On October 9, 2024, the General Office of the National Health Commission, the General Office of the Ministry of Education, the General Department of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the General Department of the National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention jointly issued the Action Plan for Enhancing Medical Humanistic Care (2024-2027), stating that medical humanistic spirit is a concrete manifestation of humanistic spirit in the medical field. Aiming at caring for and respecting patients, this spirit reflects the attitude of medicine towards life. The cultivation of medical humanistic care competencies should serve as a core element of modern medical education, running through the entire process of the medical students’ training system and the full stage of medical workers’ career development. The humanities team of Harbin Medical University pioneered the “consistent system” concept of medical humanities education, inherited the “four-stage” with clinical practice as the primary approach, and closely focused on “three combinations, two considerations, and one assessment.” Through deeply integrating medicine with the humanities, as well as theory with practice, they have embarked on a distinctive implementation path of medical humanities, laying a solid foundation for the cultivation of high-quality medical talents with both skills and expertise in practice.

Chinese Journal of Reparative and Reconstructive Surgery 2025;39(5):550-555
OBJECTIVE:
To explore the effectiveness of arthroscopic All-inside single needle vertical suture technique in treatment of complete radial tear of the meniscus.
METHODS:
Between January 2019 and January 2022, 18 patients (18 knees) with complete radial tear of the meniscus were treated by using arthroscopic All-inside single needle vertical suture technique. Among them, there were 12 males and 6 females with an average age of 37.1 years (range, 16-50 years). The causes of radial meniscus tears included the sports injuries in 11 cases, sprains/falls in 4 cases, and traffic accident injuries in 3 cases. The interval between injury and operation was 3-25 days (mean, 11.7 days). All patients had knee joint pain. Knee joint tenderness and McMurray sign were both positive. MRI showed the 15 cases of lateral meniscus tear and 3 cases of medial meniscus tear; 15 cases of anterior cruciate ligament injury, 1 case of posterior cruciate ligament injury, and 15 cases of tibial plateau bone contusion. Six patients underwent isolated meniscus repair and 12 patients with cruciate ligament rupture underwent meniscus repair and simultaneous cruciate ligament reconstruction. The operation time and incidence of postoperative complications were recorded. At last follow-up, the meniscus healing was evaluated according to Barrett's criteria and knee joint MRI, respectively. Lysholm score and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score were used to evaluate the functional recovery of the knee joint.
RESULTS:
The operation time was 19-28 minutes (mean, 23.3 minutes) in 6 patients with isolated meniscus repair and 38-52 minutes (mean, 45.8 minutes) in 12 patients with meniscus repair and simultaneous cruciate ligament reconstruction. All incisions healed by first intention. After operation, 1 patient developed the deep vein thrombosis of lower limb, the other patients had no complication. All patients were followed up 12-18 months (mean, 15.2 months). At last follow-up, 16 cases of meniscus reached clinical healing according to Barrett's criteria, with a healing rate of 88.9%. MRI re-examination of the knee joint showed that 5 cases had complete healing of the meniscus, 11 cases had partial healing, and 2 cases did not heal. The total healing rate (complete healing and partial healing) was 88.9%. After operation, the Lysholm score and IKDC score of 18 patients increased compared to preoperative scores, and further improved with time. The differences between different time points were significant ( P<0.05). Six patients with isolated meniscus repair had the same changes in the above scores, and the differences between the different time points were significant ( P<0.05).
CONCLUSION
The arthroscopic All-inside single needle vertical suture technique can achieve good short-term effectiveness in the treatment of complete radial tears of the meniscus.

Chinese Journal of Cellular and Molecular Immunology 2025;41(10):937-953
Ferroptosis is a regulated form of cell death, with its core mechanism being intracellular iron overload-induced lipid peroxidation, leading to cellular dysfunction and mitochondrial structural abnormalities. Ferroptosis is closely related to various diseases including neurodegenerative disorders, tumors, and ischemia-reperfusion organ damage, and has become a potential therapeutic target. Iron is essential for life but can also cause cell death. Despite continuous progress in iron-related biomedical research, many questions remain unanswered. Advances in high-throughput technologies, genomics and proteomics are expected to reveal the cellular iron regulatory mechanism and open up new therapeutic approaches for ferroptosis-related diseases. This article reviews the research progress on iron in terms of its biology, metabolism, regulation, and related diseases, aiming to provide clues and references for developing new ferroptosis-targeted therapeutic strategies and facilitating more in-depth molecular studies from multiple perspectives.

Chinese Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology 2025;39(3):183-190
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect and underlying mechanism of hydroxytyrosol(HT)on mouse chondrocyte injury induced by oxidative stress.METHODS Mouse chondrocytes were incubated with varying concentrations of HT 0-400 μmol L-1 for 24 h,and the viability of the mouse chondrocytes was assessed using CCK-8 kit.An oxidative stress model of chondrocytes was estab-lished by the addition of H2O2 200 μmol L-1.The experimental groups included the cell control group,H2O2 group, and H2O2+HT 10,50 and 250 μmol·L-1 groups. After 24 h,the mRNA expression levels of interleukin-6(IL-6),cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2),prostaglandin E2(PGE2),inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS),matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3),MMP-13,a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with throm-bospondin motifs-4(ADAMTS-4),ADAMTS-5,SRY-box transcription factor-9(SOX-9)and aggrecan(ACAN)in mouse chondrocytes were detected by real-time quantitative PCR,the intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)level in chondrocytes was measured with 2,7-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diace-tate(DCFH-DA)staining,while the mitochondrial membrane potential was evaluated using JC-1 staining. After 48 h,the protein expression levels of iNOS,COX-2,MMP-13,and type Ⅱ collagen(Col-2)in mouse chondrocytes were detected using Western blotting.RESULTS HT at concentrations≤350 μmol·L-1 had no significant effect on the survival of mouse chondrocytes.Compared with the cell control group, after 24 h,the mRNA expression levels of IL-6,COX-2,PGE2,iNOS,MMP-3,MMP-13,ADAMTS-4 and ADAMTS-5 in the chondrocytes of mice in the H2O2 group were increased, while the mRNA expression levels of SOX-9 and ACAN were decreased.Additionally, there was an elevation in the ROS level and a significant loss of mitochondrial membrane potential in the chondrocytes of mice.Compared with the H2O2 group, after treatment with HT 10,50 and 250 μmol·L-1,there were significant decreases in mRNA expression levels of IL-6,COX-2,PGE2,iNOS,MM P-3,MMP-13,ADAMTS-4 and ADAMTS-5,the mRNA expressions of SOX-9 and ACAN were increased, the ROS level was lowered. After treatment with HT 50 and 250 μmol L-1,the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential was ameliorated.Compared to the cell control group, the protein expressions of iNOS,COX-2 and MMP-13 were upregulated in the H2O2 group, while the protein expression of Col-2 was downregulated after 48 h.Compared to the H2O2 group, treatment with HT at concentrations of 10,50 and 250 μmol·L-1 resulted in decreased protein expressions of iNOS,COX-2 and MMP-13 in mouse chondrocytes, but the protein expression of Col-2 increased following treatment with HT 50 and 250 μmol L-1.CONCLUSION HT can ameliorate H2O2-induced chondrocyte injury by reducing intracellular ROS levels and alleviating the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, suppressing the release of inflammatory cytokines, inhibiting catabolic processes, and promoting anabolic activities.

BACKGROUND:At present,a large number of studies have shown that mesenchymal stem cells can be combined with different strategies to more effectively improve liver fibrosis and inhibit its progression to end-stage liver disease.OBJECTIVE:To explore the mechanism of mesenchymal stem cells combined with different strategies to improve liver fibrosis compared with mesenchymal stem cells alone.METHODS:The first author used computers to search CNKI,WanFang,VIP,PubMed,Web of Science, and Nature databases involving mesenchymal stem cells combined with different strategies to improve liver fibrosis. The search terms were"mesenchymal stem cells, liver fibrosis, combination therapy, liver stellate cells"in Chinese, and"mesenchymal stem/stromal cells,liver/hepatic fibrosis/cirrhosis,combination therapy, hepatic stellate cells/HSCs"in English.By quickly browsing the title and abstract of the article, excluding the articles that are not closely related to the topic,104 articles were finally selected for review analysis.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Mesenchymal stem cells improve liver fibrosis by differentiating into hepato-like cells, inhibiting hepatic stellate cell activation, immune regulation, and other mechanisms. However, the low rate of liver colonization, low survival rate, and short action time of mesenchymal stem cells after transplantation limit their clinical application.Mesenchymal stem cells can improve liver fibrosis through a combination of drugs, gene modification, cytokines and other strategies, and the efficacy is better than that of mesenchymal stem cells alone. Moreover, the combination of mesenchymal stem cells and different strategies can effectively improve liver fibrosis by promoting mesenchymal stem cell homing, inhibiting hepatic stellate cell activation, regulating the microenvironment, and regulating signaling pathways.Mesenchymal stem cells can also show better liver-derived differentiation, homing and survival functions in reducing liver fibrosis through pretreatment,miRNA regulation and combination with other cells. The combination of mesenchymal stem cells and different strategies cannot avoid the potential risks of mesenchymal stem cells alone in the treatment of liver fibrosis, and the safety of these strategies(drugs, gene modifications, cytokines, etc.)is also worth considering. In addition, the number and route of mesenchymal stem cell transplantation need to be further studied.

Chinese Journal of Plastic Surgery 2025;41(7):669-673
Objective:To study the clinical outcome of palmar approach to on-top plasty in the treatment of unequal radial polydactyly. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients with unequal radial polydactyly in which neither thumb duplicates possess both well-developed proximal and distal components. All the patients underwent palmar approach to on-top plasty between September 2013 and September 2023 at Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Shanxi Children’s Hospital. At the final follow-up, the active flexion-extension range of motion of the first metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints was measured, along with grip and pinch strength. The Vancouver scar scale was used to assess scar formation (total score 0-15, with higher scores indicating more severe scarring). Additionally, the pediatric quality of life inventory (total score 0-100, with higher scores indicating better quality of life, evaluated by the children themselves or by their parents/guardians on their behalf) and the satisfaction questionnaire (total score ranges from 1 to 5, with higher scores indicating greater satisfaction) were used to assess the patients’ daily quality of life and parents’satisfaction. Results:A total of 28 pediatric patients were included, comprising 15 males and 13 females, with an average age of 15 months (range: 10-36 months). All cases presented unilateral radial polydactyly, including 18 right hands and 10 left hands. The mean follow-up duration was 4.2 years (range: 1.5-6.0 years). All incisions healed in one stage, and the skin flaps survived well without infection. Joint stability was maintained without any deviation. All reconstructed thumbs demonstrated satisfactory aesthetic appearance. The reconstructed thumbs demonstrated mean active flexion-extension arcs of 76° (range 61°-85°) at the first metacarpophalangeal joint, and 42° (range 21°-65°) at the interphalangeal joint. The grip strength of the hand was 82% (63%-90%) of the normal opposite hand. The key, tip and tripod pinch strength were 76%(66%-83%), 77%(66%-85%) and 79%(68%-87%) of the normal opposite hand, respectively. No scar hyperplasia was found in all cases, and the Vancouver scar scale score was 1.2(0-3) points. The self-assessment score of the children on the pediatric quality of life inventory was 86 points, and the score of the parents/guardians was 91 points. In terms of family satisfaction, 23 patients scored 5, and 5 patients scored 4.Conclusion:The use of palmar approach to on-top plasty to treat unequal radial polydactyly can achieve functional and aesthetic results.
