Journal of Preventive Medicine 2025;37(12):1292-1296
Objective:
To investigate the scientific research capacity building of administrative offices of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCs) across 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities), the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and 5 separately listed cities in China, so as to provide the reference for improving the positioning of office functions and promoting the enhancement of scientific research capabilities.
Methods:
A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted among heads and staff members of administrative offices in 37 CDCs. Data on office setup, general information, staffing, scientific research incentive measures and outputs were collected and analyzed.
Results:
The 37 administrative offices of the CDCs had an average authorized staffing size of 12 personnel. There were 17 of them setting independently allocated budgets. A total of 511 staff members were surveyed, comprising 238 males and 273 females, resulting in a male-to-female ratio of 0.87∶1. In terms of educational attainment, the majority held bachelor's degrees (225 individuals, 44.03%) or master's degrees and above (157 individuals, 30.72%). Professional technical personnel constituted the main occupational category, 302 individuals accounting for 59.10%. Intermediate professional titles were most common, 138 individuals accounting for 27.00%. From 2021 to 2023, a total of 68 research incentive measures have been implemented, and 579 personnel have received further training. These offices cumulatively led or participated in 80 scientific research projects and published 253 papers. Sixteen offices reported 10 and above scientific research outputs. These offices generally exhibited higher proportions of independently allocated budgets, greater numbers of senior professional titles, more staff with master's degrees or above, more implemented research incentive measures, and higher frequencies of staff further trainings.
Conclusions
The staff in the administrative offices of CDCs generally have a high level of educational attainment and include a significant number of professional technical personnel. However, their scientific research capacity remains relatively underdeveloped. It is recommended to conduct targeted professional training and research-focused lectures to enhance research literacy, leverage the strengths of multidisciplinary backgrounds, and promote cross-departmental and cross-institutional scientific research activities.

Journal of Prevention and Treatment for Stomatological Diseases 2025;33(2):129-136
Objective:
To explore the therapeutic effects of different surgical methods for temporomandibular joint disc reduction and anchoring surgery, providing reference for optimizing this surgical procedure.
Method:
The study was approved by the hospital ethics committee. 173 patients (195 joints) who underwent temporomandibular joint disc repositioning and anchoring surgery were selected for retrospective analysis. Patients were categorized into groups A (traditional preauricular incision-scalpel/tissue scissors anterior attachment release), 35 patients (40 joints), B (traditional preauricular incision-plasma bipolar radiofrequency electrode anterior attachment release), 42 patients (46 joints), C (revised tragus incision - scalpel/tissue scissors anterior attachment release), 50 patients (58 joints), and D (revised tragus incision-plasma bipolar radiofrequency electrode anterior attachment release), 46 patients (51 joints). After a 6-month postoperative follow-up, the differences in maximum mouth opening (MMO), visual analogue scale (VAS), effective rate of joint disc reduction, incidence of preauricular numbness, obvious scars among patients in each group at 1, 3, and 6 months were compared postoperatively.
Results:
After surgery, the MMO of all four groups of patients initially shrunk and then gradually increased compared to before surgery. At the 1-month follow-up after surgery, the plasma bipolar radiofrequency release (B+D) group had a smaller impact on the patient’s MMO compared to the surgical knife/tissue scissors release (A+C) group (P < 0.05). Postoperative VAS scores for all four groups showed a gradual decrease from pre-operative levels, with the (B+D) group scoring significantly lower in the first month post-surgery compared to the (A+C) group (P < 0.05). Six months post-surgery, the rate of joint disc reduction of the four groups were higher than 95%, with no significant differences observed between the groups (P > 0.05). Patients in the revised tragus incision (C+D) group experienced a lower rate of preauricular numbness compared to those in the traditional preauricular incision (A+B) group (4.59% vs. 12.79%, P < 0.05), The incidence of obvious scars in the (C+D) group was significantly lower than that in the (A+B) group (3.67% vs. 23.26%, P < 0.05).
Conclusion
The revised tragus incision is superior to traditional preauricular incision in terms of protecting the auriculotemporal nerve and the scars were more inconspicuous. Further, the plasma bipolar radiofrequency electrode is superior to the scalpel/tissue scissors in terms of mouth opening recovery and pain control. For temporomandibular joint disc reduction and anchoring surgery, a modified tragus incision combined with plasma bipolar radiofrequency electrode to release the anterior attachment of the joint disc can be recommended as a surgical option.

Investigated the mechanisms by which baicalein regulates nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Nrf2)/heme oxygenase-1(HO-1)to ameliorate lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced sepsis-asso-ciated acute kidney injury(AKI)in mice.Sixty male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into six groups:control,model,low-dose baicalein(50 mg/kg),medium-dose baicalein(100 mg/kg),high-dose baicalein(200 mg/kg),and high-dose baicalein+brusatol(4 mg/kg).Baicalein was adminis-tered orally for 7 days as a preventative measure.Sepsis was induced via intraperitoneal injection of LPS.Murine sepsis score(MSS)was assessed within 12 hours post-induction.Serum creatinine(Scr),blood urea nitrogen(BUN),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and interleukin-6(IL-6)were measured using an automatic biochemical analyzer and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA),respectively.Histopathological changes in kidney tissues were ob-served via hematoxylin-eosin(HE)staining.Western blot analysis was employed to determine the protein expression levels of Nrf2,HO-1,caspase-8,TNF-α,IL-1β,and IL-6 in kidney tissues.Additionally, total superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity in kidney tissues was assessed using com-mercially available kits.Compared to the model group, baicalein treatment significantly improved renal histopathological changes, alleviated cellular damage, and reduced the levels of inflammatory cytokines(TNF-α,IL-1βand IL-6)(P<0.01)and kidney injury markers(Scr and BUN)(P<0.01).Moreover,baicalein treatment significantly increased the protein expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1(P<0.01)and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity. In conclusion, baicalein may pro-tect against LPS-induced sepsis-associated AK1 in mice by modulating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, thereby attenuating oxidative stress, reducing inflammation, and disrupting the vicious cycle between inflammation and oxidative stress.
