BACKGROUND:
Huaier granule is an important medicinal fungus extract widely used in cancer treatment. Previous retrospective studies have reported its effectiveness in breast cancer patients, but the imbalanced baseline characteristics of participants could have biased the results. Therefore, this retrospective study aimed to examine the efficacy of Huaier granule on the prognosis of breast cancer patients.
METHODS:
In this single-center cohort study, breast cancer patients diagnosed and treated at the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine between 2009 and 2017 were selected. The data were retrospectively analyzed and divided into two groups according to whether the patients received Huaier granules. The propensity score matching (PSM) method was used to eliminate selection bias. The disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) for these groups were compared using the Kaplan-Meier method and the Cox regression.
RESULTS:
This study included 214 early invasive breast cancer patients, 107 in the Huaier group and 107 in the control group. In the Kaplan-Meier analysis, the 2-year and 5-year DFS rates were significantly different in the Huaier group and control group (hazard ratio [HR], 0.495; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.257-0.953; P = 0.023). The 2-year and 5-year OS rates were also significantly different (HR, 0.308; 95% CI, 0.148-0.644; P = 0.001). On multivariable Cox regression, Huaier granule was associated with improved DFS (HR, 0.440; 95% CI, 0.223-0.868; P = 0.018) and OS (HR, 0.236; 95% CI, 0.103-0.540; P = 0.001).
CONCLUSION
In this retrospective study, Huaier granules improved the DFS and OS of early invasive breast cancer patients, providing real-world evidence for further prospective studies on treating breast cancer with Huaier granules.

Chinese Medical Journal 2025;138(12):1456-1464
BACKGROUND:
Whether adherence to a healthy lifestyle is associated with a lower risk of developing pneumonia and a better long-term prognosis remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate associations of individual and combined lifestyle factors (LFs) with the incidence risk and long-term prognosis of pneumonia hospitalization.
METHODS:
Using data from the China Kadoorie Biobank study, we used the multistate models to investigate the role of five high-risk LFs, including smoking, excessive alcohol drinking, unhealthy dietary habits, physical inactivity, and unhealthy body shape, alone or in combination in the transitions from a generally healthy state at baseline to pneumonia hospitalization or cardiovascular disease (CVD, regarded as a reference outcome), and subsequently to mortality.
RESULTS:
Most of the five high-risk LFs were associated with increased risks of transitions from baseline to pneumonia and from pneumonia to death, but with different risk estimates. The greater the number of high-risk LFs, the higher the risk of developing pneumonia and long-term mortality risk after pneumonia, with the strength of associations comparable to that of LFs and CVD. Compared to participants with 0-1 high-risk LF, the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for transitions from baseline to pneumonia and from pneumonia to death in those with five high-risk LFs were 1.43 (1.28-1.60) and 1.98 (1.61-2.42), respectively. Correspondingly, the respective HRs (95% CIs) for transitions from baseline to CVD and from CVD to death were 2.00 (1.89-2.11) and 1.44 (1.30-1.59), respectively. The risk estimates changed slightly when further adjusting for the presence of major chronic diseases.
CONCLUSION
In this Chinese population, unhealthy LFs were associated with an increased incidence and long-term mortality risk of pneumonia.

Bone is a highly calcified and vascularized tissue. The vascular system plays a vital role in supporting bone growth and repair, such as the provision of nutrients, growth factors, and metabolic waste transfer. Moreover, the additional functions of the bone vasculature, such as the secretion of various factors and the regulation of bone-related signaling pathways, are essential for maintaining bone health. In the bone microenvironment, bone tissue cells play a critical role in regulating angiogenesis, including osteoblasts, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), and osteoclasts. Osteogenesis and bone angiogenesis are closely linked. The decrease in osteogenesis and bone angiogenesis caused by aging leads to osteoporosis. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in various physiological processes, including osteogenesis and angiogenesis. Recent studies have shown that lncRNAs could mediate the crosstalk between angiogenesis and osteogenesis. However, the mechanism by which lncRNAs regulate angiogenesis‒osteogenesis crosstalk remains unclear. In this review, we describe in detail the ways in which lncRNAs regulate the crosstalk between osteogenesis and angiogenesis to promote bone health, aiming to provide new directions for the study of the mechanism by which lncRNAs regulate bone metabolism.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;66(15):1534-1537
This paper summarized Professor BU He's clinical experience in the integrative internal and external treatment of pediatric functional constipation. He believes that dysfunction of the spleen in transportation leads to impaired function of the sanjiao (三焦) and intestinal obstruction, which constitutes the core pathogenesis of pediatric functional constipation. The treatment emphasizes regulating the spleen and harmonizing the pivot, as well as unblocking the bowel and eliminating stagnation. An integrated approach combining internal and external therapies is advocated. Internally, Chinese herbal medicine, primarily Modified Sijunzi Decoction and Shaoyao Gancao Decoction (四君子汤合芍药甘草汤加减) is used to regulate the internal organs. Externally, pediatric tuina and moxibustion on qi interlocking are employed. Together, these methods fortify the spleen and facilitate transportation, restoring the smooth function of the sanjiao pivot, and ensuring intestinal patency, thereby relieving constipation.

Chinese Journal of Practical Nursing 2025;41(7):552-561
Objective:To provide a scoping review of domestic and international studies on the influencing factors of frailty in stroke inpatients, and to provide guidance for interventional studies on debility in stroke inpatients in China. Methods:A systematic search of domestic and international literature databases, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang, VIP, China Biomedical Literature Database, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL was conducted about the status and its influencing factors of frailty in stroke inpatients. The retrieval time limit was from database establishment to November 23, 2023. The included literature was extracted, analyzed, and summarized according to the reporting specifications of the scope review guidelines.Results:Thirty-six articles were included, all of the 36 papers reported the prevalence of frailty in patients with stroke. The top three countries with the highest prevalence were China (15.3%-86.9%), the United Kingdom (28%-78%), and Italy (31.37%). The risk factors of stroke frailty were categorized mainly into 4 themes: social demographic factors, physical health factors, disease-related factors, and psychological and social background factors. Conclusions:The confidence of frailty in stroke patients of a higher level at home and abroad, and the risk factors involved are complex and diverse. It is suggested that future studies need to conduct large-sample, multicenter longitudinal studies to clarify the causal relationship, strengthen the exploration of controversial factors of stroke debility, and carry out more targeted intervention studies, so as to reduce the incidence of frailty and improve the recovery process of patients.

Objective :
To explore the expression of prohibitin2(PHB2) in breast cancer and its effect on the biological behaviors of tumor cells.
Methods :
Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of PHB2 protein in breast cancer tissues and its relationship with clinicopathologic features. Breast cancer stable transient cell lines were constructed with knockdown and overexpression ofPHB2, respectively. The effects of PHB2 on cell proliferation, migration and invasion ability were detected by clone formation assay, scratch assay and Transwell assay. Western blot(WB) was used to detect the effects of PHB2 on the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)-related markers, including E-cadherin, N-cadherin, Snail family transcriptional repressor 1(Snail) protein, Vimentin, and Claudin-1. The effect of PHB2 on tumorigenicityin vivowas detected by subcutaneous tumor formation assay in nude mice.
Results:
The result of immunohistochemical showed that PHB2 was highly expressed in breast cancer and the expression of PHB2 was significantly positive correlated with tumor size, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2(HER-2) status and proliferation index Ki-67 levels(P<0.05). Clone formation assay, scratch assay and Transwell assay revealed that knockdown ofPBH2significantly inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion ability of breast cancer cells(P<0.01), while the overexpression ofPHB2significantly promoted cell proliferation, migration and invasion(P<0.01). The result of subcutaneous tumor formation experiment in nude mice revealed a significant decrease in tumor volume and weight in knockdownPHB2mice(P<0.000 1), whilePHB2overexpression tumors significantly increased in volume and weight(P<0.001).WB assay showed that the protein expression of epithelial marker E-cadherin increased, while the expressions of mesenchymal markers N-cadherin, Snail and Vimentin decreased significantly afterPHB2knockdown with them in control cells(P<0.01). The expression of Claudin-1 decreased, while the expressions of N-cadherin, Snail and Vimentin increased significantly inPHB2overexpression cells(P<0.05).
Conclusion
PHB2 is highly expressed in breast cancer and promotes multiple malignant biological behaviors in tumor cells, suggesting PHB2 may be a potential target for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM)is one of the complications of diabetes. The onset of DCM is hidden and easy to be ignored.Myocardial injury is serious in the later stage and the prognosis is poor.At present, symptomatic treatment is the main clinical treatment.Cuproptosis is a novel cell death mode caused by imbalanced copper ion concentration in the body, leading to mitochondrial metabolic abnormalities, which is one of the important mechanisms of DCM.Targeted cuproptosis pathway therapy for DCM is currently a focus and hotspot of research. The"Qi Luo Theory"is one of the disciplinary branches of the theory of collateral diseases, which mainly operates the meridian Qi system. The syndrome and treatment system of collateral diseases cardiovascular diseases have important guiding significance for the treatment of DCM.Traditional Chinese medicine believes that deficiency and stagnation of Qi that in the collaterals are the root causes of DCM,with stasis and toxin obstructing collaterals and damage to the heart collaterals being the core of the disease. The ultimate outcome is the deficiency and decline of Qi,Blood,Yin,and Yang in the heart. The"Qi Luo Theory"and cuproptosis have similarities in physiological functions and pathological processes, and cuproptosis can be said to be one of the microscopic manifestations of the"Qi Luo theory".Based on this, the staged treatment principle of tonifying deficiency and promoting stagnation as the norm, attacking and supplementing simultaneously as the principle, and strengthening the body and consolidating the core has been proposed,in order to provide theoretical reference for the clinical treatment of DCM.

To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and spatiotemporal distribution of pertussis in Tianjin City from 2010 to 2024. Data on pertussis cases reported in Tianjin between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2024, were extracted from the Infectious Disease Surveillance and Reporting Information System of the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention. Descriptive epidemiological methods and Joinpoint regression were used to analyze the temporal distribution and incidence trends of pertussis. Spatial autocorrelation analysis and spatial-temporal scanning were employed to characterize the spatial distribution and clustering patterns. The incidence rate of pertussis in Tianjin exhibited an overall upward trend from 2010 to 2024 (AAPC=17.04%, P<0.001), peaking at 11.70 per 100 000 population in 2023. Prior to 2020, the incidence peaked in July and August, whereas from 2023 to 2024, high incidence periods shifted to autumn and winter. The highest average annual incidence rate occurred in the <1-year-old group (165.06 per 100 000), followed by the 5-9-year-old group (20.14 per 100 000). The groups under 1 year old and 1-4 years old showed a trend of first increasing, then decreasing, and subsequently increasing again, with 2018 and 2021 as turning points ( P<0.05). Global spatial autocorrelation analysis revealed significant spatial clustering of pertussis cases in Tianjin districts in 2017 ( Moran′s I=0.19) and 2023 ( Moran′s I=0.51), with both P<0.05. The spatial-temporal scan analysis identified nine high-incidence clusters, with the primary cluster occurring in 2023, covering Jinnan, Dongli, and Hexi districts ( RR=7.37, LLR=568.21, P<0.001). In summary, the incidence of pertussis in Tianjin City has shown an upward trend from 2010 to 2024. The epidemiological characteristics have significantly changed around 2020, with pronounced seasonal and spatial clustering patterns observed in the past two years.

Objective:To construct a questionnaire to measure parents′ behavioral and social drivers (BeSD) in administering rotavirus vaccine to their children, and to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. Methods:A questionnaire was constructed to investigate the BeSD of rotavirus vaccination among parents based on the WHO BeSD questionnaire. A survey was conducted among parents of children aged 0-3 years old in vaccination clinics from 15 community health service centers in Nanjing City of Jiangsu Province, Yuhuan and Kaihua Counties of Zhejiang Province, Anqing City of Anhui Province, and Yangpu District of Shanghai City from April to May in 2024. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to analyze the reliability (internal consistency reliability, combination reliability and split half reliability) and validity (structural validity, convergence validity and discriminative validity) of the questionnaire. Results:A total of 850 questionnaires were collected, of which 614 were valid, with an effective response rate of 72.20%. The EFA resulted in the refinement of the rotavirus vaccine BeSD questionnaire from 37 to 35 items (including 24 core items), and suggested a five-factor structure including the perceptions of vaccine, confidence in vaccine, social process of vaccination, motivation for vaccination, and practical problems of vaccination. The cumulative variance contribution rate reached 56.27%. The CFA confirmed an ideal five-factor model fit (GFI=0.82,CFI=0.86,PNFI=0.67,RMSEA=0.07). The AVE of each dimension was greater than 0.50. The AVE square root of each dimension of the questionnaire was greater than its correlation coefficient. The Cronbach′s α coefficient of the total questionnaire was 0.79.Conclusion:The developed BeSD questionnaire of rotavirus vaccine has good reliability and validity, and can be used to measure parents′ behavioral and social factors in administering rotavirus vaccine to their children.

Objective:To analyze the willingness and related factors of pregnant women in Shanghai City to receive influenza vaccines during pregnancy. Methods:An online questionnaire survey was conducted among pregnant women who registered in maternal and child health hospitals in 16 districts of Shanghai. The basic information, health status during pregnancy, attitude towards influenza vaccination, and knowledge of influenza and influenza vaccine were collected, and χ2 test and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the willingness and related factors of pregnant women to receive influenza vaccines during pregnancy. Results:A total of 3 219 valid questionnaires were received, with 10.90% of pregnant women willing to receive influenza vaccination during pregnancy, 57.50% unwilling to receive vaccination and 31.59% holding an uncertain attitude. Among the pregnant women who were willing to receive the vaccine, 82.91% would take the initiative to know the relevant information about the influenza vaccine, and 87.18% understood the transmission routes of the flu. 32.09% believed that pregnant women could receive the influenza vaccination at any stage of pregnancy. Among those who were unwilling and held an uncertain attitude, the proportions of the above three questions were 47.06%, 83.95% and 17.80%, respectively. Among pregnant women who were unwilling to receive vaccination and held an uncertain attitude, the main reason for their vaccine hesitation was the concern about the safety of the vaccine for pregnant women and fetuses during pregnancy. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that pregnant women with higher education ( OR=3.278, 95% CI: 1.678-6.406, P=0.001), second trimester ( OR=1.542, 95% CI: 1.159-2.054, P=0.003), third pregnancy ( OR=2.318, 95% CI: 1.008-5.331, P=0.048), and previous influenza vaccination ( OR=1.552, 95% CI: 1.119-2.152, P=0.008) had a higher willingness to receive influenza vaccines during pregnancy. Conclusion:Pregnant women in Shanghai have a relatively low willingness to receive influenza vaccines during pregnancy, mainly due to concerns about vaccine safety.
