OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to analyze the correlations and proportional relationships between maxillary anterior teeth (MAT) and facial measurements in Han Chinese individuals with the most attractive smiles, as evaluated by dental professionals. METHODS: Ten dentists with more than 5 years of clinical experience from different professional directions in a tertiary stomatological hospital were selected to evaluate the smile attractiveness of volunteers by visual analogue scale (VAS). Eighty-eight Han volunteers with the most attractive smile were selected. The perceived width of the MAT, the dimensions (height and width) of the maxillary central incisors (MCI), and the facial dimensions (intercanthal distance, interzygomatic distance, interalar distance, facial height and lower facial height) of the volunteers were measured on the frontal photos of the smile, digital oral model, and 3D face model. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to analyze linear correlations, and regression analysis was carried out to explore the proportional relationships. Reliability analysis using the intraclass correlation coefficient verified the stability of these proportional relationships. In addition, the correlations between MAT perceived width and the proportional relationships of (MCI) height to width ratio, with facial dimensions were explored and their reliability was verified. RESULTS: In Han Chinese individuals with the most attractive smiles, as evaluated by dental professionals, the Pearson correlation coefficients among MAT perceived widths were 0.813, 0.389, and 0.560. A proportional relationship existed between the lateral incisor and central incisor, and the ratio was 0.729. No significant correlations were found between MCI and the inner canthal distance, zygomatic distance, interalar distance, facial height, or the lower one-third facial height except for a negative correlation (r=-0.357) between MCI height and facial height in males and a positive correlation (r=0.249) between MCI width and interalar width when genders were combined. CONCLUSIONS Correlations exist among MAT perceived widths in Han Chinese individuals with the most attractive smiles, as evaluated by dental professionals. Partial correlations are observed between MCI height and width and facial measurements. The perceived width of the lateral incisor can serve as a reference indicator for predicting the perceived width of the central incisor, providing a reference for the aesthetic restoration of MAT in the Han ethnicity population.

Objective:To investigate the feasibility of periodontal mechanical therapy for chronic periodontitis and coronary heart disease patients with low dose of aspirin.Methods:Sixty nine chronic periodontitis patients with coronary heart disease were randomly selected as the experimental group (medication group,group A),the control group (withdrawal group,group B) including 20 chronic periodontitis patients with coronary artery disease,stopping the drug for one week and another control group with 50 chronic periodontitis patients (group C).The three groups were examined with pocket probing,and received supragingival scaling,subgingival scaling,and root planning.Local bleeding after operation was observed.In 30 minutes after periodontal mechanical treatment,there was still a need to take some hemostatic measures (containing the oxidized cellulose putting in the periodontal pocket,gauze oppressing,and suturing).Nd:YAG laser was used to stop bleeding 60 minutes after operation.Results:At baseline,there was no significant difference in the three groups,as to the plaque index (PLI),the probing depth (PD),and the attachment loss (AL).The bleeding index (BI)in group A was significantly higher than that in group C (P =0.024),higher than that in group B (P =0.088).The platelet maximum aggregation rate (Aggmax) was detected in some subjects.The average Aggmax value group A was 15.2％,which was much greater than that in group B (60.7％) and group C (62.5 ％).The three groups were all safe in the treatment of periodontal therapy.There were five cases of active bleeding in group A,one case in group B and one case in group C in 30 minutes after operation.In 60 minutes after operation,there was one case of bleeding actively in group A.Nd:YAG laser was used to stop bleeding successfully.Conclusion:The chronic periodontitis and coronary heart disease patients with long-term oral administration of low dose of aspirin can be safely treated with periodontal mechanical treatment,and the effect of local hemostasis is positive without stopping the drug.

Objective To investigate the effect of Panax notoginsenosides monomers ginsenoside Rg 1 in inhibiting hepatic fibro-sis .Methods The rat model of hepatic fibrosis was established by using 50% Ccl4 ,total 35 d .The different doses of Rg1was ad-ministered by hypodermical injection .At the end of the treatment ,the pathological changes of hepatic tissue were observed by light and transmission electron microscope .The stereological method was adopted to measure the volume density (Vvm) ,area density (Svm) ,specific surface(Qm) and surface number density (Nam) of liver cell mitochondria in various groups .Results The stereo-logical data of liver cell mitochondria showed that the statistical differences existed among various groups .Vvm in the Panax Notog-insenosides ,low dose Rg1 and isotonic saline groups were significantly increased compared with the normal control group with sta-tistical difference(P<0 .01);Vvm in the high dose Rg1 ,middle dose Rg1 and colchicine groups showed the increasing trend com-pared with the normal control group without statistical difference (P>0 .05);Vvm in the high ,middle and low dose Rg1 ,Panax No-toginsenosides and colchicine groups showed the decreasing trend compared with the isotonic saline group without statistical differ-ence(P>0 .05) .Svm in the low dose Rg1 ,Panax Notoginsenosides ,colchicine and isotonic saline groups were significantly increased compared with the normal group with statistical difference (P<0 .01);Svm in the high dose Rg1 ,middle dose Rg1 ,Panax Notogin-senosides and colchicine groups was significantly induced compared with the isotonic saline group with statistical difference (P<0 .01);Svm in the high dose Rg1 was reduced compared with the middle dose Rg1 group(P<0 .05) .Nam in the low dose Rg1 ,col-chicine and isotonic saline group was significantly increased compared with the normal group (P<0 .01);Nam in the high dose Rg1 , middle dose Rg1 and Panax Notoginsenosides groups were significantly reduced compared with the isotonic saline group with statis-tical difference(P<0 .01);Nam in the high dose Rg1 group was reduced compared with the middle dose Rg 1 group with statistical difference (P<0 .05) .Qm in all groups was reduced compared with normal group without statistical difference (P>0 .05) .Conclu-sion Rg1 has antifibrosis effects of Panax notoginsenosides ,even exceeds Panax notoginsenosides in some aspects ,and the above-mentioned effect is positively correlated with dose .Rg1 is an ideal drug for preventing and treating liver fibrosis .

Objective To investigate the correlation of infiltration of mast cells in kidney with renal interstitial fibrosis, expression of TGF-β1 and stem eel] factor (SCF) in rat models withprotein-overload nephropathy. Methods Sixty uninephrectomized SD rats were randomly divided into model group [intraperitoneal injections of bovine serum albumin (BSA)] and control group (intraperitoneal injections of equal volume of saline). Ten rats from both groups were sacrificed respectively at week 3, 7 and 11 after injection. 24 h urinary protein and serum biochemistry of these SD rats at the time of sacrifice were measured. The intensity of mast cell infiltration was examined by toluidine blue (TB) staining and immunohistochemistry using a monoclonal anti-MC chymase antibody. The expression of TGF-β1 and SCF was detected byimmunohistochemistry, using a monoclonal mouse anti-rat TGF-β1 antibody and a polyclonal rabbstanti-rat SCF antibody. Results Severe proteinuria was induced in the rats by BSA injectionpeaked at week 7 [(199.1±98.4) mg/d] after the BSA injection and gradually decreased until week11 [(133.7±67.8) mg/d]. Renal injury was accompanied with chymase-postitive and TB-postitive mast cell infiltration, in close proximity to areas of interstitial fibrosis. With aggravation oflesions degree, the number of mast cells increased,the difference between the modal rats and control rats was significant (P<0.05). Immunostainahle expression of SCIF and TGF-β1 was detected in tubular as well as interstitial cells, and increased with the BSA injection. The difference between the model rats and control rats was significant (P<0.05). Mast cells were positively correlated with interstitial fibrosis (r=0.772, P<0.01), expression of TGF-β1 (r=0.521, P<0.01) and SCF(r=0.916,P<0.01). Conclusions Increased infiltration of mast cells is involved in interstitial fibrosis of rats with protein-overload nephropathy. Proteinuria may attract mast cells to kidney by chemot actions of SCF,and mast cells may contribute to the development of renal fibrosis by secreting chymase and increasing expression of TGF-β1.
