Objective To understand the antibody levels of diphtheria and tetanus among healthy population in Shanghai Pudong New Area, and to provide a scientific basis for improving the vaccine immunization strategy. Methods Random sampling was used to select healthy people of all ages in 16 communities in Shanghai Pudong New Area from 2018 to 2024, and serum samples were collected and tested for serum anti-diphtheria and tetanus toxin IgG antibodies by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method to analyze the antibody positivity rate (≥0.1 IU/ml) and the geometric mean concentration (GMC) of antibodies. Results A total of 3 312 serum samples were included, with a male-to-female ratio of 0.76:1, and 53.77% were local residents. The seropositivity rates and geometric mean concentrations (GMC) of both diphtheria and tetanus antibodies generally declined with increasing age, but exhibited a transient rebound in the 7y-. A total of 1 175 individuals (35.48%) were seropositive for diphtheria, with a GMC of 0.054 IU/mL. For tetanus, 988 individuals (29.83%) were seropositive, with a GMC of 0.033 IU/mL. Significant differences in seropositivity rates (χ2diphtheria=950.005,χ2tetanus=1 324.393) and GMC (Hdiphtheria=1027.160,Htetanus=1 142.007) were observed among different age groups (P<0.001). Significant differences in seropositivity rates (χ2diphtheria=950.005,χ2tetanus=1324.393) and GMC (Hdiphtheria=1027.160,Htetanus=1142.007) were also found across different years (P<0.001). Conclusion The prevalence of diphtheria and tetanus antibodies in the healthy population of Pudong New Area is relatively low, particularly among adults over 20 years of age with inadequate immunization. This underscores the need to reinforce the National Immunization Program (NIP) vaccine specifications for children under 6 years of age and implement an immunization strategy for adolescents or adults against diphtheria and tetanus.

OBJECTIVE To establish the UPLC fingerprint and the method for multi-component content determination in Jingangteng capsules, and to evaluate its quality by combining chemical pattern recognition analysis. METHODS An UPLC method was established. Separation was performed on a Zorbax SB-C 18 Rapid Resolution HD column, with acetonitrile-0.1% formic acid as the mobile phase for gradient elution.Using the Similarity Evaluation System for Chromatographic Fingerprints of Traditional Chinese Medicines (2012 edition), UPLC fi ngerprints were established for 10 batches of Jingangteng capsules, and similarity was evaluated. SPSS 22.0 and SIMCA 14.1 software were used to perform hierarchial-cluster analysis and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), respectively. The same UPLC method was employed to determine the contents of chlorogenic acid, 3,5-dihydroxy-2-methylbenzoic acid-3- O -glucoside (M1), caffeic acid, astilbin, oxyresveratrol, quercitrin and resveratrol in the 10 batches of samples. RESULTS A total of 17 common peaks were identified in UPLC fingerprints of the 10 batches of samples, of which 7 were identified as chlorogenic acid, M1, caffeic acid, astilbin, oxyresveratrol, quercitrin, and resveratrol. The similarities of 10 batches of samples ranged from 0.820 to 0.985. The results of hierarchial-cluster analysis showed that 10 batches of samples were grouped into four categories: S1-S4 formed one group, S5 and S6 formed another, S7, S8 and S10 formed a third, and S9 formed a fourth, consistent with the OPLS-DA results; the variable importance projection values for peaks 7, 10, 2, 16 (resveratrol), 13 (oxyresveratrol), 11, 6 (caffeic acid), 5 (M1) and 15 (quercitrin) were >1. Quantitative analysis results showed that the contents of chlorogenic acid, M1, caffeic acid, astilbin, oxyresveratrol, quercitrin, and resveratrol were 1.650 8-4.213 7, 0.636 2-2.161 7, 0.031 0-0.086 5, 0.239 1-1.069 3, 0.211 9-1.104 0, 0.488 8-2.399 2, and 0.164 0-0.699 8 mg/g, respectively. CONCLUSIONS UPLC fingerprint and content determination methods established in this study are simple to operate, accurate, reliable and reproducible; when combined with chemical pattern recognition analysis, they can be used to evaluate the quality of Jingangteng capsules. Nine components, such as resveratrol, oxyresveratrol, caffeic acid, M1 and quercitrin, may serve as markers of quality variation.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2026;47(3):425-429
Objective:
To investigate the characteristics and potential risk factors associated with HIV infection among newly reported HIV positive male student cases in Jiangsu Province from 2023 to 2024, so as to provide evidence for targeted intervention strategies.
Methods:
Data were obtained from the China CDC Surveillance System on newly reported HIV positive male student cases from 2023 to 2024. A survey was conducted to collect information on demographic characteristics, knowledge of AIDS prevention, education and training history, HIV testing history, behavioral and substance use patterns, and other relevant factors prior to HIV diagnosis among 343 newly reported HIV positive male student cases in Jiangsu Province. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the risk factors of HIV infection among male students.
Results:
Among the HIV positive male student cases, homosexual behavior accounted for 93.88% of transmission routes, while 10.20% involved heterosexual contact, as well as 4.08% for two sexual hehaviors. Awareness of HIV prevention knowledge was 97.08%, and 66.76% had previously undergone HIV testing. Among the respondents, 10.50% had used rush poppers as enhancers, and 72.30% had received HIV prevention education within the past year. Among students cases with homosexual behavior, the median time from first homosexual contact to HIV diagnosis was ≤2 years, with 54.66% of cases falling into this category; the most common way of finding same sex partners was through social software, accounting for 88.20% of cases, while the proportion of those via "Blued" app reached 87.07% ; the proportion of using condoms every time during sexual activity in the past six months was 12.27%. Among the student cases with homosexual behavior, the results of multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that student cases aged 18 to 24 ( OR =4.52) and >24 ( OR = 19.23 ), without receiving education on HIV prevention in the past year ( OR =1.86), having consistent condom use ( OR =2.73) and not using condoms ( OR =2.12) during the last sexual activity were more likely to had the first same sex sexual activity for more than 3 years before being diagnosed as HIV positive cases (all P <0.05). Student cases who were uncertain about their partner s sexual identity ( OR =0.33), and who primarily identified same sex partners through "other" means ( OR = 0.23 ) were more likely to avoid HIV testing; in contrast, student cases with consistent condom use during the last homosexual encounter ( OR =7.20) was significantly associated with increased likelihood of HIV testing (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
Newly reported HIV positive male student cases in Jiangsu Province exhibit serious discrepancies between knowledge and practice regarding HIV prevention. Measures are needed to accelerate the optimization of campus based HIV prevention education content and delivery methods. Simultaneously, enhanced management of extracurricular male populations is essential to effectively control the spread of HIV.

Objective To examine the impact of extreme temperature and drought stress on the survival of Bulinus globosus, so as to provide the theoretical evidence for the genomic research of Bulinus in absence of reference genes. Methods B. globosus snail samples were collected from Kiwani Shehia in Pemba Island, Zanzibar, Tanzania, and offspring snails were obtained through laboratory breeding and reproduction. A total of 120 10-week-old B. globosus snails from the same generation were selected and randomly assigned into four groups, including the high-temperature drought (HD) group, normal temperature drought (D) group, low-temperature drought (LD) group, and the control (C) group, of 30 snails in each group. Snails in HD, D, and LD groups were placed in beakers containing dry soil at the bottom and subsequently housed in climate chambers at 35, 26 ℃, and 10 ℃, respectively, while snails in Group C were maintained in 500 mL petri dishes containing dechlorinated tap water at 26 ℃. Following 3 days of breeding, living snails in each group were collected, and soft tissues were dissected and isolated. Total RNA was extracted from snail soft tissues for library construction, followed by high-throughput sequencing on the Illumina HiSeq 4000 sequencing system. De novo transcriptome assembly was performed using the Trinity software, and the longest transcripts were selected as unigenes. Gene functional annotations of unigenes were conducted using the Diamond software against Gene Ontology (GO) knowledgebase, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway database, NCBI non-redundant (NR) protein sequences database, Protein Family (Pfam) database, and UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot (Swiss-Prot) knowledgebase. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were performed using the topGO and clusterProfiler software, respectively. In addition, four relevant genes were selected for validation using a real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) assay to verify the reliability of transcriptome sequencing results. Results Following 3 days of breeding, there were 7, 20, 28, and 30 survival B. globosus snails in HD, LD, D, and C groups, with corresponding survival rates of 23.33% (7/30), 66.67% (20/30), 93.33% (28/30), and 100.00% (30/30), respectively (χ2 = 52.72, P < 0.001). De novo transcriptome assembly generated 176 942 unigenes, with annotation rates of 0.98%, 13.49%, 26.46%, 12.48%, and 14.39% against GO knowledgebase, KEGG pathway database, NR protein sequences database, Pfam database, and Swiss-Prot knowledgebase, respectively. There were 33 up-regulated and 72 down-regulated genes in Group D, 483 up-regulated and 815 down-regulated genes in Group HD, and 245 up-regulated and 172 down-regulated genes in Group LD relative to in Group C. Following removal of overlapping genes across groups and unmatched genes, 11 candidate genes were identified. GO and KEGG analyses revealed 3 heat shock protein (HSP)-related DEGs in these 11 candidate genes, which were annotated as HSP12.2, HSP70, and HSP20 genes and were all significantly up-regulated in each treatment group. Three immune and nervous system-related DEGs were identified, and were all significantly down-regulated in each treatment group, which were involved in the neural cell adhesion molecule L1-like protein pathway, fibrinogen binding protein pathway, and leukocyte elastase inhibitor-like protein pathway. qRT-PCR assay quantified that the expression trends of four genes related to temperature and drought stress across different treatment groups were highly consistent with transcriptome sequencing data. Conclusion The survival rate of B. globosus significantly reduces under combined stresses of extreme temperature and drought, possibly due to an imbalance in its cellular homeostasis regulatory system.

Clinical and Molecular Hepatology 2026;32(2):884-903
Background/Aims:
Liver transplantation (LT) following total hepatectomy is a life-saving treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The HCC recurrence after LT hinders the effectiveness of the procedure. The objective of this study is to develop a pre-operative risk stratification model based on a liquid biopsy.
Methods:
We conducted a comprehensive multi-omics study of 260 HCC patients from three centers, including clinical data, low-coverage whole-genome sequencing of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from plasma, as well as whole-exome, single-nucleus RNA, and spatial transcriptomics from matched tumor and non-tumor tissues.
Results:
We identified cfDNA-derived copy number alteration (CNA) signatures associated with post-transplant recurrence. By integrating cfDNA-derived CNA profiles with single-cell transcriptomic data, we traced recurrence-associated cfDNA to a distinct subpopulation of malignant cells within the primary tumor. These cells were embedded in a pro-metastatic microenvironment of specialized endothelial subtypes and cancer-associated fibroblasts. Notably, most recurrence-associated lesions were detectable in cfDNA prior to liver transplantation (LT). Building on these insights, we developed the ZJU Criteria based on CNA fragments and tumor markers, a pre-LT risk prediction tool that integrates conventional clinical factors with cfDNA-derived CNA signatures, and validated it using internal and independent external cohorts.
Conclusion
Our findings suggest that post-transplant recurrence commonly originates from advanced subclones that emerge late during tumor evolution. The ZJU Criteria provides an accurate, non-invasive strategy that significantly improves pre-LT risk stratification and clinical decision-making for patients with HCC.

Recent Advances in Ophthalmology 2025;45(12):956-961
Objective To explore the protective effect of Bilobalide on retinal ganglion cells(RGCs)in rats with op-tic nerve injury and its mechanism. Methods Sixty rats were randomly selected from 75 Sprague-Dawley rats to establish an optic nerve crush injury model. The 60 successfully modeled rats were then randomly divided into a model group, and low-,medium-,and high-dose Bilobalide groups, with 15 rats in each group.Another 15 rats served as the sham-operated group, undergoing optic nerve exposure without crushing.Rats in the low-,medium-,and high-dose Bilobalide groups were intraperitoneally injected with 5,10 and 20 mg·kg-1 Bilobalide, respectively, once daily for 7 days.Rats in the sham-operated and model groups were intraperitoneally injected with an equal volume of normal saline once daily for 7 days. The superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity and malondialdehyde(MDA)content in the retinal tissue of rats in each group were measured.Immunofluorescence staining was used to assess RGCs proliferation.Hematoxylin-eosin(HE)stai-ning was used to observe histopathological changes in the retinal structure.TUNEL staining was used to detect RGCs apop-tosis.Immunofluorescence staining was used to observe the activation state of retinal microglia.Western blot was used to detect the expression of growth-associated protein 43(GAP43)and proteins related to the extracellular signal-regulated ki-nase 1/2(ERK1/2)pathway.Results Compared with the sham-operated group, the model group showed significantly decreased SOD activity and increased MDA content in the retinal tissue(all P<0.05),a significant decrease in RGCs densi-ty(P<0.05),significant increases in the apoptosis rate and microglial activation ratio(all P<0.05),and significant downregulation of p-ERK1/2 and GAP43 protein expression(all P<0.05).Histomorphology revealed edema and vacuola-tion in the ganglion cell layer, disordered arrangement of RGCs,and thinning of the inner nuclear layer and outer nuclear layer in the model group. After intervention with various doses of Bilobalide, all the above indices were significantly im-proved(all P<0.05):SOD activity increased,MDA content decreased,RGCs density recovered,RGCs apoptosis rate and microglial activation decreased, the expressions of p-ERK1/2 and GAP43 were upregulated, the structural damage to each retinal layer was alleviated, showing a dose-dependent recovery. Conclusion Bilobalide can exert a protective effect on RGCs after optic nerve injury through multiple mechanisms, including alleviating oxidative stress, inhibiting apoptosis and microglial overactivation, promoting axonal regeneration, and activating the ERK1/2 signaling pathway.

Chinese Journal of Endemiology 2025;44(7):543-549
Objective:To investigate the situation of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in elderly people in fluorosis areas, and analyze its potential influencing factors. Methods:From April to October 2020, a cluster random sampling method was used to select local elderly people aged 60 and older in areas of drinking-water-borne endemic fluorosis in Tianjin, and their general information was collected through face-to-face surveys. Terminal drinking water samples were collected from survey subjects. Water fluoride concentration was measured using ion-selective electrode method. Cognitive function was evaluated using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and survey subjects were categorized into MCI group and control group based on MMSE scores. Logistic regression and Chi-squared automatic interaction detection classification tree models were constructed to analyze the influencing factors of MCI.Results:A total of 677 subjects were included, including 160 cases in the MCI group and 517 cases in the control group, with a MCI detection rate of 23.63%. The detection rates of MCI in the high fluoride exposure group and non high fluoride exposure group were 30.82% (94/305) and 17.74% (66/372), respectively, with a statistically significant difference between the groups (χ 2 = 15.88, P < 0.001). The results of univariate analysis showed that MCI was associated with high fluoride exposure, age, per capita annual household income, sleep duration, personality, and interpersonal relationships (χ 2 = 15.88, 16.17, 12.32, 8.91, 14.03, 9.81, P < 0.05). The results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed that moderate interpersonal relationships ( OR = 2.13, 95% CI: 1.08, 4.20) and high fluoride exposure ( OR = 1.91, 95% CI: 1.03, 3.54) were both risk factors for MCI ( P < 0.05). The classification tree model analysis result showed that high fluoride exposure was the primary factor affecting MCI in elderly people in fluorosis areas, followed by per capita annual household income, personality, and age. Conclusions:The detection rate of MCI in the high fluoride exposure group of elderly people in fluorosis areas is higher than that in the non high fluoride exposure group. High fluoride exposure, interpersonal relationships, per capita annual household income, personality, and age are all influencing factors of MCI in elderly people in fluorosis areas.

Objective:To learn about the iodine nutrition status of pregnant women in Tianjin and analyze the influencing factors of moderate to severe iodine deficiency in pregnant women. Methods:From January 2022 to December 2024, a stratified random sampling method was adopted. Each year, five sampling areas were divided into the east, west, south, north and central directions in 16 districts of Tianjin. Ten pregnant women from one township/street in each area were selected for questionnaire surveys. Household salt samples and random urine samples were collected to measure salt iodine and urinary iodine levels. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of moderate to severe iodine deficiency in pregnant women, and a restricted cubic spline model was used to analyze the dose-response relationship between the risk of moderate to severe iodine deficiency in pregnant women and salt iodine level. Results:A total of 2 532 pregnant women in Tianjin were surveyed, with an age of (30.70 ± 4.44) years. Among them, 53.20% (1 347/2 532) had received health education, and 52.45% (1 328/2 532) actively supplemented iodine. A total of 2 532 household salt samples of pregnant women were tested, with a median salt iodine level of 23.66 mg/kg. The coverage rate of iodized salt was 74.45% (1 885/2 532), the qualified rate of iodized salt was 87.59% (1 651/1 885), and the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 65.21% (1 651/2 532). A total of 2 532 urine samples of pregnant women were tested, with a median urinary iodine level of 151.68 μg/L. Among them, 652, 1 348 and 532 urine samples were collected from pregnant women in the early, middle, and late stages of pregnancy, respectively, with median urinary iodine levels of 150.80, 153.00 and 143.68 μg/L, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that consuming iodized salt was a protective factor for the moderate to severe iodine deficiency in pregnant women ( OR = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.58 - 0.86, P < 0.001). Restricted cubic spline analysis showed that there was a linear dose-response relationship between the risk of moderate to severe iodine deficiency in pregnant women and salt iodine level ( Poverall < 0.001, Pnonlinear = 0.065). Further stratified analysis revealed that there was a linear dose-response relationship between the risk of moderate to severe iodine deficiency in pregnant women who had received iodine supplementation and salt iodine level ( Poverall = 0.018, Pnonlinear = 0.554), while there was a nonlinear dose-response relationship between the risk of moderate to severe iodine deficiency in pregnant women who had not received iodine supplementation and salt iodine level ( Poverall < 0.001, Pnonlinear = 0.029). Conclusions:From 2022 to 2024, the overall iodine level of pregnant women in Tianjin is appropriate, but some pregnant women are at risk of iodine deficiency. Consuming iodized salt is a protective factor against the moderate to severe iodine deficiency in pregnant women. It is still necessary to further implement comprehensive prevention and control measures mainly based on iodized salt.
