ObjectiveTo investigate the role and underlying mechanism of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in the process of Xiaojinwan (XJW)-containing serum interfering with endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells. MethodsXJW-containing serum was prepared by intragastric administration of XJW (4 g·kg-1) to SD rats. MDA-MB-231 cells were cultured in vitro. β-Catenin overexpression and knockdown plasmids were constructed and transfected into MDA-MB-231 cells. The optimal XJW-containing serum (4 g·kg-1) according to previous studies was used for β-catenin intervention and overexpression experiments. The groups for intervention/overexpression experiments included intervention/overexpression blank group, β-catenin intervention/overexpression group, intervention/overexpression blank + XJW group, and β-catenin intervention/overexpression + XJW group. Cell morphology was observed under a microscope. Flow cytometry was used to detect and record apoptosis rates. Western blot was performed to measure apoptosis-related proteins [B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax), and active-Caspase-3] and EMT-related proteins (E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and vimentin). Real-time polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR) was used to detect β-catenin mRNA expression levels in different groups. ResultsIntervention experiment results showed that compared with the intervention blank group, the β-catenin intervention group and the intervention blank + XJW group showed increased apoptosis rates (P<0.05, P<0.01), elevated protein levels of Bax, active Caspase-3, and E-cadherin (P<0.05, P<0.01), and decreased protein levels of Bcl-2 and Vimentin (P<0.05, P<0.01). β-catenin mRNA expression was reduced in the β-catenin intervention group (P<0.05, 0.63 ± 0.15) and the intervention blank + XJW group (P<0.05, 0.79 ± 0.33). Compared with the β-catenin intervention group, the β-catenin intervention + XJW group exhibited an increased apoptosis rate (P<0.01), elevated Bax and active Caspase-3 protein levels (P<0.05, P<0.01), and decreased Bcl-2, N-cadherin, and Vimentin protein levels (P<0.05). β-catenin mRNA expression was further reduced in the β-catenin intervention + XJW group (P<0.01, 0.22 ± 0.08). Compared with the intervention blank + XJW group, the β-catenin intervention + XJW group showed an increased apoptosis rate (P<0.01), elevated Bax, active Caspase-3, and E-cadherin protein levels (P<0.05, P<0.01), and decreased Bcl-2, N-cadherin, and vimentin protein levels (P<0.05, P<0.01). β-catenin mRNA expression was also reduced (P<0.05). Overexpression experiment results showed that compared with the overexpression blank group, the β-catenin overexpression group exhibited a reduced apoptosis rate (P<0.01), while the overexpression blank + XJW group showed an increased apoptosis rate (P<0.05). In the β-catenin overexpression and β-catenin overexpression + XJW groups, Bax and E-cadherin protein levels decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01), while Bcl-2, N-cadherin, and vimentin levels increased (P<0.05). In the overexpression blank + XJW group, Bax and E-cadherin levels increased (P<0.05, P<0.01), while Bcl-2, N-cadherin, and vimentin levels decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01). β-catenin mRNA expression increased in the β-catenin overexpression group (P<0.01, 7.26 ± 1.03) but decreased in the overexpression blank + XJW group (P<0.05, 0.73 ± 0.14). Compared with the β-catenin overexpression group, the β-catenin overexpression + XJW group showed an increased apoptosis rate (P<0.01), elevated Bax and E-cadherin levels (P<0.05), and decreased N-cadherin and vimentin levels (P<0.05). β-catenin mRNA expression was reduced (P<0.05, 4.65 ± 1.02). Compared with the overexpression blank + XJW group, the β-catenin overexpression + XJW group exhibited a reduced apoptosis rate (P<0.01), decreased Bax and E-cadherin levels (P<0.01), and increased Bcl-2, N-cadherin, and Vimentin levels (P<0.05). β-catenin mRNA expression increased (P<0.01). ConclusionXJW-containing serum inhibits breast cancer cell proliferation by suppressing EMT, which is associated with the regulation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.

Objective:
To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of Yiqi Tongluo Decoction in the intervention of early traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes after ischemic cerebrovascular disease (ICVD) intervention.
Methods:
From October 2020 to July 2023, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted to include 60 patients with qi deficiency, blood stasis, and phlegm obstruction syndrome after ICVD interventional therapy. They were assigned to the Yiqi Tongluo Decoction treatment group (30 cases) and the TCM placebo routine treatment control group (30 cases) according to the randomized block design. Both groups received routine standardized treatment of Western medicine, including dual antiplatelet, lipid regulation, and control of risk factors for cerebrovascular disease. The treatment group was treated with Yiqi Tongluo Decoction based on the control group. The course of treatment was 60 days and follow-up was carried out 2 and 6 months after the operation. The improvement of qi deficiency syndrome, blood stasis syndrome, phlegm syndrome score and TCM syndrome score, modified Rankin score (mRS), Barthel index (BI) score, Fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4) level, incidence of transient ischemic attack (TIA) and ischemic stroke (IS) and incidence of adverse reactions, Head and neck CT angiography (CTA) or digital subtraction angiography (DSA) examination were collected. The clinical efficacy of the patients 2 months after the operation was taken as the main outcome index to preliminarily evaluate the early and long-term efficacy of Yiqi Tongluo Decoction after the ICVD intervention. The early and long-term clinical efficacy and safety of Western medicine standardized treatment combined with TCM Yiqi Tongluo Decoction on patients with qi deficiency, blood stasis and phlegm obstruction syndrome after ICVD intervention were evaluated. The safety of Yiqi Tongluo Decoction in the treatment of patients after ICVD intervention with white blood cell (WBC), C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen (FIB), plasminogen time (PT), recurrence of cerebral ischaemia and restenosis in patients at 2 and 6 months after treatment were evaluated.
Results:
Compared to the control group, the TCM syndrome scores for qi deficiency, blood stasis and phlegm syndrome in the treatment group reduced significantly, the clinical efficacy improved significantly, the mRS score and FABP4 were reduced, and the BI score was increased. Adverse events such as cerebral ischaemia were fewer in the treatment group than in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant; levels of CRP, WBC and PT were reduced, and levels of FIB were reduced at 6 months post-treatment, all P<0.01, and images were intuitively compared. The treatment group was superior to the control group.
Conclusion
Yiqi Tongluo Decoction combined with Western medicine standard treatment can improve the early clinical efficacy of ICVD patients with qi deficiency, blood stasis and phlegm obstruction syndrome after interventional surgery, improve neurological impairment and daily living ability, reduce the state of qi deficiency syndrome, blood stasis syndrome and phlegm syndrome after interventional surgery, and improve the clinical efficacy of TCM. At the same time, it can reduce the level of FABP4, the target of atherosclerosis and restenosis after interventional surgery, reduce the level of inflammation after interventional surgery in patients with ICVD, regulate coagulation function, and reduce the incidence of long-term recurrence of cerebral ischemia after interventional surgery, with good safety.

Objective:To explore the impacts of different frequencies of orthogonal image-guided verification on set-up error correction and the reference values of planning target volume (PTV) margins in postoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer, in order to provide recommendations of the verification frequency in clinical practice. Methods:A total of 80 breast cancer patients who received postoperative intensity-modulated radiotherapy for breast cancer at the Affiliated Union Hospital of Fujian Medical University from January 2021 to January 2022 were enrolled. Orthogonal image-guided verification was conducted before each radiation treatment to determine initial and residual set-up errors. The error data were statistically analyzed by categorizing patients into groups A, B, C, D, E, and F, based on assumed verification frequencies (daily, every 2, 3, 4, and 5 d, and no correction). The magnitude, distribution, and differences of set-up errors of various groups were analyzed, and the PTV margins were calculated using a reference formula. Results:The collected initial set-up errors of the 80 patients were (3.49±3.43), (2.87±2.88), and (2.75±2.35) mm, in x, y, and z directions, respectively. The residual set-up errors decreased gradually with increasing verification frequency. In the case of daily image-guided verification, the residual set-up errors in x, y, and z directions decreased to (1.63±0.90), (1.63±0.93), and (1.55±0.90)mm, respectively. The reference values of PTV margins calculated under different verification frequencies decreased with an increase in the verification frequency. Under daily verification, the reference values of PTV margins calculated based on set-up errors decreased from initial 6.60, 6.29, and 4.22 mm (without correction) to 1.27, 1.37, and 1.28 mm, respectively. Differences in the reference values under verification frequencies every 3, 4, and 5 d were less than 0.81 mm. Conclusions:Daily image-guided verification (including correction) can effectively reduce set-up errors in image-guided radiotherapy for breast cancer. The set-up errors differ under varying verification frequencies, with a higher frequency corresponding to better correction effects and smaller PTV margins required.

Chinese Journal of Radiological Medicine and Protection 2025;45(6):579-584
Both the incidence and mortality of primary liver cancer in China rank first globally. Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is valued for its ability to significantly enhance the irradiation precision of target volumes while reducing the radiation doses to surrounding normal tissues. Respiratory motion management represents a critical SBRT technology. Meanwhile, abdominal compression has been extensively applied as a critical approach to respiratory motion management thanks to its convenient operation and high applicability. Furthermore, applying abdominal compression to the liver can effectively reduce the extent of motion of the gross target volumes, thus reducing the expanding ranges of the internal target volumes (ITVs). This further contributes to increased radiation dose to target volumes and decreased radiation dose to surrounding normal tissues. Focusing on respiratory motion management for the liver, the application of abdominal compression, improvements in abdominal compression devices, and method for assessing the abdominal compression effects, this study presents a review of advances in research on the application of abdominal compression in SBRT for liver cancer, aiming to provide a valuable reference for clinical practice.

To clarify the epidemiological characteristics of pertussis in children in Hanzhong during the nationwide surge in pertussis, this study retrospectively collected nucleic acid testing data of 4 565 children with pertussis from a tertiary hospital in Hanzhong City from September 2023 to August 2024, and collected demographic and clinical information of confirmed cases for analysis. The results showed that among 4 565 cases tested, there were 1 224 positive cases for pertussis nucleic acid testing, with a total positive rate of 26.81%. Since September 2023, the number of tests and positive cases had continuously increased, reaching a peak in May 2024, with 1 174 samples tested and 319 positive cases. Notably, the number of confirmed cases from April to July 2024 accounted for 82.03% (1 004/1 224) of the total confirmed cases during the study period. Among the 1 224 confirmed cases of pertussis, there were 647 male patients (52.86%) and 577 female patients (47.14%). The highest proportion of cases was found in school-age and preschool children, accounting for 88.81% (1 087/1 224). Among outpatients, school-age and preschool children accounted for 93.44% (897/960), while inpatient cases were mainly preschool, school-age children, and infants (94.32%, 249/264). The positive detection rates of outpatient and inpatient children in the same age group were compared. Except for the infant group, the positive rates of the other four groups were higher than those of the inpatient group (all P<0.05). Among 264 hospitalized children with pertussis, 70 cases (26.52%, 70/264) were infected with Bordetella pertussis alone, and 194 cases (73.48%, 194/264) had co-infections with other pathogens. Rhinovirus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus aureus were the most common pathogens in co-infections.
