BACKGROUND: Parental myopia is an important risk factor for myopia in Chinese children and adolescents. This study aimed to assess the influence of parental myopia and the severity of myopia on offspring and to evaluate whether adopting healthy lifestyles can mitigate the effects of parental myopia on offspring. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed data from children and adolescents aged 6-17 years with complete vision assessments and parental history of myopia from six provinces in China during 2013-2014. Parental demographic information, children's outdoor activity time, sleep time, and sedentary time were collected via questionnaire. Parental myopia was classified as no myopia, paternal myopia, maternal myopia, and both. The offspring were categorized into 10 groups based on parental myopia prescription. Associations of the above factors with myopia in children and adolescents were evaluated by logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Among 40,864 children and adolescents (50.3% boys and 49.7% girls), 22,537 (55.2%) were diagnosed with myopia. In comparison to offspring devoid of parental myopia, children with one parent affected by myopia exhibited odds ratio (OR) of 1.75 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.62-1.88) for myopia, while those with both parents affected showed OR of 2.27 (95% CI: 2.02-2.55) after adjusted for lifestyle factors. The likelihood of myopia in offspring increased with increasing severity of parental myopia, with a 3.08-fold increase in risk observed when both parents presented high myopia. Nonetheless, children adhering to two or more healthy lifestyle factors demonstrated a diminished risk of myopia compared with those with fewer than two lifestyle factors, especially among offspring of non-myopic or mildly myopic parents. CONCLUSIONS Parental myopia has a dose-dependent association with their offspring. Healthy lifestyles may reduce the impact of parental factors on myopia in offspring. The observed associations suggest that although the genetic burden of parental myopia cannot be ignored, healthy lifestyles and nurturing are also very important.

Objective:To compare the prognostic values of different classification by using transpulmonary pressure gradient (TPG), diastolic pressure gradient (DPG) and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) in patients with pulmonary hypertension due to left heart disease (PH-LHD), and investigated hemodynamic and clinical factors associated with mortality in patients with PH-LHD.Methods:This was a single-center prospective cohort study. In-hospital patients diagnosed with PH-LHD via right heart catheterization at the Department of Cardiology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, from September 2013 to December 2019 were enrolled. Patients were divided according to TPG (cutoff value 12 mmHg; 1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), DPG (cutoff value 7 mmHg), PVR (cutoff value 3 Wood Units), and the combination of TPG and PVR. Baseline characteristic was recorded. All patients were followed up until the occurrence of endpoint event, defined as all-cause death that occurred during the follow-up period, or until April 18, 2022. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to compare the predictive value of 3 classification methods for all-cause death in PH-LHD patients. The optimal cutoff values were calculated using Jorden index. Survival analysis was performed using Kaplan-Meier analysis, and log-rank test was used to compare the predictive efficacy of classification methods based on optimal cutoff values or guidance-recommended thresholds for the survival of PH-LHD patients. Variables showing statistical significance in the univariate analysis were incorporated into multivariate Cox regression model to analyze the independent risk factors for all-cause mortality.Results:A total of 243 patients were enrolled, aged (54.9±12.7) years old, including 169 (69.5%) males. During a median follow-up of 57 months, there were 101 (41.6%) deaths occurred. Grouping results were as follows: (1) TPG: TPG≤12 mmHg group 115 patients, TPG>12 mmHg group 128 patients; (2) DPG: DPG<7 mmHg group 193 patients, DPG≥7 mmHg group 50 patients; (3) PVR: PVR≤3 Wood Units group 108 patients, PVR>3 Wood Units group 135 patients; (4) TPG and PVR: TPG≤12 mmHg and PVR≤3 Wood Units group 89 patients, TPG>12 mmHg and PVR>3 Wood Units group 109 patients. PVR ( AUC=0. 698,95% CI:0.631-0.766) had better predictive value for all-cause mortality than TPG ( AUC=0.596, 95% CI: 0.523-0.669) and DPG ( AUC=0.526, 95% CI: 0.452-0.601) (all P<0.05). The optimal cutoff values for TPG, DPG, and PVR were13.9 mmHg, 2.8 mmHg, and 3.8 Wood Units, respectively. Kaplan-Meier analysis based on the optimal cutoff values or guidance-recommended thresholds showed that PVR and TPG were the predictors of survival ( P<0.05), while DPG did not showed significance ( P>0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that age, PVR and log 2N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide were independent risk factors for all-cause mortality in PH-LHD patients (all P<0.05). Conclusion:Classification according to PVR was most valuable in predicting all-cause death in PH-LHD patients, while TPG showed moderate predictive ability and DPG had no predictive value.

Objective:To explore the effect of chronic incomplete sleep deprivation (SD) on ovarian reserve function in mice and its potential mechanisms.Methods:Sixteen 7-8 week old female C57BL/6 SPF mice were randomly divided into control and SD groups ( n=8 per group) after one week of acclimatization. The mice in the SD group were treated with SD from 7:00 to 10:00 using a deprivation rod for a total of 40 d. Before the first day and the last day of the experiment, vaginal smears were collected daily for 9 d to record and evaluate the estrous cycle. On the last day of the experiment, serum levels of estradiol, progesterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and melatonin (MT) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The ovaries were dissected to calculate the ovarian index and count the number of primordial follicles by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Cardiac perfusion was performed to get the brains and the expression of c-Fos protein was observed in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) by immunohistochemistry. Results:Compared with control group, SD group had a tendency of estrous cycle disorders. Hormone levels of estradiol [(20.19±3.67) ng/L], progesterone [(2.88±0.53) μg/L], and FSH [(13.42±2.36) U/L] in the SD group were significantly lower than those in control group [(24.66±2.15) ng/L, P=0.010; (3.43±0.49) μg/L, P=0.049; (17.01±1.49) U/L, P=0.003]. Hormone levels of LH and MT in the SD group were lower than those in control group, but without statistical significances (all P>0.05). There was no significant change in the number of primordial follicles between the two groups ( P>0.05). However, the oocyte morphology was poor, the granulosa cells were disorderedly arranged, the number of atretic follicles was decreased, and ovarian fibrosis was obvious in the SD group. Immunohistochemical staining showed an upregulation of c-Fos protein expression in the SCN of the SD group. Conclusion:Continuous 3 h SD for 40 d impairs ovarian reserve function in mice, possibly related to excessive activation of the SCN.

Objective: To analyze the prevalence trend of scoliosis among myopic students in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region during 2019-2022, to explore the common etiology of myopia and scoliosis co-morbidities, so as to provide a reference for the development of relevant measures. Methods: The method of stratified random cluster sampling was used to select 181 533, 141 552 , 200 987, 190 918 primary and secondary school students from 12 leagues(103 banners) in Inner Mongolia Atuonomous Region in September each year from 2019 to 2022. And scoliosis screening, vision examination and questionnaire survey were conducted among students in the included studies. The χ 2 test was used to analyze the data, and the binary multivariate Logistic regression model was used to screen the influencing factors of scoliosis and myopia co-morbidities. Results: From 2019 to 2022, the myopia rate of primary and secondary school students in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was 55.55%-59.72%, scoliosis rate was 1.56 %-2.81% and the rates of scoliosis and myopia co-morbidities were 1.14%-1.95%, and the difference between different years was statistically significant ( χ 2=595.01, 775.56, 461.84, P < 0.05 ). In 2022, the co-morbidity rate was higher in girls than in boys(1.32% vs 0.97%), the rate of urban areas was higher than that of rural areas(2.57% vs 0.62%), the rate of students in vocational high school and high school was higher than that in junior high school and primary school (3.82%,2.47% vs 1.70%,0.42%), the rate of over developed areas was higher than that of poor areas (1.21% vs 0.99%)( χ 2=52.19, 1 269.82, 1 361.52, 17.29, P < 0.05 ). Logistic regression analysis showed that at least 1 h of moderate and high intensity exercise every day on weekends, the number of physical education classes per week was more than 3 sessions, the height of desks and chairs was adjusted according to height, resting outdoors, limiting screen time, and strictly requiring standing and sitting posture were the negative correlated with scoliosis and myopia, and the OR value was 0.65-0.90, reading books or electronic screens while participating in cram classes, walking or riding in the car were positively correlated with comorbid scoliosis and myopia, and the OR values were 1.27 and 1.13 ( P < 0.05), respectively. Conclusion Behavioral habits severely affect scoliosis and myopic of students. Prevention and control of scoliosis and myopia co-morbidity should start with students behavioral habits, early screening and early intervention.

Objective: To analyze the prevalence of overweight, obesity and depression among students in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2019-2022 and explore the relevant factors affecting the co-morbidity of overweight,obesity and depression among students, so as to provide scientific basis for the prevention of co-morbidity. Methods: From September 2019 to 2022, used stratified random cluster sampling, 90 519,71 560,90 079,91 089 students were selected from all 12 leagues in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region for questionnaire survey and physical examination. The χ 2 test was used for demographic characteristics and univariate analysis, and a binary Logistic regression model was used to explore the association between lifestyle behaviors and co-morbidity. Results: The detection rate of overweight,obesity among students from 2019-2022 was 29.21%,34.38%,35.20%,34.61%, the detection rate of depression was 18.35%，17.53%，16.43%，16.00%, and the co-morbidity detection rate of the two was 5.52%，5.93%，5.76%，5.46%. The number of overweight,obesity and depression co-morbidity students in 2022 was 4 978 students, and the co-morbidity detection rates of the students were significantly different in terms of the school segments and the family structures ( χ 2=103.51, 99.90, P <0.01). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that consuming sugar sweetened beverages or fried food ≥1 time/d, sometimes or never eat breakfast, watching computer or TV ≥2 h/d, and less than 1 h of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity on weekends were positively correlated with the occurrence of the co-morbidity of overweight,obesity and depression, with the value of OR ranging from 1.17 to 1.59 ( P <0.05). Eated fresh fruits or drinking milk and soy milk ≥1 time/d, outdoor activities ≥1 h/d, sleep ≥8 h/d, not smoking and not drinking alcohol were negatively correlated with the occurrence of comorbid overweight,obesity and depression, with the value of OR ranging from 0.47 to 0.92 ( P < 0.05). Conclusion The occurrence of overweight,obesity and depressive symptoms co-morbidity in students is associated with dietary, exercise and lifestyle behavior. Targeted measures should be taken to maintain students healthy weight and prevent the occurrence of depression from the aspects of diet, exercise and life habits.

Autonomic nerves play a bidirectional regulatory role in the central nervous system and enteric nervous system， influencing gastrointestinal motility， digestion， and absorption. Heart rate variability has been increasingly studied as an index to assess autonomic function in functional gastrointestinal disorders （FGIDs）. This article reviews the role of autonomic nerves in the pathophysiological process of FGIDs and related clinical applications， with the aim to provide new ideas for the research and clinical treatment of FGIDs.

Objective To find the differentially expressed long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) between db/db mice that with nephropathy (DN) or not (DM).Methods In this study,3 DM db/db mice and 2 DN db/db mice proven by renal biopsy were randomly selected,and 3 healthy db/m mice as normal control group.Then,differentially expressed lncRNAs,mRNAs and their fragments per kilobase million (FPKM) in kidney samples were detected by high-throughput next generation sequencing technology.Sequencing data were analyzed to filter out the differentially expressed lncRNA,and theirfunction was preliminarily investigated by bioinformatics analysis and functional enrichment analysis to predict their target genes.Total RNAs of kidneys from these 8 mice were extracted to run real time PCR (RT-qPCR) for verifying the outcomes of the high-throughput sequencing.Results The urinary microalbumin/creatinine ratio (UACR),serum creatinine,and glomerular basement membrane thickness of DN db/db mice were higher than those of DM db/db mice (all P ＜ 0.05),while there was not significant difference in glucose between DM and DN mice.Totally 160 lncRNAs were up-regulated and 99 lncRNAs were down-regulated in kidneys of DN mice compared with those of DM mice,in which the differentially expressed lncRNAs with FPKM value≥2 and differential expression≥ 1 fold between groups were screened and verified by RT-qPCR.Finally three lncRNAs whose variation trend were consistent with the outcomes of the high-throughput sequencing were obtained.Conclusion There was a significantly different expression pattern of lncRNA between the kidneys of DN and DM mice,which may be involved in the progress of DN.

Objective To evaluate the effect of over-expression of phosphatase and tensin homolog does on chromosome ten (PTEN) in podocytes on kidney under high fat diet (HFD) in vivo and clarify the mechanism how PTEN regulates scavenger receptor A (SR-A) expression exposed to oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in podocytes in vitro.Methods The podocyte-specific PTEN knockin (PPKI) mice were fed with HFD to establish mouse model of lipid-induced renal injury.Mice were divided into four groups:ND+Ctrl group,ND+PPKI group,HFD+Ctrl group and HFD+PPKI group.After 24 weeks of dietary intervention,all mice were tested for clinical and biochemical parameters,including serum creatinine (Scr) as well as urine albumin excretion rate (UAER);renal lipid content was measured by oil red O staining and cholesterol quantitative analysis;the pathological changes of glomeruli were observed by PAS staining and electron microscope.Podocyte injury was induced by ox-LDL in vitro.Western blotting was used to detect the changes of SR-A expression induced by ox-LDL after YAP-siRNA interfering (si-YAP),as well as YAP phosphorylation induced by ox-LDL after interfering by PTEN-siRNA (si-PTEN) and PTEN phosphatase inhibitor (Bpv-PTEN),and overexpressing by recombinant adenovirus (ad-PTEN).Results Compared with ND+Ctrl group,HFD+ Ctrl group significantly aggravated the levels of Scr and UAER,the expression of SR-A in podocytes,renal lipid content,mesangial matrix expansion,effacement of podocyte foot processes,and incrassation of glomerular basement membrane (all P ＜ 0.05).Conversely,compared with HFD+Ctrl group,HFD+ PPKI group obviously alleviated the above lipid-induced renal damage (all P ＜ 0.05).In vitro,the expression of SR-A in podocytes was up-regulated when stimulated with ox-LDL (P ＜ 0.05),and the knockout of YAP significantly down-regulated the expression of SR-A induced by ox-LDL (P ＜ 0.05).Exposed to ox-LDL,the expression of p-YAP increased in podocytes (P ＜ 0.05);over-expression of PTEN inhibited p-YAP up-regulation induced by ox-LDL (P ＜ 0.05),while either knockdown of PTEN or inhibition of PTEN phosphatase activity displayed opposite effect (all P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Over-expression of PTEN in podocytes protected the kidney against damage from HFD in vivo and PTEN might suppress SR-A mediated lipid uptake via dephosphorylating p-YAP to prevent podocyte injury from ox-LDL.

Objective To explore the clinical effectiveness and reliability of combined acetabular quadrilateral surface plates for the treatment of both column fractures.Methods From June 2016 to August 2017,data of 15 cases with acetabular both column fractures who were treated in our department were retrospectively analyzed.Among them 9 cases were male and 6 were female.The mean age was 42.8 years (range,26-68 years).All cases were both column fractures according to the LetournelJudet's classification,including 4 cases combined with posterior wall fracture.Before operation,the pelvic CT thin layer scanning data of patients were collected in DICOM format,and then the data were imported to print the simulated model by 3D printing technology in order to understand the characteristics of fracture directly.The contralateral half pelvis was mirror printed in order to simulate the placement of combined quadrilateral surface plates and preshape all plates.During operation,infrapectineal main plate,pubo-ischiatic plate and ilio-ischiatic plate were placed consequently to fix the anterior column,"middle column" and posterior column respectively.The pubo-ischiatic and ilio-ischiatic plates were combined with the main plate.All cases were operated by supra-ilioinguinal approach.Results The average incision length was 11 cm (range,9-13 cm).The average operative time was 150 min (range,100-240 min).The average blood loss was 850 ml (range,600-1500 ml).Once reduction was obtained,plates could be placed easily and adhere to bone surface well.The quality of postoperative fracture reduction was evaluated according to Matta standard,of which there were 9 cases excellent,4 cases good,and 2 cases poor,with an excellent rate of 86.7％ (13/15).All patients were followed up for an average time of 10 months (range,6-12 months).At the latest follow-up,the average modified Merle d'Aubigne and Postel score was 16.4 (range,12-18),and there were 8 cases excellent,4 cases good,2 cases fair and 1 case poor,with an excellent rate of 80.0％ (12/15).Conclusion For the treatment of acetabular both column fractures,the combined quadrilateral surface plates could resist the medial displacement of quadrilateral area,and on the other hand the total floating posterior column and ischium could be fixed firmly.At the same time,this plate system is a multi-dimensional framework fixation,which is more effective and safer with lower complications rate,resulting in a satisfactory clinical outcomes.
