Objective:To study the feasibility of detecting vertical semicircular canal function and to analyze the three-dimensional(3D)characteristics and normal reference value in healthy young people. Methods:This was a cross-sectional study conducted from January to June 2024. A three-axis rotating chair was used to perform vertical sinusoidal rotation on 52 healthy young adults (26 males and 26 females, aged 18-40 years) in the left anterior-right posterior (LARP) and right anterior-left posterior (RALP) semicircular canal planes. For each plane, nystagmus was induced with six combinations of different angles and velocity front and back rotation angles of ±30°,±60°,±90°, and velocities of 40°/s and 80°/s, the slow phase velocity (SPV) and their symmetry of 3D nystagmus were analyzed. SPSS 20.0 was used to compare the statistical differences in these two parameters across different stimulation protocols. Results:There were no spontaneous nystagmus in the 52 subjects, and all tests were finished. Except the combinations of (±30°-40°/s), three components of nystagmus were induced stably in the rest of the stimulations. The SPVs of vertical components were no statistically insignificant ( P>0.05), and some horizontal or torsion components were statistically significant ( P<0.05). The 95% reference range of the symmetry was≤25% in the vertical and≤30% in the torsional component of the nystagmus except for (±30°-80°/s), the symmetry was 32.2% and 49.2% respectively. The trend changes of the three components were consistent, among which the vertical and torsional components induced by (±60°-80°/s) and (±90°-80°/s) were the best, the SPV value of the vertical components was higher in the latter group than the former apart from the front RALP, while no significant difference was found in the torsional components ( P>0.05). Conclusion:The (±90°-80°/s) combination is the optimal method to detect the function of vertical semicircular canal in 3D chair test. When observing torsional component, the combining scheme of (±60°-80°/s) and (±90°-80°/s) is better. Considering tolerance, the (±60°-80°/s) combination is recommended.

This article systematically analyzes the historical evolution of the name, origin, quality evaluation, harvesting, processing and other aspects of Picrorhizae Rhizoma by referring to the medical books, prescription books, and other documents of the past dynasties, combined with relevant modern research materials, in order to provide a basis for the development and utilization of famous classical formulas containing this medicinal herb. The research results indicate that Picrorhizae Rhizoma was first recorded in New Revised Materia Medica from the Tang dynasty. Throughout history, Huhuanglian has been used as its official name, and there are also aliases such as Gehu Luze, Jiahuanglian and Hulian. The main source of past dynasties is the the rhizomes of Picrorhiza kurrooa and P. scrophulariiflora. In ancient times, Picrorhizae Rhizoma was mainly imported by foreign traders via Guangzhou and other regions, and also produced in China, mainly in Xizang. In ancient times, it was harvested and dried in early August of the lunar calendar, while in modern times, it is mostly harvested from July to September, with the best quality being those with thick and crispy rhizomes without impurities, and bitter taste. Throughout history, Picrorhizae Rhizoma was collected, washed, sliced, and dried before being used as a raw material for medicine, it has a bitter and cold taste, mainly used to treat bone steaming, hot flashes, infantile chancre fever, and dysentery. There is no significant difference in taste and efficacy between ancient and modern times. Based on the research results, it is recommended that the rhizomes of P. scrophulariiflora in the 2020 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia, or the rhizomes of P. kurrooa, can be used in famous classical formulas containing this medicinal herb, which can be processed according to the processing requirements marked by the original formula. For those without clear processing requirements, the dried raw products are used as medicine.

This article systematically analyzes the historical evolution of the name, origin, medicinal parts, processing and other aspects of Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix(EPR) by referring to the herbal medicine, medical books, prescription books and other documents of the past dynasties, combined with the relevant modern research materials, so as to provide a basis for the development and utilization of famous classical formulas containing this herbal medicine. According to research, EPR was first recorded in the Shennong Bencaojing in the name of Daji, and it is the correct name of the herbal medicine in all dynasties, there are also other aliases such as Qiongju, Hongya Daji, and Xiamaxian. The dried roots of Euphorbia pekinensis from Euphorbiaceae was the mainstream of the past dynasties. Before the Ming dynasty, the above ground parts of E. pekinensis were used as Zeqi in herbal works. However, since LI Shizhen in the Ming dynasty proposed that the origin of Zeqi should be E. helioscopia, the aerial part of EPR is no longer used as medicine. Since modern times, the roots of Knoxia valerianoides has been used as EPR, and has become the mainstream of commodities, which should be corrected. Throughout history, it has been recorded that the main producing areas were Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Shanxi and other regions, while modern botanical survey have shown that EPR is a widespread species distributed throughout the country. In ancient times, the harvesting time of EPR was mostly the twelfth lunar month, while in modern time, it is more common to harvest in autumn and winter. The main processing methods of EPR in ancient times were vinegar processing, wine processing, and stir frying, while in modern times, it is uniformly vinegar processing. In the medicinal properties and clinical aspects, the records are basically consistent throughout history, mainly characterized by bitter taste, cold and toxic nature. Its main efficacy is expelling water retention and reducing swelling. Based on the textual research, it is suggested to choose the dried roots of E. pekinensis when famous classical formulas containing EPR, processing method can be based on the original specified prescription requirements, if the processing method is not clear, it is recommended to use vinegar-processed products as medicine.

Objective:To investigate the impacts of atrial high-rate episodes (AHRE) on the risks of new onset of atrial fibrillation and all-cause mortality in elderly patients over 90 years old after cardiac dual-chamber pacemaker implantation. Methods:This study was a retrospective study. Patients aged 90 years and above who were implanted with cardiac dual-chamber pacemakers and followed up in the People′s Liberation Army General Hospital from January 2017 to June 2022 were enrolled and divided into AHRE≥6 h group and AHRE<6 h group according to the onset time of AHRE. The primary endpoint was new onset of atrial fibrillation, and the secondary endpoints were all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. Kaplan-Meier survival curve was poltted, and log-rank test was used to compare the differences in the incidence of new onset of atrial fibrillation, all-cause death and cardiovascular death between AHRE≥6 h and AHRE<6 h groups. Multivariate Cox survival analysis was used to investigate the factors affecting new onset of atrial fibrillation, all-cause death and cardiovascular death in elderly patients aged 90 years and above with dual-chamber pacemaker implantation. Results:A total of 169 patients were enrolled, aged (93.95±3.28) years, including 18 females (11%). The median follow-up time was 28.9 months. There were 87 and 82 patients in AHRE≥6 h group and AHRE<6 h group, respectively. Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis showed that the incidence of new onset of atrial fibrillation (log-rank P<0.001), all-cause death (log-rank P=0.004) and cardiovascular death (log-rank P=0.026) in AHRE≥6 h group was significantly higher than that in AHRE<6 h group. After adjusting for traditional risk factors, multivariate Cox survival analysis showed that AHRE≥6 h was an independent risk factor for new onset of atrial fibrillation ( HR=4.046, 95% CI 2.402-6.814, P<0.001) and all-cause mortality ( HR=1.668, 95% CI 1.119-2.487, P=0.012) in elderly patients over 90 years old with cardiac dual-chamber pacemaker implantation. However, AHRE≥6 h had no effect on cardiovascular mortality ( P>0.05). Anemia ( HR=3.098, 95% CI 1.342-7.153, P=0.008) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction ( HR=3.028, 95% CI 1.181-7.763, P=0.021) were both independently associated with cardiovascular mortality. Conclusions:AHRE is common in cardiac dual-chamber pacemakers recipients aged 90 years and above, and AHRE≥6 h can be used as a predictor of new onset of atrial fibrillation or all-cause mortality in these patients.

Chinese Journal of Radiation Oncology 2023;32(3):265-269
Glioma is the most common primary intracranial central nervous system tumor, and postoperative radiotherapy is an important treatment for glioma. At present, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are widely applied in the delineation of radiotherapy targets for glioma. However, there are still some deficiencies in evaluating tumor scope, recurrence, radiation necrosis and prognosis, etc. Positron emission tomography (PET) / computed tomography (PET-CT) combines the molecular images of PET with the anatomical images of CT, which plays an important role in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of glioma. With the popularization and application of multimodal imaging technology in radiotherapy, PET-CT molecular imaging, as an important supplement, contributes to the delineation of glioma target volume and the development of accurate radiotherapy, and brings benefits to the prognosis and follow-up of glioma patients. In this article, the application and research progress on PET-CT in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up for glioma were reviewed.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is characterized by abdominal pain associated with changes in defecation frequency and blood folate level. FODMAP stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols. High-FODMAP diet could elicit or exacerbate IBS-associated bowel symptoms, which is inadequately recognized among gastroenterologists in China. Here we report an IBS case, focusing on the association between high-FODMAP diet and bowel symptoms and the intervention of low-FODMAP diet.
