Background:
Adrenocortical hormones, particularly 11-oxygenated androgens, are pivotal in female reproductive health and fertility. Standardized detection kits and population-specific reference intervals are lacking in China, hindering related clinical applications.
Methods:
A HPLC-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) pipeline was developed, rigorously validated, and applied to simultaneously quantify corticosterone, cortisone, cortisol, 18-OH cortisol, androstenedione (A4), 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione (11-OH A4), dehydroepiandrosterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate in serum samples from 455 reproductive-aged women (18–45 yrs) in Guangxi, China. Age-dependent concentration trends were analyzed, and reference intervals stratified by age (2.5th to 97.5th percentiles) were established. Correlations with body-composition metrics, ethnicity, and the menstrual cycle were investigated.
Results:
The HPLC-MS/MS method demonstrated high precision (intra- and inter-assay CVs < 15%), accuracy, and sensitivity. All eight hormones exhibited significant age-related declines (P < 0.001 for seven hormones; P = 0.001 for 11-OH A4). Notably, 11-OH A4 levels were significantly lower in the 35–45-yr (3.05 nmol/L) and 25–34-yr (3.09 nmol/L) age groups than in the 18–24-yr (3.57 nmol/L) age group, whereas no significant difference was observed between the 35–45-yr and 25–34-yr age groups. Weak negative correlations were observed between the body mass index and corticosterone and cortisone levels, whereas ethnicity and the menstrual cycle showed no significant associations with hormone levels.
Conclusions
We developed an HPLC-MS/MS-based method for simultaneously quantifying eight adrenocortical hormones, including 11-OH A4, and defined age-specific reference intervals for reproductive-aged Chinese women. These findings advance the clinical utility of adrenocortical hormones in diagnosing and managing reproductive disorders.

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a technique that uses an array of electrodes to deliver safe stimulating currents and measures the boundary voltages between adjacent electrode pairs in the array in sequence. Subsequently, it reconstructs the impedance distribution in all or part of the tissue using reconstruction algorithms to achieve structural and functional imaging. Lung EIT technology features continuity, being radiation-free and non-invasive, and it can be used for real-time dynamic monitoring of the lungs in critically ill patients. This paper introduces the basic principles of lung EIT, analyzes the research progress and existing problems of the technology from the perspectives of hardware systems, imaging algorithms, and clinical applications (such as lung ventilation, lung perfusion, and lung function assessment), and discusses the development direction to provide ideas for expanding the clinical application of lung EIT.

Genomic imprinting refers to the phenomenon of differential expression of two alleles due to their different parental origins. Genes that produce genomic imprinting are usually called imprinted genes. The genetic effect caused by the presence of imprinted genes is called parent-of-origin effect. Parent-of-origin effect and genomic imprinting play important roles in the pathophysiological mechanism and occurrence and development of cardio-metabolic diseases. In-depth exploration of the law and potential roles of imprinted genes and parent-of-origin effects will help to better understand the mechanism of cardio-metabolic diseases, and also provide important theoretical basis for the precise treatment of diseases related to imprinted genes.

Objective:To explore the spousal correlations of total cholesterol(TC),total triglyceride(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),and to investigate the reasons behind these spousal correlations. Methods:Participants and data were from the baseline survey of family-based cohort studies in Fangshan,Beijing and Tulou,Fujian. The ori-gin of spousal correlations were explored from perspectives of convergence, assortative mating, social ho-mogamy.Pearson's correlation and generalized linear models(GLM)were used to estimate the spousal correlation.Convergence was assessed by Pearson's correlation between the phenotypic differences be-tween couples and the duration of marriage, with GLM used for further validation.Pearson's correlation of genetic risk scores(GRS)and couple-specific Mendelian randomization(MR)were calculated to assess the genetic correlation and possible causal relationships between spouses.Two-independent-sample t-tests were used to compare GRS consistency across subgroups divided by education attainment,couple-specific MR and Q statistics used to test assortative mating in subgroups and intergroup differences. Results:In the study,342 couples(287 couples from Fangshan and 55 couples from Fujian)were included, with the average age of(64.91±8.76)years.Spousal correlations of TC,TG,HDL-C,and LDL-C showed statistically significant associations both before and after adjusting for covariates, with effect sizes of 0.229(95%CI:0.125-0.327),0.257(95%CI:0.155-0.354),0.179(95%CI:0.074-0.280),and 0.181(95%CI:0.076-0.282).For convergence, for each additional year of marriage,ΔTC increased by 0.016 mmol/L(95%CI:0.001-0.033 mmol/L),and ΔLDL-C increased by 0.017 mmol/L(95%CI:0.002-0.031 mmol/L).For assortative mating,GRS correlations and results of couple specific MR didn't show any statistical significance. For social homogamy,no differences in GRS or assortative mating were found between subgroups stratified by education attainment. Conclusion:The blood lipid in participants exhibit spousal phenotypic correlations, however,no effects of convergence, assortative mating or social homogamy were observed.More independent studies with larger sample sizes are warranted to further validate these findings in the future.

Purpose To analyze the imaging features of juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) in children and to improve the diagnostic level of JXG. Materials and Methods The clinical and imaging data of 15 children with JXG confirmed by menstrual biopsy or surgical pathology from January 2011 to December 2023 in Hunan Children's Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. 13 cases underwent CT examinations and 7 cases underwent MRI examinations,of which 5 underwent both MRI and CT examinations. The type, number, involved site, lesion signal, density and enhancement characteristics of JXG were observed and analyzed. Results Of the 15 children with JXG,7 cases were systemic. It involves the central nervous system (5 cases, including pineal region, choroid plexus, cranial sublamina, middle cranial fossa and spinal canal),mastoid process (1 case),liver (3 cases),kidney (3 cases),pancreas (1 case) and lung (2 cases),mainly manifested as single or multiple nodular, mass or patchy lesions in different organs. On MRI,the lesions showed slightly higher or lower or mixed signals on T1WI,low/slightly lower or higher or mixed signals on T2WI,unrestricted or limited diffusion, and significantly enhanced or slightly enhanced enhancement. On CT,the lesions showed patchy, clumpy or nodular low-density or high-density shadows, and the enhancement was mild to moderate uneven enhancement or obvious enhancement. 8 patients with simple skin type showed nodular shadow of subcutaneous soft tissue, equal or slightly low signal on T1WI,slightly low/low signal on T2WI and obvious enhancement. CT showed a slightly low/equal/slightly high density image, and the enhancement showed a slightly enhanced/significantly enhanced image. Conclusion JXG mainly presents as single or multiple nodules and clumps in subcutaneous soft tissues and/or various organs, with increased signal on T1WI,decreased signal on T2WI,decreased or increased diffusion and obvious enhancement. The CT and MRI manifestations of JXG have certain characteristics.
