Objective: To analyze the status and trends of physical fitness test data among college freshmen with different body mass index (BMI) groups from 2014 to 2024, providing the scientific evidence for monitoring and intervening in college students physical health. Methods: A census was conducted on all 67 949 freshmen at Civil Aviation University of China from 2014 to 2024. Physical tests included vital capacity, sit and reach, sit ups, 50 m sprint, standing long jump, pull ups, and 800 m/1 000 m run. Freshmen were divided into underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese groups according to WHO BMI standards. The Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to compare differences in physical fitness indicators across gender and BMI groups, while the Mann-Kendall trend test was employed to detect upward or downward trends in physical indicators over time. Results: From 2014 to 2024, statistically significant differences were observed in vital capacity, 50 m sprint, standing long jump, and sit and reach among different BMI groups for both genders (boy: Z =2 396.40, 4 160.33, 4 662.23, 531.85; girl: Z =593.37, 308.86, 499.37, 128.70). Significant differences were also found in 1 000 m run and pull ups for boys, and 800 m run and sit ups for girls across BMI groups (boy: Z =6 574.80, 6 880.48; girl: Z =528.56, 146.18) ( P <0.01). Overall physical test scores showed a declining trend during 2014-2024, particularly pronounced in overweight and obese groups. Male vital capacity in 2014 exceeded national survey data( d =320 mL), with the gap widening to 734 mL by 2019, while the female vital capacity difference increased from 271 mL in 2014 to 576 mL in 2019. Male 1 000 m run times were 23.0 s and 17.5 s faster than national data in 2014 and 2019 respectively, while female 800 m run times were 22.3 s and 21.5 s faster than corresponding national data. Conclusions Physical health status among freshmen at this university varies across BMI groups and changes over time. Although overall test scores remain higher than national levels, the declining trend in physical fitness performance requires attention.

Mitochondria, ubiquitous energy-producing organelles in eukaryotic cells, can have their normal functions disrupted by bacterial infections, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction. This dysfunction is closely associated with inflammatory diseases. Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disorder of periodontal tissues caused by pathogenic microorganisms, has been increasingly linked to mitochondrial dysfunction in its pathogenesis and progression. Compared to healthy periodontal tissues, inflammatory lesions exhibit more pronounced mitochondrial dysfunction—a pathological process that is strongly correlated with periodontal pathogen infection. Studies reveal that these pathogens disrupt mitochondrial homeostasis in host cells (e.g., gingival epithelial cells and fibroblasts) through multiple mechanisms, including disrupting mitochondrial biogenesis, altering mitochondrial dynamics (promoting excessive fission), inhibiting mitophagy, impairing mitochondrial dysfunction-associated apoptosis, and inducing endogenous oxidative stress, which upregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines. Collectively, these processes drive the establishment and persistence of an inflammatory microenvironment. This review explores how periodontal pathogens affect mitochondrial function and their mechanistic contributions to periodontitis progression, with the goal of providing novel insights for developing mitochondria-targeted therapeutic strategies.

Objective To explore the methylation levels of HOXA6 and fragile histidine triad gene(FHIT)in circulating free DNA(cfDNA)in plasma and their role in the diagnosis of prostate cancer(PCa).Methods A total of 192 prostate illness patients who visi-ted our hospital from February 2021 to February 2023 were collected as the study subjects,including 112 PCa patients as the disease group and 80 patients with prostatic hyperplasia as the control group.The methylation specific PCR(MSP)method was applied to detect the methylation levels of HOXA6 and FHIT in plasma cfDNA;the relationship between the methylation levels of HOXA6 and FHIT in plasma cfDNA and clinical data was analyzed;multi-factor Logistic was applied to analyze the influencing factors of PCa occurrence;and the di-agnostic value of HOXA6 and FHIT methylation in PCa was evaluated.Results The methylation rates of HOXA6 and FHIT in the plasma cfDNA of the disease group were significantly higher than those of the control group(P＜0.05);the methylation rates of HOXA6 and FHIT in patients with TNM stages Ⅰ-Ⅱ were lower than those in stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ,while patients with lymph node metastasis had higher HOXA6 and FHIT methylation rates than those without lymph node metastasis(P＜0.05);the sensitivity and specificity of the combina-tion of HOXA6 and FHIT methylation in the diagnosis of PCa were 75.89％and 95.00％,respectively,the diagnostic efficacy of the combination of the two was higher than that of HOXA6 and FHIT methylation alone;multivariate Logistic analysis showed that HOXA6 and FHIT methylation were the influencing factors for the occurrence of PCa(P＜0.05).Conclusion The levels of HOXA6 and FHIT meth-ylation in plasma cfDNA of PCa patients are elevated,they could be the influencing factors of PCa,and the combination of the two factors has higher diagnostic efficacy than individual diagnosis,and has certain diagnostic value.

Objective:To investigate the effect of methylene blue (MB) on motor dysfunction and its mechanism in 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced Parkinson's disease (PD) mouse models.Methods:Forty healthy male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into 4 groups: control group, model group, low-dose treatment group and medium-dose treatment group ( n=10); PD mouse models were established by intraperitoneal injection of 25 mg/kg/d MPTP for a consecutive 7 d; low-dose treatment group and medium-dose treatment group were pretreated intraperitoneally with MB 2 mg/kg/d or MB 10 mg/kg/d for a consecutive 3 d, respectively; and then, MPTP 25 mg/kg/d+MB 2 mg/kg/d or MPTP 25 mg/kg/d+MB 10 mg/kg/d were injected intraperitoneally into the low-dose treatment group or medium-dose treatment group for a consecutive 7 d (MPTP and MB were given at 12 h of interval). Eight d after modeling, open field experiment, pole climbing experiment and rod rotating experiment were carried out to evaluate the spontaneous movement, coordination, endurance and motor ability. And then, the mice were sacrificed; immunofluorescent staining was used to observe tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) expression in the substantia nigra; Western blotting was used to detect the expressions of TH, α-synuclein, nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain, leucine-rich repeat and pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3), apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD (ASC), cleaved-Caspase-1 and Gasdermin D (GSDMD) in the striatum and substantia nigra of mice. Contents of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 in the substantia nigra and striatum of mice were detected by ELISA. Results:Compared with the control group, the model group had shortened residence time in rod rotating, prolonged descent time in rod climbing, reduced total movement distance in open field, decreased number of TH-positive cells in the substania nigra, decreased TH protein levels in the substania nigra and striatum, and increased NLRP3, ASC, cleaved-Caspase-1, GSDMD and GSDMD-N protein levels in the substania nigra and striatum, and increased TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-18 contents in the substania nigra and striatum, with significant differences ( P<0.05). Compared with the model group, low-dose treatment group and medium-dose treatment group had prolonged residence time in rod rotating, shortened descent time in rod climbing, increased total movement distance in open field, increased number of TH-positive cells in the substania nigra, and increased TH protein levels in the substania nigra and striatum, decreased NLRP3, ASC, and cleaved-Caspase-1 levels in the substania nigra and striatum, and decreased TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-18 contents in the substania nigra and striatum, with significant differences ( P<0.05). No statistical differences in the above indexes were noted between the low-dose treatment group and medium-dose treatment group ( P>0.05). Conclusion:Low-/medium-dose MB can ameliorate motor dysfunction in PD mouse models, whose mechanism may be related to downregulate NLRP3 inflammasome and inhibit neuroinflammatory response to reduce dopaminergic neuron pyroptosis.

Objective:To investigate the hard and soft tissue changing trend and contributing factors of skeletal class Ⅱ hyperdivergent patients before and after orthodontic camouflage treatment by analyzing the cephalogram and the three dimensional(3D)facial scan data.Methods:Eighteen skeletal class Ⅱhyperdivergent adult female patients who finished camouflage orthodontic treatment were selected.Skele-tal and dental measurements were carried out with the cephalometric analysis before and after the treat-ment.3D facial data before and after orthodontic treatment were acquired and the anatomical landmarks were set after the repositioning and superimposition process.Hard tissue measurement included 17 mea-surement indicators(sella-nasion-subspinale angle,sella-nasion-supramental angle,subspinale-nasion-supramental angle,facial angle,angle of convexity,Frankfort horizontal plane-mandibular plane angle(FH-MP),Y axis angle,sella-nasion plane-mandibular plane angle(MP-SN),pogonion-nasion-supra-mental distance,upper incisor-nasion-subspinale distance,upper incisor to sella-nasion,lower incisor-nasion-supramental distance,lower incisor-nasion-supramental angle,upper incisor to lower incisor,up-per incisor to sella-nasion,lower incisor-mandibular plane angle,and Z angle),and the changes before and after treatment were measured for 11 of them.Twenty soft tissue landmarks(left/right cheekbone,left/right chelion,left/right crista philtra,soft tissue gnathion,left/right gonion,glabella,labrale infe-rius,labrale superius,soft tissue menton,left/right mid-mandibular border,soft tissue pogonion,stomi-on superius,sublabial,subnasale,and supralabial)and 9 soft tissue indicators(lower lip height,facial convexity,lower vermilion height,mandibular contour,nasolabial angle,philtral length,philtral width,upper lip height,and upper vermilion height)were measured and recorded for treatment changes.Linear-regression analysis and correlation analysis were carried out for analyzing the relationship between hard and soft tissue changes before and after the treatment.Results:Significant differences were noticed for 18 out of the 20 cephalometric measurements and facial measurements before and after the treatment(P＜0.05),which mainly represented the sagittal retraction of lip area after the treatment.Significant vertical displacements were revealed for soft tissue menton after treatment[(1.88±2.61)mm,P＜0.05].Significant sagittal displacements were revealed for left/right cheilion[(-2.95±1.9)mm,(-2.90±1.92)mm],labrale inferius[(-4.94±1.95)mm],labrale superius[(-3.25±1.44)mm],sublabial[(-3.10±3.5)mm],and subnasale[(-1.23±1.06)mm]after treatment(P＜0.05).An average of 4.10°±2.57° increasement was noticed for Z angle after treatment.High correla-tion(r＞0.7)was noticed for the displacement of menton after treatment with FH-MP,with the rate of-0.183:1,and MP-SN,with the rate of-0.157:1.Moderate correlations(0.7≥r＞0.4)were no-ticed for the other measurements with correlations(P＜0.05).Conclusion:A certain extent of facial improvements could be achieved with orthodontic camouflage treatment for skeletal class Ⅱ hyperdiver-gent patients,which were mostly represented by the improvement of sagittal relationship of nose,lips,and chin.Certain correlations were noticed for the hard and soft tissue changes.

AIM: To investigate the acute clinical manifestations of cosmetology-related ocular damage(COD).METHODS:Retrospective study. A total of 53 cases(89 eyes)with ocular damage caused by cosmetology from April 2016 to October 2021 were collected. The clinical features were analyzed, including age, gender, affected eye(s), clinical manifestations, injury cause, treatment procedures, and prognosis.RESULTS: All 53 patients were female, aged 22-45 years, with an average age of 28.4±6.7 years. Monocular injuries were observed in 17 patients, and binocular injuries in 36 patients. The same eye could exhibit two or more ocular damage simultaneously. The primary cosmetology procedures causing COD were eyeliner tattooing(38 eyes; 43%), eyelash extensions(18 eyes; 20%), removal of false eyelashes(11 eyes; 12%), mascara application(8 eyes; 9%), double eyelid surgery(6 eyes; 7%), and others(8 eyes; 9%). Major ocular damages included corneal damage(56 eyes; 63%), eyelid contact dermatitis(26 eyes; 29%), conjunctivitis(19 eyes; 21%), reactive eyelid edema(13 eyes; 15%), ocular surface foreign bodies(12 eyes; 14%), bacterial infection of the palpebral margin(10 eyes; 11%), and others(5 eyes; 6%). These 5 eyes included 1 eye(1%)with central retinal artery occlusion caused by periocular injection of hyaluronic acid. The majority of patients(74 eyes)recovered within 1-2 wk with appropriate treatment, while filamentosa keratitis appeared in 3 eyes and the eye with central retinal artery occlusion had poor prognosis.CONCLUSIONS: COD predominantly occurs in young and middle-aged females with cosmetology experience. The most common cosmetology procedure leading to COD is eyeliner tattooing, and corneal damage is the most significant type of COD. COD can be effectively prevented and treated, resulting in a generally favorable prognosis.

AIM: To explore the effect of lncRNA SNHG6 on injury of human retinal microvascular endothelial cells(hRMECs)induced by high glucose and its possible mechanism.METHODS: The D-glucose-induced hRMECs were used to establish normal glucose(NG)and high glucose(HG)cell injured model. In the HG group, the hRMECs were cultured in DMEM medium at a concentration of 25 mmol/L D-glucose for 24 h, while in the NC group, they were cultured in DMEM medium at a concentration of 5.5 mmol/L D-glucose; according to experimental design, si-NC, si-SNHG6, si-SNHG6 and anti-miR-NC and si-SNHG6 and anti-miR-186-5p were transfected into hRMECs, and then incubated at a concentration of 25 mmol/L D-glucose for 24 h, with HG+si-NC group, HG+si-SNHG6 group, HG+si-SNHG6+anti-miR-NC group and HG+si-SNHG6+anti-miR-186-5p group marked, respectively. The quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)was used to detect the expression of lncRNA SNHG6 and miR-186-5p; dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to detect the targeting relationship; MTT assay and flow cytometry were used to detect the cell proliferation and apoptosis, respectively; enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect the levels of IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-8, IL-10; testing kits were used to detect activity of SOD and level of MDA; the Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of cleaved-caspase3, Bax and Bcl-2.RESULTS: The lncRNA SNHG6 expression increased in the HG group, while miR-186-5p expression decreased(both P<0.05). There was target binding of lncRNA SNHG6 with miR-186-5p. After the transfection of si-SNHG6, cell inhibition rate, apoptosis rate, cleaved-caspase3, Bax protein levels, IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-8 contents, and MDA activity were decreased(P<0.05), while Bcl-2 protein, IL-10 contents, and SOD activity were increased(P<0.05). Co-transfection of si-SNHG6 and anti-miR-186-5p increased cell proliferation inhibition rate, apoptosis rate, cleaved-caspase3, Bax, IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-8, and MDA(P<0.05), but decreased Bcl-2, IL-10 and SOD(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Interfering with lncRNA SNHG6 could inhibit cell apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress of high-glucose- induced hRMECs by elevating the expression of miR-186-5p.

Objectives It was a preliminary exploration on rare disease management of comprehensive hospital based on the"Center-Multidisciplinary Team"structure.Methods By applying interrupted time series analysis,the characteristics and related medical service of rare disease patients discharged from sample hospitals from 2021 to 2023 were measured.Results The results showed that the hospital served 19 825 rare disease patients from 2021 to 2023.The proportion of patients whose main diagnosis were rare diseases was approximately 27％.The interrupted time series technique indicated that the expected proportion of rare disease patients increased instantly by 1.89 thousand points.The capability to diagnose has significantly improved,with a growing trend on volume of bioinformatics analysis services for rare diseases patients.Conclusion The rare disease management based on the"Center-Team"structure can increase the attention of medical staff to rare diseases,strengthen the diagnostic capacity of rare diseases,and make patient management more continuous and disciplinary co-operation more efficient without significantly increasing the input burden on hospitals.
