Objective:To describe epidemiological characteristics and their influencing factors of diabetes and pre-diabetes among adult residents in Hainan Province and provide a theoretical basis to develop epidemic prevention and control strategies for diabetes.Methods:This study used a two-stage unequal proportion cluster sampling method, and 32 857 subjects (≥18 years old) were collected from 24 cities/counties/districts in Hainan Province. All the subjects were investigated with questionnaires, physical examination, and laboratory tests from January to June 2023. The χ2 and Mantel-Haenszel trend χ2 tests were used to analyze the data. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the factors influencing diabetes and pre-diabetes. SPSS 23.0 software was used to analyze the data. Results:The crude prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes in adult residents of Hainan Province were 18.1% and 22.8%, while the weighted rates were 13.7% and 20.7%, respectively. The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that: aging (30-39 years old: OR=2.65, 95% CI: 2.06-3.41; 40-49 years old: OR=5.64, 95% CI: 4.40-7.24; 50- 59 years old: OR=9.88, 95% CI: 7.71-12.67; 60-69 years old: OR=18.34, 95% CI: 14.28-23.55; 70-79 years old: OR=21.30, 95% CI: 16.41-27.65; 80 years old and above: OR=24.13, 95% CI: 17.94-32.46), nationality (Li minority group: OR=1.50, 95% CI: 1.38-1.63; other ethnic groups: OR=1.53, 95% CI: 1.20-1.94), urban ( OR=1.12, 95% CI: 1.04-1.21), central obesity ( OR=2.14, 95% CI: 2.01-2.29), higher frequency of alcohol consumption (5-7 day/week: OR=1.24, 95% CI: 1.11-1.38), physical inactivity ( OR=1.09, 95% CI: 1.02-1.17) were risk factors for diabetes, while aging (30-39 years old: OR=1.53, 95% CI: 1.31-1.79; 40-49 years old: OR=2.36, 95% CI: 2.01-2.76; 50-59 years old: OR=3.03, 95% CI: 2.58-3.55; 60-69 years old: OR=4.22, 95% CI: 3.58-4.97; 70-79 years old: OR=5.05, 95% CI: 4.23-6.04; 80 years old and above: OR=6.08, 95% CI: 4.86-7.61), nationality: (Li minority group: OR=1.18, 95% CI: 1.10-1.28; other ethnic groups: OR=1.40, 95% CI: 1.14-1.71), urban ( OR=1.12, 95% CI: 1.04-1.19), central obesity ( OR=1.72, 95% CI: 1.62-1.83), higher frequency of alcohol consumption (1-4 day/week: OR=1.12, 95% CI: 1.01-1.23; 5-7 day/week: OR=1.35, 95% CI: 1.22-1.49) were risk factors for pre-diabetes. Conclusions:The epidemic situation of diabetes and pre-diabetes among adult residents in Hainan Province was not optimistic. In order to control the development of abnormal blood glucose, measures and targeted health education should be carried out to strengthen the screening, treatment, and management of people with abnormal blood glucose among different populations.

This study aims to evaluate the effects of sodium butyrate(NaBu)on preliminary follicle development of mice,using an in vitro 3D culture system.Preantral follicles were isolated from mouse ovaries(12.5 days post-birth)and cultured in vitro,NaBu was added for treatment during the culture process.Follicle morphology was observed and follicular diameter,survival rate,antral formation rate,oocyte maturation rate and early embryonic development were evaluated.The re-sults showed that an in vitro 3D culture system for preantral follicles of mice was successfully es-tablished.Matured follicles were cultured following an initial induction period of 8 days,after which M Ⅱ-stage oocytes were effectively expelled.During the process of follicle culture,the addition of varying doses(0.05-1.00 mmol/L)of NaBu from 0th day to 8 days had not showed any significant promotion in follicle development at any of the tested concentrations.NaBu at a dose of 0.10 mmol/L significantly increased antral formation rate(treated on 4th day for 2 days).In conclusion,short-term administration of appropriate doses of NaBu could significantly facilitate in vitro preantral follicle development and oocyte maturation by ensuring sustained developmental potential within follicles.This study may provide a theoretical basis for sodium butyrate to improve the reproduc-tive capacity of livestock and poultry in the breeding process.

Objective:To investigate the dietary iodine intake levels of residents and the dietary iodine contribution rates in Hainan Province.Methods:Using cluster random sampling method, common foods sold in 21 counties (cities, districts) markets in Hainan Province in 2023 were collected to determine iodine content. Each county (city, district) was divided into five sampling areas by east, west, south, north, and center, with one township (street) selected from each area, and 20 permanent residents over 18 years old (non same household, half male and half female) and 20 pregnant women were selected from each township (street). The "Iodine-Specific Food Frequency Questionnaire (I-FFQ)" was used to investigate the daily dietary intake of adults and pregnant woman. The average daily salt intake of the survey subjects was measured by the 3-day weighing method, and the dietary iodine intake and the dietary iodine contribution rates were calculated.Results:A total of 632 food samples were collected, and the iodine content of seaweed was relatively high (4 424.76 μg/100 g); the iodine content of seasoning was relatively low (2.41 μg/100 g). A total of 4 227 individuals in Hainan Province were surveyed for dietary iodine intake. The median dietary iodine intake level of residents was 211.6 μg/d, with the medians dietary iodine intake level of adults and pregnant women being 204.5 and 218.4 μg/d ( n = 2 120, 2 107), respectively. There was a statistically significant differences between different populations ( Z = - 8.64, P < 0.001). The medians dietary iodine intake level in the western coastal areas, central mountainous regions, and eastern coastal areas were 210.0, 207.3 and 211.6 μg/d ( n = 1 205, 1 203, 1 819), respectively, with statistically significant differences between different regions ( H = 15.33, P < 0.001). The contribution rate of dietary iodine from iodized salt was the most (59.4%), followed by kelp (8.1%). Conclusions:Under the condition of consuming iodized salt, the dietary iodine intake of adults in Hainan Province meets the recommended dietary iodine intake ( > 120 μg/d), but the dietary iodine intake of pregnant women is insufficient ( < 230 μg/d). Iodized salt is the main source of dietary iodine for residents in Hainan Province.

Objective To explore the distribution and types of platelet antibodies in children with positive platelet anti-body in initial screening.Methods Blood samples of 80 pediatric patients who applied for platelet transfusion in our hospi-tal from September 2021 to May 2022 and tested positive for platelet antibodies were identified using the PAKPLUS kit for antibody identification,and the distribution of HLA and HPA antibodies were analyzed.Results Among the 80 reactive samples in initial screening,9 were negative,71 were positive.Among the 71 positive cases,1 was HLA-Ⅰantibody positive(1.41％,1/71),21 were HPA antibody positive(29.58％,21/71),and 49 were both HLA-Ⅰantibody and HPA antibody positive(69.01％,49/71).Among the70 HPA positive cases,23.95％(17/71)had a single HPA antibody,with18.31％(13/71)of anti GP Ⅱb/Ⅲa,2.82％(2/71)of anti GP Ⅰa/Ⅱa,2.82％(2/71)of anti GP Ⅳ and 0％(0/71)of anti GP Ⅰb/Ⅸ,while74.65％(53/71)presented multiple HPA antibodies.No statistically significant difference was found in antibody distribution among age,gender,transfusion history and disease types.Conclusion HLA-Ⅰ antibody combined with HPA antibody are the main types of platelet antibodies among children with positive platelet antibodies.Anti-GPⅡb/Ⅲa accounted for the largest proportion of HPA antibodies.Antibody distribution is not releted to age,gender,history of blood transfusion and disease types.

Multiple myeloma(MM)is a malignant proliferative disease of plasma cells,ranking as the second most common hematologic tu-mor.Although the use of proteasome inhibitors and immunotherapeutic regimens has improved the prognosis of patients with MM,it re-mains incurable in most patients,mainly because of the eventual development of drug resistance in MM cells.Myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDSCs)are a heterogeneous group of cells causing significant suppression of the T-cell immune response.They arise from bone mar-row myeloid progenitor cells that are blocked from differentiation and promote MM development by resisting immune destruction.Recent studies indicate that MDSCs stimulate MM cell proliferation,inducing drug resistance and metastasis.In this paper,we review multiple mechanisms exhibited by MDSCs in MM pathogenesis and discuss the feasibility and challenges of current therapeutic strategies targeting MDSCs,aiming to provide pertinent references regarding MM treatment.

OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the association between obesity and glaucoma in middle-aged and older people. A population-based retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. METHODS: Glaucoma was assessed via self-reports. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and a Cox proportional hazards model were used to assess the relationship between obesity and glaucoma risk. RESULTS: Older males living in urban areas who were single, smokers, and non-drinkers were found to have a significantly higher incidence of glaucoma (all p<0.05). Diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease were also associated with higher glaucoma risk, while dyslipidemia was associated with lower risk (all p<0.05). After the model was adjusted for demographic, socioeconomic, and health-related variables, obesity was significantly associated with a 10.2% decrease in glaucoma risk according to the Cox proportional hazards model (hazard ratio, 0.90; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.83 to 0.97) and an 11.8% risk reduction in the multivariate logistic regression analysis (odds ratio, 0.88; 95% CI, 0.80 to 0.97). A further subgroup analysis showed that obesity was associated with a reduced risk of glaucoma in people living in rural areas, in smokers, and in those with kidney disease (all p<0.05). Obesity also reduced glaucoma risk in people with diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemia more than in healthy controls (all p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS This cohort study suggests that obesity was associated with a reduced risk of glaucoma, especially in rural residents, smokers, and people with kidney disease. Obesity exerted a stronger protective effect in people with diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemia than in healthy people.

OBJECTIVE: Pseudostellaria heterophylla has been paid more attention in recent years, mainly as a medicine food homology plant. The content determination of P. heterophylla is not specified in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (version 2020). The environmental conditions in different production areas could exert an influence on the quality of P. heterophylla. The purpose of this study is to discriminate P. heterophylla collected from different geographical origins of China. METHODS: In this study, the content of polysaccharide in 28 batches of P. heterophylla was determined using phenol-sulfuric acid. HPLC fingerprints were established under optimised HPLC-PDA methods. Subsequently, the similarity analysis (SA) and the quantification of heterophyllin B were analyzed. The metabolites of P. heterophylla were identified and evaluated using UHPLC-Q Exactive HF orbitrap MS system. Principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and orthogonal PLS-DA (OPLS-DA) were performed based on all peak areas. RESULTS: The polysaccharide content in Guizhou and Jiangsu was higher than that of other production areas, which varied significant from different origins. While the content of heterophyllin B in Anhui and Jiangsu was high. The correlation coefficients of HPLC fingerprints for 28 batches samples ranged from 0.877 to 0.990, and the characteristic map can be used to identify and evaluate the quality of P. heterophylla. The samples from Fujian, Guizhou, Jiangsu provinces can be relatively separated using multivariate statistical analysis including PCA, PLS-DA, HCA, OPLS-DA, indicating that their metabolic compositions were significantly different. Ultimately, a total of 15 metabolites which were filtrated by a VIP-value > 1 and a P-value < 0.05 associated with the separation of different origins were identified. CONCLUSION HPLC fingerprint was established to evaluate the quality and authenticity of P. heterophylla. The present work showed that the difference of geographic distributions had an influence on the internal chemical compositions. A sensitive and rapid untargeted metabolomics approach by UHPLC-Q Exactive HF orbitrap MS was utilized to evaluate P. heterophylla from different origins in China for the first time. Overall, this study provides insights to metabolomics of P. heterophylla and supplies important reference values for the development of functional foods.
