The elevated polyamines, amine-rich molecules with diverse functions in pathophysiology processes, are implicated in contributing to tumorigenesis and progression. Whether and how they affect the efficacy of chemotherapy is incompletely understood. Our screening assays reveal that the supplement with a low dose of spermidine (Spd), one of the polyamines, enhances ferroptosis in prostate cancer cells as evidenced by increased lipid peroxidation and intracellular Fe²⁺ levels in vitro. Combination treatment with Spd and a low dose of ferroptosis inducer erastin synergistically augments anti-tumor efficacy with undetectable toxicity in mice. Analysis of RNA-seq data indicates that heme oxygenase 1 (HMOX1), an enzyme that catalyzes the cleavage of heme to release Fe²⁺, is significantly upregulated in response to Spd and erastin cotreatment. Spd mediated the hypusine modification of the eukaryotic initiation factor 5A (EIF5A) promotes the translation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2), subsequently leading to elevation of HMOX1. Moreover, Spd and erastin significantly inhibit proteasome activity which results in a decrease in proteasomal degradation of NRF2, although many proteasome-related genes are induced either by Spd or Spd plus erastin. Thus, in addition to its pro-oncogenic activity, the supplement of Spd improves antitumor activity in combination with ferroptosis inducers and offers an optional approach to cancer treatment.

Objective To investigate the habits of eye rubbing and sleeping posture of patients with keratoconus(KC)and analyze the correlation of the onset and severity of KC with eye rubbing and sleeping posture.Methods In this retrospective case-control study,KC patients who received diagnosis and treatment in the Eye Hospital of Shandong First Medical University from January 2018 to June 2022 were collected as the KC group,and myopia patients with matching ages and sexes who visited our hospital from February to June 2022 were recruited as the control group.All patients were inves-tigated by questionnaire and the details of eye rubbing,sleeping posture and related habits were recorded.According to the severity of the disease(corneal curvature),KC patients were divided into different stages,and the eye rubbing and sleep-ing posture of KC patients in different stages were compared.Results In this study,406 KC patients and 394 myopia pa-tients were included.It was found that 67.98％of KC patients and 24.87％of myopia patients rubbed their eyes,with a sig-nificant difference(P＜0.001);45.32％of KC patients and 24.87％of myopia patients were accustomed to sleeping on their side or stomach,with a significant difference(P＜0.001).The multivariate binary logistic regression analysis indica-ted that the following variables showed significant differences:patients with eyes at the later stages(steeper eyes)were more likely to rub eyes[odds ratio(OR)=3.547,95％CI:2.02-6.24,P＜0.001],sleep on side or stomach(OR=10.725,95％CI:5.77-19.94,P＜0.001),and turn head to the steeper eye when sleeping(OR=12.171,95％CI:7.23-20.49,P＜0.001).The statistical analysis demonstrated that the proportion of KC patients at the IV stage who were habitu-ated to rub their steeper eyes and turn their heads to the steeper eyes when sleeping was significantly higher than that of pa-tients at stages Ⅰ to Ⅲ(all P＜0.001).Conclusion Eye rubbing and sleeping on the side or stomach are risk factors for the onset of KC and are related to the severity of the disease.

Objective:To understand the pilot operation status of long-term care insurance system in Panjin City,and provide ideas and reference basis for improving the long-term care insurance system in Liaoning Province and the whole country.Methods:The protection content,fund raising,and treatment payment policies of long-term care insurance in Panjin City was systematically sorted out.And referring to other pilot cities combined with the actual situation in China,improvement suggestions were put forward.Result:After sorting and analyzing,it was found that the long-term care insurance system in Panjin City had a single financing channel,a small coverage of insurance coverage and insured objects,an unspecified payment service content,and an incomplete evaluation system.Conclusion:A long-term care special fund should be established,policy coverage should be expanded,and a scientific and reasonable evaluation system should be established.

OBJECTIVE To identify the chemical constituents of Rhamni Songoricae Fructus and to establish their fingerprints and the method for simultaneous determination of four constituents to comprehensively evaluate the quality of Rhamni Songoricae Fructus. METHODS The chemical constituents in Rhamni Songoricae Fructus were qualitatively analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole-time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry. The fingerprints of 15 batches of Rhamni Songoricae Fructus were established by HPLC and chemometric analysis was performed by using SPSS 26.0 and SIMCA 14.1 software； the contents of quercetin， kaempferol， kaempferide and emodin were determined by the same method. RESULTS A total of 35 constituents were identified， including 28 kinds of flavonoids， 5 kinds of anthraquinones and 2 kinds of organic acids. A total of 19 common peaks were identified in the HPLC fingerprints， recognizing quercetin， kaempferol， kaempferide and emodin. The similarities between HPLC fingerprints of 15 batches of samples and control chromatograms were greater than 0.9. The results of cluster analysis showed that 15 batches of samples were divided into 2 classes， of which S1-S5， S7 and S9 were one class and the rest were one class， similar to the results of principal component analysis. The results of the orthogonal partial least squares- discriminant analysis showed that the variable importance projections of peaks No. 2， 6， 1， 11 （quercetin）， 3， 14， 8， 10， 19 （emodin）， 5 were all greater than 1. The contents of quercetin， kaempferol， kaempferide and emodin ranged from 0.710 to 10.478 mg/g， 0.236 to 0.660 mg/g， 0.334 to 3.039 mg/g， and 0.261 to 0.504 mg/g. CONCLUSIONS The constructed chemical constituent identification， fingerprint and content determination methods are simple， feasible and reproducible， which combined with chemometric analysis can be used for comprehensive evaluation of the quality of Rhamni Songoricae Fructus.

The Peking Union Medical College School of Nursing has been dedicated to exploring the education of undergraduate students specializing in geriatric nursing since 2016. Through seven years of exploration and practice, aiming at the pain points and difficulties in the process of cultivating geriatric nursing students, the teaching team has developed a progressive and modular curriculum system, with the goal of training geriatric nursing professionals with specialized knowledge and practical innovation abilities, on the platform of a seamless teaching practice base connecting settings from laboratory to community/elderly care institutions/hospital to society, with an emphasis on the integration of ideological and political education with geriatric nursing education. Moreover, a specialized faculty team has been established. This course serves as a model for nurturing excellent nursing professionals possessing the right values and outlook on life as well as ability to cope with the national challenges posed by aging populations.

Objective:To investigate the geriatric nursing competency of undergraduate nursing interns in four schools of nursing in Beijing as well as the influencing factors, and to provide a reference for perfecting the geriatric nursing education system in colleges and universities.Methods:From October to November 2022, a cross-sectional survey was performed on 223 undergraduate nursing interns selected by convenience sampling from four schools of nursing in Beijing, with the use of a general information questionnaire and the Gerontological Nursing Competence instrument. A general linear regression model was established to explore the factors influencing the geriatric nursing competency of nursing interns.Results:The mean total score for gerontological nursing competency was (3.19±0.40). In all dimensions, the mean score was highest for "Providing a safe living environment for older persons" (3.40±0.47) and lowest for "Understanding the sexual needs of older persons" (2.78±0.73). The thought about whether gerontological nursing contents were enough and the level of motivation to study gerontological nursing courses were the factors affecting nursing interns' gerontological nursing competency ( P<0.05). Conclusions:The overall gerontological nursing competency of the nursing interns was at a medium level, with uneven competencies in different dimensions. Nursing schools should strengthen gerontological nursing course building and stimulate students' learning motivation to improve their gerontological nursing competency.

Objective:To study the relationship between adult fluoride exposure and grip strength in rural areas of China with fluorosis, as well as the roles of basal metabolic rate (BMR) and body fat percentage (BFP) in the association between fluoride exposure and grip strength.Methods:From April to May 2017, a cluster sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey, physical examination, and biological sample collection on residents aged 18 - 60 in Tongxu County, Kaifeng City, Henan Province (epidemic areas of drinking-water-borne fluorosis). A total of 1 168 subjects were included in the study, including 427 males and 741 females. The fluoride ion selective electrode method and the picric acid method were used to determine the concentrations of urine fluoride and urine creatinine, and the adjusted urine fluoride concentration (CUF) was calculated. BMR and BFP were measured by a bioelectrical impendence method, and the grip strength was measured by a Jamar grip dynamometer. The relationship between CUF, BMR, BFP and grip strength were analyzed using a generalized linear model regression. The mediation effect model was used to assess the mediating effect of BMR and BFP on the association between CUF and grip strength.Results:Female grip strength decreased by 0.28 kg ( P = 0.043) for every 1.00 mg/L increment in CUF. No similar association was found between the two in males ( P = 0.744). Regardless of gender stratification, BMR was positively correlated with grip strength ( P < 0.001). For every 1.00% increase in BFP, female grip strength decreased by 0.18 kg ( P = 0.043). The mediation effect model analysis results showed that the mediation effect ratios of BMR and BFP in the association between CUF and grip strength in female were 65.1% ( P < 0.001) and 8.4% ( P = 0.111), respectively. Conclusion:Fluoride exposure is associated with changes in female grip strength, and BMR changes play a partial mediating role in the association between fluoride exposure and female grip strength.

Objective To analyze the TCM syndrome and treatment rule for the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis based on data mining;To provide reference for its clinical treatment.Methods With the help of the big data platform of evidence-based literature of TCM covering several dominant diseases in the field of digestion,literature on the experience of famous doctors,theoretical discussion and case reports in the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis published from 1 January 2000 to 31 July 2022 was retrieved.Medical records were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria.The data of TCM disease names,clinical symptoms,tongue manifestation,pulse manifestation,TCM syndrome,TCM treatment method and other terms in medical records were standardized and statistically analyzed.Results Totally 169 articles were included,including 228 medical cases,involving 228 patients,with a cumulative number of 361 visits,with an average age of(53.17±11.11)years old,with the largest number of 50-60 years old.Chronic atrophic gastritis mostly belonged to the categories of"stomach pain"and"epigastric puffiness"in TCM,and its main symptoms were stomach pain,epigastric puffiness and belching.The common tongue manifestation include dark red tongue,white moss,thin or greasy moss.The common pulse manifestation included wiry slippery pulse,wiry thready pulse and wiry pulse.The high-frequency syndromes included liver-stomach qi stagnation syndrome,spleen-stomach dampness-heat syndrome,liver-qi stagnation and spleen-qi deficiency syndrome.The disease locations were mainly in the stomach,spleen and liver,and the syndrome elements were mainly qi deficiency,qi stagnation,blood stasis,dampness and heat,etc.The complex syndrome elements were more than the single syndrome elements,and the two syndrome elements of qi deficiency + qi stagnation was the most common.The most commonly used treatment methods were supplementing,regulating qi and regulating blood.Conclusion The treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis with TCM mostly focuses on the stomach,spleen and liver.The core syndrome elements are qi deficiency,qi stagnation,and blood stasis.The methods of nourishing qi and strengthening the spleen,soothing the liver and stomach,regulating qi and blood are often used.

Objective This study aimed to identify PAX9 variants in non-syndromic tooth agenesis families of Chi-na,as well as to analyze the genotype-phenotype of non-syndromic tooth agenesis caused by PAX9 variants,which can provide a basis for the genetic diagnosis of tooth agenesis.Methods We collected the data of 44 patients with non-syn-dromic oligodontia who underwent treatment at Stomatological Hospital of Hebei Medical University between 2018 and 2023.Whole-exome sequencing was performed on the peripheral blood of the proband and its core family members,and the variants were verified by Sanger sequencing.Pathogenicity analysis and function prediction of the variants were per-formed using bioinformatics tools.The correlation between the genotype of PAX9 variant and its corresponding pheno-type was examined by reviewing 55 publications retrieved from PubMed.The studies involved 232 tooth agenesis pa-tients with PAX9 variants.Results A novel PAX9 c.447delG(p.Pro150Argfs*62)and a reported PAX9 c.406C>T(p.Gln136*)were identified in two Chinese families.Through bioinformatics analysis and three-dimensional structural mod-eling,we postulated that the frameshift variant was pathogenic.The outcome was the premature cessation of PAX9 pro-tein,which caused severe structural and functional deficiencies.Summarizing the PAX9 genotype-phenotype relationship revealed that patients carrying the PAX9 variant commonly led to loss of the second molars.Conclusion We identified the novel PAX9 c.447delG(p.Pro150Argfs*62)in a Chinese family of non-syndromic oligodontia,expanding the known variant spectrum of PAX9.The most susceptible tooth position for PAX9 variants of tooth agenesis was the second mo-lars and the deciduous molars during the deciduous dentition.

Objective:Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of ultra-picosecond 1 064 nm laser treatment for enlarged facial pores.Methods:From November 2022 to April 2023, 31 female patients with enlarged facial pores, aged between 28 and 52 (35.2±5.5) years old, were treated at the Medical Aesthetics Center of Xi′an International Medical Center Hospital. They received ultra-picosecond 1 064 nm laser fractional handpiece treatment once every 4 weeks for a total of 3 times. One month after the last treatment, facial pore changes were evaluated using facial pore scores and VISIA pore feature count absolute values, and adverse reactions were assessed.Results:All 31 patients completed the treatment. The facial pore scores before and after treatment were 4 (4, 5) and 2 (2, 3), respectively, indicating a statistically significant ( Z=-4.99, P<0.001) decrease in facial pore scores compared to before treatment. The absolute values of VISIA facial pore counts before and after treatment were 859 (829, 1147) and 652 (632, 731), respectively. The absolute value of VISIA pore count after treatment was lower than that before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant ( Z=-4.86, P<0.05 ). Conclusions:Ultra-picosecond laser can effectively improve enlarged facial pores without significant adverse reactions.
