BACKGROUND:
Epidemiological data on chronic diarrhea in the Chinese population are lacking, and the association between obesity and chronic diarrhea in East Asian populations remains inconclusive. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of chronic diarrhea and its association with obesity in a representative community-dwelling Chinese population.
METHODS:
This cross-sectional study was based on a multistage, randomized cluster sampling involving 3503 residents aged 20-69 years from representative urban and rural communities in Beijing. Chronic diarrhea was assessed using the Bristol Stool Form Scale (BSFS), and obesity was determined based on body mass index (BMI). Logistic regression analysis and restricted cubic splines were used to evaluate the relationship between obesity and chronic diarrhea.
RESULTS:
The standardized prevalence of chronic diarrhea in the study population was 12.88%. The average BMI was 24.67 kg/m 2 . Of all the participants, 35.17% (1232/3503) of participants were classified as overweight and 16.13% (565/3503) as obese. After adjustment for potential confounders, individuals with obesity had an increased risk of chronic diarrhea as compared to normal weight individuals (odds ratio = 1.58, 95% confidence interval: 1.20-2.06). A nonlinear association between BMI and the risk of chronic diarrhea was observed in community residents of males and the overall participant group ( P = 0.026 and 0.017, respectively).
CONCLUSIONS
This study presents initial findings on the prevalence of chronic diarrhea among residents of Chinese communities while offering substantiated evidence regarding the significant association between obesity and chronic diarrhea. These findings offer a novel perspective on gastrointestinal health management.

The strategy of pelvic lymph node dissection in patients with localized intermediate- and high-risk prostate cancer(PCa)has been one of the research hotspots in recent years. This review synthesizes recent progress in clinical, diagnostic imaging and immunological aspects of pelvic lymph node dissection. It is found that the detection rate of metastatic lymph nodes in patients with localized intermediate-risk PCa is relatively low,and the survival benefit after dissection is not significant. PSMA PET/CT examination can be used instead of lymph node dissection for staging. Extended lymph node dissection in patients with localized high-risk PCa can achieve a higher detection rate of metastatic lymph nodes and possible survival benefits. However, excessive lymph node dissection can weaken the response ability to immunotherapy. The strategy for pelvic lymph node dissection in patients with localized intermediate-high-risk PCa needs further study.

Objective:To measure the radial artery (RA) diameter and explore its related factors by using optical coherence tomography (OCT).Methods:This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Cardiac Care Unit of Beijing Luhe Hospital, Capital Medical University. Patients who underwent first-ever right forearm access and OCT guided coronary intervention via right distal RA, and measurement of the whole portion of RA diameter with OCT in our center between January 2021 to December 2021 were enrolled. Following the coronary intervention, OCT was used to assess the entire RA. The RA diameter was measured from the RA ostium to 2 cm above the radial styloid process, with a 1 mm interval. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine the factors related the RA diameter. Results:The study enrolled 124 patients with an age of (61.6±12.6) years, of whom 98 (79%) were male. The total length of the RA was (19.5±1.8) cm, for males (20.2±1.3) cm and females (17.2±1.2) cm. The average RA diameter was (3.13±0.50) mm, and the RA diameter at 2 to 5 cm above the radial styloid process was (2.98±0.53) mm. The average RA diameter was significantly larger for male patients than for female patients ((3.21±0.50) mm vs. (2.84±0.37) mm, P<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that gender was significantly associated with RA diameter ( P=0.019). Conclusions:The average RA diameter measured by OCT is (3.13±0.50) mm, (2.98±0.53) mm at 2 to 5 cm above the radial styloid process. Gender is identified as a factor related to the RA diameter.

Objective In this study,2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene(DNCB)was used to induce the establishment of an atopic dermatitis(AD)model in BALB/c homozygous mice to simulate the skin inflammatory complications in patients with clinical malignancies. Methods BALB/c mice were divided into different groups:negative control group(NC group),model group(MODEL group),atopic dermatitis group(AD group),and dexamethasone group(DEX group). After the mice in MODEL group and DEX group were inoculated with S-180 tumor cells in the axilla,MODEL group,AD group and DEX group were stimulated with DNCB on the dorsal skin and the ear to establish an animal model of atopic dermatitis in tumor-bearing mice.Changes in body weight were observed and recorded, the dorsal skin condition of mice was assessed after the last administration of the drug, the spleen was taken to calculate the spleen coefficient, the difference in the mass of mouse ear slices was determined to calculate the degree of auricular swelling and the rate of inhibition of swelling, and histopathological tests were performed on the dorsal skin tissues to detect the levels of IgE,TNF-α,IL-4,and IL-17 in the serum using an ELISA assay. Results Compared with the NC group, the skin of mice in the MODEL and AD groups showed erythematous, papular, scaly and mossy changes, accompanied by weight loss, and a significant increase in splenic coefficient and auricular swelling.Pathologic findings showed an incomplete skin structure,a significant increase in skin thickness,a large infiltration of inflammatory cells, and an increase in the number of mast cells.Serum levels of IgE,TNF-α,IL-4 and IL-17 were increased.Compared with the MODEL group, the DEX group showed an improvement in all the assays. Conclusions DNCB excitation can successfully establish an animal model of AD in hormonal mice, which is drug-controllable,which provides a useful scientific tool for conducting scientific research related to malignant tumors and skin inflammation.

The classification of stoma skin barriers varies based on their specific features. The curvature design of convex skin barriers provides a secure and effective seal for patients with flat, retracted stomas or peristomal skin folds. The secure sealing ability of convex skin barriers is attributed to several critical structural components. Although convex skin barriers offer many clinical advantages, there is currently no unified standard for measuring their characteristics, resulting in confusion among healthcare professionals when selecting stoma care products. To address this issue, the 2021 International Stoma Care Expert Meeting proposed the Expert Consensus on Characteristics of Convex Skin Barriers and Clinical Application, which clearly defines five essential properties and clinical application guidelines for convex barriers. However, as most consensus contributors are from Europe and North America, its applicability in Chinese healthcare settings may be limited. Therefore, this paper provides a detailed interpretation of the five characteristics and clinical application statements of convex skin barriers, aiming to offer practical guidance to clinical nurses in selecting appropriate convex products and managing stoma-related complications.
