Chinese Journal of Blood Transfusion 2026;39(4):519-525
Objective: To explore the impact of different blood donation scenarios on population characteristics and blood donation behaviors, and to provide a basis for precise blood donation recruitment. Methods: Eligible voluntary blood donors with complete records from four scenarios in Xi'an: medical institutions, cultural tourism SITES, commercial superstores, and blood centers. After a preliminary analysis of overall donor characteristics across the four scenarios, three core subgroups were defined based on scenarios and donor population differences: the medical subgroup (aged 30-39 years), the blood center subgroup (aged 30-39 years), and the cultural tourism and commercial superstore subgroup (aged 18-29 years). Baseline characteristics, blood donation behaviors, and blood test results were compared among the subgroups. Results: The blood donors in all four scenarios were mainly male, but the proportion of female donors in the medical scenario was the highest (26.4%, 8 878/33 634). In terms of age distribution, the cultural tourism and commercial superstore scenarios were dominated by donors aged 18-29, while the blood center and medical scenarios were dominated by those aged 30-39, with the highest proportion of donors over 40 in the medical scenario. The occupational and educational composition of blood donors in the blood center scenario spanned a wide range, exhibiting a clear bipolar distribution. Significant differences were observed in baseline characteristics, blood donation behaviors, and blood test results among the three core subgroups (P<0.001). The medical subgroup was mainly composed of enterprise/industrial workers and married individuals, with high proportions of first-time blood donors, and the highest unqualified rate of infectious indicators (2.0%, 274/13 509). The cultural tourism and commercial superstore subgroup was mainly unmarried and students, featured high proportions of large-volume donations and evening donations, and had a relatively high unqualified rate for ALT (0.4%, 130/31 443). The blood center subgroup had a complex population structure, a high proportion of repeat blood donors (45.3%, 6449/14 225), and moderate results in all test indicators. Conclusion: There is an inherent correlation between the attributes of blood donation scenarios, population characteristics, and blood donation behaviors. The differences among the three core subgroups provide a clear basis for precise scenario operation. By constructing transformation channels between different scenarios and optimizing scenario-specific strategies, the structure of blood donors can be improved, thereby supporting the sustainable development of voluntary blood donation.

Objective:To investigate the distribution of iodine in drinking water in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and provide a basis for delineation of different types of water iodine areas and the adoption of targeted prevention and control measures, as well as scientific adjustment of intervention strategies. Methods:Using cross-sectional survey method, from June to December in 2017, a survey on the distribution of water iodine was conducted in the entire autonomous region on a township (street, Sumu, abbreviated as township) basis in accordance with the requirements of the "National Survey Plan for Iodine Content in Drinking Water". For townships with water iodine level greater than 10 μg/L found in the survey, the survey was conducted on an administrative village (community, Gacha, abbreviated as administrative village) basis. The water iodine of regions with water iodine level greater than 100 μg/L found in the survey were reviewed in 2018 - 2019. Arsenic-cerium catalytic spectrophotometry was used to test water iodine. Results:A total of 1 009 townships of 103 counties (cities, districts) were surveyed on a township by township basis, with a median water iodine of 6.7 μg/L. Among them, there were 707 townships with water iodine < 10 μg/L, accounting for 70.1%. There were 251 townships with water iodine of 10 - < 40 μg/L, accounting for 24.9%. There were 44 townships with water iodine of 40 - 100 μg/L, accounting for 4.4%. There were 7 townships with water iodine > 100 μg/L, accounting for 0.7%. A total of 3 326 administrative village of 298 townships were surveyed based on administrative villages, among which, 791 villages had water iodine < 10 μg/L, accounting for 23.8%. There were 2 031 villages with water iodine of 10 - < 40 μg/L, accounting for 61.1%. There were 468 villages with water iodine of 40 - 100 μg/L, accounting for 14.1%. There were 36 administrative villages with water iodine > 100 μg/L, accounting for 1.1%. After review, 96 administrative villages in 12 townships of 4 league cities had water iodine > 100 μg/L.Conclusions:Most areas in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region are iodine deficiency areas, and there are localized areas with high iodine levels due to water sources. Different iodine supplementation or iodine reduction measures should be taken for areas with different water iodine levels.

To construct a subgenomic replication subsystem of foot-and-mouth disease virus(FM-DV)carrying fluorescent protein(UnaG),the full-length cDNA plasmid of FMDV was employed as the template.A few of structural and non-structural protein genes of FMDV were removed by double-enzyme digestion.By substituting reporter gene sequences expressing the green fluorescent protein UnaG for specific structural protein sequences of FMDV,FMDV-UnaG replicators were successfully created. After PCR and sequencing, linearized FMDV-UnaG replicons were transfected into BSR/T7 cells expressing T7 RNA polymerase, and the fluorescence signal was observed through fluorescence microscopy and laser confocal technique. The results demonstrated that the constructed FMDV-UnaG replicons could effectively express UnaG protein, and the protein colo-calized with FMDV 3A protein.Additionally,Western blot and RT-qPCR also detected that the replicator RNA could express the non-structural proteins of the virus and replicate autonomously in BSR/T7 cells, respectively. In conclusion, the successful construction of FMDV-UnaG sub-genomic replicators offers a favorable tool for further research on the replication and translation mechanism of FMDV and the development of vaccine vectors.
