1.Analysis of status and associated factors of wasting among primary and secondary school students in Guangxi, 2021-2025
Chinese Journal of School Health 2026;47(9):1246-1251
Objective:
To analyze the status of wasting among primary and secondary school students in Guangxi from 2021 to 2025, to explore the factors associated with wasting, so as to provide scientific evidence for improving student s nutrition.
Methods:
Based on the National Surveillance and Intervention Program on Common Diseases and Health Risk Factors among Students, a stratified cluster random sampling was adopted from 2021 to 2025 to recruit 71 077, 236 511, 243 466, 249 619 and 246 259 primary and secondary school students in Guangxi for physical examination and questionnaire survey. The χ 2 test was used for intergroup comparisons. Chi-square trend test was used to conduct trend analysis. Multilevel Logistic regression model was employed to identify factors associated with wasting.
Results:
The overall wasting detection rate was 11.65% during 2021-2025. Over the five year period, the rate exhibited a S shaped fluctuation pattern characterized by "decline-rise-decline" and the difference across years was statistically significant ( χ 2=230.53, P <0.05). Multilevel Logistic regression analysis showed that male students ( OR = 1.63 ), primary school students ( OR =1.53) and junior high school students ( OR =1.12), boarding students ( OR =1.08), and students with adequate sleep duration ( OR =1.12) were positively correlated with the risk of wasting (all P <0.05). Students who consumed sugar sweetened beverages ≥1 time/day ( OR =0.93), ate fresh fruit ≥1 time/day ( OR =0.95), had moderate to vigorous physical activity for more than 60 minutes per day ( OR =0.88), and had moderate to vigorous physical activity for more than 60 minutes per day on more than half of weekend days ( OR =0.88) were negatively correlated with the risk of wasting (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
Wasting status among primary and secondary school students in Guangxi improved between 2021 and 2025, though fluctuations persisted. Greater attention should be paid to the nutritional status of male students and boarding students. While cultivating balanced dietary habits and appropriate exercise behaviors, the complex relationship between sleep and malnutrition should also be given due consideration.

Objective: To investigate the incidence and independent risk factors of adverse events (AEs) associated with therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), and to provide evidence to support the safe use of TPE in clinical practice. Methods: This retrospective study included 167 allo-HSCT recipients who underwent a total of 385 TPE procedures between March 2022 and December 2023. Patients were divided into two groups according to the occurrence of TPE-related AEs. Baseline characteristics, plasma exchange parameters, and clinical features were collected. Univariate analysis and multivariable Firth logistic regression were performed to identify independent risk factors for AEs. Results: A total of 385 TPE procedures were performed in 167 allo-HSCT patients, and 33 patients (19.8%) experienced TPE-related AEs. Among the 33 patients who experienced AEs, allergic reactions were the most common (n=18, 54.5%), followed by blood pressure fluctuations (n=11, 33.3%) and hypocalcemia (n=4, 12.1%). Most AEs were classified as grade II (n=23, 69.7%), and no grade IV (fatal) events were observed. Univariate analysis demonstrated a significant difference in the incidence of AEs among different hematocrit (HCT) categories (<20%, 20%-30%, and>30%) (Fisher's exact test, P=0.022). Although the overall difference was statistically significant, none of the pairwise comparisons remained significant after Bonferroni correction (adjusted P>0.0167). Multivariable Firth logistic regression identified higher HCT levels, analyzed as a continuous variable (OR=1.07, 95% CI: 1.01-1.13, P=0.020), and TPE performed for cytokine release syndrome (CRS) (OR=9.21, 95% CI: 1.25-78.00, P=0.030) as potential independent risk factors for TPE-related AEs. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that HCT had an AUC of 0.67 (95% CI: 0.57-0.77) for predicting AEs, with an optimal cutoff value of 24.5%, a sensitivity of 60.6%, and a specificity of 75.4%. Using this cutoff, the AEs rate was significantly higher in patients with HCT≥24.5% than in those with HCT<24.5% (37.7% vs 11.4%, P<0.001). Conclusion: A-mong allo-HSCT patients receiving TPE, allergic reactions were the predominant AEs. Higher HCT levels and TPE performed for CRS may be associated with an increased risk of AEs. HCT≥24.5% may help identify patients requiring intensified monitoring, although its discriminatory ability is moderate (AUC=0.67) and it should not be used as a standalone criterion for clinical decision-making. Findings regarding the CRS subgroup require validation in larger cohorts. Optimizing extracorporeal circuit priming and strengthening peri-procedural monitoring may help improve the safety of TPE.
3.Association between medium to long term ambient PM 2.5 exposure and overweight/obesity among primary and secondary school students
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(7):937-940
Objective:
To investigate the association between medium to long term PM 2.5 exposure around school areas and overweight/obesity among primary and secondary school students in Guangxi, providing data support and theoretical foundations for scientifically addressing overweight and obesity in primary and secondary school students.
Methods:
From September to November 2023, a stratified cluster random sampling method was employed to select 251 183 students aged 7-18 years (grade 1 to grade 12) from 14 prefecture level cities (111 districts and counties) in Guangxi. PM 2.5 mass concentration data were obtained from the Tracking Air Pollution in China (TAP) dataset. Preliminary comparative analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney U test, while binary Logistic regression models were applied to quantify the relationship between PM 2.5 exposure and overweight/obesity. Restricted cubic spline analysis was further utilized to examine the nonlinear association between PM 2.5 concentration and overweight/obesity risk.
Results:
The detection rate of overweight/obesity among Guangxi students in 2023 was 19.5%. The median PM 2.5 concentration in the year prior to the study was higher in the overweight/obesity group (23.22 μg/m 3) compared to the non overweight/obesity group (22.63 μg/m 3) ( Z=-15.66, P <0.01), and consistent trends were observed across gender (male/female) and educational stage (primary/junior/senior high school) subgroups (all P <0.01). Binary Logistic regression revealed that for every 10 μg/m 3 increase in the annual average PM 2.5 concentration, the risk of overweight/obesity increased by 12% ( OR=1.12, 95%CI=1.09- 1.15 , P <0.01). Restricted cubic spline analysis indicated a nonlinear relationship between monthly PM 2.5 levels and overweight/obesity risk ( P trend <0.01). Below 22.68 μg/m 3, PM 2.5 exposure showed no significant association with obesity risk; above the threshold, the risk increased with rising PM 2.5 levels.
Conclusion
Medium to long term PM 2.5 exposure around school environments is significantly associated with overweight/obesity among primary and secondary school students.

Objective To characterize the changing species distribution and antibiotic resistance profiles of respiratory isolates in hospitals participating in the CHINET Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Program from 2015 to 2021.Methods Commercial automated antimicrobial susceptibility testing systems and disk diffusion method were used to test the susceptibility of respiratory bacterial isolates to antimicrobial agents following the standardized technical protocol established by the CHINET program. Results A total of 589 746 respiratory isolates were collected from 2015 to 2021.Overall,82.6%of the isolates were Gram-negative bacteria and 17.4%were Gram-positive bacteria. The bacterial isolates from outpatients and inpatients accounted for(6.0±0.9)%and(94.0±0.1)%,respectively.The top microorganisms were Klebsiella spp.,Acinetobacter spp.,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Staphylococcus aureus,Haemophilus spp.,Stenotrophomonas maltophilia,Escherichia coli, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Each microorganism was isolated from significantly more males than from females(P<0.05).The overall prevalence of methicillin-resistant S.aureus(MRSA)was 39.9%.The prevalence of penicillin-resistant S.pneumoniae was 1.4%.The prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase(ESBL)-producing E.coli and K.pneumoniae was 67.8%and 41.3%,respectively.The overall prevalence of carbapenem-resistant E.coli,K.pneumoniae,Enterobacter cloacae,Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii was 3.7%,20.8%,9.4%,29.8%,and 73.3%,respectively.The prevalence of β-lactamase was 96.1%in Moraxella catarrhalis and 60.0%in Haemophilus influenzae. The H.influenzae isolates from children(<18 years)showed significantly higher resistance rates to β-lactam antibiotics than the isolates from adults(P<0.05).Conclusions Gram-negative bacteria are still predominant in respiratory isolates associated with serious antibiotic resistance.Antimicrobial resistance surveillance should be strengthened in clinical practice to support accurate etiological diagnosis and appropriate antimicrobial therapy based on antimicrobial susceptibility testing results.
