Bone remodelling keeps going through the lifespan of human by bone formation and bone resorption. In the craniofacial region, mandibles act as the main force for biting and chewing, and also become susceptible to a common bone-loss disease, namely, apical periodontitis, once infected dental pulp is not treated timely, during which bone resorption occurs from the apical foramen to the apical bone area. Although conventional root canal treatment (RCT) can remove the most of the infection, chronical apical periodontitis due to incomplete removal of dental pulp and subsequent microleakage will become refractory and more challenging, and this process has scarcely been specifically studied as a bone remodelling issue in rat models. Therefore, to study chronical and refractory apical periodontitis owing to incomplete cleaning of infected dental pulp and microleackage in vivo, we establish a modified rat model of gradually progressive apical periodontitis by sealing residual necrotic dental pulp and introducing limited saliva, which simulates gradually progressive apical periodontitis, as observed in the clinical treatment of chronical and refractory apical periodontitis. We show that bone-loss is inevitable and progressive in this case of apical periodontitis, which confirms again that complete and sound root canal treatment is crucial to halt the progression of chronical and refractory apical periodontitis and promote bone formation. Interestingly, bone remodelling was enhanced at the initial stage of apical periodontitis in this model while reduced with a high osteoblast number afterwards, as shown by the time course study of the modified model. Suggesting that the pathological apical microenvironment reserve its hard tissue formation ability to some degree but in a disturbed manner. Hopefully, our findings can provide insights for future bone regenerative treatment for apical periodontitis-associated bone loss.

Odontogenesis is a consequence of a complex series of reciprocal signal interactions between odontogenic epithelium and neural crest-derived odontotgenic mesenchyme. These interactions result from a complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Given that a fetus develops in the mother, maternal health and environmental exposures have a great influence on tooth development. In this review, we focused on the key issues in the developmental defects of teeth induced by various types of maternal environmental factors, including environmental endocrine disruptors, joint action of two or more chemical exposures, and maternal health status. This review also discussed the adverse effects of maternal environmental factors on tooth development. These effects include enamel developmental defects, molar incisor hypomineralization, dental fluorosis, hyperdontia and hypodontia. Overall, this review provides a theoretical basis for the prevention of tooth defects in early life, assessment of risks from developmental tooth defects, and advancement of pediatric oral health management.

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of gamma knife on advanced liver cancer patients with MRI diffusion-weighted imaging (MRI-DWI).Methods MRI-DWI detection was performed in 100 liver cancer patients 1-2 days before gamma knife therapy,7 days and 30 days after gamma knife therapy.Then,comparisons were made between the dynamic changes of ADC values before and after gamma knife therapy under different b-values.Results Under different b values,significant changes in the average ADC values of foci could be noted,before and after gamma knife therapy,and the average ADC values increased with the increase of the b value(P ＜ 0.05).Following gamma knife therapy,the average ADC values of foci all increased as compared with those before therapy.Thirty days after treatment,the average ADC values of foci were increased as compared with those 7 days after treatment.Conclusion ADC value changes after gamma knife therapy in the treatment of advanced liver cancer were closely related with tumor necrosis,and ADC values could be used for the assessment of the efficacy of gamma knife therapy.

Objective To compare the two methods of 3D contrast-enhanced MRA in the diagnosis of upper extremity disea-ses, and also to explore the advantages of the moving-bed technique .Methods Two groups of 20 patients suspected of having upper extremity arterial diseases underwent detections of the non-moving-bed 3D contrast-enhanced MRA and the moving-bed 3D contrast-en-hanced MRA .Results Clear pictures of culprit lesion in the upper extremities ( arterio-venous malformation , hemangioma ) were dis-played in all the 20 cases, and the pictures of upper extremity blood vessel were clearly shown during the whole process in 8 cases, with clear direction of blood supply .Conclusion As compared with the non-moving-bed 3D contrast-enhanced MRA, the moving-bed 3D contrast-enhanced MRA had the following advantages:better continuity and more comprehensive assessment of the nature of upper ex-tremity blood vessel lesion .With this reason, it was a detection technique worth further clinical extension .

Objective: To analyze influencing factors of in-stent restenosis after coronary artery stent implantation, to provide theoretical support for clinical prevention of restenosis. Methods: Clinical data of 123 patients, who received coronary artery stent implantation in our hospital from Mar 2011 to Sep 2013 and received coronary angiography follow-up one year after operation, were retrospectively analyzed. In-stent restenosis was regarded as stenosis of inner diameter of implanted stent≥50%, so patients were divided into restenosis group (n=35) and non-restenosis group (n=88). Multi-factor Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze influencing factors of coronary in-stent restenosis. Results: Compared with non-restenosis group, there were significant reductions in serum level of total bilirubin [(14.02±6.76) μmol/L vs. (10.90±4.51) μmol/L] and stent diameter [(3.06±0.86) mm vs. (2.87±0.44) mm] in restenosis group, P<0.01 both. Multi-factor Logistic regression analysis indicated that blood glucose level was independent risk factor for restenosis after coronary artery stent implantation (OR=2.545, P=0.035), while stent diameter and serum level of total bilirubin were its protective factors (OR=0.857, 0.850, P<0.05 both). Conclusion: Blood glucose level is an independent risk factor for restenosis after coronary artery stent implantation, while stent diameter and serum level of total bilirubin are its protective factors.

Objective To study the CT Imaging features of renal angiomyolipoma, so as to increase the value in clinical diag-nosis.Methods Analyses were made on 6 confirmed cases of renal angiomyolipomas with CT scan.Results Of the 6 cases, 4 were single and 2 were multiple cases, of which 1 was in the right kidney and 3 were in the left kidney, and 2 were in both kidneys, with a total of 12 foci.There were six foci with a diameter smaller than 2cm, and another 6 foci with a diameter larger than 2cm, and the lar-gest diameter of the focus was 8.3 cm ×7.1cm.Renal parenchyma and or circular, elliptical and irregular shape soft tissue shadows and fatty tissue shadows in renal pelvis were clearly seen from the CT scan.Conclusion CT scan revealed that the fatty tissue in renal tumor could confirm the diagnosis of renal angiomyolipomas.

BACKGROUND: At present, treatment of diabetes mellitus with western medicine starts from the angle of stimulating injured β cell of islet to strength insulin secreting. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine is very important in protecting injured β cells.OBJECTIVE: To observe the protective effect of lycium barbarum polysaccharide and nourishing yin and activating blood compound recipe on pancreatic islet function in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus.DESIGN: A randomized and controlled animal experiments.SETTING: First Affiliated Hospital and Medical College of Henan University of Science and Technology.MATERIALS: Totally 70 male Wistar rats, aged 6 weeks, with body mass of 200 g, were used in this experiment.METHODS: This experiment was carried out at the Animal Room of Henan University of Science and Technology from October 2001 to April 2002. Totally 70 rats were divided into two groups: normal control group (n=10) and modeling group (n=60). Totally 30 successful model rats were randomly subdivided into 3 groups: streptozotocin model group, compound recipe treated group and lycium barbarum polysaccharide-treated group,with 10 rats in each group ;Intragastric administration of 60 g/kg Chinese herb compound recipe for nourishing yin and activating blood was performed on the rats in the compound recipe treated group at 9:00 every day (huangqi, shanyao, gegen respectively 30 g, gouqizi, danshen, huafen,digupi respectively 15 g, danggui, zhimu respectively 12 g, danpi, wuweizi respectively 10 g, shuizhi 5 g, shanyurou 20 g, etc, provided by drug store of First Hospital Affiliated to Henan University of Science and Technology,were decocted and condensed to be equivalent crude drug 3.0 kg/L with routine method). Intragastric administration of 0.5 g/kg lycium barbarum polysaccharide was given in the lyciun barbarum polysaccharide treated group (lycium barbarum polysaccharide was isolated and purified from ningxia barbary wolfberry fruit). Intragastric administration of comparative volume of normal saline was performed in the streptozotocin model group and normal control group, totally 3 weeks. The levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG) and insulin were measured at 3 weeks before and after experiment, and function index of β cell of islet was calculated; Pancreas was taken out to detect SOD activity, NOS activity and concentrations of NO and MDA were also detected.RESULTS: Ten rats in normal control group and 30 successful model rats in model group entered the stage of result analysis. ① In the initial stage of experiment, FBG level in each modeling group was significantly increased (t=16.51 to 10.07,P ＜ 0.01), while fasting insulin level and function index of β cell were significantly decreased (t=13.64 to 100.99 ,P ＜ 0.01 ) in comparison with normal control group. ② At 3 weeks after experiment, levels of FBG, NO , MDA , NOS activity were significantly decreased in the compound recipe treated group and lycium barbarum polysaccharide group compared with streptozotocin model group (t=8.08 to 72.68 ,P ＜ 0.01 ), while level of fasting insulin and function index of β cell, SOD activity were significantly increased in the compound recipe treated group and lycium barbarum polysaccharide group compared with streptozotocin model group (t=4.39 to 17.87,P ＜ 0.05-0.01 ). ③ Levels of FBG and MDA , NOS activity and concentration of NO were significantly decreased in the compound recipe treated group, and fasting insulin and function index of βcells were significantly increased in comparison with lycium barbarum polysaccharide group(P ＜ 0.01 ).CONCLUSION: Lycium barbarum polysaccharide and nourishing yin and activating blood compound recipe increase the level of fasting insulin and function index of βcell of rats with streptozotocin induced diabetes mellitus, decrease the level of blood glucose, improve the function of βcell of islet, which might be related to the increase of pancreatic islet SOD activity and decrease NOS activity.

Objective To compare the curative effects and safety of immunoabsorption(IA) and double filtration plasmapheresis(DFPP) in treatment of Guillain-Barre syndrome(GBS).Methods 60 patients of GBS were randomly divided into two groups and treated with IA and DFPP,respectively.The neurological functions were assessed and the immunoglobulin,complement and total protein in the blood were also measured before and after treatments.Results The rating of the neurological function deficiency in both groups improved with time,but there was no significant difference in Hughes rating between two groups.After half year,the MRC rating in IA group was better than that in DFPP group((P
