<0.05), and the interaction effect between group and time, group main effect and time main effect of PWL were significant ( F=3.8, 10.3, 58.8, all P<0.05). Compared with sham group, PWT((8.0±3.5) g, (2.4±1.4) g, (2.3±1.1) g, (2.2±1.6) g, (1.6±0.5) g) and PWL((8.6±1.3) s, (7.3±1.5) s, (7.9±1.0) s, (6.6±1.1) s, (7.7±1.4) s) in standard environment group decreased at each time point (all P<0.05). (2) Compared with sham group, the number of entrying into the central area (1.3±1.7), the time of entrying into the central area((1.6±1.3) s), the proportion of entering open arms ((8.0±7.8) %) and the proportion of time in the open arms ((1.3±1.2) %) all significantly decreased in standard environment group ( t=4.585, 5.423, 4.682, 5.202, all P<0.05). The eating latency ((365.2±94.4) s) and immobility time ((127.6±24.3) s) dramatically increased ( t=6.008, 14.290, both P<0.05). The number and time of entrying into central area of enriched environment group were both higher than those of standard environment group(both P<0.05), while the eating latency and immobility time of enriched environment group were both lower than those of standard environment group(both P<0.05). (3) Compared with sham group(CREB: (1.6±0.2), (0.8±0.5); BDNF: (0.8±0.5), (1.0±0.4)), the expression of CREB ((1.8±0.1), (1.5±0.2)), BDNF ((0.9±0.6), (1.4±0.3)) in spinal cord and ACC of standard environment group increased (spinal: t=3.283, 4.989; ACC: t=5.502, 4.257, all P<0.05). The expression of PSD-95 ((1.6±0.2), (1.0±0.2) and NLGN2 ((1.5±0.5), (1.1±0.2)) also increased in ACC of standard enviroment group ( t=4.257, 2.214, both P<0.05). Compared with standard environment group, the expression of CREB (1.3±0.3), BDNF (0.7±0.4), PSD-95(1.0±0.3) and NLGN2(1.1±0.4) in spinal cord of enriched environment group decreased ( t=5.007, 2.166, 2.358, 2.322, all P<0.05). The expression of PSD-95(1.2±0.3) and NLGN2(1.1±0.2) also decreased in ACC of enriched environment group ( t=2.674, 2.944, both P<0.05). However, the expression of p-CREB (1.7±0.6) and BDNF (2.4±0.2) increased in ACC ( t=4.180, 7.610, P<0.05). Conclusion:Enriched environment can improve neuropathic pain and anxiety- and depressive-like behavior in SNI rats, which may be related to the change of synaptic plasticity in spinal cord and ACC.

Objective:To investigate the clinical and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) characteristics of heart involvement in patients with Fabry disease (AFD).Methods:From January 2018 to March 2021, eight AFD patients [3 males and 5 females, mean age (50±11) years old, range 26-60 years old] confirmed by genetic testing or pathology in Fuwai Hospital were retrospectively included in this study. At the same time, sixteen patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) [6 males and 10 females, mean age (46±15) years old] and 16 healthy individuals [6 males and 10 females, mean age (51±11) years old] were included as controls. The clinical baseline data and CMR data of the patients were collected and analyzed. The CMR data were analyzed using the software CVI42, with the corresponding parameters automatically generated. One-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the differences in the parameters among the three groups. Independent-samples t test, Fisher precise test or Mann-Whitney U test were used for the comparison between each two groups. Results:Statistically significant difference was found in renal insufficiency between the HCM group and the AFD group; No other significant difference was found in other clinical factors and ECG results (all P>0.05). CMR results showed that in the AFD group, there were 5 cases with symmetric or roughly symmetric hypertrophy, and 3 with asymmetric hypertrophy. The late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) showed myocardial enhancement in 5 patients, mainly presenting as multiple intermural enhancement, and partially as local subendocardial enhancement. In the HCM group, fourteen cases suffered mainly asymmetric ventricular septal thickening, with or without thickening of other parts of left ventricular wall; and 2 cases had thickening of middle and distal part of the left ventricle. The LGE showed myocardial enhancement in 14 patients, which manifested as focal or patchy enhancement in hypertrophic myocardium, including focal enhancement in the right ventricular insertion of ventricular septum (more common) and subendocardial enhancement in the middle and far segments of left ventricle. Statistically significant difference was found in the differences between the left atrial anterior posterior diameter, the maximum wall thickness of left ventricular, the left ventricular myocardial mass index (LVMI) and the native T 1 value among the three groups (all P<0.001). However, there was no statistically significant difference in the left atrial anterior posterior diameter and the maximum wall thickness of left ventricular between AFD group and HCM group ( P>0.05). The LVMI in AFD group was higher than that in healthy group and HCM group (all P<0.05). Significant difference was found in the native T 1 value among the three groups, with the native T 1 value of the AFD group [(1 177.4±46.0) ms] was significantly lower than that of the healthy group [(1 244.5±34.3) ms] and the HCM group [(1 278.8±41.6) ms], with ( F=13.10, P<0.001). Conclusions:The clinical characteristics of AFD and HCM are quite similar. When AFD is suspected, CMR imaging should be the first choice for imaging examination. Especially, T 1 mapping imaging can provide important information for the diagnosis of AFD.

Chinese Journal of Gastroenterology 2022;27(1):26-31
Background; Immunological dysfunction plays a key role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (I B D). Notopterol is the main ingredient of the traditional Chinese herb medicine Notopterygium ineisum Ting ex H. T. Chang and has anti-inflammatory effect. Aims; To explore the effect of notopterol on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice. Methods; C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into normal group, negative control group, model group and notopterol group. Mice in model group and notopterol group were treated with 2% DSS to induce colitis. Mice in negative control group and notopterol group were injected intraperitoneally with notopterol 40 mg/kg, and mice in normal group and model group were injected intraperitoneally with 0. 9% NaCl solution. Mice were sacrificed 10 days later, and disease activity index (DAI) score, colon length and histopathologieal score were determined. The levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17A were assessed by ELISA. The mRNA expressions of IL-17A, RORγt were detected by quantitative PCR. Results; Compared with the normal group, DAI score, histopathologieal score, levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17A, mRNA expressions of IL-17A and RORγt in model group were significantly increased (P < 0. 0 1), and colon length were significantly shortened (P < 0. 0 1). Compared with the model group, notopterol significantly reduced DAI score and histopathologieal score (P<0.01), downregulated levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17A (P<0.01), inhibited the mRNA expressions of IL-17A, ROR-γt (P < 0. 0 1), and greatly recovered colon length (P < 0. 0 1). Conclusions; Notopterol has protective effects on DSS-induced colitis in mice. The mechanism may be related to reducing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines and inhibiting the function and differentiation of Thl7 cells.
