Cancer Research on Prevention and Treatment 2026;53(2):89-95
Despite breakthroughs in immunotherapy for solid tumors, significant variations in treatment efficacy persist. Up to 80% of cancer patients suffer from malnutrition, which leads to: lymphoid atrophy and reduced T-cell reserves; deficiency of substrates required for T-cell activation and expansion; concurrent inflammation hindering T-cell infiltration into tumors; and cachexia accelerating PD-1 antibody clearance. Clinical studies confirm that severe malnutrition significantly impairs immune responses and increases the risk of treatment toxicity. Therefore, implementing standardized nutritional therapy is crucial for optimizing the reserve, activation, expansion, and infiltration capacity of immune cells, thereby providing a sound immune system foundation for immunotherapy. Immunonutrition therapy, by enhancing immunonutrients such as arginine, omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, and nucleotides, reduces the secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators and promotes T-cell activation and proliferation. This enhances anti-tumor immune responses, prolongs survival, and advances cancer treatment towards multimodal combination and precision approaches.

Objective:To investigate the efficacy of using a single Kocher-Langenbeck approach to improve anterior column screw fixation for the treatment of transverse + posterior wall acetabular fractures.Method:A retrospective analysis was conducted of the data of 21 patients who had been treated with a single Kocher-Langenbeck approach to improve anterior column screw fixation for transverse + posterior wall acetabular fractures at Department of Orthopaedics, Weifang People's Hospital from May 2021 to May 2023. There were 11 males and 10 females with an age of (51.3±15.5) years. The time from injury to surgery was (10.4±3.6) days. The anterior column screw fixation was improved as follows: screws were implanted 1 to 2 cm in front of the apex of the great notch of the external iliac plate of the pelvis to penetrate out at the upper branch root of the pubic ramus, with the whole screw fully located within the bony channel. Such indexes were recorded as surgical time, intraoperative blood loss, intraoperative fluoroscopy frequency for improved placement of anterior column screws, fracture healing time, incidence of complications, and fracture reduction and hip joint function at the last follow-up.Results:For this cohort, surgical time was (120.9±40.7) minutes, intraoperative blood loss (330.2±65.9) mL, and intraoperative fluoroscopy frequency for improved placement of anterior column screws (6.2±2.3) times. The 21 patients were followed up for (21.5±5.9) months. All fractures achieved bony union after (3.2±1.1) months. Incision fat liquefaction occurred in 1 patient after surgery and symptoms of sciatic nerve injury were observed in 2 patients. Follow-ups observed no such complications as loosening or breakage of internal fixators. According to the Matta scoring criteria, the quality of fracture reduction at the last follow-up was evaluated as anatomical reduction in 15 cases, as satisfactory reduction in 4 cases, as acceptable reduction in 2 cases, giving a satisfaction rate of 90.5% (19/21). According to the improved Merle d'Aubigné & Poster scoring criteria, hip function was evaluated as excellent in 16 cases, as good in 2 cases, and as fair in 3 cases, giving an excellent and good rate of 85.7% (18/21).Conclusion:It is effective to use a single Kocher-Langenbeck approach to improve anterior column screw fixation for the treatment of transverse + posterior wall acetabular fractures, showing advantages of reduced surgical time and intraoperative bleeding.

Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of fascial sling of flexor-pronator teres origin and anterior subcutaneous transposition of ulnar nerve in the treatment of severe cubital tunnel syndrome.Methods:30 patients with severe cubital tunnel syndrome were prospectively enrolled, who underwent surgical treatment at the Affiliated Hospital of Binzhou Medical University from December 2021 to February 2022. Randomized drawing divided the patients into two groups: the fascial sling group and the anterior subcutaneous transposition group with 15 cases on each group. In the fascial sling group, there were 11 males and 4 females, with an average age of 59 years (range 51-73 years), who underwent fascial suspension after ulnar nerve decompression. In the anterior subcutaneous transposition group, there were 10 males and 5 females, with an average age of 56 years (range 41-72 years), who underwent where the ulnar nerve was subcutaneous transposition after ulnar nerve decompression. The dynamic two-point discrimination and grip strength of the little finger on the affected limb were measured at 6, 12, and 24 months postoperatively. The postoperative improvement between the two groups were compared. Functional assessment and patient satisfaction surveys were conducted and compared at 24 months. Results:Neither groups had incision-related complications. The surgical duration for the fascial sling group was longer than that for the anterior subcutaneous transposition group (46.80±1.86 min and 43.87±2.00 min) with significant difference ( t=4.166, P<0.001). Blood loss during surgery in the fascial sling group was greater than that in the anterior subcutaneous transposition group (3.53±0.52 ml and 2.53±0.52 ml) with significant difference ( t=5.303, P<0.001). No significant difference was found in the improvement of dynamic two-point discrimination of the little finger in the affected limb at 6, 12, and 24 months postoperatively between the fascial sling group and the anterior subcutaneous transposition group (5.87±1.41 mm, 4.27±1.16 mm, 3.13±1.06 mm and 5.73±1.98 mm, 4.40±1.45mm, 3.20±1.15 mm), ( t=0.213, P=0.833; t=-0.277, P=0.784; t=-0.165, P=0.870). There was no significant difference in grip strength improvement in the affected limb at 6 and 12 months postoperatively between the fascial sling group and the anterior subcutaneous transposition group (24.62±4.94 kg, 25.88±4.72 kg and 21.94±3.76 kg, 23.62±4.00kg), ( t=1.448, P=0.159; t=1.404, P=0.171). At 24 months postoperatively, the fascial sling group showed better grip strength improvement compared to the anterior subcutaneous transposition group (27.58±4.92 kg and 23.62±4.00 kg) with significant difference ( t=2.425, P=0.033). The functional assessment revealed that the fascial sling group included 4 excellent, 8 good, and 3 acceptable cases, while the anterior subcutaneous transposition group had 3 excellent, 8 good, and 4 acceptable cases. One case in the fascial sling group was unsatisfied with the improvement in function. Four cases in the anterior subcutaneous transposition group were unsatisfied with functional improvement due to significant discomfort in the surgical area. Conclusion:The fascial sling technique of the flexor-pronator muscle origin yielded better clinical results on postoperative grip strength improvement and patient satisfaction compared to the anterior subcutaneous transposition.

OBJECTIVES:
The conventional Fr26 resectoscope is difficult to use in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) complicated by urethral stricture. This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of transurethral plasmakinetic resection of the prostate (PKRP) using a small-caliber (Fr18.5) plasmakinetic resectoscope combined with urethral dilation in patients with BPH and mild urethral stricture.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on 37 patients with BPH and mild urethral stricture treated at the Department of Urology, Hunan Provincial People's Hospital from January 2023 to December 2023. All patients underwent PKRP with a small-caliber plasmakinetic resectoscope, followed by routine placement of a Fr20 three-way Foley catheter for continuous bladder irrigation. International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), post-voiding residual urine volume (PVR), and Quality of Life (QOL) scores were compared before and after surgery. Perioperative indicators (intraoperative bleeding, operative time, postoperative catheterization time, and postoperative hospital stay) and complications were recorded.
RESULTS:
The median age was 69 years, and the median duration of voiding difficulty was 36 months. Median total prostate specific antigen (T-PSA) was 2.095 ng/mL, free prostate specific antigen (F-PSA) 0.561 ng/mL, and F/T ratio 0.3. Median prostate diameter was 48 mm and volume 41 mL. All 37 surgeries were completed successfully: 11 had external meatal stricture, 19 had mild anterior urethral stricture, and 7 had mild posterior urethral stricture (1 patient with a 1 cm pseudo-blind tract near the membranous urethral). Operative time was (2.4±0.7) hours, blood loss was (40±29) mL, median catheterization duration was 7 days, and median hospital stay was 7 days. No cases of postoperative urinary incontinence, recurrent hematuria, or sepsis occurred, and patients were satisfied with the surgical outcome. At 3 to 6 months follow-up, IPSS, Qmax, PVR, and QOL scores significantly improved compared to preoperative levels (all P<0.01), with no cases of urethral stricture progression or new-onset stricture.
CONCLUSIONS
PKRP using a small-caliber plasmakinetic resectoscope is safe and effective for treating BPH with mild urethral stricture. It offers advantages such as minimal trauma, rapid postoperative recovery, and a lower risk recovery, and a lower risk of aggravating urethral injury.

Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control 2024;36(2):116-129
Objective To investigate the prevalence of Enterobius vermicularis infections among children in China from 2016 to 2021, so as to provide insights into enterobiasis control and formulation of the enterobiasis control strategy among children. Methods Publications pertaining to the prevalence of E. vermicularis infections among children were retrieved from Wanfang Data, CNKI, VIP and PubMed databases published from January 2016 to June 2023. Eligible publications were screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the publication bias was evaluated using the assessment tool for prevalence studies proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute Evidence-Based Practice Resources in Australia. The study period, study areas, study subjects, sample size and number of infections were extracted from publications, and a pooled analysis was performed using a meta-analysis. A meta-regression analysis was performed with the prevalence of E. vermicularis infections as an independent variable, and sample size, source of samples, study area, study method, geographical area and province as dependent variables to identify the source of the study heterogeneity. Results A total of 66 studies were included, covering 23 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) in China, and with the investigations conducted between 2016 and 2021. Meta-analysis showed that the pooled prevalence of E. vermicularis infections was 4.5% [95% confidence interval (CI): (3.1%, 6.0%)] among children in China from 2016 to 2021, and the annual prevalence was 4.1% [95% CI: (2.2%, 6.5%)], 4.2% [95% CI: (2.4%, 6.6%)], 4.2% [95% CI: (2.2%, 6.8%)], 3.2% [95% CI: (1.5%, 5.4%)], 2.3% [95% CI: (0.9%, 4.3%)] and 1.1% [95% CI: (0.4%, 2.1%)] from 2016 to 2021. The pooled prevalence of E. vermicularis infections was 4.9% [95% CI: (3.4%, 6.8%)] in studies with a sample size of < 5 000 cases, which was higher than that in studies with a sample size of 5 000 cases and higher [2.1%, 95% CI: (0.2%, 3.6%)], and the pooled prevalence of E. vermicularis infections was 5.2% [95% CI: (2.9%, 8.2%)] among subjects from schools, which was higher than that among subjects from communities [4.2%, 95% CI: (2.7%, 6.0%)]. The pooled prevalence of E. vermicularis infections was 4.4% [95% CI: (2.8%, 6.2%)] among children included in comprehensive surveillance, which was higher than that among children included in specific surveillance [4.8%, 95% CI: (2.6%, 7.7%)], and the pooled prevalence of E. vermicularis infections was 5.7% [95% CI: (3.8%, 7.8%)] among children included in county-level surveys, which was higher than that among children included in city-[4.8%, 95% CI: (2.3%, 8.0%)] and province-level surveys [1.8%, 95% CI: (0.3%, 4.7%)]. In addition, the pooled prevalence of E. vermicularis infections was higher among children in southern China [11.3%, 95% CI: (7.5%, 15.7%)] than that in central China [5.2%, 95% CI: (2.8%, 8.2%)], eastern China [5.2%, 95% CI: (2.8%, 8.2%)] and southwestern China [2.6%, 95% CI: (1.4%, 4.1%)]. Meta-regression analysis identified geographical area and survey province as factors affecting the study heterogeneity. Conclusions Currently, the overall prevalence of E. vermicularis infections is moderate among children in China, and the prevalence varies greatly in regions, with a high prevalence rate in southern China and presence of small-scale clusters. Enterobiasis surveillance and health education pertaining to enterobiasis control are required with adaptations to local circumstance to reduce the prevalence of E. vermicularis infections among children.

[Objective] To explore the characteristics of lifestyle behaviors and mental health status among blood donors in Guangzhou, and to investigate the correlation between donation frequency and these factors. [Methods] A cross-sectional study was conducted among 13 042 whole blood donors from 17 street blood donation sites of Guangzhou Blood Center from May to August 2020. Descriptive analysis was used to describe the characteristics of lifestyle behaviors and mental health status among blood donors in Guangzhou. Ordinal multinomial logistic regression model was used to analyze the correlation between donation frequency and these factors. [Results] It was found that some of 13 042 blood donors had unhealthy habits, such as 6.8% (698/10 214,2 828 missing values) had severe tobacco dependence, 30.6% (3 997/13 042) had low exercise levels, 38.8%(5 056/13 042)had poor sleep quality, and 2.2% (271/12 159,883 missing values) had alcohol dependence. In addition, 2.8% (364/13 042) and 1.3% (172/13 042) of the donors may have moderate to severe depression and anxiety symptoms, respectively. The results of the ordinal multinomial logistic regression model showed that exercise level was significantly negatively correlated with the degree of depression and anxiety among blood donors. With the decrease in exercise level, the possibility of depression and anxiety among donors increased significantly. BMI, household income, education level, marital status, donation frequency, alcohol consumption and smoking had no significant correlation with the mental health status of donors. [Conclusion] Improving the exercise habits of blood donors may help enhance their mental health level. It is recommended that blood station staff strengthen the content of exercise when providing health education to blood donors to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It also suggests that there may be a certain degree of under-diagnosis of mental health problems in the process of health consultation before blood donation, and conducting more comprehensive and effective mental health assessments for blood donors is recommended.
